Kylia, are you ok? I may have missed you, but I haven't seen you for a while. <3

DH at cricket all day today. I have a Waitrose delivery late morning, mainly so we can get a pack of their excellent frozen berries that DH uses in his stewed apples. :p We are running out of other things too. Food prices over here have got ridiculous, so I've been making fewer purchases of expensive items. We like good food, but I try not to waste money. Fresh fish from the fish market is something we haven't had in a while, though I'm missing their excellent frozen prawns. I think DH's state pension goes in the account today and Waitrose bill you the day after delivery.
Yesterday we had meatballs from the Brighton sausage shop. Not as good as mine, but nearly! I managed to leave two to have for my lunch today, with cauliflower rice (I had half the bag yesterday) and refried beans. Dinner will be Tandoori chicken, because it doesn't have to be eaten piping hot, if DH gets in later. I can microwave it, or it's fine lukewarm. Salad and pilau rice. Raita.

This afternoon I'm going to a meeting for My Death, My Decision. I can tell them about my completion of the Advance Decision form. My doctor has one and both my sons. My narrow escape from death or serious injury when I broke my wrist, really brings these things home to you. DH is still liable to get upset whenever I talk about it, so I don't. I will mention that at the meeting.
The meetings are held in a historic Friends Meeting House in The Lanes. I love that sense of history.

I expect to be tired tonight!

Regarding white shoes (from a while back) or white clothing in general ... mostly a nope from me.

I am not fond of white. White bicycle? Nope. White sheets? Nope.

If I have happened to wear a white top at some point in my past, I have always spilled something on it. White shoes just attract mud stains.

Black clothes, shoes etc., however I like! :)

Regarding food prices ... groceries got up around $300/week for us. After a few weeks of that, I started ordering less and got it down to about $225/week.

Katla ... lucky you for almost never having a headache. I always have one ... although fortunately they don't become migraines every day!

Barbara - will the contractor have to do a repair to the inside of the wall? Will this give you the opportunity to redo the walls you’ve wished to have done?
The two courses are programs. One is ADP and the other is Sage. They are in a lot of job ads and I think it would help me with my job hunt. Although they are both accounting based ADP is geared more towards Human Resources, scheduling, timekeeping, staffing.
Sage is more the financial side, receivables, payables, financial reports.
I have done all of this most of my career but need to make a decision of where to head deeper. I’m thinking payroll because I like interacting with staff more than vendors and customers.
I may eventually take both though.

    Good for you!

I need to get going on the course I've signed up for.

:) Food prices are up here, too. We continue to buy the same things we have always bought. We don't spend on travel, entertainment, gifts, clothing, or many other things so we can continue to spend on the basics.

:) I have been enjoying walking by myself in the mornings but we be happy to see my friend again when she gets back from her Alaska cruise.

Tracey loved the quote shared with other friends.

Making progress on my gardening. I got my tomatoes I started from seed into the ground and planted heirloom carrot seeds. Learned they need 8 inches of loose soil to grow properly. I planted in a compost bin I have so should be no problem. I have two bins. One I Plant in and the other I use for the season. Because of herbicide and pesticide use I do not like to take from the community compost. There is also a pest called jumping worm that I hope to avoid by using my own compost.

Groceries prices are ridiculous here too which I'm sure is the same all over. Have to travel for about an hour to get to No Frills which we tend to shop at more often. Will also go to Edmonton Costco about every 3 to 4 months to stock up.

Got my garden totally in. I think this is the earliest I have ever planted. Now hoping for rain. Had planted my tomato plants in the garden shortly after I got back from Ireland and they seem to be thriving. It got down to plus 4 last night so hoping they are still o.k. Weather is all over the place from +30 to +4. Not sure what to expect this summer. I noticed that all the fruit trees are now blooming and lots of flowers even on the native berry trees. I have a Pembina plum that is literally loaded in blooms. Going to a greenhouse this morning to pick up a good pollinator for this plum as I never seem to get very much fruit from it. Have a sandcherry tree close to it which is supposed to be good but I don't think it is enough. Will get another plum and see what happens.

    Enjoy your day everyone.

Darn computer. Now the mouse seems to be working, but the microphone is not. I had this problem in one application before, but now it has spread. I have an external microphone, but I don't have an open USB port for it. One issue after another!

Heather ... I thought about taking a sieve to the batter, but the plastic part was so chewed up I was afraid the pieces would make it through. And the cottage cheese in this particular recipe makes a texture that it was hard to tell what was what. Not the first time I've tossed ingredients into the trash!

