Good morning, 6 am in Arizona! Thank you for the welcome it feels good! I used to be on SparkPeople before it closed down and I’ve so missed the group I belonged to there. Just looking at some of the posts lately:
Lisa, yes, could you repost the link to what looks like a Myers Briggs site? I am an INFJ and was so glad when I learned that several years ago. It helped me to come to terms with some things about myself I’d been feeling frustrated about.
A few of you like to travel? Me too. I am actually a transplanted Canadian from Montreal, have lived in the UK, in Ireland and various places in Canada and now the US. I went home to Montreal/Toronto in October to see some friends and reconnect, get my “big city” fix—we live in a small town that calls itself a city but…. Plans for next year aren’t as ambitious as in years past because money is a bit tighter. We’re going to go on an Alaska cruise in July from Vancouver BC but apart from that we have to see how the budget goes. Money is something else I tend to be quite “live for today” about. Luckily my husband is a saver so together we’ve balanced seeing what we wanted to of the world with having a secure home life financially.
I have four grandchildren who, together with their mom (my only child) and dad live here in our small town. It’s why we live here, I convinced hubby to move here after he retired so I could enjoy being with them. I don’t have any other living family. If they didn’t live here we’d probably not be living here. How about y’all? Do you live in the same place you’ve always lived in?
Valerie
I have lived all over western Canada from Winnipeg westward!
And I have travelled quite a bit in Canada, US, Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, the UK (England, Scotland & Wales), the Netherlands, Germany, France, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and New Zealand.
I have been living in Australia for almost 15 years now, first in Victoria and in Tasmania for almost a decade!
My husband had a workplace accident which resulted in a severe brain injury in 2018, and limited our travels to Tasmania for the next 5 and a bit years with legal battles (and of course, COVID). Finally, this past October, we were able to travel to Canada to see my family for the first time in 6 years. Even though I'm struggling to catch up a bit now, I would not have missed that trip for the world!!!!!!

Balancing the check book: I depend on my Credit Union and for some reason never seem to agree. So, I figure they are smarter than me and just write down their balance. This time I was off by under $25+. I'll take that.
Recipes: Somehow my sister got my mom's recipes and my sister in law got my husband's mother's recipes. The only one I really miss is my husband's mother's gumbo. It was delicious but included a lot of sea food that is expensive. His mother made the best fried chicken on record but I do not have the patience to make it.
My husband will be 76 on Sunday, so I am hoping my son and his family will meet us on Saturday at his favorite Mexican restaurant. Frozen Margaritas and Texas Fahitas. A treat we seldom enjoy.

Otherwise you will be hungry and binge eat. Judging how much you are burning is not simple, but doable. I always ate back my exercise calories and lost 57 pounds.
Nowdays I am content to be overweight and believe it is better for older women. I don't weigh myself, or count my calories any more. I love it. I exercise every single day for at least 75 minutes, and eat very healthily. I drink too much alcohol. Oh well. Life's too short.

Yes ... depending on the amount of weight you've chosen as a goal to lose each week, MFP builds in the deficit.
I set myself up as sedentary and usually choose to lose 0.25 kg/week (about 0.5 lbs/week). MFP gives me a deficit of about 250 calories a day. If I were to chose to lose 0.5 kg/week (about 1 lb/week), MFP would give me a deficit of about 500 calories a day.
That's based on the common estimate that 1 lb is 3500 calories.
When I exercise, I burn more!
If I do some light exercise, I don't usually eat those calories back.
If I do some moderate exercise, I will eat about half those calories back.
If I do some long and strenuous exercise, I will usually eat most of those calories back.
That seems to have worked for me.

My jewelry tree is one of my treasured items most definitely! The trinkets my sons bought, they got at the Christmas school fair with their own money. It was the sweetest thing. All the religious icons are really special because they were important to them.

Rebecca,I take great satisfaction in balancing my checkbook. for me it is a puzzle to solve.
So true. Plus when husband buys with international companies, there's charges I don't know, or the exchange rate changed. With Amazon the things might be lumped together in one charge in the register but on the bank balance its in bits. Its most definitely a puzzle. Then there's husband "creative math skills" so I have to correct those. I keep track of what's cleared, and what's still outstanding. I actually enjoy it all. Just having the money we have to work round is a blessing. On the Oregon coast we struggled and grocery shopping was a not so fun activity of "I have $25 to spend, how many meals can I buy, keep a teenager happy, and an ailing husband ok".
Hugs!

Kylia the wait for prescriptions is crazy but becoming situation normal. I’ve always avoided the mail-order options for medicare part D, but am considering this year as the prescriptions might arrive faster direct from them than from a distribution center to our local pharmacy (one of two in town ;{ ). Soooo cold here at the moment. I am debating leaving the heat on overnight. We normally turn it off. Heat is so expensive right now, we limit the hours we run it.

