Snowflake1968 wrote: »Lisa - I am always amazed at sizing for women’s clothes. The tshirts I bought to make for the girls and I for our sleepover a few weeks ago were mostly XL and 2XL. My son in law overheard the conversation one of the girls and I were having and went a little crazy about the sizing. He made us feel very good about our sizes and angry at the manufacturer. He actually took one of his men’s t shirts. his size medium was our size 2XL. It makes no sense. Funnily enough one of the girls is a paramedic that has worked with him and in an emergency one time she was able to wear his uniform shirt. She was one that needed the 2XL in these shirts.
I swear they do it to make us feel worse about ourselves so I have quit worrying about size and just go by feel.
These are two different clothing size comparison charts.

When I moved to Australia, I was about a 14-ish in Canada, I immediately shot up to 16-18 in Australia! Recently, when I hit my highest weight, I was a 20 Australian ... but that's 16-18 in the US. Now I'm down to an 18 Australian ... mostly.
Just to add to the confusion, we get a lot of Asian clothing here with our high Asian population, and even though they will attempt to put an Australian size on the clothing, I find I'll often take a 22 in those clothing items, whereas I'll walk next door to an Australian store and I'm an 18.Snowflake1968 wrote: »I think my Grandson will go into the computer field in some manner. I don’t know what he’ll be. He has always even as a toddler created these games and characters that he could direct and manipulate. I’ve always said he is going to be a director or video game creator. It’s exciting to see how he has grown and some traits have just stayed the same and gotten more defined. He actually runs a D&D game now where he is the dragon master. This doesn’t mean a lot to me, but everyone is impressed that knows the game that he does it at such a young age.
Now that I’ve written a novel, I should go do something.

Yes, that is impressive! I was a dungeon master at about 16 ... but I think the game was quite different then.

I need some help with Mangos.... I know you buy them, I like them but NEVER buy them, I am not sure how to know if they are ripe and am always disappointed. But Grocery Outlet had them for $1 so I got 2. they are green with a bit of red, large and almost rock hard.... now what???????
Kim in N. california
I LOVE mangoes.
I buy them when they're a little bit soft and usually wait till they are quite soft to eat/drink them. So good!
Green with a bit of red sounds kind of like our Calypso mangoes. They're my favourite.
My daughter-in-law taught me how to scoop them out with a glass.
In Canada, mangoes were rock hard and slightly sour, and never seemed to soften.
This is about Australian mangoes and how to tell when they're ripe:

Awake early, of course.
I came downstairs to talk to you, and heard Max go to the toilet. He came into the living room to ask me what the time was. I told him and he said, 'Oh good, I can read now!' I gave him a book last night about how our world developed from its beginning. Great maps, showing how the continents have moved.
I hope I can catch some downtime today. I've got so used to my afternoon nap!
I think it's Pizzaface collection tonight. Will be expensive, but, hey. The kids enjoy it. Edie will 'help' me make a salad dressing for a green salad.
So now, to make DH a cup of tea before the girls come down. They have strict instructions not to emerge before 7 am.

Debbie-sounds like a good deal on your FitBit. I used one for years. I switched to AppleWatch because of fall notification feature-I also like the way it syncs with phone. That said-I spend way more on tech than I need-but it's my splurge. I would feel lost without some device on my wrist!
Vicki-hope you have recovered.
Tracey-it just struck me that you using the desk built by your great-grandfather is like having the generations of family there supporting you as you move forward. How neat that it!
Rita-I enjoy hearing tales from Roswell. I also admire the way you are coping with your family situations-it provides guidance for all,
Heather-it is good L has her future plans! Good luck to family on this last stretch before resettling.
Sue-it is strange the different medicines they give for colonoscopies-who comes up with this stuff?! Glad all went well.
Margaret-I am also trying to reuse stuff already in house for storage. I used to spend time trying to find the right "thing" and ended up with more stuff. I find I can repurpose more things than I thought.
Lisa-yes, the more I move the more I want to move!
Pip-tpugh for kids when parents are split. Glad she was able to tell mom she prefers to walk alone (she is a teenager!). She is probably happy mom offered (even if she won't admit it). I think it is good for kids to have someone to relate to other than just parents-as long as it's positive.
Clothing sizes-I have given up on figuring that out. I really prefer when I can buy jeans based on inches size (like Levis and other men's brands have). I have t shirts that I wear small in, others I wear large-the same day!
Need to get ready for day. Was hoping I would sleep later but up at 4. Caught up here. Tidying some stuff up so house in decent shape when I finally get home late this pm. I am still going for morning walk even though I will be running around all day. Packing a personal cooler so I have some iced tea (decaf) and my bodyarmour late-must stay hydrated. We will also have plain water available. Will be good to see the kids running around enjoying themselves. Will not doubt dance with some of the staff today-chicken dance and such. We have fun together.
Take care all,

