My son came back for the football. His team won!!! He watched it with DH in the study. I provided AF beer for them.
They were both very happy. I managed to find a chilli in the freezer for the two of us and a pork stew for DH. We had planned on having skate, but there's only enough for two. Then stewed apricots and caramel ice-cream. Not bad for a scratch meal. :p
My son is totally knackered. He is now having a bath. He hasn't had a decent bath in 8 months. Then he has to look at a few work emails, then bed.
Edie ran her Parkrun, but didn't put in a stellar performance, unsurprisingly. I'm amazed she managed to do it at all. Top marks for not bowing out. <3 She could easily not have done it because they were on their way to the other grandparents.

Going to watch our recorded French series tonight.

G texted to say she was happy to get the train to see me for lunch this week. I managed to get a last booking for Petit Pois. :) Today is her daughter's birthday. They have been estranged for years. So sad. She has made several/many efforts to re-establish relations, but to no avail. It will be nice to see her. Haven't seen her IRL since before the cruise.
I owe her the money for the (very expensive) Guys and Dolls tickets, so will get some cash out of the bank.

All good. Back to routine tomorrow and editing my book. I did fit in some gymming today after lunch. Phew!
    Cleaner will be coming.
Don't know if my son will be here overnight tomorrow. They are putting in the hugely expensive kitchen worktops at the house and he wants to be there to interfere. >:) He spent today sorting out Max's room, but no electricity.

    Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Ok This is really different and maybe offensive to some. But we have spoken of death and the issues about and around this.... so it's in a spoiler Human Composting.

I found it very interesting, especially the environmentally issues

Got home from mom's a bit ago- unpacked most of the stuff. I picked up extra dry goods that mom had from the food program to give to my friend who has 5 grandkids that live there either full time or part time. This is all extra food that the neighbors of mom's that she picks up boxes weekly for don't want. They come part of the time and when they do, they pick through the boxes for what they want.
A lot of the things they get almost weekly are things mom and the others don't eat, like peanut butter, tuna, mac and cheese, canned fruit, dry pasta, canned veggies. Mom was happy to have someone be able to use it and Martha will be thrilled when I give it to her after class tomorrow night.

Had a nice visit with mom. Was really great that my sister didn't come out so just a quiet/restful time.
Took up the Japanese left overs up with me. She enjoyed them as they were something totally different. Saturday night I cooked pork chops, red potatoes and yellow squash, sliced cucumbers and apple sauce for our dinner.

We were up at 4AM to go help at food program. It was pretty warm after we got home and too hot to go out in the garden. We were tired and took a nap. Mom always takes one, I never do but sure did yesterday. Off and on for 3 hrs.Mom slept almost 5.
One thing that was new at food program is one of the doners. It was fresh veggies from Guy Fieri(Food Network star) They film his Guy's Grocery Game up there so I guess this is what is from his set.(it is real ,well stocked store)

Got up early and took care of the chickens and the dogs before mom got up and made her tea.
She had church this morning then a memorial service on the way home so I didn't stay up. No telling what time she would be home and I had to come home this evening anyway.
It was already 98 when I left at 11AM. SO glad my car has AC.

Ate a big Armenian cucumber that I picked just before leaving on my drive home. Had some great whole grain wheat bread, triple cream brie, red onion(all from food program) and sliced cucumber for my lunch when I got home and unpacked.

Need to finish lunch and check emails then get dinner started. Got chicken yesterday so will cook that and a big bag of frozen strawberries I will cook down and make jam.

Lanette - I found I had a lot of traditions about supper that were not helpful. These days I eat eggs and yogurt in the morning, oatmeal with protein powder and blueberries for lunch at eleven, then a smoothie and a small portion of boiled chicken around two. Whether that counts as supper or not I don't know. But it's nothing like the social meat and potatoes supper at five that I had growing up. I find that eating the chicken especially, gets a little dreary, but there's such a small portion that it doesn't much matter. I'm not looking for entertainment or excitement in my food anymore, unless I go out.

