I ran 6 uneventful, but nice miles this morning. I had hoped that I could outrun covid, but I tested positive today. So far I have been feeling fine. I just tested because my husband had it, and that's what you do. My head has started feeling a little stuffy this evening, but so far no fever or coughing. Hopefully it won't be too bad. Kind of puts a damper on Christmas though.
*sighs* Same...
COVID + @0430
Yes, fully vaccinated to my eyeballs. No amount of running can outrun COVID
Texted Running Partner A that I would run by my lonesome...she came anyway.
Difficult night, poor sleep
Difficulty swallowing, ears blocked/hurt, headache, temp 98.4°F (normal for me is 97.6°F)
Body starting to hurt, muscle fatigue
Tylenol @ midnight
Contac Mult symptom @0800
156.48 miles away, I would need 17.39 miles per day to make it...
as of this morning, Mom is negative, doing my best to lessen interaction, but she is now really confused.
If anyone would allow me to add my walk miles, then I could say I did make 6000 miles, but I feel bad for adding them since I did not specify last January

project9percent wrote: »Hi! I quickly glanced at most of the updates since last time I checked the thread. Everyone is doing a great job in spite of setbacks or life getting in the way. Here are some comments for the pals right above me.
@mari33a - Let's hope for better weather in the next few days. Do you have a jumping rope? I've tried to do that to cross train from running and I found it to be harder than running.
Thanks for the suggestion. I do have a skipping rope but haven't used it in a few years. I used to skip daily when my kids were small and was quite fast. If I do run skipping on the spot it wouldn't be that different to running on a treadmill. I was checking my data on Garmin and my average since October gives 1000 steps = .55 miles or 1 mile = 1791 steps. You may have solved my weather problem without getting a treadmill
@kgirkhart - That's a downer on your Covid result. Hope you don't feel too bad.
4 -
dang it @AlphaHowls very sorry to hear you tested positive too!!! Do what ever you need to do to get better, and sure, you can add you walking miles. It's your goal, you do what you want with it!7

Visited two doctors on Tuesday and ended up walking many, many steps to, inbetween and back from them and was a great visit. Had a very short anesthesia for a gastroscopy yesterday and felt tired most of the day hence I moved my long run to today. And what a run! It felt so easy and I could have run on and on. But adhering to the 10% rule I didn't want to overdo things and stopped here. Longest run without walking for ages. Previous longest was 3.4km. This time thus 5km. Getting there. Oh btw, it's storming but I managed to find a dry running spot inbetween horizontal rain showers.8 -
@quilteryoyo great job on the miles!
@kgirlhart sorry to hear about the positive covid test - fingers crossed that you stay symptom free.
@AlphaHowls sorry to hear about your positive Covid test and the sore throat/ears/head and fever. Here’s hoping it’ll be a shortened version of the illness.
@kgirlhart and @AlphaHowls great job on the December miles!
@Teresa502 congrats on the 5-miler time improvement!4 -
Thanks @Scott6255 , @tarun_yadavA , @SummerSkier , @Laurz9191 , @Teresa502 , @Mari33a , @AlphaHowls. So far I am feeling ok. Just like a mild head cold. Hopefully it won't get too much worse. I didn't run this morning. I had already planned on a rest day because of the weather. I will probably do some yoga in a bit, but other than that I am going to try to just rest and stay hydrated.
@AlphaHowls I am so sorry you tested positive too. I hope your mom stays negative and that you feel better soon. And if you want to add your walking miles I say go for it.
@Teresa502 Congratulations on your race! That is an impressive improvement over last year.
6 -
So sorry that you have been hit by the COVID virus also @AlphaHowls. Please take care of yourself and count those walking miles. You need your health over everything so if that means giving your body some rest, then please listen to it and get better. We (and your mom) need you around for the long haul!6
-
@AlphaHowls I would say wait until Monday. Then add your walking miles and give it to yourself as a gift.

