hi everybody! why do they always have to "fix" stuff that isn't broken! Sheesh!!!!!!!!

I'm just popping in quickly to wish everyone a happy, safe, blessed Thanksgiving. You all are SO good about your food. ME, on the other hand - lol. I'm fixing turkey, sausage chestnut dressing, sweet potatos, mashed potatos, gravy, cheese and nut loaf, creamed onions, hot seafood dip.....my girls are bringing deserts, green bean casseroles, sage and fennel torte, and sweet potato casserole........OMG am i going to be BAD?!?!?!? But i'm going to enjoy the food and all my beautiful young family. I feel so very blessed and joyful about this holiday. I'm SO lucky.
Thank you all for the support and caring you show on this thread. You guys are the best!
OK - i'm back to work for another hour and then off to do the cooking! Hopefully I'll have a chance to catch up over the weekend!

Hi everyone! Why do they change things?? However, we will get used to it and it will soon feel like home. Everyone sounds busy getting ready for Thanksgiving. Turkey sounds awfully appealing. I think it is time to start thinking about Christmas presents. I heard them advertising midnight madness at the mall. It seems strange when we are still so warm.

Barbie -- You asked about the Rice Cooker. What I did was stir-fried the veg. a bit and then put them in the cooker with the rice and water, so not much to it. I do think they could go in without the stir-fry and will likely try it that way the next time to see if it makes any difference. There are a lot of recipes online for the rice cooker from oatmeal porridge to spaghetti.

Elli -- You are a busy girl (no surprise) and it sounds like a fantastic dinner.

Marie -- Are you going to Alice's for dinner?

Sandy -- Hopefully one day the kids will learn to tolerate one another. We don't have to love each other to share space and be pleasant. It would sure make the holidays less stressful for you. You are very patient.

Birdie -- You are doing fantastic and have a great plan for a food focused day. That is def. the way to get through it.

Take care everyone and keep smiling. Gayla

:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: We just finished our healthy breakfast and are headed for our usual Thursday morning spiritual meeting. We have the morning for exercise and rest then we head out to our friend's mom's house two hours away. All we have to bring is the sparkling cider which we won't drink because we don't waste our calories on beverages. We don't have to cook anything which is good because it's less work, and bad because we won't have any chance to make sure there are lower calorie food choices.

We finalized the trade in of the little red car yesterday and now we have a sensible burgundy four door Ford Taurus. We're going to drive it to dinner today to see how it drives over a longer distance and how it handles in the rain.

    Happy Thanksgiving, dear friends,
hugs      Barbie

  • Happy Black Friday!

We had a great Thanksgiving! Had some family here and then went to our friends house. I over-ate! I am paying for it now. I think that the girls and I are heading into Fort Wayne to "shop". I have been working this morning but it is a waste of time.

I hope everyone had a great day!

:flowerforyou: Happy Friday morning, We don't shop for Christmas. We just send checks to our kids:laugh: so we won't be in the stores today. We had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner
we figured out that this is the first time in our 20 year marriage that we've gone to someone else's house for Thanksgiving. It was fun. I followed my own suggestion to pay more attention to the people than to the food and it made the day even better. I spent time talking to everyone at the event (I think there were 16 people plus the 5 month old baby). One guest was the 97 year old grandma/aunt who kept me occupied with stories about all the family members. Another guest was a professional Santa. I ate more than usual and went over my calories but I said no to pecan pie, apple pie, pumpkin pie, and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies  My big splurges were a fabulous cranberry sauce made with oranges and walnuts, stuffing, and a ton of turkey. I skipped the mashed potatoes and gravy. We drank Perrier and skipped the sparkling cider. Dinner started with everyone sharing what they were thankful for and that gave us a great opportunity to get to know the family even better. They've already invited us to come back next year.

Jake signed up his best friend as an associate in our business. He was blown away at how much weight we'd lost and wanted to know how we did it. By the end of the evening he was inclined to order the products and become an associate. When we got home at 10PM Jake was at the computer getting his friend signed up so I turned on my recording of the Macy's parade and walked and jogged to the music for 40 minutes before going to bed.