My mothers jewelry tree was magnificent! It kind of saddens me that its packed away at my middle sisters lost forever. I should be lit every year, but not sure where it is. My eldest sister said she doesn't have it. I don't think she knew where alot of the jewelry came from though. She kind of scoured antique stores and thrift stores. My maternal grandmothers earrings on my tree were her "going to church" earrings so that's really special.

I have been back in Australia for less than a month, and have been struggling to keep up let alone catch up!
I must have thought I would be well rested and ready to go when I got back ... else why would I have scheduled so many things!!
We've had a number of beekeeping things going on, and I think I'm almost caught up there. We do need to do a hive check on Monday to see if our little colony is doing OK.
We've had a number of cycling things going on. Organising 2 events as well as doing other bits and pieces. One of those 2 events went 2 weekends ago. The other is going tomorrow. My house is full of supplies (all organised and tagged, I hope) to hand out to the volunteers. I can't do laundry or decorate the house right now because these take up all the floor space. We've also gone out cycling twice ... it was all we could fit in.
One last legal thing arrived which I've been working on in my spare time. Just tidying up loose ends.
I've prepared 3 garden beds for planting - lots of hacking with my mattock - and my husband has planted them. 3 more to go.
I've attended a work-funded SQL training course on the first 3 days this week.
I've fixed and put together the data for a resubmission of a report that was submitted while I was away at work, and have been trying to catch up on other things. Lots of meetings and webinars.
In terms of exercise, November hasn't been particularly good. I've resumed my usual walking, but nothing longer. I've resumed some stair climbing, but not really enough. I've worked in the garden and have cycled twice.
I have read some and coloured some to help me maintain my sanity.
Last Saturday was rainy, so I did a thorough vacuum of everything ... moving stuff out of the way, using the vacuum to dust and take cat fur off the curtains and everything. I also cleaned the bathroom and toilet room from top to bottom, and put away clothes and tidied the dressing room and sleeping room.
There were a couple medical appointments this month. My husband injured his right leg and foot just before our trip to Canada. I was keeping on top of it while we were away but wanted to get it checked when we got back because it was still swollen. Likely a bad sprain. And I had my first bone density check.
I need to get this weekend done, and then I will see where I am for Christmas!

I will get around to the summer photos, but right now, I'm going through the autumn in Canada photos.

BK had some sort of collection of canned goods so I took them to the soup kitchen today. After work needed to stop at the church to pick up my lector book and the donations from there. The backseat of my car was completely packed! Which is good. After the soup kitchen went and mailed out Christmas cards and then stopped at Lynette’s office to give her some coupons. I could have sworn I saw her car there when I went to the post office and I wasn’t there that long (there wasn’t even a line!) but she had left. Some family member was there so I just left the coupons on her desk. Boy, is her office a mess. Then went to Publix to get the farmer cheese for the pierogi
The soup kitchen I doing a fundraiser from Dewey’s Bakery so I was in the store today. Honestly if they weren’t doing this, I probably would have gone home, they had quite a few volunteers
Tracey – lovely plates and decorations. You are so talented!
Lisa – does Egg have a cat tree? By the window in the sunroom would be a great place for one.
M – so sorry about your grandchildren. It’s so hard, I know. Oh, I’m SOOO ready for summer. I know it isn’t even winter yet, but I’m still ready for summer. I’m jealous of your summer.
Going thru totes of our miscellaneous christmas ornaments. Got them down to 4 totes right now from 6. Jess needs ornaments and she’s going to get them! So is the Salvation Army. I really need to stop buying them.
Annie – (((BIG HUGS))))
Allie – great that you’re sending something to Carmine!
Barbara – I so look forward to your posts and sometimes find something that I totally missed. Thanks
Valerie – I was born and raised in NJ, then we moved to the Poconos in PA, then dh was transferred to southern PA, now I’m in NC. I love it here
Heather – great paintings. You are so imaginative
Carol – there isn’t room for us at Denise’s. I wish we could stay there, but there just isn’t room.
Rebecca – what a heartwarming present from your sister! You tree is absolutely gorgeous
I remember seeing the liquor filled chocolates at Sam’s
Debbie – safe travels
Carol – happy birthday to your hubby. Hope you do make the dinner
Went thru all the ornaments to give Jess some. At first Vince said “that box is probably too big”. Now he’s saying “I don’t think that box is going to be big enough”. I got us down from 6 totes to 3. Started to decorate the tree in the living room but need to get to bed so will probably finish it tomorrow. It’s supposed to be (operative words) rainy and if it is, then maybe I’ll start on the wrapping.