Lots of trouble sleeping across the world, it looks like!
Up after just a couple hours for what I thought would be the interim for the first sleep/second sleep, but didn't get sleepy, so threw on my sweats and t-shirt and worked on the spare bedroom, which still contains the elliptical. Cleaned every inch, set up the bed frame. Took down the bedframe so I could turn it, working on getting it all sorted. Basically furniture Tetris, trying to figure out how little I can move out of there and still make it a usable bedroom. Glad I don't have to sleep in the room, though.
Eventually, we plan to combine it and the other tiny bedroom, which is purely storage at the moment, and expand the current half bath to a full bath to create a master suite. It could happen. But not soon... other priorities for now.
Starting to fog up mentally, will try to get a few more hours sleep.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa

Heather Love making a frame for the painting with a random pattern. I am going to think about doing that with future paintings.
As I weed through belongings the first thing I do is be gentle with myself and realize the more I have the more I have to maintain. As I send off the things I no longer use I think may this be what someone can use now. For something like food I learned if what I bought expired or went bad I need to be more thoughtful in what I buy and something to not buy again because I won't eat. I am beginning to see that if I want to waste less I need to buy less. When I do buy I need to do it thoughtfully and think quality over quantity. I have been doing this with food and do notice I am satisfied with eating less.
One of my friends is struggling with all she has acquired. She looks at a crowded space and she gets overwhelmed. I said be gentle with yourself and just take one shelf at a time. She does share some spaces with husband and daughter. I said if it is a closet just divide it in thirds and label each spot. You claim your third and figure out what fits. Whatever doesn't fit either let go or rehome to where it belongs if there is room. She does love to shop. Next time I will suggest going on a no buying trip just look. If after three days you find you realize you found something that will add to your home and you have the space give yourself permission to buy it. If it is gone tell yourself it was someone else's find and that is okay Same idea with a twist is if it looks like a bargain tell yourself let it be someone else's find I have enough.
Another suggestion from Organized Enough is shop your home first. Do you already have something that you could use for what you are going shopping for. Also have a plan for what you are going to buy. If you just go to shop yes you will find something, but you might come home and find you already have ten of the items you just bought. Then is it return or donate? You had just added to your work load or if you shove it into your overcrowded closet to deal with another day that makes you uncomfortable when you open your closet because now when you pull out your clothes they are wrinkled and maybe even musty from being in a cramped space.
I ask myself where am I now?...I visit with friends and family, sing, paint, garden, read, walk my dog, go to church, and participate in social media.
My end goal is to have an easier to maintain home so less time is spent on taking care of my stuff. My stuff needs to take care of me.
I am starting to see a shift in the way I eat. Better food choices and using the fresh food I grow and purchase in a way that less is spoiling and going to waste.

Clothing sizes When I first started losing weight in 2009 I found a brand and cut of jeans that fit well. I bought two pair and rotated them until I lost more weight, then bought two pair in the next smaller size and so on. That was great. I found them originally in a local store and later found them online. When I was at my lowest weight, I was advised by a bone specialist and my doctor to gain some weight for bone health, so as I gained weight I bought the same brand and cut of jeans in a larger size. Right now I have four pairs of those jeans. They are aging so I wanted to buy new ones. First I couldn't find the same cut/brand/fabric and when I found something I thought was nearly the same they were three inches too long and too snug. I almost cried. Then I tried another manufacturer and found something that almost fit, so I returned the ones that were too small to exchange for the next larger size. It was agonizing to think about the larger size and I had to use all my spiritual skills to get over that and not worry about the number. It's not like the jeans have a sign on the behind that tells everyone what size they are. Finding a pair of jeans that fit is my current project. I'm glad I started it while I still have some that fit and are wearable.
Another thought about clutter clearing. My husband noted that when he was thinning out his books and videos that it was hard to do because he felt so guilty about all the money he had spent on them and now he was giving them away. That fits in so well with our current mindset of intentional living. The more careful you are about what you buy, the less you have to get rid of later, and the less remorseful you feel about all of it.
When I have trouble sleeping, I read. It turns what could have become wasted time into a delightful session of time abundance for reading. My list of books I want to read is endless and I welcome the opportunity to read. I am too active all day so except for audio books while I walk and reading the bathroom, I don't have any reading time.
My morning dog walking friend overslept yesterday so I had an extra hour to listen to my audio book. I was worried when she didn't show up because she lives alone so I was happy when she texted me about 30 minutes into my walk to say that she overslept. She came over later for our regular Friday morning dance session.

