    Good Morning Everyone!

I hope everyone had a good weekend! We got to see our youngest yesterday and had supper with her. She is starting to get ready for another beauty pagent that will happen in July. She will be home from college the second week of May. We are planning to go Gatlinburg, TN this Thursday through Sunday. We will be bringing our oldest daughter home with us. Her and her boyfriend will be meeting us there and we will bring her home with us and then she will fly back later next week. I finally talked my wife into another cat. We went to the animal rescue shelter and looked at them I found a one year old, long hair, black in color, tom cat that is very laid back. We also visited a gray male kitten that is about 7 months old. He was a real hand full. I think that the black one will be less of a shock to the other 2 cats. The oldest of our cats is 18 and the other is about 5. So our house is about to get livelier!
I just hate to see those cats in a shelter. My wife told me I could only get one!

Gayla- Welcome! It is nice to cyber-meet you! LOL I hope your son is feeling better.

Elli- Wonderful about your son coming home soon. I have one of my friends there now too. I worry all the time about all of our troops there and I am ready for them to come home! Very impressive about the house. We restored a victorian about 15 years ago. It took 7 years of constant work, but it was beautiful when we got done. We really made out on it. We had about 4400 square feet under roof when it was done. It was fun, but I don't care to repeat it! LOL

Barbie- Congrats! Keep going kid! I am starting doubles again this week. I am bound and determined to crack 70 pounds soon! But GREAT for you!

Marie- sounds like you have been busy! Good for you! We made beef stew Saturday and it was great. I am having leftovers today for lunch! Take care my friend!

Everyone else! Have a beautiful Monday!

    Mornin everyone!!
Gayla, I'm so glad you're here!! No one except you is worried about whether you are losing weight right now, you are always welcome.. I hope Neil hasn't had any complications from surgery, how is he?
There is another ice skating watcher here, I think it is Barbi, isn't it? I'd love to attend competitions like you.
Marie, hello early bird!! Do you wake the birds in Texas? I can't remember what I've been doing for the past few days, oh yes, painting the cabinet for the bathroom, Jim is just putting the sink on it now, and hooking up the water, checking for leaks, etc. I did an antique finish, then put some gold leaf here and there, maybe a little too much, but it will wear off eventually, in a dozen or so years!!

I've also been cleaning this bedroom where I keep the computer.. although it isn't near cleaned up.. I can at least See the bed!! My scrapbooking area is a mess, boxes of photos everywhere.. I must go thru them and put them in archive boxes, I feel that I can begin to make albums when I get them settled.

My meals have been pretty simple, but not enough green vegetables. I usually have the most vegetables at dinner, but I haven't wanted cooked meals lately.. I end up having cereal or oatmeal or PB & J sandwiches.. just no big appetite. I suppose I am falling back to the old timers way of having 'dinner' at noon, and 'supper' is only a small meal or snack, or cornbread and milk.

We have two dr. appts today, so I'd better get ready for them. We hope to leave by Wednesday at the latest.
Elli, I visited your blog and I am amazed at the size of your undertaking, you have big dreams!! glad to see that you and your friends and family are making them come true.
I've been browsing the web for wallpaper borders for the new bathroom.. I found a quote that I love, and I'll probably put it on a plaque instead of a border..
" Soap is to the body what laughter is to the soul".. Something different for the bathroom!!

I thought of the other thing I was doing, wrestling with this computer!! I spent about eight hours before I got it right.. a simple problem, and it takes forever to find the right solution.. I don't know why it has to be so hard to find solutions to windows related issues.. I googled and googled.. til I found a suggestion that worked.. I'm surprised I didn't crash the pc with all the solutions I tried!!
That is how I got this room cleaned up a bit, every time I had to restart the pc, I would keep busy by sorting stuff.. it worked!!
Hope all of you are having a good start to your week, it is a beautiful sunny day here, from several days of rain, flood level rains.. but if it soaks into the earth, I'm glad, Mother Earth is thirsty.
Living down south, I cannot imagine driving anywhere in snowy weather, I would stay put until it melted. Of course, it melts quickly here..not so for all of you!
    have a great week!!

