Tracey my sister is retiring at the end of the month, and might come back in January. It all depends on my mother's condition.
Mom was defiant last night. She had totally forgotten her cancer diagnosis, and claimed she didn't need help. We got home at three, and she sat in one spot until I went to bed. She must have made it up the stairs later with Dad.
She doesn't like the hospital bed we got as an alternative to climbing the stairs. I was a little upset last night that I had gone to such trouble, and now she says she isn't sick and doesn't need any care. But I texted my sister and my friends and they helped me feel better. It's such an emotional journey. And the painkillers are going to take her dementia to the next level.
Anyway I must have forgotten to let Teddy out because he really wanted to get up and go at midnight. Very unusual.
It's so marvelous to be able to post to you all in the middle of the night! Thank you for your well wishes. It really helps me.

Hi, I am trying to become part of the group "Women Ages 50+ For December", but I am not quite sure yet, how and where to post and how to answer a post. At the moment I am experiencing and am happy for any kind of support.
My name ist Svenja, in my younger years I was reasonably fit and not overweight. Unfortunately both changed over the years, partly also due to illness. Now I am a happy grandma and want to get fit enough to play soccer, roll on the floor with the kids and be able to get up from the floor without help :-). Is anyone here in a similar situation? It would be great, if we could share success and failure and support each other. I want to be a "fitte Oma" (German for fit grandma). - Svenja

You'll find a lot of us in this group are walkers. Some of us use equipment such as treadmills. And some of us walk outside when we can or in our houses or gyms. Keeping our legs strong helps getting up from the floor. It's something easy to do if you are new to exercise and keeps injury risk low.

Tracey - I LOVE your village ♥️ But I am a sucker for anything miniature. I might get my mini Santons out this year and make a little scene.
Bea is now busy playing Swashbuckle on my tablet. She arrived at 7.15. We had a great painting session first thing, with John doing an autumn scene and Bea and I copying a demo on Instagram for an easy Christmas card. I will give mine to G on Wednesday. Bea is giving hers to her mum and dad. I did take a pic of hers, it was excellent, but I accidentally deleted it 🙃. This is mine.
Just waiting for Max to turn up for lunch.

Beth - I think your husband is way off the mark. Sometimes finding those "best by" dates are nearly impossible unless the light is just right and sometimes the volunteers don't have the best eyesight. You did a great job finding the info and making it readable. I wonder if you could contact someone at the church and ask them what they think? Maybe if you get someone else on your "team" he'll be OK with it.
I also did a pantry cleanout yesterday and took a load over to a neat little town not far from me. A couple of the cans were a month past the "best by" date but I put them the in boxes anyway.
Allie - I laughed out loud at your fun night. What a wonderful time, you'll all remember it.
Pip - you know we need you here to inspire us PLUS you have THE BOOT which will probably get a work out soon
Tracey - so nice hearing about your girls getting creative with the village scene. Love that they enjoy being together like that -- brings back many good memories of being together with my siblings. Glad to hear sales were better yesterday.

Annie - so glad you were able to contact your sister and friends with your mom's situation. Can you get her to take her pills? Do you think your dad fully understands what's going on or is he counting on her to get better? Having your sis come when she retires will help if she can swing it. Hope they have scheduled the hospice nurse to stop by a lot.

I read over the description on mine - INTJ-A and it fits. Kay - do you identify with the INTJ-A description?
I remembered from MBTI that my type navigates through the world by identifying and assimilating patterns. I stumbled across a box of puzzles my DH used to work on, and grabbed a 100 piece one. Got it put together pretty quickly (thank you brain) with a couple breaks and took note of how I did it. Sorted out the edge pieces. Then colors. Then detail within each piece. That's probably how everyone does it.
As my DH's memory started to slip, he was no longer interested in puzzles or even playing solitaire on his computer and he had liked to play the most complicated versions. Speaking of solitaire, I need to pull out a deck of cards and do it the old-fashioned way - laying them out on the table. Get away from the screen for a while.
Looks like we're in for some potential flooding. The first week of December is known for nasty weather in the Pacific Northwest. Damaging windstorms, historic floods seem to happen then. December 3, 2007, we had the 1000 year flood which washed out parts of I-5, several bridges and destroyed many homes. The atmospheric river heading for us doesn't seem that bad but snow in the mountains will melt, rivers will overflow.