@AlphaHowls Oh noooo! But please do stay in for now. Not sure how remote you live but if there's any risk of infecting others then stay inside. Also, covid can hit your heart pretty hard. Give your body time to heal first before you do anything half strenuous, even if it's 'just' walking.3
-
Tried out 2 miles on our new 2 in 1 walking pad/treadmill. 16:18 pace. Hubby and I decided to get it to use when the weather’s bad or to be able to train when it’s dark out after work. Our family room hasn’t been getting used so we moved all our workout equipment down to the family room and have turned it into a home gym.8 -
08/12 4.12 miles
10/12 4.09 miles
12/12 3.08 miles
21/12 1.17 miles (2000 skips)
Total 24.05 miles/50 miles
I’m taking my goal back to 50 miles cos 60 isn’t going to happen, 50 probably isn’t either unless the weather settles. I felt I cud have skipped longer but felt my calf’s getting tight so thought I’d better not over do it to start with.
@AlphaHowls Sorry to see you have Covid too. Take care of yourself9 -
Well JEEZ.... @AlphaHowls whatever you count you are still the MOST AMAZING runner and your accomplishments this year are incredible. Please take care of yourself. COVID is really ramping up again all over. sigh.
Managed a PIE run today ♓️ but I don't think I will hit 140 as it's forecast to be a bit rainy over the next week. I went out in the mist and luckily only did the short version as it started to rain pretty hard right after I got home.

@chris_in_cal @tarun_yadavA thanks for the London info on miles, very interesting.
@AlphaHowls & @kgirlhart wishing you both a speedy recovery.
@Mari33a I'm glad you could use the suggestion and it's great to see you doing the workouts already. The last few times I used my jumping rope my achilles screamed at the during and after so yeah dont overdo it.
Update from 12/21. Run/walk still doing 3.5 mins run / 1 min walk. My garmin watch is having me work on cadence as I go. Let's hope that helps efficiency and speed.
12/2 - 1.59 miles
12/5 - 1.50 miles
12/7 - 1.77 miles
12/9 - 1.99 miles
12/13 - 2.73 miles with my local running group
12/15 - 1.47 miles
12/17 - 2.55 miles "long run" up to 3:1 walk/run
12/19 - 2.63 miles
12/21 - 1.97 miles
Total 21.21/30

Hey! New profile pic. Very nice. I'm glad you made it here to this thread.
2 -
Thanks @project9percent .
@Mari33a I remember skipping rope all the time as a kid, but I tried it in college and it was so hard. I haven't tried it since I lost weight and started running, but I bet it is still hard.
I have spent most of the day on the couch resting. But I did go with my husband to walk the dog. We just went around the block. Actually, we cut through the alley, so it was really just half the block. And I did some yoga, but it was relaxing, not strenuous.6 -
Beautiful pictures of the sky @AlphaHowls ! Congrats on the 2060 day running streak too! A-Maz-Ing! So sorry to see that you have CoVID too. I hope you get rid of your symptoms quickly and your mom stays well. I have NO problem with you including your walking miles in your total for the year.
Nice run @kgirlhart . Sorry to hear that your DH shared his CoVID though. I hope you continue to feel okay. I also hope you will be able to get together with family later. It's great that you got out for a short walk. Fresh air usually makes me feel a little better.
Thanks. I hope your energy returns soon @Laurz9191 . You are doing great when you don't really have the energy for the runs.
Congratulations on your awesome time for that race @Teresa502 ! I liked that race too, but since it is the week after the 10 miler in FL, I probably won't run it anymore, unless I can't go to FL for some reason in the future. It is a cool race though. You did great! I hope your trip to FL was nice too and not rainy the entire time.
I'm glad your procedure went well @yirara and congrats on the 5K running today. You did great and good job not overdoing it!
@daria0919 It's nice that you now have a workout room. Do you like the walking pad?
@Mari33a Good idea to not overdo a new exercise! You did great.
Glad you missed the heavy rain @SummerSkier !
You are doing great @project9percent .