We're taking the day of and relaxing......I'll go to line dance this morning and then we'll have the afternoon and evening together with no phone calls or business related work.

I hope everyone had a wonderful day
:flowerforyou: Marie, I'm glad you were able to stay on your eating plan.
:flowerforyou: Jeffrey, I hope you enjoyed the pecan pie when you over ate.
    hugs:heart::heart: Barbie

    I hope you all had

You all just heard from Barbie,we had a great day, I don't get to see Vic nearly as often as either of us would like. We've know each other for a lot of years and are more like brothers than anything. I, of course am the best looking and frankly the smartest. Not bragging just stating the facts. We had a great time, I'm looking forward to spending more time with Vic's family, he and Leny live in the Bay Area so they only get up here one or two times a year.

The other day we bought a second car as a result of our business doing well, it is definitely a boost to the business. We had decided to sell our Miata and get a car that we can use for travel outside the area with the room to carry what we need. I am traveling more again and the MX5 just didn't cut it for that kind of use. Life is good! We'll pick up the girls this afternoon after Barb gets back from dance class, I have some errands to do in the morning so we'll wait til after lunch. The like where they stay, but a kennel is still a kennel.

I hope you all have had a great start to the holiday season, please be safe and don't forget to laugh a lot! Do you know that the average child laughs 200 times a day and the average adult only 18 times a day. We have a lot of catching up to do so practice laughing, but not while you're drinking all that wonderful purified water that I know you are drinking. :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:

Great Picture Barbie and Jake, you sure are a great looking couple. You both look so fit, it is hard to believe you were ever over weight. Your Thanksgiving sounds like it was wonderful, ours was more on the quiet side (except for my step son who always gets belligerent when he drinks). I too, was surprised with what I ate and really didn't gain. I don't eat dessert, but I did have some mashed potatoes and dressing. I made sure I did the elliptical in the morning so I would have some extra calories.

I refuse to leave the house on Black Friday, although I did buy a new monitor for myself on line and one other Christmas present.
I spent most of the day trying to figure out how to add a link on the dance website that allows the parents to pay on line. I did get it done and was proud of myself. My computer guy brought back my desktop today so my computer is like new.

Hope to get my tree up tomorrow and all the decorations that I put up in the house. Waiting for the landscapers to trim our bushes before putting the outside lights up.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Hi to you all. It was a bit cooler here today but still a lovely day for the end of November. Today was my last day of work! Even though I am so happy to retire it is a little sad to leave my second home of 27 years. They had a very nice tea for me yesterday with a few tears shared. I was surprised by so many staff and family there. Unfortunately no one remembered pictures so I will just have to remember it in my head. Dave and Neil both enjoyed themselves. Because I will be working a few hours a week I didn't have to empty my desk so that saved me a bit of work. I finished the reports that I had to do and got away by 7 this evening. I have a lot of emails to read (mostly delete) but they can wait until I pop in December 11. It is the kids Christmas Party and then Staff lunch so I plan to attend both.
I do feel like I have been an incredibly lucky person and have had a wonderful career. I have never had a job that I didn't love, all the way back to my after school Nurses Aide job my last year of high school. How lucky was I to have a 4 hour a day job after school in Pediatrics!! That job let me know that I absolutely wanted to be a nurse. My first job after nurse's training was in Coronary Care, not my first choice but I was put there for a reason. I fell in love with cardiac nursing and as we moved a bit I continued in that field at 3 more hospitals. I decided I wanted to teach nurses so went to University. I was on the extended plan as I had 3 children while I attended University. After Neil was born and we became acquainted with disabilities my interests took a bit of a turn. Although I was offered a teaching job at the tech. school I chose a job working with infants and toddlers with disabilities and their parents which is the job I just left. I learned an incredible amount from them and hope I have left just a little bit with them.
I didn't intend to write a life story here, it just sort of happened. I just shake my head and say 'lucky, lucky girl.

Take care and keep smiling. Gayla

Congratulations Gayla!! You are an inspiration to all of us. What a great field you are in and when you love your job it is easy to go to work everyday. I admire any nurse or doctor, mostly because it is something I could never do. I had a hard time handling my children when they needed stitches. I am good with the elderly though and was able to take care of both my mom and my mother in law when they chose to die at home. Again, congratulations and I do hope you will try to enjoy your retirement just a little.

:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: Congratulation, Gayla, on your retirement.......thank you for sharing your long and varied work history.......I enjoyed reading about all the things you've done......your retirement won't be as big a change for you as mine was for me, since you'll be doing some work even as a retired person......when I retired I spent ten days cleaning out my classroom at the end of the school year and a month later sold my house and moved 150 miles away and then a few months later, moved to another state. I hope you'll enjoy your retirement as much as I've enjoyed mine:bigsmile:

:flowerforyou: Sandy, you sure are a night owl. I saw your post just before I headed to bed. Jake wasn't thinking when he decided to go to Wal Mart yesterday to buy all weather floor mats for the new car.......he said it was a zoo and took forever to shop for what he wanted.......when I walked the dogs last night I saw the first of the outdoor Christmas lights in our neighborhood.....

:flowerforyou: Marie, I'm so glad you stayed on your plan. Do people ask you silly questions about when you'll be able to eat like "normal people" again? I can't believe how many people who eat everything they see, think they can ask those of us who are eating for health, such goofy questions.

There are some more craft fairs today so we'll go wander through them.....one of them is partly farmers' market so we may find some good vegetables but otherwise we won't buy anything. Jake is shampooing the carpets.....he started yesterday and has been working since he got up this morning so I'll have to figure out some way to drag him away from his work.

    Have a great Saturday......:heart::heart: hugs,:heart::heart: Barbie

    Hello Everyone...

Gayla, :flowerforyou: congratulations on your retirement. You are very fortunate to have found a field you enjoyed working in, were good at, and appreciated for your efforts. I can assure you from personal experience, all are not so fortunate.

Barbiecat,:flowerforyou: It looks like you are down ANOTHER pound since I last noticed your ticker. Tell Jake if he REALLY wanted to have "fun" he should have come down here and gone to the Woodburn (OR) outlet mall that opened up at 10p on Thanksgiving evening and stayed open until 9p Friday night!!! :noway: Except, I am not sure he could have gotten there without a helicopter. There was a big traffic jam in both directions on I-5 as a result of all the people trying to get there!!

Marie,:flowerforyou: Such self control, putting those pesky pies in the freezer!! Way to go. And while you are at it, send some of that peach cobbler up to Washington, sounds yummy!!!

For the latest in the doggie world, it appears Bradley is a very nosy little boy who can apparently climb higher than I thought. I returned from being out this morning to find a bag that I had placed somewhere that the other dogs have never bothered had been appropriated by "his honor" and a bag with 3 doggie chew bones had been sniffed out and opened and the "three little pigs" were having a munchout in my living room!!!  Apparently, I will have to improve my storage system for all things edible, as this is the 2d time this week I have found such a surprise. Earlier in the week it was a bag of soy and flax seed tortilla chips. I didn't see them under the dining table 'til the next morning, but it certainly explained why nobody was particularly interested in their dinner that night!!!!

To anyone I haven't mentioned, hope everyone is having a good long weekend.

Barb, your puppies are so funny especially that Bradley. Thank goodness what they have eaten is not bad for them.
We left Daisy for an hour to go to Church and this time she was a good girl. Of course I picked up everything I thought she might get in trouble and put it in another room.

Glad everyone had a good Thanksgiving and managed to stay close to their calories. I am tired of turkey now and probably won't eat it again until next year.

Marie, you are doing terrific, keep up the good work. I am counting on you to start the December thread, you do a better job than I did.

Tomorrow is my youngest son's birthday, he will be 37 and the next day his brother who will be 38. They were a year apart almost to the day. I had C sections and wanted them to have the same birthday but it was Thanksgiving the year the 37 year old was born, so I had to wait until the next day. We will celebrate the 38 year birthday with his daughter tomorrow and go out for dinner. The younger one just moved to Arizona, so all he got was a card and a check.

Hope your Saturday was good and your Sunday even better. Hopefully, I can start my Christmas decorating tomorrow, as it didn't work out on Friday or Saturday.