Well, I am way behind the times, but today was the first day I have used the Alexa facility on my phone.
Bea wanted us to play a Christmas song about mince pies and asked if we had an Alexa. We don't, but I thought I would see what my phone could do, as it often prompts me to ask.
Wonderful! We had a great time with Christmas pop songs and then I asked her to time my pasta. Don't know where I've been all this time.!!! (John won't have a proper Alexa)

It's not surprising that there are so many Logisticians and/or I__Js here.
First of all, the ISTJ type is one of the most common.

Second, from my observations over a few different forums over the past couple decades, introverts tend to use forums more than extroverts. Extroverts tend to prefer in-person communication rather than spending time on a computer. I know that introverts like me prefer to type communication rather than speak communication.
Third, the Logistician types may tend to use computers more to fulfil our Logistician tasks.
So we tend to share some commonalities.

Good morning ladies!
Lanette yes my mom will take small pills without asking too much. I'm thinking of discontinuing her heart pills. The hospice nurse seemed to think her antidepressant should be stopped. I disagree. We get a better review of her meds on Monday with another hospice nurse.
Well my dad said we have to convince "the patient" that the new bed is a good place to sleep. So he is on my side for this issue. Sometimes I don't know whether he is in denial or dementia or just being quiet.
If mom can make it up the stairs, that's great. But when she can't, she will have an alternative sleeping in the new bed. If she falls on the stairs, there will be a new set of issues.

Lanette, yes. The results of the personality test described me pretty well. The A did seem to fit me better than the T.
Beth, although I don’t see anything wrong with the dates being written on the cans, I would probably just keep those for my own use and buy some specifically for donating, just to keep the peace. When we buy food for donation, I always get the bundled ones to take advantage of the savings in unit price. I rarely get those for our personal use because I don’t have room to store them. I’m a big fan of getting the canned chicken, green beans and corn. I don’t know why. I also like to give spaghetti sauce and noodles.
I just threw out two jars of turkey gravy because thry were past the best by date. One was November of 2022 and the other was July of this year. On the other hand, I used a package of shredded mozzarella last night that had a best buy of Oct 2023. It tasted fine and we’re still alive this morning. I did consider using the newer of the two in my gravy at Thanksgiving, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it.5 -
Today’s gratitude: T’s “feelings wouldn’t be hurt if” I’d rather stay home by the fire. Was pouring down rain and windy. Sigh of relief. Joe built a nice fire and I thoroughly enjoyed it, only leaving for a few hours to run some necessary errands.
Valerie, I was born in San Francisco, lived 9 years in the East Bay (Albany), moved to small town in Northern California (Ukiah) ‘til was 18, then back to the East Bay (Berkeley, Piedmont, Oakland, San Leandro) ‘til 1997 when my job moved us to Boise Idaho (culture and climate shock ;> ). Retired to the Southern Oregon Coast in 2016. No kids, two half sisters in So Calif who I didn’t meet ‘til we were in our forties. Fostered three teenaged nephews for a couple years. (Two are Iowa, one in Idaho, all three are alive and not in jail, thank goodness.) Before I was married, traveled to the Midwest (for kin), NorthEast (for work), England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Israel. After marriage mot travel was road trips to visit family in the Missouri, Iowa and Kentucky. DH no longer likes to travel much but recently commented it would be fun to go back to our old camping spot in the Sierras, maybe this summer? Fingers Xd.

Today I ran (organised, hosted) the biggest cycling event our club puts on each year. This is my 4th or 5th year of running it.
We didn't have as big a crowd as last year, but I suspect some of them were put off by the predictions of a bit of rain today, and in fact, one didn't turn up because it was misting in the morning. But by 7 am when the riders started, it was just barely misting, and shortly after their departure, it stopped raining and became a really lovely day.
My volunteer crew were fantastic and the riders were enthusiastic and in good spirits despite having to climb over 4000 metres in 200 km. The ride is difficult and we advertise it as being a tremendously difficult ride. That's half the attraction! The way the riders handle this event never ceases to amaze me.
Running this event each year definitely takes me out of my comfort zone ... I have to be social! Oh well, that's probably good for me.
I am very tired now ... early start, elevated tension level all day, long day.
Thankfully, I took tomorrow off work.

