Today’s dance class was the first time in weeks I was able to dance the whole ltime. Thankful the rib pain has eased and the stamina is returning after the summer cold from heck. Felt GOOD!

Debbie, I’d be very very uncomfortable not knowing how much we as a couple had in the bank, or what the bills are. Do you suspect his spending has put you in debt?

Vicki and Tracy ((hugs)) it must be so frustrating, and scary, to have the responsibility of paying the bills but not the control of DHs’ spending (or in Rodgers case deciding whether or not to work.) ((hugs)). I’d resent the $$ being burned up too. IMHO if he insists on smoking, he must work to pay for it, but I realize that might not work for you. If you do write it out, can you keep it to three bullet points? That seems to be the male maximum. For example:
    Monthly outgo: $XXXX.
Monthly income with Tracey working and Rodger on EI $XXX difference =short fall
Monthly income with both working. $XXXX difference =to the good.
Good luck, I’m rooting for you both!

No, I know we are not in debt- no housepayment(paid that off 2 yrs before he retired along with the car payment we had at the time). He talks about how much is each account(have accounts at different banks)
He hasn't worked the past two weeks but he is still getting his pension, I am working part time and getting a small amount for SS(mine is low because I worked for myself most of my working years-just worked at preschools three different times). I do need to have him write all the accounts(payable and receivable) so I know what is coming in and going out. With his health and state of mind- it is something I need to know sooner, rather than later- he just tells me, everything is in the blue folder in his filing cabinet.

We are camping, so fajitas or pasta tonight, I picked pasta w/chicken (shredded). Yesterday was chicken nachos, day before that was club sandwiches, befor that was sausage gravy and biscuits, his gravy is made from scratch, he makes the biscuits. We have pretty good camping food. Last day will be tuna sandwiches so he doesn’t have to cook anything.

Sue - Anxiety is completely understandable, no apology necessary.

    Debbie -
Same as Pip, chicken and cold pasta salad that I make myself - fried chicken from the grocery store deli, which doesn't sound good, but we heat it up in the air fryer, which gets most of the oil off and makes it super crunchy. We won't actually deep fry anything, so fried chicken is a special treat. Eating it with a chilled pasta salad with garden rotini with asiago Caesar dressing, light mayo, pine nuts, green olives, black olives, capers, caper brine, crumbled feta, cubed Swiss and anything else I could think to throw in there.

Had to talk to the VA - the hospital where I go for my gastroenterology referral here is completely shutting down its gastro department. Very frustrating, as I'm literally in the middle of this one-year prescription to Skyrizi. So... I had to talk to the VA Community Care folks to get me switched over, and they were actually very kind, very helpful and quite efficient at swapping me to my old GI doc, who left that hospital six months ago to go into private practice. Should be hearing from them for an appointment reasonably soon. Pleasant surprise.

Hope it's been a good day for you,
    Love y'all,
    Lisa in AR

I do the same thing with the fried chicken for the exact same reason- I used to not like Church's fried chicken but dh loved it- then I tried reheating it in the air fryer- Such a huge difference. It renders that layer of fat below the skin out, the excess oil from frying also drips out of it- so much crispier than when we first get it. I did eat one wing yesterday when we were at MIL's just because I had to eat something(hadn't eaten a thing all day, was 5pm, and I needed to eat and get to class). was ok but not as good as reheating it in the air fryer.

Glad you got your issue with dr fixed so quickly.

Last night out of 4 people on two teams (each team has 2 bowlers), I was the only person there, the other three weren’t. So I was there only about an hour. Came home and started to get my sourdough reactivated. We haven’t had sourdough in a while so I’ll make some

Barbara – at least it isn’t just me who doesn’t have foods put into the “recent” list. Glad to know that I’m not going crazy (at least about this). You know something? About that bad boss (if that’s what you want to call her). Seems the two times I’ve seen her she’s actually been working. Maybe she learned her lesson at the other BK that she was fired from. Guess we shall see what happens in the future. She did talk today about how she wanted to move closer. Guess I just have to live with it. Good thing I only work 3-4 hours so don’t have much interaction. I’m still planning to give them my apology cookie (apologizing for them having to put up with me for the last 3 years) and I’ll text the store mgr and asst mgr telling them to be sure to have a piece. Yesterday she told me “I was a manager here” and I just thought to myself “yea, an hourly manager”. She told me she left Hardees because they paid her what I’m getting paid at BK. No way! When she first left she told me that Hardees paid $1 an hour more. Give me a break!