I took mom and had her tested this morning, as she has had a bad cough and really runny/stuffy nose for a couple of days. Fortunately, she is negative for all the bad things going around right not. She got meds to help with her symptoms, so hopefully she will be back to normal by the weekend. We were just wanting to make sure before being around all of the family for the holidays - too many old and really young people in the mix.
I didn't have the energy for a run today, so Tippy and I walked to get the mail and then I completed my fast mile with extra driveway laps.5 -
Get well soon @AlphaHowls and @kgirlhart!
I'm glad your mom avoided the bad stuff @quilteryoyo and hope she feels better too.
Nice racing @Teresa502!! That's a big drop in time.4 -
December total: 98.4/164 miles
12/1: 6 miles
12/2: 12 miles
12/4: 9 miles
12/5: 2.7 miles
12/7: 5 miles
12/9: 10 miles
12/11: 8.8 miles

12/15: 6 miles
12/17: 12 miles
12/18: 5.7 miles
12/21: 8 miles
No running for a couple of days. 1 was a scheduled rest day but the other was the consequence of an unexpected call to work that required a 60 mile drive each way.
This morning I did 6 mi at race pace, 1 mi warm up, 1 mi cool down. It went really well. Target was 9:18 and I averaged 9:14.
6 -
Oh no! @kgirlhart and @AlphaHowls - I hope you have mild cases!
@AlphaHowls is there anyone else who could come in and help out with your mom?
I am definitely in the count all your walking miles group - goodness you certainly do enough to get credit for all of it.
Also I love your sunrise pictures! The colors are spectacular! Did you notice the heart in the middle of the one picture? I am pretty sure it is a leaf just perfectly situated. So cool.
@Teresa502 - congratulations on your race and the time drop! Fantastic!
@quilteryoyo - I hope your mom feels better soon and that you don't get sick too!
@Laurz9191 - Strange that you are still feeling so low energy for so long. Any chance you could have had covid and not known and now are feeling the after affects? Might be time to see the doctor and get checked out to see what's going on.
@daria0919 - which walking pad did you get? How do you like it? I have been thinking it would be good to have in
I was able to get in a walk 3 days in a row before the rain hit So Cal. I am at a little over 12 miles and hope I can get in a few over the weekend and maybe even on Christmas. I have a treatment next Tuesday and probably won't feel up to doing much the rest of the week. I would love to hit my nominal 20 mile walking goal to close out the year. I could have walked today because the predicted heavy rain didn't happen until later, but today and tomorrow are filled with lab tests and doctor appointments. Hobbes the Vizsla also had surgery today to remove a suspicious mass on his leg as well as extract a cracked tooth. He did fine but is still really out of it.I don't go out anywhere much these days and not without a mask indoors. My blood counts are so low that I am pretty sure the doctor is going to tell me tomorrow that we shouldn't go to the family Christmas dinner. Our niece flew out from DC and we haven't seen her in a couple of years. I am thinking we could go just to drop off gifts and a short visit. We'll see, I don't want to end up in the hospital at this point either.10 -
Morning all
Got in 5M (09"15 pace).
Last day of work today... Back in London tonight for a few nights, then back at Mums in Essex on Xmas eve.
@AlphaHowls @kgirlhart ... And @Laurz9191 get well soon ladies!9 -
Thanks @martaindale ! You are getting so speedy! Great running.
Thanks @shanaber . I hope you tests go well and you get in a couple of walks. Hang in there. I know that you want to see your niece. Can you do something with her outside so you aren't in an enclosed area? Maybe a porch visit? Poor Hobbes. It doesn't look like he is happy with that collar at all. I hope everything turns out well for him too.
Another nice run @tarun_yadavA .6 -
Dec 2 – 10.10 miles