Wow! Great job on the cycling event, Machka. A massive amount of work.
It is absolutely pouring with rain now, so I hope the Cyclo-cross is over. Max arrived at the door absolutely soaked. Wet and cold is no fun. Hoping Edie and DDIL did OK, so it was worth the horrible weather and the early start! They always seem in good spirits when they come back.
I produced a decent lunch, frankfurters for Max, pasta and pesto for Bea, pasta and smoked salmon and cream cheese for me, salmon and cream cheese sandwiches for DH. I enjoyed mine so much I'm doing it again for dinner, with broccoli. I use Philly Light.
Max had a really great time in Germany and seems to have enjoyed every minute. A good experience for him.

You're not supposed to eat less than 1200 calories per day and especially not less than 1000 calories per day. MFP would run into legal issues if they condoned starvation diets. So yes, they'll tell you that you are not eating enough if you try to log too low.
The calorie amount I can eat without gaining or losing weight is something like 1600 calories, so if I go for 1350 (which I often do when I'm on a mission to lose weight), I'm in a 250 calorie per day deficit.
When I lost 15 kg in 15 weeks, I did it on 1250 calories a day (plus whatever percentage of exercise calories).

Morning, all... from the predawn chill of the Arkansas River Valley, skimming along right at freezing this morning,
Made a fire (for Egg, of course) and it's taking the early morning chill off the living room. Odd dreams, as I watched the movie "Lucy," just before bed. I watch very, very few movies a second time, I think because I don't usually like knowing what's going to happen next, so I get bored. This has to be the third or fourth time I've watched this movie. It triggers a lot of deep thought for me.
It didn't make for restful sleep, but I didn't wake up in pain, either, which is always appreciated. I really am interested in the acupuncture appointment on Wednesday, to see if it is worth the time and the energy and the VA's money. It would be wonderful if it worked. I started the iron chewables yesterday that are supposed to be easier on your system, and it's just too soon to know if they will help the digestive upset. I was dealing with too many other things going on, body-wise, to know if they made a real difference.
Allie - I love the idea of a mistaken party crash being a wonderful night out. I would imagine there were gales of laughter all night, from all of you. What a terrific way to spend time with friends!
Annie - Don't forget, too, that there is a lot of research on dementia showing the sundowner's issues--your mom may always be hardest to deal with at night. From the Mayo Clinic: "Sundowning can cause different behaviors, such as confusion, anxiety, aggression or ignoring directions."
Barbara AHMOD - Glad you had your time sitting with a fire made for you, it's such a loving gesture from Joe and a soul-soothing thing. Corey grew up with a wood stove, and has mentioned more than once that he would like to get one that will fit into this fireplace, for much more efficient, effective warmth. I think he's finally understanding this year the satisfaction of an open fire. It's quite possible that Egg's obvious enjoyment of it and peaceful naps in front of it are more convincing for him than my arguments to keep the fireplace open. He loves that cat.
Machka - Holy guacamole, woman, that sounds utterly exhausting and incredibly rewarding for you at the same time. I always find myself in awe at your energy and ability to accomplish so much. Well done!
Heather - Sounds like a lovely time with Bea and with Max, on a cold and blustery winter's day. Hope your DDIL and Edie had a great time, too. Hope your afternoon out with John tomorrow is lovely, as well.
Tracey - Absolutely love your village, and your miniatures are just charming. I'm finally realizing after years with all of you, that it's not the holiday I avoid, but the work. In other words, I'm lazy, and I'd genuinely prefer someone else does it! Thank you for that, and thank you to Kaitlyn and Michaela for the setup work!
Beth - I don't think the dates are a big deal... but you could also scrub the Sharpie off most likely, with rubbing alcohol or using a dry-erase marker to rub over the Sharpie marks, and then just wiping off both marks with a paper towel. Works on most surfaces. I wouldn't worry about it, but if it makes your husband feel better, I think it's great.
Just went shopping in our freezer for Sunday dinner. Pulled a pork loin (from February!) and bacon out to thaw--Corey will be making pork tenderloin medallions wrapped in bacon with potatoes au gratin and green beans (also frozen--the fresh ones looked awful yesterday). I just chopped up the fresh parsley I used earlier in the week and portioned it out by the tablespoons in a muffin pan, with a couple tablespoons of water in each. Great for things like tonight's potatoes or soups or stews. When they're frozen solid, I'll pull them out and put them in a zip lock, like little frozen coins of fresh parsley. It makes me so happy when I can take something that cost a dollar and make it stretch to 12 dishes instead of using it in one and letting the rest go to waste.
Ah, I've rattled on long enough. Time to get Corey's third cup of coffee to him, freshen up the fire and get something cleaned. I love mornings... energy without pain, so lovely. I desperately need to find some balance from mornings to afternoon.

