Couldn't sleep this morning, so I decided to write, and got well over 400 words under my belt. I need to do some more research before I can carry on. I'm now back on the early Earth.
Tracey - My heart goes out to you. Our nuclear family arrangements can make life very difficult. It's only in recent history we were confined in space with one other person. When we reach different stages in our lives, there is a divergence of our journeys. John retired at 59, and I did at 55. We were both on the same page, and excited about our future adventures together. You have a lot of growing and exploring to do, but you can't take people with you. I think for many men, they just want to slow down. And so many wives are frustrated. We need a tribe.
Off to make our morning cuppa.

Busy! Busy! Busy! My activity groups are back up and running after the summer break.
Heather: Yay! For reaching the beach.
Lisa: 🥰‘Remember the Desiderata’

Good morning, my chickens,
Slept late for me, if not well, and we are once again back to the lovely, cool mornings. Got every window I can reach open and it's just lovely.
Tracey - I really do wish I had good advice on the financial thing and husbands. Just the usual story, which you can take or leave as advice:I handed over the finances to each of my husbands at some point because I started making massive mistakes due to my own stresses being barely under control at work. Both times, they screwed it up inside of six weeks. Deliberately? I don't know. I have tremendous respect for Corey's intellect, and he's not ordinarily passive aggressive, so probably not. He's just not interested, and so doesn't pay enough attention. He doesn't think ahead, and does things I would never do. Like paying a bill late, which becomes a cascading set of fees and penalties, and dings on your credit report.
I also start braking my car as much as a block or more before a stop light, which doesn't sound like the same thing, but it really is.
My main stress today is fighting with the washer -About every other load now, it stalls out with the tub full of water. However, about four or five tries later of rebooting (so to speak) by unplugging and then convincing it with the occasional surreptitious kick and a few cuss words, I can get it to complete a cycle, if not always the cycle it started with. I know it needs replacing, but it's such a PITA that I don't even want to try. That would be because I would have to make decisions about how much to spend, what kind to get, if I care whether it matches the dryer (I don't, so that one's easy), which one will work best with our septic and on and on.... The thought just crossed my mind that, unlike my stove, at least it can't access the internet and read this. 👀 Thank goodness! 😂
And that sent me off to check on our budget, and yeah, $500+ for a washer just wasn't something I wanted to do this year. However, it IS nine years old, and I do use equipment right up to the edge of its limitations. Always. Ask my new serger. 😹
And, the only other news is that I've pretty much moved my whole day into my craft room now. I've been working and playing on a laptop for years--why do I forget that it moves? 🤪. That's the point. OK, off to tussle with the washer. Fingers crossed! It's always a surprise, opening that lid.

Good morning beautiful ladies!
I was so sick yesterday. I had three vaccines on Sunday so I rather expected something, but it hit me hard. My streak for MFP was almost 2000 days, and it reset to 1. It doesn't mean that much, so I'm trying to forget it. I already feel better, so that's good.
May you all have a great day! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!
Annie in Delaware5 -
I got furnace yearly check off the list yesterday...Weather is getting a bit cooler. Still had a gorgeous day. Over the past weekend the last dip in my friend's pool on Saturday and then went to a classical concert with another friend that night. I enjoyed singing the anthem on Sunday.
I might be at my new set point. I have been 155-157 for the past month. This seems to be a good weight for me. I feel good and my clothes fit better. Fall is not a season I typically do not lose weight. I just want to maintain it for now.
I will continue to eat as little sugar, salt, wheat, soy, and corn that I can. When it does sneak in I notice my nose runs and I have more bloating and water weight. Everyone is different and has to find the diet that works for them.4 -