I found some well reviewed liqueur chocolates on Amazon for DH. They are coming today. Different kinds of Scotch whisky. Normally I only buy Monty Bojangles Choccy Scoffy, our absolute favourite dark choc, cocoa dusted truffles, but I thought a change would be good just for once!
No one has put up outside Christmas decorations around here yet, though I expect they will start this weekend, now that it's December. Of course, the shops are all lit up. I hate it all starting so early. I would think that the US 'holiday season' would drive me crazy.
I'm debating whether to put the tree up. If we do, it will only be for the grandchildren. Yesterday I got my fake red amaryllis out for the dining room and put the white fake flower arrangement I bought last year on the table. Quite enough winter festivity for me! I have LED candles in the fireplace. I do send cards, because I am curious how everyone is doing. This year it will be my own printed cards of my paintings of robins and a tree that I did last January. Gosh! I'd only been painting for just over a month, and was so excited that I had managed to produce anything!
Waitrose delivery after lunch. Tandoori chicken and roasted cauliflower for dinner. Brittany cider.

For finances, I just look at my two bank accounts online to check there are no fraudulent entries. And to see the balance. I do this a couple of times a week, maybe more. I always know exactly how much is in there and what is pending. All our bills are automated. Just the window cleaner and the cleaner are bank transfers.
I won £2.70 on the Euro lottery yesterday.

Yep. The bank takes care of it all.
Congrats on the winning. Occasionally I win a little bit in our lottery. Usually slightly more than it cost me to buy the ticket.

Kylia-that' strange about your pharmacy. I use CVS over here. Friends who use Walgreens haven't reported any issues. I hope it isn't something that is going to spread.
Rebecca and Barbie-count me among the check balancers. Yesterday was payday-will balance this am. Also pay any bills available.
Got Covid vaccine yesterday afternoon. Think I am up to date on everything but pharmacist got me thinking about Hepatitis A-that's something to consider for next year! So far no reaction to vaccine and I am past the 12 hour mark. Arm is slightly sore. I do have stuffy nose (had it yesterday). It was raining most of yesterday-lots of sinus pressure.
Plan for day is to go to annual Christmas breakfast a friend serves for us. Then will go to see baby Luna. I am taking some of the provisions for stay at hotel near them when Az kids arrive. I have some snacks, etc. so we won't have to mess so much with grocery store. And then finish the budget for meeting on Monday.
Take care all,

Good Saturday!
SIL with medical power of attorney....we had a long talk before I did that. In so many things we are alike. Others not so much. I definitely have a stronger work ethic and am more accepting of changes. I trust her to follow my wishes. In the personality tests we came up same letters, but percentage wise, she is more introvert and more judging. I don't see her as an adventurer, but she even took both tests.
Barbara You and I came up the same. Okay logistical ladies, it would be nice to see all our personalities in one place. It really is interesting. So many of them haven't been a surprise to me just from getting to know you here.
Rebecca I remember the Oregon days. I am happy that things are now much better. I am more than comfortable these days, but also know that should that change, I could sell 80-90% of DH's collectibles and live comfortably for many years
Valerie Alabama born. Georgia for my father to find work. Then Ohio. Moved lots after I turned 11 for father's work. Maryland, Alabama, Virginia. Got married. Texas, Philippines, back to Ohio. Got divorced, fell in love, still in Ohio I have traveled to Utah, California, east coast, and Florida. All were nice. Loved the Philippines. Consider the DC area home. Would love to retire to Tennesse though. DH hasn't lived further than 7 miles from his three houses since he was 4 and the first house he lived in was only about 30 miles away! He is a small town boy. In comparison, he has moved 4 times in his life. The last was across the drive from his parent's home when he was 19. I have moved 19 times until 1994! I would live to travel more but still work full time plus. And DH is not a traveler. I would like to see the NE and NW states. Road trip one of these days.
Annie ((HUGS))
Bank accounts- I have DH and rentals that have registers that I try to keep updated. Mine I just check regularly on line. I onlybwrite a handful of checks a year. Most things are automatic or online payments.
One thing I don't like about Christmas is the stuff! Our house already has to much stuff, then Christmas comes out! DH loves it all. I would be content with outside lights, the tree lite up, and a couple of other items. Nope.....tree full of ornaments, blow ups outside (just got a new one from SIL), lots of other Christmas bric-a-brac. I need to get going to put it all out. I fluffed the tree before catching up with y'all. It has only been up a week-hehe.
picture taken in man cave before putting outside.
Oh, got Frosty set back up last night too. He is just a little dirty from his travels.
Take DH hunting, then me to work, sone shopping on way to granddaughter's Christmas recital (not much as I am taking Miata). Decorating and dusting will take priority then hopefully finish up cards to mail on Monday or Tuesday.
Better get a move on.
Much love,
Kylia in Ohio

Weekend - Saturday
Got everything for the cycling event into the van - tables, water jugs full of water, food, and all sorts. It's all labelled and ready to hand out first thing tomorrow morning.
Set to work on the remaining garden beds. I had to pull out a lot of weeds first before I could dig up all the hidden roots. I have more to do, but it will wait till Monday. I have Monday off.
Helped my husband a bit with getting the Christmas stuff upstairs. He put up the tree, but the rest will come later this weekend.
Organised my seeds ready for planting sometime soon.
Watched Dirty Dancing.
And now I'm heading to bed.