Stacey from Virginia Beach - turning 47 this month. Tracking in MFP has helped me keep control of what I am eating. It is also rewarding to see how satisfied I can be with a lower calorie intake. Good Sunday morning, second day of December
Thank you for the welcome and also thank you for the link to the Personality Quiz Lisa! I am an INFP-T Mediator. I was a bit surprised at the ‘P’ because when I took Myers Briggs 20 years ago I was definitely a ‘J’. I thought that was because I make decisions firmly and quickly. But I also noticed when I was answering the questions this morning that I feel much more toward the middle in the answers now—neither Agree nor Disagree. So maybe that’s why the P. I think the other big change is that I no longer work nor do I have any allegiance to a volunteer or church organization. Very different from 20 years ago when I had a very demanding career and was a member of a very active church. The life change has increased the I part of me and since I don’t really know that many people “real time” anymore, the only people who are influenced by my decision making are the husband and the dog. I’ve felt quite a bit at sea since all that changed a few years ago. Now I live a quite solitary life where most of my friends are online. I do still attend a church, a different one, but I don’t involve myself very much with its activities. Still trying to deprogram myself from the past while still also having strong spiritual leanings….
Also thanks for the advice about calories in/calories out. I am focusing (hah, having just had cataract surgery two months ago that word now means something completely different) on eating the Rainbow. I’m not a big fruit/veggies person so that’s a challenge. What I really want is a simple food plan that doesn’t involve a lot of preparation. When I was visiting my cousin in Montreal in October I was impressed how organized her fridge was. Containers that were labeled with “prep date” so nothing was ever out of date. Veggies cut up and ready. The same breakfast daily—a healthy one. But she is a super organized person who loves routine. I’m a bit more wild child. But I can move myself a bit more toward the routine; did that years ago when I was able to get down to goal weight and kept it there for two years.
I am starting to blather so I will close for now. I apologize for not responding to people with their names. I write on my iPad and I’m still getting used to swiping up and down without losing the entire post7 -

They've just left! We got a text from DDIL to say they would pick up after 3 pm. So - we had Bea for nearly 9 hours. That's fine, but in the end we settled her down in front of cartoons, and the noise disturbs me, so I went upstairs for a bit and left John watching cricket on his laptop, with them. Max was bored, after having had a good time getting AI to compose Christmas poems. They were hilarious, and quite good!
I came downstairs, after listening to a podcast, to make tea and toast for everyone.
Earlier we had followed a YouTube video on how to do five different techniques of shading in a picture. Bea, John and I had a go. Should have been taught this stuff at school. I really enjoyed it. Max said he had already done it in Art.
My son said DDIL was doing well until she had a mechanical failure, and Edie came 4th girl. Mud everywhere!
Phew! If I'd known it was going to be so long I'd have taken us all to Fatto a Mano for lunch.
All good though.

Maybe if you get someone else on your "team" he'll be OK with it.
I also did a pantry cleanout yesterday and took a load over to a neat little town not far from me. A couple of the cans were a month past the "best by" date but I put them the in boxes anyway.

Tracey - so nice hearing about your girls getting creative with the village scene. Love that they enjoy being together like that -- brings back many good memories of being together with my siblings. Glad to hear sales were better yesterday.

Annie - so glad you were able to contact your sister and friends with your mom's situation. Can you get her to take her pills? Do you think your dad fully understands what's going on or is he counting on her to get better? Having your sis come when she retires will help if she can swing it. Hope they have scheduled the hospice nurse to stop by a lot.

I read over the description on mine - INTJ-A and it fits. Kay - do you identify with the INTJ-A description?
I remembered from MBTI that my type navigates through the world by identifying and assimilating patterns. I stumbled across a box of puzzles my DH used to work on, and grabbed a 100 piece one. Got it put together pretty quickly (thank you brain) with a couple breaks and took note of how I did it. Sorted out the edge pieces. Then colors. Then detail within each piece. That's probably how everyone does it.
As my DH's memory started to slip, he was no longer interested in puzzles or even playing solitaire on his computer and he had liked to play the most complicated versions. Speaking of solitaire, I need to pull out a deck of cards and do it the old-fashioned way - laying them out on the table. Get away from the screen for a while.
Looks like we're in for some potential flooding. The first week of December is known for nasty weather in the Pacific Northwest. Damaging windstorms, historic floods seem to happen then. December 3, 2007, we had the 1000 year flood which washed out parts of I-5, several bridges and destroyed many homes. The atmospheric river heading for us doesn't seem that bad but snow in the mountains will melt, rivers will overflow.