Sue in WA State -lost about 1/2 pound this past week. Missed chair yoga due to cardiology appointment but otherwise consistent with exercise. Did not keep up my water intake so will continue to work on that. Want to be more consistent with water and continue to not eat after dinner. Will work on making breakfast higher in protein.
Lanette SW WA State – weight staying in range. Exercise and walking fell behind due to bad cold this week. The doctor’s office said “rest and drink fluids” and it was easy to follow this advice.
I remembered to weigh, I remembered to write you to tell you what it was BUT I guess I forgot to hit send- Oh well- up a pound. No aqua or laps this past week. This Friday will be our last class. I will miss it but I am ok with not having three classes a week(along with 4-5 or more days walking the dog and 2 days walking the wetlands)
I forgot to send it to you too. Too much on my mind. Up 1 pound this week. I suppose it’s stress and water as I haven’t changed or added anything to my diet. Less walking too. Just not up to it. I’ll get back to it once this stress eases up and the depression about not being able to do anything about the stressors lifts. Soon… I promise myself and you! RVRita6 -
@Tracy I take care of all the bills and my DH has the same attitudes. I’m trying really hard to fix my finances but it is HARD! Especially with all the inflation!
DH to doc today and I need to call mom. I get depressed when I call her, but feel worse if I don’t. I just need to see how she is doing.
I’ve stopped my pre-breakfast walk the last 2 weeks due to cold/allergies/stressors. I know walking helps with the stressors, just have to force myself to do it when I wake up instead of going back to sleep! Therapist next week. Thursday, kidney doc then dentist on same day. Just can’t wait until this week is over!!

Dinner yesterday was what DH calls Lazy Man Chicken: chicken and potatoes roasted in the same pan. (Sometimes he adds things like onions or sweet potatoes or some other veggie, but not today) Kevin string bean salad with pickled beets and a Halo orange for dessert.

Lanette ...my mom takes two low dose medications that help with the symptoms of dementia but are not intended to slow it's course (like some Alzheimer medications). One is an atypical use of an anti-depressant to help with her appetite and the other is to prevent sundowners. She has never been officially diagnosed with Alzheimers, but her behaviors are consistent with such a diagnosis. One physician told me that 90% of dementia patients are most likely dealing with Alzheimers. Guess it really doesn't matter what you call it when you're 93.
Lisa ... I have two washing machines at the moment (well actually there's a 3rd from my son's apartment on hand too). Both of my machines are hooked up. The newer one is an agitator-less Maytag and I hate it, rarely use it. The second machine is a Maytag from the 80s we bought at a garage sale (has a function to save/reuse the rinse water which I don't use ... yuck). It is a workhorse!! Good luck finding a new one.
Visited with my mom yesterday and Covid is making the rounds of her facility. Sigh. She has a very bad cold at the moment, but PCR tests are coming back negative for Covid, RSV and Influenza.
Made an Upside-down Apple Cake yesterday ... we didn't like it.

Annie - we missed you. Sounds like you are feeling better, thank goodness. Hope you are back to normal soon. Good that you got the vaccines out of the way before your trip. I remember when I was too busy to post for a few days, I lost my streak too.
Lisa - sorry about your temperamental washer. Did you look on YouTube to see if there's a simple fix? Maybe that's where you found out that unplugging it could help.
Margaret - I've been stuck at around 158 for a month now, eating similarly as you. As long as my clothes fit and I feel good, I have no desire to lose any more weight. I decided a while back the state of my health isn't determined by a number on the scale. Wish I'd have believed this when I was younger.
Tracey - just about the only time DH and I argued during our marriage was about finances. I was the money manager and generally the higher wage earner. DH was the spender and several times got us into financial hot water with his credit card craziness. Hope Rodger senses the importance of getting some $$ ahead with the holidays coming and decides to sign up for some work this winter.
I had a surprise this morning... lost my sense of smell! I realized I couldn't smell Vicks Vapo Rub. So I sliced up a clove of garlic. Couldn't smell THAT, which is just exactly how it happened 2 years ago. I messaged the doc's office to see how long I'll be contagious. Funny thing is, it seems we are contagious for this and most respiratory viruses a day or two before we even show symptoms. So I've probably already done my job as Covid Mary.
And now I'll have antibodies and aggressive T-Cell immunity well into the winter. That's a win.
I'm feeling fine, the only symptom I have this morning is the usual allergy stuffiness. I messaged Collette and told her if she wanted to reschedule, it's fine. All I really need is to have the carpeting vacuumed to get the dust and dirt removed since that job is hard on my back. I just wiped down the counters with Anti-Viral spray cleaner. She said she'll come this morning (I think she really needs the money.)