So that routine works for me until we have guests or some interruption, then it takes a few days to get back to it. Hope you find something that works for you.

    Annie in Delaware

Have you tried adding different spices to the chicken?
I had fun the last time I cooked chicken-pressure cook 10 min then air fry 10 min. After the pressure cooker, I put a different seasoning one each piece(color coded with colored toothpicks) to see which ones we like most. The maple bourbon was a big hit. All were good.
I will be doing that again today with the chicken I got yesterday. Not sure which spices I will use, maybe just the no salt garlic herb in the pressure cooker then Montreal before air frying it- Want to cook and debone it so it is ready for this week and takes up a lot less space(they are leg thigh quarters.

Canned my first preserved item ever today! Have been really craving sweet pickles, and Corey is strickly a kosher garlic dill guy, so I took a bunch of his young cucumbers and made about three pints start to finish. So far, nothing broke, exploded, leaked, or otherwise behaved badly! Not sure what I was dreading.

Every canning day was such a production growing up, but I've realized, watching Corey, who does small batch canning, that Mama was also canning vegetables and fruits and such from a large garden for a large family. Doesn't have to be hours of sweaty work. Corey is also a relaxed and calm cook... and I am not. Usually. But this morning, by just dinking around in the kitchen, and poking my neck in to ask him a question or two, it all worked out fine.

He's just back after going to the Saturday meat sale in town and picked up the fresh veg and fruits. I had a Walmart delivery early, with the paper goods, etc. He's now making sausage, and I'm going to go outside and get a thing or two done. Promised rain sprinkles haven't panned out, but clouds and a nice breeze have kept it more reasonable. Need to pull the laundry in off the line first!

    Later, y'all,
    Much love,
    Lisa in AR

If you're wondering, I take none of this energy and joy in the doing for granted. Carpe diem, my chickens...

that is how canning season was for us growing up- we planted an acre of garden. It was either froze or canned if it wasn't eaten fresh. Everything in 100ft rows, multiples of every crop.

RVRita - so sorry to hear about your garden. I'm getting ready to put shade cloth over the squash and tomatoes and keep pouring water them, getting ready for the heat wave next week that I pray won't materialize. Finally am getting a few more cherry tomatoes starting to ripen.

Joy - Your simple supper sounded delicious. I've picked a few zucchini, like to slice or chunk them up and steam/saute them with store bought fresh broccoli. Add basil and a few chopped kalamata olives if I have them to give it a different twist. I always like to have something from my own garden when I cook, even if it's just rosemary or bay leaves. Hope I get some storage onions - they might end up pre-cooked like Rita's. :'( I'm growing them in containers/huge totes this year.

Lisa in AR - I forgot to mention how neat it was for you to get the rain. I do miss that powerful midwestern lightning and thunder. Good job canning pickles!

Debbie - nice that you were able to bring extra food back, it will go a long way feeding young tummies. Thanks for the chicken cooking/spice ideas. I know I have some Montreal seasoning in the spice cupboard.

EGG ALERT: Thelma finally did it! :p Gladys produced hers this morning at around 10, Thelma hung around the coop, helped me clean it and lay down some fresh straw and when I went out at 2, there it was. I know Almy went in the coop several times to check out Thelma's progress, lol. She'll probably be next but she and Fairy are a few weeks away.

If any of you gals want to me to add info to the Accountability post for tomorrow, either message me or I'll keep an eye out for your stats and add them in.

read quite a few pages- two more to go but eyes are too tired to read more. May end up taking a nap today too- I rarely nap and usually 10min at most. Feel like I need a few hours or more.
Going to go to bed early this evening- up early for my walk before Ezie comes in tomorrow.
If I get a bit more energy/eyes not so tired, I will try to catch up. I found my self reading the words but not really focusing on it- need to re read page 15 and then read 16

Lanette- Safeway had their McCormicks Grill Mates spices on sale a few weeks back. I got six different ones.
First at $1.49 then .99 the following week with the coupon(instead of $4.99). I got one of each of the varieties that sounded good. A few I got extra on. Having my spices set up has really helped. My go to is their Garlic Herb spice but enjoy trying all of them.

