Biggest challenge right now is not "permitting or accepting" my DH'S blame for things that aren't mine. Did that make sense? Example.....at car show yesterday, I dozed off in the heat under our umbrella. He was chatting on his phone. A breeze lifted our umbrella and it blew away and hit the car next to ours. No damage done, but scary! For some reason he thinks I should have been paying attention. SMH. I was asleep. Oh well. It happens daily, so I just need to not accept his thoughts on these things.
❤️
Kylia in Ohio thankful for rain but hating migraine
I'd just say, "That's not my fault! You were awake. You should have been paying attention."
My DH does the same things! He’d be driving and miss a turn or decide to pass someone right before a turnoff then miss it and blame me! I just say, I’m not driving. LOL I think many men are like this, nothing is there fault. They blame everything on everyone else but themselves. We who get blamed must not let it get to us. I used to, now I just calmly say “I did not use that”, or “I’m not driving” or I didn’t cook today, or any other appropriate statement. Just don’t say “it’s not my fault” or get defensive that just seems to feed them.

I've always tended to "poke the bear".
I figure if someone blames me, and it isn't my fault ... they've just started something!!

Tracey - I'm so pleased that they're doing a refresher on how to be a master student, it should go a long way to getting you relaxed and back in learning mode. Like Kylia, I'm excited for you! How is Rodger doing with all this?
Allie - Glad it isn't lupus, that's one relief, anyway! Enjoy your time with Homer.
Sue - Glad things are looking good, hope the echo is clear. I have to do one next month to check for clots and talk to the cardiologist in early October about correcting the a-fib. Hope the sarcoidosis subsides.New here. Very new! Just jumping in...Re-starting the weight loss journey. Currently hanging out in PNW. Retired to the RV life.
LizzyinWA (that signature is probably going to need adjusting as we are not always in WA anymore)
Welcome, Lizzy! We've definitely got a lot of PNW folks here, it's a popular place, plus RVRita, who enjoys the RV life, and I think she's chimed in already as well... Drop back in anytime!
Woke to the sound of distant thunder, not nearly as violent as yesterday's wake-up, and a nice soaking rain continues. Everything was already greening up from yesterday morning's rain, and this will make things lush and green again. A protected window is open in the living room, so the house is filled with the scent of fresh, clean rain.
Filled my car with donation items yesterday, and that sunk cost fallacy came in handy dozens of times! If we haven't used it in a year, it probably is in the car. Plus the weird things, like all the styrofoam shipping boxes the VA used to send the injections I was taking last year. Couldn't resist keeping them, but they're utterly useless things, in the end, unless you're shipping items that need ice packs to stay cool. So... off they go.
Want to work on getting more sorted and in the donations until the expected break in the storm around ten a.m., then run it all into town. So pleased with my energy levels, and am hitting the 10,000-step mark regularly:
It's not all beer and skittles - the gas production yesterday was just a barrage, every five to ten minutes all dang day. I can still feel it in my mid-section, the muscles just got worked over. Still not sure what sparked it, but this morning it all seems better, and I appreciate it.
Hope everyone has a lovely Tuesday.
Later,
Love y'all!

Snowflake1968 wrote: »I had an interesting first day of class. A few technical issues, which was to be expected on the first day. This week I am learning how to be a successful student. The textbook is “Becoming a Master Student”. I wish I would have had this book in junior high. It helps you understand your own learning style and the different skills for all the essential steps of learning.
I had to read 3 chapters tonight and do an assignment for tomorrow.
It took about an hour per chapter to read and complete the assignment.
I had a nap between the first and second chapters and supper between the second and last one.
I find myself very sore this evening because I didn’t move as much today as I have been.
I’ll have to get into a routine.
Thank you for being a huge support for me. I am so blessed to have all of you in my pocket cheering me on.

Tracey I did an online masters in Computer Science. At the time, the students were not on camera, just audio. So I used to paint my nails, then get on my stepper while I listened to class. I think I listened better while moving; I didn't zone out as much.
Well we didn't lose power last night, but it rained for hours with thunder and lightning. Teddy had to go out at midnight in the rain, and now he won't go out this morning. Silly dog.
I will buy groceries later this morning, but I think that's the only thing on my list.
Have a great day!

I'm attending a work-related conference this week.
While I'm honoured to be one of the few who are attending this conference (there's maybe about 10 of us), today was a long day and it looks like the rest of the week will be full-on as well.
Today was 30-ish people in a relatively small, warm room, attending a Costing Workshop from 9 am to 5:30 pm without leaving the room. It was interesting up till about 3 pm ... and then I think everyone's brains started to go to sleep.
Tomorrow will be in a different building and we'll move from room to room for different sessions on different things, so I hope that will be better.

