Barbie - Michele - one reason I got chickens is that I got tired of throwing away produce. The recycle crew either eat it or scratch it into nice bedding. Better than going in the garbage can. This afternoon they got a golden kiwi that had been hiding in the fridge. They ate it, skin and all.
Ginny - way to go with the walking. Seems it wasn't that long ago, after covid, it took you a while to get your energy back. Now look at you!
Ginny - Barbie - Pip - Heather - Machka and you other walkers out there - what kind of shoes are you wearing these days? I'm in a fairly new pair of New Balance with Powerstep insoles. My right foot has been bothering me - I think when I broke my baby toe a year ago I might have done a little other damage. I hadn't been wearing the Powerstep in my right shoe, but I'm going to. I put them in tonight.
I've been using the Bob & Brad resistance bands to do some upper body work - rowing, back exercises. What I like about them is that I'm also working my core - as I lean in (or out) more of my body is engaged than if I was just using free weights. They have some good demo videos. I still like free weight for bicep curls. And using ankle weights for legs. I might change as I become more familiar with the bands.
Pip - this one's for you.

Awwww, I’ve seen those2 -
Heather - Busy week ahead. I hope you get some down time too.
Bea is looking more young lady in that photo. They grow so fast.
I truly insulted Michaela yesterday by calling her a “litttle girl” she decided she is a “medium girl”. 😂
Congratulations to your son!
Terri - I need to adopt your little habits.
Ginny - that will be nice to have some bigger items taken out.
That’s a good plan for walking. I need to get back to my walking for my weight and my stress.
I bet you’ll find a beautiful hummingbird to honour your husband.
Katla - I’m happy to read you enjoying your home more now.
Margaret - I wouldn’t want to be responsible for anyone else’s gardens. I barely take care of my own. Good for you saying no.
Lisa - thank you. I have been giving myself time to heal. It’s slowly coming. I still don’t know if they are going to pay me as they should be or not, but I have a plan if they don’t so that has helped. I’m trying to spend some relaxing time each day. I knew I was stressed, I didn’t know how much it was affecting me.
Congratulations to you and Corey on paying off your house. What an accomplishment.
Machka - good luck on the hunt for shoes. I haven’t liked the styles in the last few years at all.
Lanette - All of your little movements probably help a lot. That’s how generations before is stayed healthier I imagine.
Rita - I’m sorry to read your son is making poor choices again. My eating is terrible right now as well. The heat and stress are not good here either.
Beth - I hope they can get to the bottom of your sons migraines. As someone that had to schedule and make sure staffing needs were met I understand how difficult it is on that end. As an employee that has had to work through a migraine I know how difficult it can be.
I love cheesecake!
We went to a birthday party today for this cutie. After the party there were water balloons and splash pads.
It was a small party. Her Mom is my 1st cousin’s granddaughter, I babysat her and her brothers for 2 years. Her youngest brother was there as well. I haven’t seen him in probably 20 years. Their parents both passed in the last 4 years. They are so young to be without parents, it’s nice to see them together.
I took the Grands home afterwards. Michaela will be back on Tuesday for two nights. I am taking her to ceramics camp.

HOKA trail running shoes. Love them. Wish I could wear them all the time.
My next favourite footwear are my boots. I wear them at least half the year. I have a pair on today.

Took Farley for a walk yesterday morning he was much better. Came home and did my strength training video. I increased the weight from 2bs to 5lbs. Made it harder but still doable. Then I started to tackle the garage. Wow we simple have too much stuff. Had an awesome day for my stats. 11,359 Steps, 3 Floors and 81 Zone Minutes.8

BETH ~ Thinking of you as the news reported heavy flooding in NY. Hope you and your family are safe.
LANETTE ~ Your exercise with bands sounds great. My core is where I need to do the most work. I tried doing chair sitting exercises on Youtube last week that are supposed to trim the core and those seem to be what messed up my ankles.
I so admire all of you who take long walks and exercise!

I like SAS shoes for walking and have been very happy with them. They’re sturdy and comfortable, & last a long time. SAS=SanAtonio Shoes. Mine are black. They aren’t stylish but they’re great for walking.

Today’s gratitude (7/7): Joe came through colonscopy ok. 1 polyp to lab, better than previous 5. Joe said “all those vegetables you prepare for me must be helping.”
Welcome @majork29 Kira from AB!
Belated best birthday wishes to you Beth.
Vicki ((hugs)) and strength to you. How old are the grands?
Tracey thanks for the Bangor Main FB hint. Loved the post and followed to read more. Reminds me of “Tales of the Rural Patrol” in the Illinois Valley News.
Barbie et al “..grateful for unknown blessings already on their way” Grateful for this and you too!
Flea and Heather thanks for sharing your travels.
Machka those spicy sweet teas look yummy, especially the chili and chocolate. Is it the rooibos that makes it taste sweet without sugar/honey/stevia etc?
Allie not just Carmine but Myles is learning from Kyle. While I believe most of us are just doing the best we can, I honestly think Kyle needs some anger management tools to help him and everyone in the family. Ah, but how to give them…
Annie Thanks for your concern. Not going to submit an insurance claim for the mirror, (~$650, more if we replace the window) as I had a fender bender Dec 2020 and fear our rates would go way way up.
Lilsa aww shucks. Thanks for the WalMart tip about the black tea version of the sweet and spicy tea. Will keep my eye out, but for now, blood pressure is less the mornings I drink herbal instead of my usual Lemon Lift black tea… Have fond memories of the WABAC machine and Mr. Peabody. Like in your house, no book was off limits. By the time I was ten I’d read Exodus, but had to ask Mama about some hard words… ;} Hope today’s cardiologist appointment goes well and the dizziness eases.
Kylia sounds like BP and cholesterol are heading in the right direction. Glad you got an rX for the UTI.

