45 here and I feel so uncool... I've been here since April and I didn't know about this thread!

The first 30 lbs have been fairly easy (lost some before I joined)... it seems to be getting much harder now to stay focused and on goal with calories...

    TGIF cool kids!!

tonytedesco - Happy birthday, hope it's a fabulous one for you!

Hi to the newcomers and lurkers

omg what a day... gin and tonic is calling my name! =)

Woke up to a torrential downpour this morning so hopped on my treadmill for 3 miles of incline intervals and didn't have time for much else other than the much needed stretchhh. Had a working lunch so didn't get out for a walk today but will probably do something later on, after my G&T of course!

TGIF is right, WhataBroad! So apparently trying to work out this morning on an empty stomach after having given blood yesterday was a BAD idea. NY Blood Center just says 4-5 hours of no exercising, so I thought I'd be fine, but man did I feel awful. At least I didn't actually faint, just felt like I might.... Well, now I know. And of course then to top it off it was so busy at work today (and I was so tired) that I was really craving chocolate. Managed to have one small truffle and keep it under control that way, but I think all I'm going to do tonight is head to bed early, and hope I've got more energy tomorrow after a good night's sleep.

I want to be in the 40+ club too !! I started my journey last year and lost 53 pounds! Then in January I went out on the road with my truck driver husband and gained back 19 pounds. While he is changing jobs I will be home for the next 3 months and I hope to loose 25 pounds before I rejoin him and then after the holidays I want to loose another 25 pounds..
I havent been heavy all my life..I think I was pretty much in proportion for my height (5'6 and 148) but after giving birth to 6 kids in less than 10 years my weight ballooned to 248. After 19 years of marriage I divorced my first husband and then lost 30 pounds. After marrying my second husband I got to comfortable with my self and gained back up to 238.
And now...Im just looking for friends and support because I am in a very rural area that is populated by alot of very Christian families and I am an atheist so I dont really fit in here and going thru this pretty much alone. And I have a few questions like..how do i get rid of all this extra skin?? Ewwww..anyhow,if anyone wants to be friends please add me! Thank you!

Fighting with middle son....middle school sucks and so do kids going through it because they are just pains-in-the-*kitten*.

Anyway, am trying to stay positive because daughter's 11th birthday is on tap this week.

And...............I'm also sick, on other threads, not this one, of people wanting to IGNORE that they ate too much and that's how they GOT FAT. I mean, REALLY? And, to LOSE that bodyfat, sister, you're gonna have to shut your piehole more often and EAT LESS.

    Deal with reality!

Count me in! I just turned 43. I was very athletic in my 20's as a cyclist. I weighed 108lbs. In my 30's, I stacked it on big time. I started MFP 10 days ago and lost 8lbs. I'm now 282lbs. I'm big, but determined to get myself back where I belong. I'm glad there's a club just for us!

Hi everyone, just found this club, is it open to those of us a little older than 40? It has been a long time since I saw that birthday, turned 70 this year. Feeling great, actually have muscles in my upper arms. This group is awesome, I have leveled off about 5 pounds above where I thought I wanted to be, but have built up my muscles, can't see much fat around any more and clothes fit nice too. Feeling great, and enjoying life; I have five kids, oldest daughter passed away 3 years ago from liver cancer; 10 grand kids and 6 great grands with another on the way.

I hear you! I'm also bipolar. The meds were in part the reason I gained so much weight. It gives you uncontrollable munchies at first. When you get stable on a drug, that DOES go away. I hope you feel better soon:)
  • hi everyone,
Had my first weigh in and i'm pleased to say I lost my first 2lb so that has encouraged me to try harder next week

Hello! I'm excited to be one of the cool kids (there's a first time for everything, right?) I've been browsing the posts in this topic and am already loving this group - everyone is so positive and supportive and realistic!
I just turned 40 on Friday! I checked off one item on my bucket list by completing my first half-marathon in May, but have really 'stalled out' since then. I gained 5 pounds over the course of this summer, which doesn't sound like much, but it makes a huge difference on my short frame! I'm looking forward to getting back on track and living a healthy life of moderation in all things.

jrhm, I want to tell you that you are my hero!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I look up to older women who are healthy for inspiration! Keep up the great work!!! My goal is to be healthy well into my 70's and beyond. I will be 50 in Nov. I am sorry about the loss of your daughter. It must be so hard to lose a child. Welcome to this group!!!

smithangela, way to go!!!! slow and steady!! :drinker:

shorthand, welcome!!!! Congrats on your first half marathon!!! Gaining 5lbs is no joke and they can take forever to lose. :grumble: :noway: It might be a good time to change your fitness routine and/or eat cleaner most of the time. That might do the trick.

ladicat, welcome!!! YOU CAN DO IT! You have taken the first step. This site is awesome! Let us know how we can help you!

