Good morning ladies!

Rice Water shampoo question - have any of you tried the "Rice Water" shampoo bars and/or conditioners? Supposed to be the latest rage. I've read a lot of reviews by users online, most are glowing of course. Would like to hear an opinion by someone actually using it!

Kitty made it through the night and actually used her litter box, which I placed close to her bed. She eats a little pureed "kitty treat" and drank a tiny bit of milk. She's in pain. Hoping I can get her into the vet tomorrow morning.

Chicken report: Thelma's egg factory has been closed down for the past couple weeks. I think she is molting, but not losing feathers. I guess some breeds don't. Her egg factory needed a rest. Gladys and Fairy have slowed to every other day, wishing they'd take a month or more off as well.

Again, thanks to you posting your wedding photos. I have concluded I've never seen more beautiful brides or appropriate venues for weddings than I've seen here. Thank you for sharing your memories!

Enjoying a beautiful Sunday morning in our back yard with our puppy. She longs to go into the forbidden yard. We keep her out of it to preserve the lawn and veggies and to keep her farther from the sidewalk.

He likes to sail, but it's a bit difficult arranging it. He does sometimes go to the Marina, but it's not often.

Tomorrow is physio. I still find it difficult to walk up the stairs with both legs. It's more my knee than my hip. I guess I should try harder.
Otherwise, I am improving. I still wake up in pain in the night and morning, and get very stiff if I sit for long. I would love to take the stairs normally.

Flea - I saw the pics first, and missed your post, and I wasn't sure she was real! What a beautiful dog... a very sad one right at that moment, but really just wonderful markings.

Mo - What a lovely dress and as someone else said, you were lovely and glowing and your dad looked like he was having a really good time.

Rori - Those images are just beyond romantic, you were and are so very beautiful. You always wear your heart in your face anyway, and it really shows in your wedding photos. Couldn't look away. And thank you for the compliment re: the pumpkins. I'll send an email later after I see how things shake out.

Heather - I look forward to seeing the cabinet in situ! Love Edie's toucan, and the tiles, too. How did your mending of her blanket go over?

Rita - Barbie's got the right of it (no surprise) on stress. Finding another coping tool is really important, and one that doesn't involve food, alcohol or drugs is just incredibly key to maintaining the amazing strides you've made in turning your kidney and other numbers around. Depression is both a thief and a liar.

Annie - Well done on the bike! Proud of you!

Kylia - So glad you're enjoying your time away. Hope Dollywood is tons of fun. I have so much respect for Dolly Parton and the good she does--one of the few celebrities I just really admire.

Margaret - Quilts like that just make my heart so happy. 🧵🪡 They make me itch to start designing the next one, too! 😂

Barbara and Ginny - Hope your dental work is healing quickly and as painfree as possible.

Carol - Thank you so much for the compliments on the items I'm making. I'm having way too much fun still! 🤣

Speaking of which, I just got my early Christmas present today - we picked up a serger while we were out and about. I've got it out of the box, and now it's time to figure out how to use it! I'm branching out from the cottons that I've used all these years into other fabrics, and it's time to do it right.

Carol The eight hour window might be too hard to start. Could he try a 12/12? then 10/14? I do a 12/12 to 10/14 window. I find it works well for me. What I learned about fasting it is important to stop eating 3-5 hours (water is okay as long as it doesn't cause you to have to get up to use the bathroom) before bed to give your body time to repair and rejuvenate. When you eat too close to bedtime your body is forced to work on digestion. So I think he has the right idea it just might help to readjust his timing and and length to find what works. Same for you. It might make it hard to eat meals together. Perhaps you could just agree on one meal and both of you adjust your eating times.

Lisa - She was thrilled with my repair, and found it hard to find the join. I had missed one tiny corner rip, so sewed that up while she and John were painting. I warned her not to use it as a bedcover.
So hard to stop her fine tuning her toucan. She was still touching up when her father came to collect her. He wouldn't let her take it home in her mum's new car, because of wet paint.He had just bought a second hand car to replace the one that broke down on Thursday night. They need a big workhorse because of all the bikes they have to transport.
Yesterday, Edie was out for a long road ride with various parents and friends when she hit a pot hole. She came off, brought down her friend and suffered various cuts and bruises. More importantly, her very expensive helmet, which she had as a birthday present last year, was smashed up. A big chunk came out of it! Saved her life and certainly her brain. Wow! They had to wait a while for a parent with a big enough car to come and pick them up.
Makes me shiver to think about it.

Stress. I always remember the Serenity prayer. Sometimes, we can cure the cause of the stress and sometimes we can't. We have much more choice than we believe. Some stresses can't be cured, but must be endured. Others are changeable, if we have the courage. Just putting up with things isn't the answer. We are the captains of our ship.