Hello ladies!
I just read a bit about Diana Nyad, who swam from Cuba to Florida, 110 miles, at the age of 64. Now she is 73, and she does a thousand burpees every day, without the pushup. Wow. It is just amazing what is humanly possible.

Habits:
*morning routine that includes early wake up, dog walking, breakfast (the same thing every day) while reading this thread, recording yesterday's step on two virtual walking sites, and reading from a favorite spiritual reading publication, walking for two hours, some with Bessie, some with my walking friend, and some with my podcasts (all positive, helpful, and uplifting), conversation with hubby, shower and dress. This all happens before nine AM so I have the rest of the day to do other things.
*i plan our middle of the day meal ahead of time so I know what to fix. These meals are prepared to be exactly two servings so there are no leftovers. Planning ahead makes grocery shopping much simpler.
*after lunch I ride my exercise bike while watching TV with hubby. We watch Jeopardy and highlights of the Mariners game then decide if we want to watch anything else together.
* I have a schedule/plan for drinking eight glasses of water every day. I drink only water so it's simple
*Our other meals and snacks are "find it and fix it "so we are each responsible for preparation and for putting the needed items on the grocery list.
* bedtime is about 7 PM every night so there is plenty of time for reading and sleeping in order to be awake early (usually 4:30) to start the next day.
*we finalize our grocery list at bedtime on Friday and schedule pick up for Sunday morning between 8 and 8:30 AM
Beyond that we have time to things we want to during the day. I try to accomplish at least two items on my "to do" list each day.
Allie, every kindergarten teacher will tell you that the child who cries at the door with Mommy will adjust and play almost immediately as soon as Mommy leaves.

Just had a Zoom with my school friends. It's lovely to know that, at 74, they are still firing on all cylinders.
G has been to intellectual get-togethers in London, where she hobnobbed with the Archbishop of Canterbury. It's basically an upmarket magazine subscription, but she loves politics and is writing a book about Brexit. She goes to all these things. This week she has a whole weekend of it in Devon!
B volunteered herself to be the 'lay' person on the assessment committee for scientific grants. Four grants of a million pounds each, out of 52 applicants. Three days of 6 hour Zooms, juggling charts and graphs etc. She said she could feel her neurons ratcheting up several levels. She was once asked to be the Head of the British Medical Association, and she was the cleverest girl in the school. She is off to their house is Cyprus on Wednesday with a large party of her husband's family. It is HOT there.
P has been dealing with the nursing home's protocol with her dying mother. She is off to her house in France on Saturday, even if she has to rush home again. Her mother keeps rallying and complaining.
So all still alive and kicking! .
Duck legs tonight. With spinach.

1. Take a small step to help overcome a problem or worry. I am working on helping my son through this tough time by being in contact with his case worker and tracking his location.
2. Adopt a growth mindset. Change “I can’t” into “I can’t…yet”. I try to never use those words. I follow Yoda’s ‘Do or not, there is no try”
3. Be willing to ask for help when you need it. I will. My back hurts today so will easily ask for help when I need it.
4. Find something to look forward to today. Missed posting this yesterday. So today I am looking forward to my therapy session.
5. Get the basics right: eat well, exercise and go to bed on time. Will do!
6. Pause, breathe, and feel your feet firmly on the ground. Will meditate today to help me do this.
7. Shift your mood by doing something you really enjoy. I really need to do this today. Did not do this. Had a bad day all around yesterday.
9. Put a problem in perspective by seeing the bigger picture. Trying to see my son’s decisions through his eyes.
10. Reach out to someone you trust and share your feelings with them.11. Look for something positive in a difficult situation.RVRita in NM
12. Write you worries down and save them for a specific “worry time”.
13. Challenge negative thoughts. Find an alternative interpretation.
14. Get outside and move to help clear your head.
15. Set yourself an achievable goal and take the first step.
16. Find fun ways to distract yourself from unhelpful thoughts.
17. Use one of your strengths to overcome a challenge today.
18. Let go of the small stuff and focus on the things that matter.
19. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.
20. When things go wrong, pause and be kind to yourself.
21. Identify what helped you get through a tough time in your life.
22. Find 3 things you feel hopeful about and write them down.
23. Remember that all feelings and situations pass in time.
24. Choose to see something good about what has gone wrong.
25. Notice when you are being judge mental and be kind instead.
26. Catch yourself over-reacting and take a deep breath.
27. Write down 3 things you are grateful for (even if today was hard).
28. Think about what you can learn about a recent problem.
29. Be a realistic optimist. Focus on what could go right.,
30. Reach out to a friend, family member, or colleague for support.
31. Remember we all struggle at times. It’s part of being human.