    1. Do something kind for someone you really care about. I need to think about this and plot! I gave my son a gift card to Netflix. He needed something to make him smile.
    2. Focus on what you can do instead of what you can’t. I will try. Did this.
    3. Take a step toward an important goal no matter how small. I have to think about this. I did not buy beer today. Working on not enabling my DH.
    4. Send a friend a photo of a time you enjoyed together. DONE!
    5. Let someone know how much they mean to you and why. It’s my brother’s 59’th birthday today. Going to call him. We never really call each other.
    6. Look for people doing good and reasons to be cheerful. Will do! And found them all over all day!
    7. Make a list of what matters most to you and why. Did this in my journal.
    8. Set yourself a kindness mission and help others today. Do this every day
    9. What values are important to you? Find ways to use them today. Will try.
    10. Be grateful for the little things, even in difficult times. It is hard right now but trying.
    11. Look around for things that give you a sense of awe and wonder. There is plenty here at the park. Wondering how a cave could turn into a lake.
    12. Listen to a favorite pieces of music and remember what it means to you. I will try to remember to do this. Did not have time.
    13. Find out about the values or traditions of another country. Sounds like fun! I looked up Canada and specialty Quebec where my family originated.
    14. Get outside and notice the beauty in nature. I love doing this!
    15. Do something to contribute to your local community. Helped a homeless man today.
    16. Show your gratitude to people who are helping to make things better. Will watch for this. Did this to school group’s surprise visit to the park.
    17. Find a way to make what you do today meaningful. I try every day by helping people find campsites in emergencies.
    18. Send a hand written note to someone you care about. To be completed.
    19. Reflect on what makes you feel valued and purposeful.
    20. Share 3 photos of things you find meaningful or memorable.

wow- I can't imagine spending that much on food a week. I seriously dont' think we spend $300 a month on food for us. We shop around at the local Asian and Mexican markets and the sales at Safeway and the rest is from Grocery Outlet. We used to go to another grocery store ever couple weeks to check out their sales but trying to use up what is in the freezer first so haven't done a lot of shopping the past month, just for fresh stuff.

I did a casserole with some of the left over shrimp from taco night(Shrimp was $2.99 lb for two pound bags and got the limit of 4-we love shrimp-so versatile), added a container of ricotta that I got for 2/$1 and froze, seasoned with parm, garlic, lemon pepper. Layered a little canned Alfredo sauce ($1), some cooked shell pasta (.25), the shrimp/ricotta, another layer of pasta, topped with the rest of the sauce and a little mozzerella I got at food program the last time I helped. It is the vegan kind but the guys couldn't tell. I would have used lasagna noodles but didn't have any and had extra packs of pasta shells. Other times I have had the large shell noodles or manicotti noodles and stuffed them with it.
Enough food for 4 along with a salad $1.50
So about $4 for dinner for the four of us.

going to be a very long day- did a lot of steps yesterday. Ending my day at just over 22,500 including over an hour walk around the wetlands and then zumba last night.
I made the mistake of drinking my V8Energy later than planned(finished it as I drove to class at 6)- Had tons of energy for the class which was great. Like to feel like that instead of dragging and not being able to keep up.
Down side was that I didn't get to sleep until after 2:30AM, awake at least 4 times that I remember then alarm went off at 8:15

I am off today and have the house to myself most of the day. Usually dh and I do our shopping on Thursdays but he is going to have lunch with Nick today after he is done with his mom and before he goes back to his mom's.
I want to finish planting the garden and need to go sort some clothes- have way too many that I dont wear because they don't fit or don't like the feel.
Will pull some meat out of the freezer to go with some zucchini and tomatoes I want to use up.

What ever doesn't get done today will get done on Saturday when dh is gone for the whole day . I just have to go feed MIL at 4pm for him.

(((hugs))) to those who need them.

OH NO, Beth! That's just too scary for me! Of course, I love Kim's answer... maybe you're actually haunted?

The Runza sounds amazing, Mary, although I could do without sauerkraut. If it's just cooked cabbage, I'm fine, but I don't like the fermenting. Yuck. Freddy loves it. Supposed to be extremely beneficial though. Darnit.

I'm home sick today. Nothing serious, just a little "fluey", upset tummy and I certainly don't want to be at work with that. So, I'm headed back to bed while I can get an extra nap in. Going to ENJOY my sick day.

Love and Blessings, Carla, in MN

A sweet German lady friend of our family taught me how she does her sauerkraut that is really great if you don't like it really sour- she mixes have jarred kraut with half steamed, shredded cabbage so you get the great flavor but just not as strong. I like the ones that are sour but the vinegar is an asthma trigger for me.