Rain, rain, rain, rain. Wind.
Family just got back from buying a rug. Before they went out Bea had a major meltdown, because she didn't want to go out. I was having a nap, so pushed my earplugs in further!
They came back in a much better mood and had located a couple of screens for Bea and Max to play games on.
Previous to that Bea had been happily writing a storyboard for a book, with an amazing blurb on the back. Blurbs are very hard to write, but she just looked at one on the back of her current book, and produced a professional standard paragraph!
Edie is also writing a great story about a crocodile. She is currently typing it out with DH on his laptop.
Parents relaxing on their phones.

Good morning ladies!
Katla - we are getting a little rain here right now too. We won't get a lot, I hope it at least settles the dust.
Heather - we'll take that rain!
Ginny - sounds like you have a fun day ahead. Have a great time.
Margaret - I love reading about your organizing and this morning purchased "Organized Enough" from Amazon, a used copy.
Rosie goes to the groomer this Tuesday, and I'm rounding up items to drop into their "free" box. DH had a lot of down vests and fall jackets, some of them will go along with dressier work pants I'll never wear again. I'm also going through the pantry, thinning out canned goods and unexpired cake mixes I'll never use. The price of groceries keeps going up and there will be families who can use it.
Barbie - much appreciate your post this morning about jeans and intentional living. I never get tired of reading about this topic.
About jeans - I just went through my stack of jeans. My favorite and best fitting ones came from Christopher and Banks and Dress Barn - both companies are out of business I think or at least no longer have local stores where I can go in and try on clothing. Those stores catered to people like me - sold quality items at a good price, many larger and tall sizes.
I'm happy to report I can fit into some of those jeans again. At least I can get them over my hips and zipped & buttoned. Wear comfortably? Not quite, but there's been some good slow progress and I'm fine with that. A couple months ago I couldn't get them over my hips. Slow and steady wins the race.
Carnivore/low carb - My younger brother, who is 70, decided he needed to lose a few pounds and has gone from 224 to 216 on the carnivore diet. Eats only meat. He's been at it a couple weeks - he's around 6'2" and his goal was to reduce that belly fat.
I'm wondering if going super low carb for up to a week at a time would be a means of losing recently gained belly fat type weight. I'm not sure how long Bob is planning to do the carnivore thing, what his goal is, etc., but I messaged him and hope he has time for further discussion.
What's for supper? - since I only cook for me now, I am in a rut supper-wise. Those of you who are only cooking for yourselves - what does your supper look like? Lots of salads? Left overs? (I'm running low on those and haven't been inspired to make anything with the hot heat-the-kitchen-up type weather.)

Lanette - I found I had a lot of traditions about supper that were not helpful. These days I eat eggs and yogurt in the morning, oatmeal with protein powder and blueberries for lunch at eleven, then a smoothie and a small portion of boiled chicken around two. Whether that counts as supper or not I don't know. But it's nothing like the social meat and potatoes supper at five that I had growing up. I find that eating the chicken especially, gets a little dreary, but there's such a small portion that it doesn't much matter. I'm not looking for entertainment or excitement in my food anymore, unless I go out.
So that routine works for me until we have guests or some interruption, then it takes a few days to get back to it. Hope you find something that works for you.
Annie in Delaware3 -
Lanette, My situation is different from yours for a variety of reasons, but if I lived alone I would eat exactly the same thing every day, I have an Isagenix shake for breakfast, an Isagenix bar for a snack, one of ten lunch choices that fit Jake's low salt, low potassium plan , yogurt at bedtime. My supper is a turkey burger ( I make five burgers with a pound of meat and freeze them) and 8-10 ounces of frozen mixed veggies. For snacks I have quarter of an apple of a string cheese.
Book recommendation for getting your stuff organized "Outer Order Inner Calm" by Gretchen Rubin.
Today we were talking about what a great investment we made in buying a furnace and heat pump. It's almost never too hot in our house to cook or to sleep.
Rain may be coming but I'll be able to work in the yard this morning.
Annie, I agree with you that it's a good thing to not be thinking about food as entertainment