For those who have detergent left on their clothes after washing. Do you use the powder detergent? Maybe that wouldn’t happen if you were to use the liquid.

Made two batches of the tofu brownies. One just in case we go to see A (the lady Vince helped) tomorrow. I’ll take some to this one gal at BK and the rest I’ll freeze for us.

Annie – I’m sure someone on here will have a suggestion for you about your dad putting up the flag. Alas, it isn’t me.

Deb – we’re having pork tenderloin for dinner tonight

Just finished one of the towel toppers, just have to put the button on. Going to start on another one. Lots of fun to do when the kittens are around….lol Just finished my walk around the neighborhood. Yes, it’s raining but I took an umbrella with me. Update: got the second one done while they were napping. Just like a kid.....

Sue – so sorry about your sister. I agree with Carol – wondering…..

Vince would love if I got KFC. Maybe I’ll get some and try it in the air fryer. I have an air fryer lid for my IP.

Put a loaf of sourdough bread in the oven to rise. I'll probably bake it after work tomorrow. Lisa - what do you do to your bread when you're letting rise so that Egg doesn't play with it? I have my bread in the oven to rise (oven isn't on, just have it in there so no one "gets" to it)

Michele - I have a proofing container that looks like this with a lid. I have a "proofing" setting on my oven that keeps it steady at 95 degrees, as well. I just oil the container before I put the bread in. I like it, because it's very easy to see if the bread dough has actually doubled, instead of just guessing at it in a round bowl. I think I got mine at Sam's Club, but you can order them from Amazon, as well.

Hello, or shall I say good night, everyone!
I just had a workout at 9 pm. I slept all day, and I was tired from the headaches and nausea that came with them. I got up at 12:30 pm to take Rose to day camp and go to the gym to swim. I laid out my swimsuit and clothes, but I looked at Rose; she was sleeping on her back. So, I put everything away, ate a P3 for lunch, and returned to bed. Rose got in bed, and we slept well. Then I got up and decided that I needed to move my body. So, I forced myself to do it. Now, I am glad I did. I learned my workout shorts are too big, so I added them to the donation pile. I wore a smaller pair of shorts. I am so behind on my chores. I loaded the dishwasher but didn't do the laundry. So, I will put a load of towels in the wash. Then the swim stuff. Then I need to wash my work clothes. I realize that I have not eaten dinner. I am not hungry. With my diabetes, I better not skip. I get shaky and have to get up and take something to raise my blood sugar.

Carol—My husband will always be Baptist in some ways. His dad and Grandpa were Baptist ministers. However, when we married, I was a member of the United Church of Christ, and we were trying to find a church where we could go. My family is Catholic on my dad's side, and my mom's side was Baptist. My grandpa was a Baptist minister. I was baptized Lutheran but never attended a Lutheran church. I went to a Catholic church or Baptist growing up. Then, I tried different religions. I felt that I was a Christian either way. So when I was in the hospital, my DH was working, and he was helping two Mennonite pastors at Best Buy(even though he didn't work there:)). So, we both loved the church, and it was diverse
culturally. Then, after six years, he was offered a Pastor position in Mississippi and a promotion with
    Sealy.

Annie, I hate trying to figure out what to pack. Get yourself some lightweight PJs. I love gowns and PJs.
Amazon has an excellent selection of soft bamboo jammies.

It sounds like we are all moving our bodies more, and many are getting their creative juices flowing. That's good for you all. I am ready to hit the shower and read my book. I will be going back to work tomorrow. So, everyone, have a fantastic weekend. Allie, enjoy your cruise.
    XO,
    Mo

She says "ALWAYS LIE". We don't owe where we live, who we live with or any other information to strangers. We are not obligated to answer the phone or open the door if we don't know who it is. Be safe.
    Lanette B)
    SW WA State

Yep ... we can even lie when it comes to those security questions certain places require.

You know the ones ... (please do not answer these here)
    • In what city were you born?
    • What is the name of your favorite pet?
    • What is your mother's maiden name?
    • What high school did you attend?
    • What was the name of your elementary school?
    • What was the make of your first car?
    • What was your favorite food as a child?
    • Where did you meet your spouse?
    • What year was your father (or mother) born?

I hope you all are not answering these sorts of questions in quizzes on Facebook and elsewhere.