I see that Jeffrey and Phoeve made it over to the new week.

Jeffrey, When will you go and get your black cat? If that is the one you decide on. Hope they all get along. Sound like you have a busy week ahead of you. Let see Sam is the youngest and ready for another competions. Wish her the besst of Luck. What is the oldest daughter name.? I'm sure you have mention it but it didn't stick with me.Poor menory.

Phoebe----Sound like you and Jim been pretty busy around the house. How is Jim's Step mother doing? I wish I could talk Jerry into doing something to our house. Hope to get some veggies oing in the garden this week. I got me some of those hangers that let you drop about five garments down so you have more room in the closet. That is my Project for today. I found them when Alice and I was out yesterday at Bed and Bath & Beyond

Will note to the rest of you as you post.

    have a great day----Marie

    Hi Marie!

The oldest is Amanda. She is the Choir Director north of Atlanta. Our memory does not get bad as we get older, we just have more to keep track of! LOL We will probably get the cat next week, after we get back from our trip. He is a real mellow cat, the black one, and that is one of the reasons that I am leaning towards getting him. I think he will be easier on the 2 others than the younger one. We whall see. I just called the vet to get a price on de-clawing. OUCH! About $260 for a check up and the proceedure. Oh well! Another cat hits the lotto! Why not me???

hi everyone - happy Monda! I'm so glad the weekend is over:laugh: ! I can get back to work and quit being in the HOUSE 24/7! Jeffrey - you scared me BIG when you said 7 years........... omgomgomg - what have i gotten myself INTO????????? Lucky little black cat to be adopted by you! I hope the other cats and he will get along. My big male doesn't seem to get along with any other male cats we try and adopt (people are always just dropping animals off out in the country........I'll keep the cats as long as they get along with mine - i always neuter them tho)

Phoebe, i know, i know - very big dreams........i wasn't going to go this big - originally i just wanted the addition and little work on the old part. it just kept growing and growing and GROWING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :noway: Now i have to just keep going at LEAST until i can move back in!!!!!!!!! Scary! Where will you be going to when you leave on Wednesday? Do you guys drive all lower 48? Or do you actually never have to drive in the SNOW?!?!?!? THAT would be awesome! No big mountains either???????

Hi Marie - how are you doing today? Glad you got rid of all your water weight! I don't know why your friend couldn't take her laptop with her to Iraq - everyone i know has taken theirs........hopefully you'll hear from her when she's back.

I lost the pound i had gained plus another so i'm good today! I'm halfway to my 12 pound goal. I think it will be slow going from here but that's all right. I'm going to shoot for 3 pounds a month. I think that's pretty realistic, huh?

Thanks everyone also for your well wishes for my son coming home in Aug. It's been a long deployment this time - 15 months - and we can't WAIT! It'll be great if i can move into my house by then and if he and his wife come up they can stay in his old room! I may be dreaming a little bit here tho!

Have a great day everyone - i'm going to the gym after work today. I may not work in the house tonight becuase the wind is SO bad - it just grates on my nerves and it's worse over there right now because so much of the house is down to just lathe........

Happy Day to all of you,

The dogs and I got up at 6 this morning and got to have a 40 minute visit to the dog park.

Since then I've been doing errands. Jake is playing golf so we won't eat our big meal until he gets home. I planned an apple as a snack so I won't be a starving wreck waiting for him:laugh:

Gayla:flowerforyou: Welcome:smile: We are a support group to each other through the ups and downs. Keep coming back, we're glad to have you with us. My best friend that I go everywhere with has lost 40 pounds since May. From May to January when I started to follow a plan to lose weight, I learned from her and gained inspiration from her success. Each day is new beginning and who know when you'll have the change of outlook that will make all the difference. Best wishes to your son for the healing he needs to be back on track with his life. He's lucky to have a loving and patient mom like you.