Hope you feel better. By any chance do you have some ginger for tea. That always helps my upset stomach(which happens often). I keep ginger tea on hand along with a few kinds of ginger candy and ginger beer.

Kim ... I suggested that the house was haunted to my son and husband ... they rolled their eyes. I do believe, however, that the raccoon has been with us for a while. We've heard movement in the attic before.

    Beth near Buffalo

we get either possums or raccoons under our house from time to time. It is funny to hear them in the middle of the day, snoring away. They seem to like the spot right under my bathtub. There have been times where I know they are not IN the tub, but do pull the currents back slowly, just to double check. Don't like hearing them fight under the house in the middle of the night-hitting the metal beams under there.
One time I saw the vent covers that are spring loaded so they will get out from under the house but can't get back in. I should have bought them then, not sure why I waited, after that, can't find them anywhere.
If anyone knows where to find them, please let me know.

Debbie ~ The prices you are able to pay for food are amazing. There are no grocery outlets around here unless you can count Aldi's or LIDL. I end up shopping a lot at Walmart, Kroger and Sam's Club. I have no idea how much I spend on groceries. We don't eat out a lot so that saves us some money.

Beth ~ I hope you get the critter problem solved. We had rats in our attic a few years ago when they were clearing land to build a huge subdivision behind us. Ended up paying a lot to get it exterminated. Would never consider residing a house although we did paint our cedar sided starter house one time.

Vicki ~ I sure hope the hospital gets you some new applicants soon. It seems like you are constantly losing your help. 12 hrs/day 5 days a week would do me in.

Son and grandson are almost recovered from Covid. Son went back to work yesterday. Grandson has missed four days of school this week but will probably go back tomorrow. He only has 3 days left next week and I hope he hasn't missed too many end of year tests.

    18. Send a hand written note to someone you care about. Earlier this week to R’s son K.
Joe’s new doctor cancelled/postponed his first appointment today, offering to reschedule June 6. We are both disappointed, me especially as I was looking forward to having the house to myself today ;) If he likes the new MD, I’ll try the new MD’s wife, they are in practice together. Our current providers spend too much time on following the line-by-line script on their laptops, order too many tests, and are not very responsive to our concerns. Seems like the practice is so focused on profit vs care, they have many med assistants and Pas to allow the two MDs to “serve” more and more patients. Then there’s the “spa” attachment selling Cool Sculpting etc. I feel uncomfortable sitting in the waiting room with all those pictures of women who are already beautiful being made more so.
Safe travels, Mary! Had to google Runza  “favorite…milk chocolate…” well, there’s no accounting for tastes. Milk chocolate doesn’t even tempt me. Now of those old dutch chocolate covered potato chips were dark chocolate over salt and vinegar chips… uh oh.
Beth growling and hissing within the wall? :astonished:
Annie, that’s a good question, never thought homeowner’s insurance might cover repair of termite damage. Will have to ask after we get the estimate.
Rita glad to hear your pup felt better today. Plumbers. Bwah ha hah!
    Lanette “tinkletoriums” tee hee!
Michele how kind of you to bake for that widower.
Sue “. The Dude is staying with us. The cats are not pleased.” and what a great name for a doodle!
Katla hope the new glasses make the headache go away.
Tracey thanks for the thought but I almost hope the repairs will only be exterior. I can’t imagine living with Joe through any kind of reno. Like your thinking about the courses and your future. Brava!
Heather food prices here too. Good incentive for me to purge incorporate some of the freezer mysteries into this month’s meals. ;)
Machka I’m with you about white blouses, but favor white sheets. Blouses of any color attract salad dressing drips no matter how careful I am. :P
Terry we always have to check the expiration dates when buying at either Grocery Outlet or Freddie’s. Freddie’s is the worst for not clearing their shelves.
Rosemarie hope you have something fun to do after housework ;)
Carla I’ll trade you all my cooked cabbage for all your sauerkraut  Relish your rest!
Margaret I admire your composting. I’ve heard we could grow a melon in a compost pile here due to the warmth, but I lack the discipline to compost well.
Joy are the sand cherries edible?
Vicki “… I have no backup…” gentle correction, it is not you but the company’s management who has no backup, their failure to hire any depth backup. They will work you to death if you let them. Please don’t. ((hugs))
Debbie you are a great shopper/food managaer, and BTW your 22K+ steps is so impressive. How many were you walking last year? As for the raccoon spring loaded cover, was it something like this? Carol I’m sure any grandson of yours will have no problem with his year end tests.