Hi Gals,
So your discussions of spending and husbands triggered a memory of finances at my childhood home.
My Dad had a good job and was the bread winner, Mom was a stay-at-home mom, who stretched money by scratch cooking, making our clothes, and always having a big garden which we canned, dried, and froze stuff for later in the year. Mom did the bill paying, and everything to do with the checkbook, including putting money into both short term and long-term savings. Dad found and dealt with insurances (home, car, life – heath insurance was provided by his employer) taxes, and investing the long term savings. On Sunday after church but before we left the parking lot (NO idea why this was) Mom handed out cash for the week. The kids got allowance based on how we had done on getting our chores done. Dad told her about what he needed money for – lunches, how many tanks of gas, etc.. and he got his cash -once in a while mom would tell him there was not that much available…that was always a bit weird. Credit cards and the checkbook where in the desk and if you need money during the week then a discussion was had and maybe the check book came out – and that was the same for all of us.
I wonder if a cash only diet would help any of your DH’s from spending over the budget…. It’s a different world with online shopping – but the discussion part might help.
Still crazy busy with work some friends and I are doing a craft fair this weekend – more work! Keeping my fingers crossed with health care the issues have not been resolved but I can sign up (AND WILL) again in open enrollment and hopefully have Medicare again in January. Of course I am still paying each month in hopes that someone in the government suddenly has an ah-ha moment and fixes everything. If the bills that did not get paid are my responsibility or not is still up in the air. My mom is slowing down and has started to give things that are in the trust to be given out after death to the person she had listed. So that is weird, but it is less work for me after her death. A couple of weeks ago she started telling folks she would die in 2 weeks…. But that has a moving start date, so that is also very strange. But I just let her live in her own delusions as much as possible, they are weird but mostly harmless.
Thinking of you all,
Kim in N. California
PS someone asked about poisonous plants….. This is not a comprehensive list at all just the ones I happen to know Azaleas, Rhododendrons, Oleander(VERY poisonous), pyracantha berries, poinsettias, and peace lilies4 -
Tracey - Forgot to say thanks for the images. I really appreciated the look at your daughter's wallet. That's exactly the kind of thing I like using as a jumping-off place to design something that's buildable and sellabale. Thank you!
Beth - Why don't you like the Maytag? I'm contemplating impeller-type (agitator-less) but I tend to be dubious.
Lanette - Sorry about the covid - hope you're already past contagion, and that your sense of smell comes back soon.
Woodworking this morning, got panels cut, finished and drilled to add some storage to my big working desk for the extra frames that I get at thrift stores, etc., and use for my paintings. Now it's just installing them. I'll take a pic.

Lisa--The bag is beautiful and very well made.
Rebecca--Sounds like the visit with your son is going well and lots of memories to help pass the next couple years.
Mo--I looked up your husbands vlog after Lanette talked about it. Looks like something I would enjoy each day. Thank you to both of you for sharing.
Rita--Sending hugs and prayers.
Tracey--I so understand. My DH doesn't want to even look at the things we pay each month and he thinks he just puts it on a credit card and thinks it goes who knows where. I want to get out of debt so we can retire debt free. Talking does only seem to help for a short time.
Beth and Lisa--The washer before we bought this new set last fall had the agitator-less and I just felt the clothes never got clean. So I made sure when we got this set it has an agitator. It did hold larger loads, but just never felt they were clean.
Had my appointment yesterday for my yearly pap. Glad that is done, then met with the doctor that is going to do my colonoscopy and planning for Nov 1st. Next week I go to the eye doctor, Derm doctors. I may get caught up soon.

Michele ~ Your new Disney piece is cutes as are all the other you have created. Makes me wonder where you put them all. I just can't imagine.
Lisa ~ We have a Maytag stove and the largest burner went bad during the first year. It would have cost almost as much as a new stove to repair. We have Whirlpool washer and dryer that are way too big for what we need, but, they sure do get the job done. Must say there are a lot of dings and whistles on the set. I love my Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator even though we did have to have the ice make serviced.
My husband and I kind of split the expenses. I pay the utilities, household repairs, a lot of the food, and Amazon orders etc. He pays the insurance and taxes. It works out about even even though my retirement income has been more than his. We do not use credit cards.
Kim ~ Good luck at your craft fair.
My decluttering has slowed down and I am replacing it with cleaning my house which has not been cleaned since we kept the son's dogs in June. You can imagine the dust, cob webs, and grime. I am giving myself one task a day and will eventually get things in better shape. I really wish I could replace all the blinds because I know they are filthy as are the window but hope that will get done at some points. This house is over 35 yrs old and has accumulated a lot of projects.