I also hope you all are not telling the truth when you provide answers for these security questions on the sites that require them. There is no requirement for you to tell the truth. No one is checking that. Your answers are just for you.

And don't repeat the same answers each time a place asks the questions.

If you answered, "yellow" for the year your mother was born for one place, use a different answer for the next place.

I don't mind any of you knowing my real name, but I don't want it typed out in full in this forum because the forum is fully searchable. ... Anybody on here with some reasonable cyber-stalking skills could figure out who I am using clues from my posts.

Yep. This forum is wide open.

At least FB and LinkedIn are somewhat private if you keep on top of your settings.

On being aware of the finances, bill-paying, etc. ... If you do not know what payments need to be made or how to do it, I highly recommend finding out.

If your spouse has a stroke or develops dementia or dies, knowing how to manage the bills will reduce your stress level significantly.

You can do it ... take it one step at a time.

On washers leaving "smudges" on clothing ... I find that our top loader will do that if I overload it. Although it looks like a soap powder smudge, it's not because I use liquid. I'm not sure what it is ... maybe lint?

PS someone asked about poisonous plants….. This is not a comprehensive list at all just the ones I happen to know Azaleas, Rhododendrons, Oleander(VERY poisonous), pyracantha berries, poinsettias, and peace lilies

I won't have Rhododendrons or Poinsettias in my yard or house because of how poisonous they are to cats.

I'm getting closer to my trip. I've been sleeping in sweats so I need pajamas of some sort. It's Last Vegas so it will be hot, but it's a trip with older women so the a/c might be cold at night. Hmm. Maybe a sleep shirt and a pair of light sweatpants. I think I will skip taking a book, to force me to be social. I'm nervous my habit of getting up at six eastern time will translate to lots of alone time. But I can buy a book at the airport. Or two.

I'm nervous about lots of things, but I think I have the main things covered. I get nervous about telling people about my life. I retired early because of medical cognitive issues which may have been related to menopause, falling off a horse, numerous concussions or who knows what. But that doesn't define me. And I feel awkward about my life now, taking care of Dad while I imagine my friends on cruises and seeing the world. But this is fulfilling, if stifling. And I have traveled some earlier, and worked a lot, too.

Have a marvelous day! May we all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

    Annie in Delaware

I have so many pajamas now ... I buy a new bottom (shorts, knee length or full length) and a new top about every 4 months. I love being comfortable. But if it were me going to a place that would be hot, I'd choose a tank top and shorts. Air conditioning in a hotel can rarely get it cold enough at night.

I don't think you have to be nervous about telling people about your life ... remember, you don't have to tell them every little detail. You don't have to tell people why you retired early, you can focus the conversation on what you did before you retired. And from all the messages I get in carer's emails, carer's posts on FB and carer's sites, apparently we're supposed to be happy and excited about our caring roles. Evidently our roles are super-important.

"Many family caregivers report positive experiences from caregiving, including a sense of giving back to someone who has cared for them, the satisfaction of knowing that their loved one is getting excellent care, personal growth and increased meaning and purpose in one’s life."
    https://www.apa.org/pi/about/publications/caregivers/faq/positive-aspects

"Being a caregiver is one of the most important and personally rewarding roles a person will play in their lifetime. ... research has shown that caregivers find the work fulfilling, opens the door to new experiences, and strengthens their relationships with others."
    https://www.homeinstead.ca/care-resources/caregiver-support/the-many-benefits-of-caring-for-others/

So you can recite some of that stuff ... about how wonderful it is to have the opportunity to be a caregiver for your father.

    Good morning beautiful ladies!

Hugs for everyone dealing with this hurricane!

Debbie we had (frozen) crab cakes for dinner. Dad eats his on a bun, and I had mine without. I like them for after horseback riding because they just pop in the oven. Quick and easy.

Sue sorry your sister is hard on you. Family often just doesn't match the images we have. Hope it gets better with time.

Lisa glad you can go back to your previous GI doctor. Hope the transition goes smoothly. You have learned so much about nudging the VA along its slow path.

Machka thanks for the support. I'm slowly getting better at accepting this retirement role, and being a caregiver has a lot to do with that.

Dad didn't put the flag up last night. Yay! Maybe he will stay inside at night for awhile.

Let's see- groceries today. I have the feeling I'm forgetting something else that has to be done today. I hate that. It might just be part of my trip
    nerves.

So have a great day my friends! May you all be warm and dry! And may you be happy, healthy, safe and free!