Well, it cleared up and was sunny so I went in the pool, then power washed the patio under our deck. I didn’t do a great job, that’s for sure. I needed to get dinner ready. But at least it’s SOMEWHAT clean. I think I’ll take a walk down to Food Lion and the dollar store after dinner.
Monday here: just work then went to pick up a prescription for Loki and then the Salvation Army. Stopped at WalMart for sour cream
I guess my schedule is to go to Aldi on Wednesday in the morning since I don’t work on Wednesday and it’s so much nicer to go early in the day when there aren’t as many people there. Then, on Sun. morning I usually go to WalMart since there’s very few people in the store on Sun. morning, they’re all mostly at church (remember, I’m in the “bible belt”, but I usually go to church on Sat). I like to get out of the freezer the next weeks' meals on Tuesday so I know if there’s something I need to buy Wed. I usually do a body pump DVD on Wed. morning (before Aldi opens). That seems to be a good day/time to go to the gym. Then since I don’t work on Sundays I do a DVD since the gym opens so late (again, because of being in the "bible belt"). I also try to go for a walk every day. Not sure that I’ll get it in today since we need to go to ceramics so I can get my gecko and Vince can take his tree stump in to be fired so he can get it Wednesday night (last time they’re open)
When I stopped at the soup kitchen the other day to take the bags and empty egg cartons, the gal told me that she’d probably need me to come back at the end of July, but she’d text me first

Flea--Sounds like you had a very nice family trip. Thanks for sharing all the pictures and adventures. Very nice family pictures.
Barbara--How scary about the mirror.
Rosemarie--HUGS!!
Beth--How very scary.
Katla--Great that you and DH were able to enjoy the fireworks together.
Michele -- I get those cramps in my feet and ankles, Happens when I am relaxing or in bed. Make them move in ways that are very painful.
This last weekend did not start out well. Thursday night I fell out of the truck we are renting (while ours is in the shop being repaired.) Popped my hip out bad. Considered going to ER as was in pain and could not move my left leg. I waited until Friday morning and called my chiropractor and he got me in and worked on my back, did traction and is so much better. I can walk and left my leg. The truck was just to tall, so DH went back and got us a van to use. So much better. So taking it easy.
Saturday evening we did go to my younger brothers 50th birthday party. Four my brothers were there and I had them take a picture with me. I am so short, but glad we went.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE8 -

Vicki sorry you fell! Hope your leg is better soon.
I borrowed a big truck once, and I still remember climbing up into that thing. Way too big for my short legs!
I've got a revised schedule on my phone. So far it's helping me remember what I want to get done. Next up is the bike at 3:30. I have a slot for meditation earlier.
My mom refused to schedule a trip to the dentist. I need her to get her dental insurance card out of her purse. She has a loose tooth which is going to get worse without treatment. Oh well if I nag her about it, she may give in.

Thanks for the pic.

Vicki ~ That is a cute photo of you and your 4 brothers! You have a really nice smile. I too am short and remember one time when I had flat tire driving home on the expressway, a fellow driving a semi stopped to help. He had to lift me up to get in his truck (I had walked down the road hoping for help). He changed the tire for me and I was very glad.
Pip ~ What little housecleaning I do is done on the one day a week when my DH goes to see about his BnL at assisted living.
It works out for me.
Allie ~ I well remember the tears my son cried when left at day care and that I cried all the way to my job.
Heather ~ You have some really interesting friends from school. Glad you all are making the best of life as we age.
I bought one Mega Millions ticket and one Power Ball ticket. Couldn't resist as the winning pot is umimaginatively large.

Vicki - Love the pic of you and your brothers... It's not that you're that short, it's how tall THEY are! Sorry about the fall from the truck, glad the chiropractor could help...
Heather - Sounds like the right group of friends for you... not just living at 74, but thriving! What a grand company of women...
Allie - Glad Miles is settling in. Kids are so much more resilient than parents think.
Cardiologist is having me cut one of my medications in half, and they're scheduling me for a heart ultrasound in September. Before we talk about fixing the A-Fib, he wants to see if there's been damage to the heart muscles. Also wanted me to be holding my hemoglobin levels steady and a few months more without bleeding. I have to take a blood thinner to make any kind of conversion to fix the A-Fib, and they're dangerous if you have any chronic bleeding.
He did say that me losing my breath after walking even a hundred yards may be the A-Fib, or it may be the medication driving my blood pressure down too far. If dropping the strength of the medication helps, I may be able to get back on the elliptical without feeling so exhausted after just a few minutes. That would be outstanding!
So - getting things in motion... slowly, but in motion. Happy with today's visit.
Hope it's been a good day for all,
Regards,
Lisa in AR