Heather - what kind of exercises/movements are you doing at physical therapy? I see a lot of hip exercises I probably should add to my routine. I stopped the sit-to-stands for a while because of my sciatica and I just did ten. Kinda tough. Wow, so glad Edie had that helmet. Bea is a great little painter - I liked those tiles a lot too.

Barbie - happy to hear the weekend is going well. Nice to visit when people are relaxed at home and not in a hospital, that's for sure.

Rori - I think your relationship with N is just perfect. Short happy times together, and he's not underfoot so you still have your independence. Does he have a brother? Your trip to Thailand sounds great, glad it's coming together for you.

Allie - good job on the weight loss. Yes, whatever you're doing is working and that's what's important. When is your cruise? And how is Dan's dad doing?

Flea - is your beautiful puppy a Bernese Mountain Dog? Love his markings.

Lisa - you are a pumpkin making wizard, those are so so cute. Have fun with your serger!

Carol - lots of good suggestions for your DH's eating - of course, getting him to follow any of them might be a feat, lol.

Interesting how cooking evolves in a marriage. My DH ended up fixing all of his own meals because all he wanted was easy highly processed food. Hot dogs, french fries, chicken strips. A lady down the street's husband has T2 diabetes, and for years she prepared a huge healthy breakfast - eggs, toast, fruit. Then lunch on their own then a nice dinner four nights a week. After his T2 diagnosis, he told her to quit making the big breakfast, and wanted to do his own thing. The last I knew she was still making good dinners and would have the left-overs for her lunch the next day. She said he liked to eat high-carb foods, but evidently adjusts his insulin. That works for them.

It would be hard for me to be strict about my eating if there was another person in this house, especially one that liked sweets and junk food.

Lanette my cruise is mid October,Rich is home but he has a couple friends up at the nursing home that he has been going to visit.his health hasn't been great and he had some type of infection ,both kids and drs told him,he needs to stay away from the nursing home for his healths sake.Espescially with the new grandbaby coming.

I had a great talk with my neighbor. She told me the story of going out to eat with one of her professors from over thirty years ago The were in a space to have their class when a person wanted to cut through to get to another place in the building to safe them time. He told the person NO! the person tried to explain it was much faster to cut through this space and wouldn't take much. He said No again because it was disruptive to his class. The lesson my neighbor learned is it's okay to say NO and to have that person respect that NO. There are people who have trouble respecting boundaries. I am still learning to set boundaries and to stick to them.

What I have to work on is to pace myself and plan better so that I am on time when needed. I was proud of myself for making it to church by 8:15 today! It helped that I found the outfit and had it out the night before.

My puppy is a miniature Australian Shepherd. She weighs about 20 pounds. But her markings are very much like the Burmese Mountain Dog. I think of that every time Rebecca share's a picture of her sister's dog. They really do look very similar, just my pup is teeny tiny, in comparison. We have a very small yard, so we didn't want anything too big. The forbidden yard is just the right size for her to really get up to speed and run circles. That's also the yard she plays in the sprinkler, another one of her favorite activities. She's a sweetie, but she is very territorial and possessive. She would be happiest if there were no other animals or human beings in the world except for those in our house.

Heather you are inspiring Johnny as well as me! Brava! What are the dimensions of the toucan canvas? the tiles and that Edie wants them. Perhaps they could be mounted in a frame and so portable, not permanently installed? So thankful fhat helmet saved Edie! Yikes!!!
Carol thanks. I’ve figured out that if I take the ibuprofen every four hours, it’s manageable. BUT if I try to stretch it out to six or more hours it’s miserable and seems to take forever to abate. Consistency is not one of my virtues but the universe keeps trying. . . Have no magic wand to wave. If Joe thinks I’m nagging and is not listening to me, my only recourse is to call his brother and ask him to suggest the one or two most important things. Sometimes he’s more likely to listen to any respected male than to his intelligent, well-informed wife who has his best interests at heart ;{

On the subject of boundaries. Yesterday when Jake's son and his girlfriend arrived, I told them that I don't hug. I felt so much better having done so. We had a great visit and my setting boundaries didn't cause a problem. Jake and I had already decided to stay away from hot button topics (like the upcoming presidential election) to avoid any uncomfortable conversations. It was a smart decision.

Taken by the trail cam we set up at the cabin. This was around 130ish today while we were in town. Apparently this is momma bear. She has triplets. It is belived that she is nested beside the cabin behind us.

I got over 11k steps and 4 miles in today! Yay! The most steps all year!

Eating....on vacation is easiest. We usually have something light like eggs and toast around 10ish. Then eat out around 4ish. Then I am good for rest of night. Work interferes at home. DH has oatmeal around 830, salad (lettuce and cheese) around 1, then wants dinner when we get home around 630ish. I am hungry between 11-4. I tend to eat more veggies at dinner when home. DH snacks all freaking evening! I find two things about junk food...1) if I eat real food I seldom want junk 2) if it isn't available I WANT it! Good thing that is seldom the issue at home or on vacay.