Good day to all!
Yesterday, we made a trip around the world through our bellies. We had food and beverages from Kenya, the Philippines, El Salvador, Japan, Norway, Denmark, Ukraine, Romania, Guam, China, Turkey, Hungary, Columbia, Germany, Puerto Rico, and Scotland. I also got more than 6 miles of walking in. We shared small bites, so we managed to make it home without being uncomfortable, probably for the first time in this tradition.
Today, we are eating our way around the U.S. for a chili cookoff. Proceeds go to charity. We will bike (it's closer and will still be daylight) and likely will be sleeping in separate rooms tonight.

After work went to CVS to get a prescription for Vince. The big-honcho from BK is supposed to be there today. First I was told between 9 and 12. Then I heard 9 and 5. Whatever, I’m not there. I was surprised that the store manager didn’t come at 9, but I guess she’s leaving things to the manager on duty. Personally, I wouldn’t be impressed, this is the manager who had a customer wait while she punched me out. But whatever…..
When I got to work I was surprised to see the front door open. They are supposed to be open at something like 5, but only (it seems) does the store manager have the doors open. I always thought they should be open. If I was a customer and the doors were supposed to be open but were locked, I sure wouldn’t like it. Plus...they are losing out on possible sales. The manager who was there today usually doesn’t have the doors open, but today she did. Probably because she knew that the BK biggie would be there and in case he came early, the doors were open.
Then walked down to Food Lion to get potato chips on sale. Will probably finish decorating the tree then want to start getting gifts in boxes ready to wrap.

What I don’t like about Christmas – I really don’t like when people get me things they think I’d like. I would much rather get something that I really would like. That’s why I send out a Christmas list to Jess, Colby, Denise, Pete and Vince. Never fails that Denise and now Jess get me things they think I’d like. Many times I wind up donating most of these things after about a year of not using them.

Tina – I agree with you about the Christmas decorations in the stores so early. I really wish we could have Thanksgiving more like the Canadians. There is so much between Halloween and Christmas that thanksgiving gets pushed out almost. Glad they found the person who hit and killed your friend. Those foods from all over sounds really interesting. Wish we had something like that
I try not to eat back my exercise calories. If I’m over by a bit, I figure I’m OK because I do have the exercise calories. I do find that if I don’t eat in the evening, I tend to lose. Only it’s not easy for me not to munch on something in the evening.

This has been a great weekend so far! On Friday night (Guam son's Saturday) we talked for 2 hours. He showed me a friend that hitched a ride with him to his mailbox, after work.
A leaf insect! He said when it opened its wings, it was huge, and when it flew, it was loud!
Then yesterday afternoon I video chatted with son in Cuba for 2 hours. We had also video chatted on the 27th (Monday) for an hour and a half. Can you say I have been in my happy place??!!! Gosh I miss those two kids! Today I will see if middle son wants to video chat so I can ask Athena about life.💖🤗. Technology has healed my family.
Today I need to organize the cool recipe book sister sent me. The recipes she wrote out for me weren't in any order. Then fill in my calendar. Do you guys remember the felt advent calendar I have? I know a couple of years I got photos of you ladies for it. Well since its just husband and I, I folded the pockets under and tacked it with a couple dots of hot glue, then just hot glued all the "ornaments" on it. I then just connected my regular December calender on it. It was tedious work to keep asking for updated photos of family. I put the paper bits that were numbered and told a nice Christmas story that were put in each pocket, those all are in my Christmas album of info, like all our past newsletters etc. For future generations.👍🏼 One year I decided to yank all the Christmas related photos from my childhood, and my husbands childhood and make a "Christmas album". Of course that just messed up my regular albums which annoyed husband.😂😁. Its fun though to sit with a cup of coffee, watch snow falling outside and parouse the photos. Like watching old home movies🤗.

I am making French toast and some maple sausage links for husband for dinner. I might just have a breakfast burrito.