Vicki - Thank you, and thank you for your opinion on the impeller. I just haven't been able to believe it could get clothes as clean, and Corey gets so filthy that I need all the help we can get.
Carol - Thank you for your opinions on your appliance brands, too. It's greatly appreciated.
So, a bit of woodworking proved I need to get back to the yoga... getting up and down from the floor to screw in these panels under my desk was no fun at all...
My big desk was built during my last work at home years - I designed it, and Corey built both the big desk and a shorter, narrower one that we use in the dining area as a counter. The big one moved over to crafting very easily, as it's12 feet long, and 32 inches deep.
When I straightened out the craft room a couple years ago, I used all that space underneath to stash all 15 file boxes of my crafts and fabric, but have slowly whittled that down to just eight boxes. In the meantime, my thrift store frames and unused canvas lived under my art table. However, the frames are so heavy, they'd push the table a foot or so and fall down any time you wiggled the table at all. This is what it looked like:
And I had this kind of space open under my big desk, but no way to keep them from sliding around:
So... I added a panel to contain all that, and this is how it ended up:
Hard to tell in the pics, but the panels are inset from the front, plus the depth of the size of the desk is 32" to begin with, so there's plenty of room for legs for me to work there. I'm really pleased with how it came out.
And, I can work at my art table again, as well!
Busy morning... hope yours was good...
Later,
Love,

Today was supposed to be gym and donating blood but it wasn't. When I stood up from the couch after sipping my morning coffee, my left leg cramped up like I had a Charlie horse it! Crazy how things happen. Pinched a nerve or something! Well limping from the car to the gym I decided to stretch out my muscles in the sauna. It slowly felt better, at least no pain just really sore and achy muscles behind my knee and down my calf and tendon. Was supposed to donate blood but went to the wrong place. It's 3 days this week at different places. This place today seemed to be geared mostly for the active duty, being more near the squadron areas. Tomorrow its in a building I have been to, but husband has a dermatology appt. Thursday hopefully I can locate the right building.🙄😁. When I got home I rubbed some pain reliever on it, got into bed putting my heating blanket on high. It felt better!
Scam calls were frequent today. Like they go thru a rotation of sorts. My husband......😂. Them: are you experiencing any pain right now? (they say they're calling from a pain center). Husband: yes I have pain. Pain in my @$$ from you people calling me! Them *click*.
Well my son here rented a Uhaul pickup truck from the Uhaul place here. It was like $500 for the weeks he's been here. Instead of paying like $900 for a rental car. Driving the 10 to work and back home, he hasn't used much gas, so that will not be too much of an expense.
Today's dinner will be salad, green beans and bacon, scalloped potatoes, cheesy bread and sweet Thai breaded pork chops. Easy peasy.
I will have a small bite or two of everything, but not really much. I just had a turkey and cheese sandwich.

On debt ... I have occasionally had a small debt, but I have made a point of paying it off as quickly as possible ... even if it meant working 2 or more jobs. I have never liked the idea of paying interest ... that's just handing the banks my money!
I'd much rather spend the money on things I enjoy rather than giving my money to banks who already have lots of money.

my dh pays all the bills and is good at it BUT he is such a spender. I know he spends a WHOLE lot more than I am aware of but he knows how much money is in the bank.
When we first got married, I took care of all the bills, like I did when I was married the first time but at some point, dh took over. He has most on auto pay so I don't even know what goes out each month.
He keeps saying he wants to totally quit working- he retired at 52 so too early to pull any regular retirement- he has a year and 2 months before he can start getting SS. I want him to keep working part time until then- at most, he is working two shifts a week- one 8 hr and one 4 . The past two weeks he hasn't even been on the schedule at all.
I was hoping that since I just started getting my SS in May that we could start getting more money in the savings but with them not giving him regular hours and he doesn't like the way they are treating him, he wants to just quit completely.
I totally understand that last statement- Cats are VERY expensive, especially lately.
He just ordered a catio for the two stray cats that we paid to have fixed- he doesn't want them wandering anymore- We are also planning on adding an addition to the original catio(actually, it will be a second addition to it).