Good morning ladies!
I tried posting at 2 am but now I can't find it. I'm not exactly running on full steam here. Forgive me if I repeat myself.
We officially signed up for hospice, and they are delivering a hospital bed today. It will destroy the decor. It might be the best time to pull up the rug, too. But it's a pretty rug so I'm hesitant. And I have no other place to put it, even rolled up. I have to be ready at nine.
I miss my sister so badly my belly was cramped all day yesterday. I'm afraid I can't do this without her. Especially managing my father who annoys me. Last night while I was upstairs he pushed all the furniture down here into a corner. It surprised me and I expressed more dismay than appreciation.
Well no matter what we do with the furniture, mom is likely to have her own ideas. And it's not permanent. So anything that leaves room for the bed is likely okay. She may be disappointed at the whole idea of a hospital bed. But even if she doesn't need it today, but needs it two weeks later, the day is coming when she can't climb the stairs. So I might be early, but I'm not wrong. Typing this out is really helpful for me. I love you ladies, you are so wonderful at listening to my slow explanations!
Have a great day my friends!

Sending love, Annie.
Have you contacted the cancer charities? My friend, who died a few years ago, got a lot of assistance from them. They can help you with accessing anything you are entitled to. In the UK, having cancer is a much better option than other diseases, because more help is available, and it is better funded.
My son just rang. The family, minus Max, who is coming back from Germany tonight, is going to a cycle race meeting near London tomorrow. Edie, Bea, and DDIL are entered, but Bea now says she doesn't want to do it because it will be below freezing. My son doesn't think it would be good for her to stand around for hours in the cold either, so he's asked us to have her from 7.30 am. She's only 7 yrs old, so I understand. We said yes, of course, though it means we won't get our exercises in. Max will be having a lie-in and doing homework, but he might stroll over later. I will provide simple lunch for all.
They will be picked up after lunch.
All good. It is absolutely freezing here. We are trying to minimise how much we have the boiler going, but it really is miserable.
Waitrose any minute.

Hi, I am trying to become part of the group "Women Ages 50+ For December", but I am not quite sure yet, how and where to post and how to answer a post. At the moment I am experiencing and am happy for any kind of support.
My name ist Svenja, in my younger years I was reasonably fit and not overweight. Unfortunately both changed over the years, partly also due to illness. Now I am a happy grandma and want to get fit enough to play soccer, roll on the floor with the kids and be able to get up from the floor without help :-). Is anyone here in a similar situation? It would be great, if we could share success and failure and support each other. I want to be a "fitte Oma" (German for fit grandma). - Svenja10 -
Annie ... take it one breath at a time ... hugs
Christmas Decorating ... my husband put up the outdoor decorations the day of the Lake Effect Snow. We're pretty simple out front ... a large wreath on the house with white lights and then a nativity scene in the alcove by the front door with a spot light. Out back... which I can see from the kitchen table ... we set up a blow mold Snowman. Never did that before, but we're leaving him on 24/7 and he's bringing me joy! Today, I'll put up the tree in the living room that can be seen from the street ... it's white lights too. Last night I set up the family room nativity. It uses colored lights and we used to have a tree in the family room with colored lights as well, but our current dog is not well behaved so, no family room tree. I have my mother's nativity ... all white .. and I set it up in the living room. Interesting that the donkey is proportionately over-sized compared to Mary and Joseph ... significantly so! I left him in the box. Must have been multiple sets at one time. To be honest, I've not felt like decorating much the last couple of years, but my mom will be with us for Christmas and she seems to enjoy it all.
Checkbook ... I now use an Excel spreadsheet and there are no math errors, but I still have to make certain that I've not missed any expenditures. I love seeing everything work out to the penny too, Rebecca!
Have a great day!

Welcome. I don’t have kids so therefore no grandkids. I’ve been on here for over 10 years now. I don’t need to be but I am just out of habit. All the ladies here can relate in one form or another. I don’t chit chat on here much so please don’t take offense. Just by posting you are part of the group. Keep coming back.