Elli, how great that you have a friend to help you with the wiring and a professional to go over your plans. One of the greatest lessons I learned late in life was to ask for help. It looks like you learned that lesson sooner than I did. I'll be thinking good thoughts about your son and his return. What fun it will be to have him and his wife stay in his old room.

Jeffrey---how great about your new cat. We have two cats ages 13 and 2. When we got the kitten two years ago, the older cat avoided him and treated him with scorn. Later when we got a puppy, the older cat reevaluated his relationship with the other cat and decided that a goofy kitten was better than a puppy. We had black cats for years (Sin, Lucifer, Boris, Velvet, and Noah). The two cats we have now were in need of a home and we couldn't not take them just because they weren't black. The older one was abandoned at a highway rest stop and the younger one was born to a stray pregnant cat that a friend rescued. Keeping up with a kitten ought to burn off a few calories. Keep up the good work and remember that the closer to your goal, the harder it is to get rid of the pounds.

Phoebe, you've been busy too, that should burn some calories.

Marie, thanks for staring the new thread. Your warmth and friendship add so much to my day.

My goals for today are to keep on doing the things that have been working.

    Have a great day,

hope everyone's having a good evening.

Our FedEx guy came by today to say good bye - he's taking a different job - and his wife ALWAYS makes goodies. So we ended up with a loaf of banana bread.....i just took a small piece and gave the rest to my friend to take home to her family. I saved a little piece of the little piece for tomorrow - but it's definitely more than i should have eaten today.:ohwell:

Marie - that's good that you're getting your wills in order. It's so important! I need to update mine - i don't think i have since both my kids have been over 21. I still have Dillon named as Dakota's guardian - lol. I sure hope that old cow will be gone SOON! It's going to be warm anytime now (not tonight tho - SO windy and cold) and the dogs and i are going to walk down there!!!!!!!!!!!!

Barbie - you are so dedicated to get up at 6 with the dogs! I get up, feed 'em and put them in the yard! Then sometime around 10, weather permitting, we'll go for a short walk. They have a big yard to hang out in, and after the turkeys go home (my neighbor's 3 tom turkeys like to hangout over here - go figure!:noway: ) i'll let them out to run around. You're so right about each day being a new beginning - thank you for that!

OK - i'm done for the night! Everybody have a good one - see you here tomorrow! elli

Elli- The 3 pounds per month are realistic. Are you eating all your calories? I just wanted to know if it is working for you that way. Don't get discouraged if you fall a little short. You are at a pretty fit weight now. You may want to start checking body fat percentage now. It is a great indicator of "what is left to do". anyway you are doing just great! I am very proud of you! Keep on going!

Marie- Just updated ours too. I like no loose ends! We have an attorney that we use for different things, property, work contracts, etc. Our was real simple, pay off what we owe, split the rest! It will be harder now with 3 cats! Get it? LOL I liked that one!

    You all have great evening!

    Good Evening Everyone.
I am back from Detroit where my granddaughter and her company did an amazing job. We got platinums in all of our small group numbers and had the top 5 highest scores. I spend most of the day catching up on email, and things to do around the house. I am glad to be home and have to admit I missed my MFP friends. :smooched:

I had a lot of reading to do to catch up with everyone but will try to comment on your posts. If I forgot someone or something bear with me. :embarassed:

Marie, you are our leader and keep us all together. Thank you for all your hard work and all your wonderful comments. :flowerforyou:

Barb, I am still turning over while you are walking your dogs.

BGamma, we miss you, hurry back.

Jeffrey, how exciting that you have a daughter in a beauty pageant, how proud you must be. I know how supportive I am with my granddaughter and how happy she makes me watching her dance.