Mom ordered new baby chicks Friday night(has been saying for months she was going to do it that night) she is down to just 12 hens now after a coon got in and killed some along with her one lone rooster. She ordered 25. She is only getting between 2-4 eggs a day now so not worth the feed but that is ok. We gave them a big load of old produce/bread from food program. They enjoyed it.

she sells some and gives some to people at church plus when she starts baking, she uses a lot.
They used to have a lot more hens and sold eggs and veggies at Farmer's Market until fees got too high and they stopped doing market. After that, sold on their own

started with 2 1/2 pounds of frozen strawberries from food program yesterday. No room in the freezer for that big a bag so cooked them down all the way.

Got my new Fitbit yesterday and got it setup. It seems to be working fine. Still need to get familiar with some of the features it has that my old one didn't. I am looking forward to Tuesday and using it in the pool. It will be interesting to see how the tracker compares with the conversion table I was using.

Time to go out and do chores.

Everyone take care, Sue in WA

We had a grand time yesterday at my younger daughter’s. Elder daughter and her youngest boy came by train and DH picked them up while I help with prep for lunch.

Elder grandson arrived with a ‘friend’ who had given him a lift, and asked if she could come in. She couldn’t stay for lunch, but he seemed keen for us to meet her.

DH and I are planning an outing tomorrow as we finally have a potential spell of good weather. We are going to see The King’s Coronation Garden on the other side of Belfast Lough, and then to visit a new walk that has been created at Randalstown along a defunct railway line, which has a spectacular landscaped viaduct garden. I will take photos.

    Lisa: They look so happy.

Tracey: Thinking of you as you set out on your great adventure today.

Today will potter in the garden, and work on my crochet.

    🤗 🤗 🤗 and 🙏🏻 🙏🏻 🙏🏻 to whoever wants or needs them.

Today’s (8/6) gratitude: the fresh scent of the forest when I stepped out on the back porch to put bottles in the recycling bin.
Whoop, whoop. Wii reported weight below 130 for the first time in forever!!! Know it will bobble back up over, that’s why I use the monthly average for the check in. Doing the happy dance anyway
Kim I heard the same TED talk, but wondered about the metal in the body, fillings, screws, rods, plates etc…
Tracey Look forward to hearing about your course. You will be a blessing to any children lucky enough to get you.
Sorry to everyone else but my brain just went blank. ;) Time to snooze.

Debbie-glad visit with mom went well. I am in awe of how you quickly are always whipping up something like a batch of jam/jelly. Sharing food is something more of us could do I am sure.
Allie-glad trip went well and you are back home safely.
Lanette-congratulations to Gladys! I find hearing the updates here fits me more than growing the animals!
Sue-I think you will catch on to FitBit quickly. Hope any tracking surprises are positive.
Lisa-great picture of family-they look so happy. Good progress on rooms.
Tracey-scary stuff with the smell and symptoms. Agree with Heather-it could have been from the fields. We pick up on that in different parts of the county, and often they are spraying by airplane so not as noticeable at first. Good luck on first day of school! You are closing one chapter and starting another.
Terri-the walk sounds very interesting. GS wanting you to meet her-could be something there!
Barbara AHMOD-enjoy the 130-even if it does bobble it is there.

Woke to thunderstorms around 4:30 today (must have moved this way from Lisa. Won't go for walk before work-don't mind walking in rain but not thunder/lightening. Is going to be cooler today so I will walk after work. Will get stretches in this am. Slept really well last night-am hopeful this medication adjustment really works.

    Off to start another week.

    Take care all,

    Ginny in Ohio