News this morning hits close to home. This past week they have arrested a 13, 14, and 15 year old in different incidents for having guns and shooting people. The 13 YO killed the owner of the car he stole when the owner confronted him. It is so sad how many kids do things like this. Not be political but it is not the weapon that kills, it’s improper education, and parenting. Just my opinion. It worries me as much ygs turns 13 today and my 14 yo ogs turns 15 in Feb. Scary to think kids that young can do such horrendous things.
Fitbits/trackers I’ve always had Fitbits since the Fitbit one came out. I had that one for a long time then it ‘died’ upgraded to a watch-style that I had won at a convention, then tried an Apple Watch but didn’t think it was worth it for me and back to a Fitbit. A perk of my Advantage health plan offers me a certain amount of money each quarter to spend on health care items they offer. Happily, they offer serval versions of the Fitbit, and got my last one through them, a Fitbit Versa2 and I’ve had it for 2 years now. Still working fine. I’ll look at them in January and decide then if I want a new one. I’d like to get the Inspires as it is smaller on my wrist.
We are still in the triple digit heat here and I’m using that as an excuse not to walk or do yoga. Just going through a rough time due to stressors I have no control over. I’ll get over it, always do, but meanwhile my weight is hanging in there and not going up so that’s a good thing.

Lanette, There is a book I read called “Wheat Belly” by Dr.William Davis, MD. explains why eating things with wheat in it (carbs) makes us get large bellies. Having read that and done it, I can say it will help going super low carb for up to a week, but then not adding back everything you stopped would really help. If you can eat eggs, lots of eggs, cheese, yogurt, berries, macadamia nuts, or any tree nut (not peanuts) work. For example, I will have cheese and pepperoni for dinner (no crackers unless keto crackers), we eat our large meal early afternoon. Or I will have a couple ‘turkey sticks” look like small pepperoni but made with turkey and not so spicy. Olives are good too. A dish with different cold meats and cheeses, and pickled items is also really good.

The pizzas all went down great. Four of us had half each. Three had whole
There were lots of toppings I provided to choose from. Plus fries I did in the oven. Some salad bits. Great success with AF wine and beer and 'DH s 'magic potion ' for the kids.
Today has been the opposite of a lower carb day , but I will get back to it tomorrow. Too hard to keep to it with everything going on.
My son has got our 'smart' TV going again. It had lost its smarts.

Canned my first preserved item ever today! Have been really craving sweet pickles, and Corey is strickly a kosher garlic dill guy, so I took a bunch of his young cucumbers and made about three pints start to finish. So far, nothing broke, exploded, leaked, or otherwise behaved badly! Not sure what I was dreading.
Every canning day was such a production growing up, but I've realized, watching Corey, who does small batch canning, that Mama was also canning vegetables and fruits and such from a large garden for a large family. Doesn't have to be hours of sweaty work. Corey is also a relaxed and calm cook... and I am not. Usually. But this morning, by just dinking around in the kitchen, and poking my neck in to ask him a question or two, it all worked out fine.
He's just back after going to the Saturday meat sale in town and picked up the fresh veg and fruits. I had a Walmart delivery early, with the paper goods, etc. He's now making sausage, and I'm going to go outside and get a thing or two done. Promised rain sprinkles haven't panned out, but clouds and a nice breeze have kept it more reasonable. Need to pull the laundry in off the line first!
Later, y'all,
Much love,

It sounds like a little thing, but Teddy is back to going up and down the stairs by himself. Yay! I'm still afraid he will trip himself with his big collar, but I'm glad he has some mobility.
I did some laundry today, and a trip to the drugstore. It's a recovery day, after an active week. I'm close to my regular diet, and I should be able to do the bike and dumbbells yet today.

Lisa ~ Congrats on getting into the smaller size jeans and for fighting the phone compay for a better price. Your quilts are pretty. I have never canned anything so hope your pickles come out great.
Kim ~ So sorry to hear about your poor dog’s ear infection.
Pip ~ Your niece walking 6 miles is amazing. So good that she is not losing her enthusiasm and know that you offer her a challenge that will change her life.
Vicki ~ What a scare for your sugar to be that high. Please follow the best eating plan prescribed and take your meds. Hope when the steroids are finished it will be more normal.
Tracey ~ Your quilts are lovely. I used a quilt my Grandmother gave me all the way through collegs. Your grandson sounds very smart with his gaming.
Heather ~ A weekend with the son’s family sounds well planned. So glad you are able to help them out. I like the photo of the children doing their art.
Debbie ~ Joel’s quilts are beautifully done and very much different
in looks than the ones made many years ago. Very modern.
Lanette ~ What's for supper? That’s the question I ask every morning and throughout the day. If only my DH would suggest something sometimes, but, he goes along with whatever I end up cooking most of the time. I have always thought I should fix a protein, vegetable, and carb but that doesn’t happen all the time.
Well, I have been trying to catch up reading for the last few days and I have finally got to the end!
I have spent the last 3 days trying to get a new iphone working with all the input from my old iphone. It has taken me 6 trips back and forth to TMobile to get it done. All because I couldn't remember my Apple password. A kind tech was able to do it this afternoon and I am pleased. He used my old phone and my DH's phone to get it done.