Elli, your house is going to be beautiful when you are done. As I said before God keep your son safe and bring him home safe and sound.

Jake, I didn' see a post from you, but I know you are working hard and keeping fit. You love birds probably need some time alone. :flowerforyou:

Dkell, welcome to our great thread. If there is anything you need or want just ask, we all help each other in special ways.

Lafla, hello and welcome. I already love you because you are a special mom with a special son.

Thank you all for your warm welcome.
We did our usual Monday in the city -- lunch with my son at the restaurant where he is the chef and then off to do errands. Got home to do some laundry and make dinner, Lime Chicken, Peas and Noodles. The citrus was right up my alley but for Dave, not so much. Monday is the evening that we always watch sit-coms together and then I had to squeeze in the Dancing with the Stars. You can see why I have no time to exercise. Once we get the hospital bed out of the family room I will move the exercise bike back in.
I need to get to bed as we have to be at the hospital early tomorrow morning for Neil to have another little surgery, just a cyst removal. Not a biggie, just enough to get him stressed. Dave and I are going to a workshop on Wed. afternoon and Neil just realized that he will have a Home Care Aide staying with him, not impressed about that for sure. I don't know why really, he has liked every one of them that has ever come. I think we should do it on a more regular basis and maybe he would be better about it.

Take care everyone and keep smiling. Gayla

    Good Morning Everyone!

I hope all are well! Nothing new to report today. Had a good workout last night and not too sore today. The arm is getting better, just a little "stained" feeling. I will know tonight how well it really is, I have to push it for today's workout program.

It is cold and gloomy here today, but better weather will eventually get here, I hope!

Sandy- Glad you are safely back! And congrats to the young one!

Gayla- Sounds like a busy day again for you.

    Take care everyone!

hi all, just a quick note.
We are waiting for a trip. Things are still up in the air these days.. not at all like last year.. usually spring brings busy days at work. However, I am such a homebody, that, until we are broke, I will not mind being here!!
Gayla, you are probably right, Neil does not like change, and he might need more of it for it to become easier. I like your excuse for not exercising, since you are in a cold climate, it is a good one.. mine is that time seems to move at a double clip around here.. days just disappear!! we were gone for seven hours yesterday, it seemed like less, until I saw how late it was.. by the time dinner was over, it was bedtime!!
time to check on 'threecats'.. they go out in the morning, in the fenced backyard, but Pudge goes over the fence.. we have too many 'visitors' such as un neutered toms, etc.. we have to watch out for aggressive ones.

Marie, if you contact Mike/MFP, see if we can get a larger font.. you know that is not so important to young folks..

Marie, it is flylady.. don't know if it is dot.com or dot.net, can't remember, she is too tough for me, haha.. I've been reading motivational books about getting rid of clutter.. it works, but I have to read them more than once!! I tend to backslide.. but I do have two large full bags of clothes and shoes, with more to add to them, if I get the chance. I got my books from paperbackswap.com for free.. then there is a chapter on clearing out clutter of books!!

That right Fly Lady. Now why wouldn't my mind wpould not let me remember that thanks Phoebe. Maybe I will look it up today. Losing some of this excess weight is my main goad now Had an e-mail from Kay today right after I post that about Fly Lady she made a Strawberry cake that sounded real good. Marie

I went to fly lady and I am doing the baby steps. this is all I have to do today

    Day 1

    http://flylady.net/pages/FLYingLessons_Shine.asp

After you do this; you will keep it shiny by drying it out after each time you use it and making sure when you go to bed that it is shining so it will make you smile in the morning. This is how I get to hug you each day! That shiny sink is a reflection of the love that you have for yourself.

Our FlyLady system is all about establishing little habits that string together into simple routines to help your day run on automatic pilot. You can do this!

Hello to all:bigsmile:

I love hearing about your busy lives and your ups and downs.