My son had to go to London for work today. Then he's going to spend the evening in the house, sorting and checking the works, before he comes to us to sleep.
He will feed himself, probably up in London.
I thought he must be fed up with gluten free pitta for breakfast, although I did tell him there were cooked potatoes and lots of eggs in the fridge. Soooo, I made him a GF soda bread!!!
Looks and smells delicious 😋
I adore soda bread, but I am low carb at the moment. So won't be tempted.
I've got Tandoori Chicken marinating for DH and my dinner. Yum.

Barbie--My cherry tomatoes are not doing well this year. So far the plant looks like it dead.
Allie-- We are planning the trip for next July, if by chance we get them back and have time in October we may just go up over the border. But doesn't matter if we have to wait. Just glad to have it done.
Tracey--Sounds like your first day of class went well. I do find it harder going back when I was older. But you can do this and the kids will be so Blessed.
Allie--I agree it was a good idea to rent the scooter and not need it, than to risk missing out because you needed it and didn't have it.
Thanks for letting me vent about DYS.
Today working with the new girl and so far it is going well. I go to an all afternoon management meeting at noon and then my CT scan at 4. DH wants to go test out a pickup when I get off.

Vicki, We renewed our passports in April and the new ones came in July almost exactly 12 weeks later. We have no trips planned but I have long felt that having a current passport is one of the important parts of being an adult.
Machka, I remember work related conferences like the one you described. I know you will add a lot to the experience and gain a lot for yourself, as well.
Allie, you seem to have many exciting events planned in your life.
Tracey, your first day of school sounds successful. Just keep taking it one day at a time and treating yourself with compassion. You can do this.
The dog groomer comes today.

Ginny - yes, I'm on the state pension plan. After I retired from the county 6 years ago, I was able to go back part time, and draw my full pension without penalty because I was under the threshold which is 867 hours per year. The only stipulation was I had to wait 30 consecutive days after retiring before going back to work for a pension eligible employer - in this case, the county again, different department. I am so lucky to have stumbled on to a job with the county many years ago and get on that pension plan.
Kylia - your message to me is somewhere in outer space, lol. I messaged you this morning so we'll see if mine lands in your inbox successfully.
Tracey - that intro course sounds neat. Bet you'll enjoy the course a lot. Is it a zoom-type classroom where you can see the instructor and interact?
Heather - that soda bread looks yummy. Looks perfect to dunk into a bowl of soup. Glad to hear your son's remodel is in the final stages and they can get their home back hopefully soon.
Vicki - good job telling the boss he can answer the phones if he can't get the higher ups on the move. Sometimes they need a reality check.
Barbie - I just dropped Rosie off for her grooming appointment. There was a news story this week about a new mobile groomer in my area and she is much busier than she thought she'd be.
Several years ago I gathered all my paperwork and went to the DMV for an "Enhanced" driver's license that allows entry into Canada and Mexico - no passport needed. While standing in line, a friend walked by and said she just uses her passport to get into Canada - the waiting time for the document was longer but the price was comparable as I recall. Of course, that might have changed.
Glad to hear of good test & MRI results for many of you. I'm scheduled for yearly blood draw on Friday to check Vit D, B12, and the basic Metabolic panel. Doc says she wants to check my electrolytes and kidney function (in the past these have been fine.)
Ladies, I'm impressed by your wise "refereeing skills" when it comes to your kids and their squabbles with spouses.
Cool and overcast day so far. The prediction for hot hot weather next week has backed off a little, I think you gals south of me might get the blast. Did I mention apples are ripening a few weeks earlier than normal and same with the Aronia berries aka "Choke Berries" (not Choke Cherries) Last year they didn't ripen until mid September. Right now the bush is loaded with plump berries - I am holding off for a few weeks if I can to get the berries a little sweeter.
Have a good day-

Communication is so challenging! Investing time sitting with Joe without being tied to an expectation that things will go MY way, this is tough! Yesterday morning he resolutely sat with eyes closed and barely spoke until I’d finished my tea and stood to go up (patience is NOT my strong suit :laugn: ). Then his attitude was grumpy. Ah now I see, his hand and eye must be hurting. Fooey. The day before I was congratulating him on substituting more vegetables for half his normal rice portion and said “because rice turns to sugar in the body.” “Nope” he said, “rice turns to poopy in the body everybody knows that.” I laughingly said “That’s right. Don’t believe your intelligent, loving wife who has your best interests at heart. Believe some fool on the internet.” He laughingly replied with a lame joke about not using a net but a fishing pole and we let it drop. Glad I finally got it out. It’s one of those sentiments I’ve shared (too) often with other women but never with the person who I wanted to hear it ;} This morning Joe made pancakes, hard for me to resist, so I had a small one, with veggie links and savored every bite. Took the opportunity to sit at the table with him, instead of my chair in front of the TV since we usually don’t eat at the same time. As usual he played Spider on the laptop while I sat there, but this time I decided to stick it out with a smile from the savoring on my face. Whenever the opportunity arises I’ll join him at table and just be happy to be together.