DH and I needed to turn trailer around to be able to reload miata when time to head home. We managed it this morning with lots of patience and laughter and not a cross word! Success!

Annie - I must have missed the earbuds and how you got them to work, I see Barbara mentioned it as she’s never found any to tolerate. I haven’t either. I would love to know the secret.

Barbara - I hope you heal fast. It sounds like Joe has been helpful.

Heather - I love the look of bare for about a week and then I find everything too sterile. I have tried over and over in my life to do it but can’t. I have given up. 😂 I applaud those that can.

Lisa - I had some clothes like that that I got rid of a few weeks ago. They just didn’t sit right.

I know I’ve mentioned Linda before, I loved her so much, anyway she was married to her second husband who was awful when I met the family in grade 6. They split when I was in grade 9, she passed in 1996, but in 94 or 95 I’m sure it was him that bought her a serger for Christmas about this time of year.
She made Tickle Trunks for the girls and her granddaughter (my Goddaughter) for Christmas that year. They still talk about it. For those that don’t know, when you gals were getting Captain Kangaroo, we had Mr. Dressup, he had a “tickle trunk”. It was all costumes and such.
She made them wedding dresses out of thrifted sheers, the veils were lace curtains stitched onto satin headbands she made. They had evening gowns and 60’s go-go style outfits. Bangles, and jewels all in their own little trunk.
It was an incredible gift and your serger reminded me of her happiness of what she could do with that serger.

I always wanted to renew our vows and have a huge wedding, with reception, dance and everyone we loved there but now I just want a dress up party and dance.

We are currently experiencing 30C weather. It is 10pm and I am sitting outside in a tank top and shorts. It is beautiful. Unfortunately, there is smoke in the air from a fire somewhere though.

Carol - I found that since I have had to discard so much out over the last few years I am more intentional in my purchases.

Rita - sounds like your Mom is going to be treated, that just ease your mind a bit.

Rebecca - so happy for your your son will be home. How can Eli be 1 already?
When we went to the dietitian to see what to do for Rodger’s sugars she told him not to restrict anything. Eat like he normally did in smaller portions.
I have a gift certificate for a pedicure from work. I may do that this week coming.

Allie - Congrats on the loss.

Pip - looks like a nice little trip.

Rori - Your wedding looked beautiful.
That will be fun to have someone along on the trip.

I really dislike driving with DH. He lets everyone else’s driving get him so upset. It just ruins the whole drive. I would prefer to drive and listen to him complain about the people around than him having the wheel and pedal control. Since he’s had his truck though I never get if we go anywhere together.

Heather - the school I did my first practicum in had a young autistic student that could do a 1000 piece puzzle in two-three days. You could try a school too for donating. I know we have lots of puzzles donated at the manor and they are appreciated too.
Edie has talent, like her Grandma. So thankful she was wearing her helmet.

Kylia - I am so incredibly envious of your vacation. I hope you are enjoying every minute.

Monique - you and your Dad’s look so happy.

Rita - Stress did so much damage to my weight and health over the last few years. I’m still trying to recover from it I think.

Barbie - I’m glad you were able to have a nice visit.
Like you, I make one meal a day, supper for us I make sure there are other things for each of us in the groceries as well.
I like the idea of a 911 playlist. I’m going to give that some thought.

Lanette - I so agree about all of the wedding photos. It has been so much fun looking through them.

Flea - Your dog is pretty. I thought of a Burmese Mountain dog too.

We kept Jeb last night. It will be his last time here for some time as his Mom is moving to BC for the Winter. I will miss them both.

We tried a new technique yesterday at the scrapbooking crop. This was the most hilarious speech at their wedding. I thought the leaves I used was appropriate since the bride and the speaker stole so much of Rodger’s as teens and told him about it on her wedding day. 😂



I shortened and hung my new curtains today. I decided to just hem them by hand, it would have taken more work for me to dig the sewing machine out. It was my friends and I don’t know if it works well or not so didn’t want to be frustrated.


Rodger made some more pens this weekend.


I bought stuff for my lunches this week and for my favourite snack in the evening. I finally found some good grapes.

I should head to bed.

The scrapbook pages are fabulous. Great idea! It feels as if we are watching a film.

Machka - The autumn colours at Paris this year were all sludgy. Burgundy, maroon, coffee, chocolate, olive green, khaki. They do absolutely nothing for me! When I wear my hat, I make sure the bright pink circle is to the front. I would think the sludge would look horrible in the Australian summer sunshine! I always wear bright jewel colours, or white, in the sun. Or black and white.

Must get ready for my physio!