Ellie, losing 3 pounds is great for you with not so many left to lose. 3 pounds in the next month is a great goal. you can do it:flowerforyou: Your banana bread reminded me that my husband got a homemade fruitcake in the mail from his brother a few days after he started his weight loss journey. He cut it into small pieces, wrapped them in foil, put them in freezer bags and put them in the back part of the freezer to take out one at a time when he reaches his goal weight. Then he was able to call his brother and say thank you with a clear conscience.

We don't have a fenced yard. Our yard backs up on a fabulous "green belt" in our subdivision so our yard looks huge even though we don't own all of it. We mow the back part and keep it nice. If we put up a fence we'd only be able to fence the small part that is ours. So we made the decision that we'd walk our dogs rather than lose the big yard. Besides, we're such "helicopter parents" that we could never let our dogs out without one of us standing right there. Yes, I know, my problems are basically of my own making.

Marie:flowerforyou: ---good for you getting your will written. I argued on the phone with my 80+ year old cousin for years because she had no will and kept telling me that I'd know what to do with her stuff after she died.

Sandy:flowerforyou: glad you got home safely---what a thrill it must have been to see your granddaughter dance so well.   Isn't it amazing how much work there is when you get home from a trip.

Jeffrey, how proud you must be of your daughter in the beauty pageant.  a beautiful daughter and a dad who's a "hunk" what a great family:bigsmile:

Gayla, :flowerforyou: I hope you get your exercise back where you can use it. I love mine and get on it every day because it's in front of the TV:bigsmile: good luck to your son, hope he continues to recover both in body and in spirit.

Phoebe:flowerforyou: Enjoy your time at home......I'm amazed that your cats will stay in a yard....mine are so determined to go off exploring

Tomorrow is the first day of April. Let's set ourselves some goals for the new month. I'll think about mine tonight and post them during the day tomorrow.

drink lots of water:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:

    Good Evening,

Had a good day today, played cards with my friend, went for lunch with him and my husband. I had some tuna with rice which was good and filling, so I didn't finish the whole thing.

Didn't have time this morning to exercise so I did it this evening for 30 minutes. Harder to exercise at night than in the morning, but that might just be me. :noway:

Everyone seems to be doing great and congrats Ellie on the 3 pound loss. :drinker:

Goals for April??? Hmmm, have to think about that and see if I can come up with something that is feasible.

Have a good night and pleasant dreams.

hi everybody! just got done working in my house after working out at the gym for an hour. I'm working on wood in my Soldier/Son's old room right now and it's AWFUL! Red and blue with lime green paint underneath it!!!! I'm not doing a very good job..........:frown:

Hi Sandy - welcome back home - WAY cool that your granddaughter and her group did so well! What a thrill!!!!!! Thank you also for your thoughts about my son. This deployment isn't as scary for me as the first one was.

Marie - i'm so glad you heard from your friend in Afganastan. We have a bunch of friends - from Dillon's old unit - who just came home from there. We're so thankful. That's funny - Dillon doesn't talk about the food much, and my Dad is always asking him!

Phoebe - did you guys get dispatched yet?

Gayla - it's great to see you on here! You'll get to exercising when it's the right time for you. Hows Neil feeling? Wishing him speedy healing.

Barbie - i'd have to agree with you - no WAY would my cats stay in a yard! Sometimes i have trouble keeping the DOGS in the yard! My younger son and his girlfriend have one dog that always manages to escape!

Hi Jeffrey - thank you for your input - i have a scale that measures body fat but i don't know how accurate it is - mine's about 22%. I feel pretty good and pretty fit - i just want to lose a few more pounds and then learn to stay within 4 or 5 pounds for the rest of my LIFE! I have 500 calories left for today if i calculated my exercise right and there's just no way i'll be able to get those in. I find if i use the programs that allow me to put my weight in it takes WAY more exercise to burn calories so i think it's pretty accurate.

Anyway - some people are on their way over, then i better hop in the shower - kinda gross after working out and stripping paint!!!!!!!!