Machka yup. Thought the same thing (did Rebecca see the filming?) when I stumbled on that Beachfront Bargain Hunt: Renovation show I’m a fairly good speller, thanks to Mama and Scrabble, but I struggle with necessary too. However I am NOT a fan of autocorrect, it savages me all the time, especially in text messages
Carol is there any possibility of negotiating with your husband for just one room free of his stuff? Or even just a part of one? ((hugs)) In our relationship, it’s I who have stuff in almost every room, only the man cave, garage and his bathroom is safe from my overflow. :{
Allie so thankful for the “not lupus” news. Hurrah!
Kylia scary news about DH. “Sloppy Bambis” sounds like he’s at least trying to get on board the quality fuel train. Would he take milk thistle capsules? Joe has become accustomed to veggie burgers, but hasn’t yet tried sweet potato fries … ;}
Rita what you said about not getting defensive. Hard to do but so effective when I can.
Lanette Brava for exploring flexible part time work. What you’ve shared with us about folks living alone needing to talk resonated. It took a few minutes of throat clearing for one of my pew buddies to say “Hello” on Sunday. I want to make it a habit to give her a call mid week.
Vicki Bravissima for what you told your boss. Bet that gest some action out of HR! Fingers X’d for the scans. Are they for your foot?
Debbie, Heather, Carol, Kylia, Annie and likely others, have I told you lately how much I admire you for cooking for your family every single day? Never have, never could. Good thing Joe and I are on different schedules and he can cook!
Tracey Bravissima for completing your first day’s assignments! Well done!!!
Lisa Hooray for your energy levels and 10K steps. Woo HOO!

Just excavated some (very old) dried black and adzuki beans from the recesses of the pantry and put some on to soak. Is there any danger in eating old beans? No obvious defects or fuzzy mold . . .0
-
I have some old dried beans so I looked it up.
Dried beans are considered non-perishable. After two to three years, the nutritional value starts diminishing, and all vitamins will be gone after five. (Warm storage temperatures will speed up that quality decrease, too.) But that doesn't mean you couldn't cook and eat them after 10 years if you really wanted to.Apr 13, 20202 -
Sent box to eldest son for his birthday earlier this week, plus a package to him today on something we ordered. If I could send myself, I would! Just two air holes and I am good.😂😂. I miss that kid.
Well middle son told me a good time to visit will be in October. She's due in mid Sept, and her Mom will be there from mid August to late September. He wants just them for a bit until we come down. Makes sense. But I did want to come down earlier. We are her in laws and there's a certain hierarchy to it all. I get that they need time to fit the new Baby Puzzle piece into this new larger family puzzle. Now eldest son has leave in Feb before he has to report to next command. I do not know if I can wait that long though.

1. Set an intention to be kind to others (and yourself) this month. I plan to be kind to people I meet and to myself. Not just this month but all the time. It may not be every time, but I will try.
2. Send an uplifting message to someone you can’t be with. I will text my best friend who lives in Michigan, and my friend that lives in NY. Did this
3. Be kind and supportive to everyone you interact with. I did this!
4. Ask someone how they feel and really listen to their reply. I plan to try to remember to do this. Done!
5. Spend time wishing for other people to be happy and well. Will meditate and do this through a loving-kindness meditation.
7. Give time to help a project or cause you care about. I volunteer at Bottomless Lakes State park and also belong to the ‘Friends of’ group and am on the board as secretary. Does this count?
8. Make some tasty food for someone who will appreciate it. My DH does all the cooking. Perhaps i will look for something KETO to cook. Otherwise, we give food to our co-host often.9. Thank someone you’re grateful to and tell them why.
10. Chick in with someone who may be lonely or feeling anxious.
11. Share an encouraging news story to inspire others.
12. Contact a friend to let them know you’re thinking of them.
13. No plans day! Be kind to yourself so you can be kind to others too.
14. Take an actions to be kind to nature and care for our planet.
15. If someone annoys you, be kind. Imagine how they may be feeling.
16. Make a thoughtful gift as a surprise for someone.
17. Be kind online. Share positive and supportive comments.
18. Today, do something to make life easier for someone else.
19. Be thankful for your food and the people who make it possible.
20. Look for the good in everyone you meet today.
21. Donate unused items, clothes, or food to help a local charity.
22. Give people the gift of your full attention.
23. Share an article, book, or podcast you find helpful.
24. Forgive someone who hurt you in the past.
25. Give your time, energy, or attention to someone in need.
26. Find a way to ‘pay it forward’ or support a good cause.
27. Notice when someone is down and try to brighten his day. (My DH’s birthday. He always gets depressed on this day. Worse this year as he turns 70 today).
28. Have a friendly chat with someone you don’t know very well.
29. Do something kind to help in your local community.
30. Give away something to those who don’t have as much as you.