80.85 miles/100 mile goal
I met a couple of friends for 5 miles this morning and after parting ways, I drove to work and ran another 3 miles. The weather was decent at 32F.
Thanks everyone on the kudos from my time improvement on the 5-mile race. Early on the last mile, I passed a couple of guys that I knew who were taking a walk break. They ended up passing me once they started back running. I passed them again when they took another walk break and I was determined to stay ahead of them. About a quarter mile before the finish, a lady was standing on the side and I asked her how close the guys behind me were (cuz I was too cool to look back myself). She said they were pretty close so I dug in a little deeper to ensure I would finish ahead of them. Turns out they really weren’t that close but she gave me the kick I needed.
@shanaber – I was thinking you were nearing the end of your treatments. How many more do you have? You are such a strong person to continue to get out and walk when you can and to give your body rest when it needs it. Sometimes, it’s harder to do the later. Poor Hobbes – he looks so pitiful! I’m sure he’s back to his dapper self today though!
@quilteryoyo – The weather was cool, but no rain while I was in Florida. Compared to here, it was glorious! I like the course at Davy Crockett much better than the one we ran together at Roan Mountain State Park. I hope your mom gets better soon.

Just a quick post to let you know I am here. I know how I felt about PastorVincent and MobyCarp when they suddenly quit posting. So here I am.
UpdateAs of this morning, Mom is still symptom free.
Very rough evening. I was feeling scared. I lost two clients early COVID (2020). One of them I spoke to and the last thing he said to me, "I feel worse than worse." The other one had just accomplished his dream of owning an antique car.
I did battle a fever through the night. My sinuses have drained and I can breathe (snotty, but breathing). My body hurts: joints, muscles, skin (sensitive). Bad headache and my ears still hurt/feel blocked, hurts to swallow.
What you are dying to know. Yes, I am going to try to keep my streak. I just need one mile and I have 13 more hours to accomplish it.
There were some posts I wanted to reply to, but my brain is not helping. One is not being near others. I live in semi-rural area. Interaction with others is limited to the fact that my mother and I are in the same home. My running Partner did come and run with me because we were outside on Thursday.8 -
@alphahowls @kgirlhart Hope you feel better soon!!! I’m send you both good vibes from Germany. Same to @shanaber that your blood count goes up and you recover your strength and that Hobbes feels better soon too!!!
There was some massive storm/rain/wind system that was still sticking around here this morning, so I opted for the gym today. To be honest, I had a massive chip on my shoulder and really needed to blow off steam. The warm air in the gym seemed to make the difference in comparison to my failed speedwork attempt yesterday. I was barely coughing and after warming up ran a 20 minute speed ladder giving me a faster pace than I’ve had on ages. It was a success. I ran 7.2km bringing my total to 100.7/160km for December.

Still storming here. I thought I'd found a moment to run without rain. Yeah, of course not. It started to rain (ice cold and horizontal) when I was halfway in. Was supposed to be a slow run but ehm.. nope, didn't work. Got at least the fastest 3km in in ages. Not complaining.6 -
6.15 miles this evening. Haven't been outside since Monday, but really haven't felt like it. But today felt good. Didn't push it and still had a good pace.
7 -
Nice running @Teresa502 . I love that thinking the guys were close behind you gave you a push to go faster at the end of the race.
Thanks for checking in @AlphaHowls . I hope you start feeling better soon. Are you taking anything for your symptoms - Mucinex, antihistamine, cough suppressant? We were also told to take zinc and I don't really recall what else. I hope your mom stays symptom free.
I'm glad your run helped your mood @Laurz9191 . Great job on being speedier than normal too.
@yirara Sorry you got caught in a cold rain, but it sure did motivate you to get done quicker.
You're doing great @Scott6255 .4 -

Mom is feeling much better today. Thanks for all of the good wishes for her.6 -
I hope those that are battling Covid are resting up and will recover quickly! ((hugs)) to you both @AlphaHowls and @kgirlhart!
I’m still very amazed at the great miles so many of you cover!
I managed 2 miles on the treadmill today.