These next 3 months are very challenging for me and a lot of people eating wise. There are sooo many temptations out there, everything pumpkin, all these sweets, Halloween, Thanksgiving, lots of birthdays in my family and friends, the Holidays...I normally gain anywhere from 3-10 lbs every year during this time in spite of continuing my exercise routine, etc. So my challenge starting this week until Dec 31 will be to MAINTAIN my weight, if I lose then that will be the icing on the cake. How am I going to do that? I am going to do that by watching carefully what I eat, eating clean (more veggies, fruits, lean meats, low fat, etc) at least 90% of the time (daily), cut back or eliminate the obvious culprit, fried foods, processed foods, sugar, etc. As far as exercise is concerned, I WILL NOT GET LAZY, no skipping workouts, challenge myself, etc. I am a Zumba instructor and I am starting this challenge with my students tomorrow until the end of Dec, the winner will win free Zumba classes for 6 mos. Who wants to join me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today my daughter is 11 years old. Hard to believe how fast the time goes by. On the other hand, I derive GREAT joy in watching this person develop! She's soooooooooooo awesome!

I have a late meeting after work, so won't be home until about 8....we'll quickly do gift-opening then, before she heads off to bed!

No exercise for me, today - and I'm trying to fast through until supper (since I have function with fancy food, anyway!).

Hello everyone!!!! Was MIA yesterday from the site but not from my health and fitness goals. Good to hear from everyone!

Beeps, happy birthday to your daughter!!!! Today is my niece's birthday (one of quite a few), she is 16. Tomorrow is my daughter's birthday, she will be 29!!!! I cannot believe it!!! There are so many birthdays in my family this month, 10!!!! The closest to me, my daughter and hubby.

I am still not sure what will be doing fitness wise this month...I am kinda stuck. Want to do something different, I am in between Jillian Michaels full frontal, backside, dvds or P90X again. Then Nov will be another story since I will be on vacation for 2 wks so I will have to improvise. Nutrition wise, I want to eat as clean as possible this month, high protein, lots of fruits and veggies, very low sugar, avoid processed foods as much as possible. It is kinda what I follow but I want to be stricter this month.

I am at work so I'd better get off...have a great day!!!! :flowerforyou:

Hey All! Wow, I went away for the weekend and look at all of the new faces! Welcome!

I decided not to count calories over the weekend. I knew we would be eating out everyday and not at places where it is easy to make the most healthy choices, but some of our favorites when we are visiting with my husband's family. I did get walks in every day we were there though. We had a nice time, but I was definitely glad to be home last night!

I am off the rest of the week as well and we had Jake today and took him to the pumpkin patch. It was fun. Since we spent so much time in the car yesterday, and I knew I wanted to sleep in a bit this morning before Jake got here, I took today as my rest day, but back at the logging and watching what I eat.

I will be back at the exercising tomorrow for sure. Have a great evening everyone!

I don't know about the extra skin issue, but I think your only option is surgery. :/

    Hi All,

Wow, reading through some of the thread - lots of new faces on here which is awesome!
Beeps, saw the pic you posted. I agree with the others, you look great!
Also had to chuckle at your comment about people being in denial about eating and weight gain. A few pounds have creeped back on and I know exactly why...have not kept the piehole closed!!!
I haven't been logging which is another big issue. I stopped logging when I was doing my reset and just have not started again. Been travelling so much lately (and I am off again tomorrow) that eating & logging becomes a chore.

I did a long run on the weekend and it wore me out! Man oh man am I outta practice. Am hoping to get back to the gym to start my lifting again. I miss it. I am going to hit it as soon as I get back from this run.

Have been feeling much more tired lately. I used to be able to lift and then run afterward, but not these days. I am just too tired after one workout, so, have had to chose running with my trail run looming.

The last couple of weeks, the weather has been spectacular! Sure hope it stays around for another couple of weeks. It's been a treat after the crappy summer we had.

    Hi Alf!

    Hi sdereski!

Today is my bff's birthday, Alf!! Good folks born in October (including my Dad on the 16th), I tell ya!

    Today, i lift!