A Word From Verywell
Sunk cost fallacy can be tricky to wrap your head around, and it’s not without nuance. For more clarity in these complex decision-making moments, completely disregard how much you’ve already invested so that it doesn’t hold influence. Then, look at the facts.
Are you satisfied? Have you repeatedly been met with dead ends? Is there still potential for a positive outcome if you continue investing your resources and energy? What are the benefits of walking away and opening a new door? These are the factors that should influence your decision rather than any previously sunk costs.3 -

Dh did the same thing(he works for a grocery store)- retired at 52 because he got in on their 85 and out clause(age plus years work equal to 85 and you can retire with full pension). He took 5 1/2 months off-he had to go back by 6months. His restrictions are monthly- no more than 63 hrs a month. They lifted the restrictions for the years of covid and just put them back in May of this year. During that time, he could work as much as he wanted.
He gets his old pay but isn't managing the department now. He works where they need him. Wed. is always File Mat. for price changes, he was helping in another department stocking a night a week or so and then some shifts back in the deli, his old department.1 -
The window cleaner came today, ( every two months), and it started raining immediately afterwards. Our drizzle is usually laden with salt from the sea.
Barbara - I know it must hurt that Joe makes so little effort to be with you in any significant sense. Your patience is amazing. I imagine that significant pain must affect mood. My heart goes out to you. l think you are an amazing person, but everyone has their limits. You sound as if you are reaching yours. All love.
My son has texted that he is very excited by the GF soda bread. (I sent him the photo) It's the least I can do for the poor overstretched guy. I said, "Would it matter if you all had to camp in the house for a few days? " He said, "The kids would be OK, but J would not." My DDIL rules the house with a hand of iron in a velvet glove. He is so worried that it won't be up to her standards by Friday. At the moment, no drainage in the showers. He was working out tiling on a grid at 10.30 last night. Shower doors going in today.
I said you could use wet wipes!
It will all be done soon. I have no idea how he copes with the stress and holds down a top class job. I do worry.

very windy and cool this morning. Slept in an extra hour beings I knew it was going to be cool and don't have Ezie today. Walked 4 1/2 miles.
Going out for lunch with dh and his friend who is back in town from China.
Taco Tuesday so going to try the $1 tacos. Looking forward to trying a few different ones- they have 6 meats to pick from. We were going to pick them up last Tuesday but dh was in too bad of a mood.
May walk with my friend this evening, not sure yet.
I had planned on the tacos for dinner but beings we are meeting Rob for lunch, doing them now.
Now to figure out what to make for dinner.
Maybe warm up the Swiss steak and red potatoes beings I am the only one that ate any of it last night.
Gave dh a sample and the jerk actually turned his nose up at it. spent hours making it and he did that. Wanted to smack him.
at least I enjoyed it.
Got to go- he is impatiently waiting for me2 -

Going to the concert at the Riverfront tonight. My friends band is playing.. tomorrow meeting friends for lunch the ones im cruising with and Friday I'll be meeting friends again.3 -
Barbara ~ You are to be commended for trying to spend time with Joe. It is difficult when you both have different taste in food, tv, hobbies, social events, etc. At this time in our life, my DH and I have very little to talk about other than every day things that need to be attended to. We do watch a conservative news program every evening but after that we each have little of the same inerest. Before Covid and new health problems, we went to lots of estate sales and garage sales together and enjoyed finding treasures to resell on eBay and his monthly Antique Show.

Pip you are an inspiration to us all!
I'm taking another break day. I caught my dad listening to some kid try to sell him a pesticide service. He forgot that he already has one for the house. Plus another for the yard. And he just was confused when I told him. He doubts me. It's time for him to turn over his credit cards and let me do the banking and services, but he isn't ready. He thinks he is doing okay, but he isn't. He can't get into his email again. So this is likely to get worse.
And I was already upset because Teddy's biopsy results came back malignant. They removed his eyelid tumor, but it may recur. However this kind is not likely to spread outside of his eyelid. He is thirteen. He gets his stitches out, and probably loses the cone collar on Friday. So that will be an improvement, as now I have to carry him up and down the stairs.
Hmm. No idea how to control Dad's money when he doesn't want me to. I'm actually reluctant to take on the responsibility. What a mess.

We decided to try all the different meats in the tacos- she forgot one which we are fine with-it was the lengua/tongue.
Three of us eating, $32 for all of it and we came home with more than half. I was full after the second one- the fish and the shrimp are $2 each, the others ( steak, chicken, carnitas, chorizo, pastor, birria are all $1 each.
We really enjoyed Taco Tuesday(and have leftovers for tonight too plus son can enjoy some hopefully)