Marie - did you ever get that storm???? I guess we're expecting TWO now.:ohwell:

Happy April tomorrow everyone - hope nobody's computer crashes!!!!

    elli:flowerforyou:

Elli,--- the storm did pass by but wasn't too bad. we had a lot of lighting and thunder. And the ground got a good soaking. Which we needed. Sammy didn't even get too shook up too much. He is such a wrimp.

Barbie---That planning our goal for April is such a good ideal> I was hoping you would post it on our chatting group. on the master list thread. We need some common Goal within us. I know mfpme would appreciate it. thanks It would be a big help.

to all the rest of you, It is bedtime for me. Gonna have 1 more cup of decaf coffee before bed.
    see you guys tomorrow--- Marie

just a quick good nite from me.. took a nap this afternoon, so I am not too sleepy now.. won't keep me awake for long though.
Barbie, the cats have gained weight, which makes it less fun to jump up and over, I guess, plus the biggest one is a scaredy cat.. but he is very protective of his backyard..against stray cats. The new guy, Pudge, will probably always go over the fence, he is used to his freedom, but he comes back home.. I wish he wouldn't go..I would be so upset if he didn't return. I know, I should not let them out if that is the case.
Hi Sandy, I hope you aren't as tired as I usually am when I get back home. Are you having a lot of rain up your way?
Gayla, when do you have your last freeze-usually? For our area it is April 25 appx. Atlanta is about april 15.
Elli, the good news is.. we are home for a while longer. The bad news is.. we are home for a while longer. :noway: It seems things are really slow, and when dispatch said it would be Friday before we could leave, we decided to stay home til next Wednesday. Jim has three appts between now and then. Two are with VA doctors, and we need to keep them. We were going to cancel the first one, but now we are going to make all of them.
Marie, you may find this interesting, I should post it on the Diabetes thread. Agent Orange, the herbicide used in Vietnam during the war, has been linked to an increase in diabetes risk for veterans. We only found out a couple of months ago, and since then, Jim has been to the VA for an initial application. Now they are starting testing, which could take some time. This will help if he is ever unable to work because of his health.
Speaking of Jim, he has built a headboard for me. It is made from cedar fence boards..I love that wood.. so rough and it smells good. He is putting a coat of polyurethane on it, it darkens it slightly, and that will be it. He made a beautiful Victorian birdhouse using cedar, then put the same coating on it.. it still looks like it did brand new. I haven't checked it for occupants yet.
Jeffrey, you take care of that arm, it will be carrying a new cat soon.. I can't put our new guy down for long.. nite all..

    Good Morning!

Yup! Getting the new cat. "Joe"! We have to wait about a week to bring him home. He has to go to the vet and get micro chipped and we are leaving town for a few days tomorrow.

The arm is back to 95% now. Had a great workout last night. Lots of chin-ups and weights, then about 400 crunches of different types. It feels like the weight is back down. I will weigh again before too long. I hope to be able to bread that darn 70# mark.

Pj- good to hear from you!
Elli- looks like you may have more snow coming! Another blizzard???
Marie- glad the storms missed you!

Everyone else we are half way through the work week! Whoo Hooo!

Have a great day! Smile a lot!

    Jeffrey

Jeffrey. so the name is gonna be Joe. that a real tomcat name. Hope your arm is much better. Have a nice weekend with you family. You all sound like such a wonderful family. take care of them, the cats too.

We live on a short st. 5 houses and caliecat has the roam of the neigborhood. She is pretty street wise. She is one cat that had to have her freedom, but since she has gotten older she sticks pretty close to us. We let Sammy walk down the street with us , He is such a wimp he wont leave our side. But used a least on him if we go take him anywhere. Which we did the other day, we took him to Pet Mart and like to went crazy with all the smells. such a big neck that he can just slips right out of his collar. So that is not safe either.

Everybodiy else Have a very happy day. Marie