Also, I'm off to see allergy specialist for testing...I haven't had my allergies tested in YEARS! (and, I'm learning through my children's doctors, that allergies can 'come-and-go' throughout ones life!). My original appt was for Feb. 19/14 - but I got onto their "cancellation" list and yesterday, BOOM, my name came up and I'll go there right after the gym!

Out of sorts for a few days - I'm back on track.!

And I'll agree that middle school is AWFUL. Kids are very mean and my oldest had a rough go of it. However, I will add that my he'sfound a better academic and social life in high school, so better times are out there.

I had a great weekend did the Color Vibe 5K on Saturday, then had an apple picking/pie baking party at the house.

The 5K, I don't run, I walk. And so we walked. That part was fun. The color stations were a bit lame, just a bunch of (mostly kids) throwing powder at you. I was expecting showers of color, bombs of color.. We walked away almost as clean as when we started! The other thing disheartening about the whole experience... the waiting two hours before we could even begin and then the whole dance party atmosphere. I guess for most that is what it is all about, but come on do we have to listen to Miley Cyrus and Justin Timberlake for hours, before 10:00 AM, out in a gorgeous open field! (And BTW - Are all the new songs about young girls giving it up???) I guess I am really starting to show my age! lol

The apple picking/pie baking party was awesome. Had so much fun with family and friends. There is one thing that bugs me a little though... well two actually. One is that people keep calling me skinny ( I know that they are happy for me and they think it is a compliment - however 4 years ago when I weighed exactly the same as I do today they never called me skinny then!). They also keep saying "you done now with all the dieting now?" and I have to explain yet again that I am not dieting, that I have started making better choices and controlling portions and that it is a lifestyle change and a lifelong journey, yadda, yadda, yadda, and then they say 'well you are not planning on losing more weight are you' and I have to say yes, as a matter of fact, I have about 20 more pounds to go... then they look at me funny.... I'm 5'7" and weigh 180, 20 pounds is going to put me just above the 'healthy' weight for my height. I know that they don't understand this and I know that they mean well and love me.. it just bugs me... okay rant over... moving on.

Happy Wednesday all. On another note.. my vacation starts in 2 days! YAY!!!

dlionsmane - Great job on your 5k. Running or walking, it's a great workout.

Been on track this week with my eating and logging. A good thing considering my stressful week at work.

    Yep, happy Wednesday all!

My appointment with the allergy specialist was scheduled for February 19, 2014 (my family doctor req'd it in July~~omg)

Alas, a "last-minute" cancellation got me into allergy specialist TODAY.

And, in case you didn't think I REALLY WAS allergic to everything in nature - I'm here to confirm that, yes, in fact, I'm allergic to everything in nature....BRING ON THE CONCRETE, baby!

No "food" allergies - although the allergy specialist DID explain to me why I still have asthma symptoms when ingesting wine, beer and spirits. (He did test for "yeast" - I'm NOT allergic....so, bring on the BEER!)

    Animals - yep.
    Plants - yep.
    Trees - yep.

    Here is the EXACT list:

    guinea pigs
    mouse
    hamster
    western weed mix
    sagebruxh
    grass mix (#10)
    fescue
    timothy
    cat
    dog
    horse
    cow
    dandelion
    white ash
    western tree mix
    sheep wool
    mould mix
    alternaria
    poplar
    willow
    mugwort
    cedar
    birch

In other words - I'm STILL not going "hiking" anywhere, I STILL can't go where "pets" are and I'll stick to my indoor (gym) activities, thank you very much!

42 Here. 40 is the new 30 anyway isnt it?

Well, I ran a marathon in my 30s, (well.... a half :)) and a short light run today nearly killed me after all this "middle age spreading" that's been going on.

    Here's to remembering the 1970's. :)

Beeps, what bkw said! And what a relief not to have a yeast allergy either. I hear you on the concrete, I think living in NYC is the only thing that keeps me from constantly sneezing and blowing my nose..... Of course we have all sorts of other lovely contaminants, but very little of that nature crap!

Typical Wednesday--started with a sculpt class, finished up with PT. My hip was really killing me today and I now have some of that super sexy kinesiotape on. Oh well, at least it's somewhere not everyone can see. I see a lot of women at the office rocking the kinesiotaped knee with a skirt look, it is kinda bada$$.

We'll be traveling this weekend and seeing friends, so I suspect much overeating (and drinking) will be done. Just for a few days, though, so I'll be back to the grind on Monday.
