Well I had a really bad scare this past weekend. Saturday night I was sitting in the recliner and my left arm start feeling weird and I started getting a weird feeling in the left side of my chest as well. I was so scared and worried I was going to have a heart attack. And what's weird is I've never known anyone to have a heart attack nor did I really know the symptoms but when I felt what was going on...a heart attack is what came to mind.
My blood pressure has been high, well higher than normal. And I can feel it too.
I feel ok now, as far as the whole arm thing and chest thing. But I am done just letting myself go and eat what i want and drink what I want. I just stopped and I don't know why.
I am going to start tracking again. No more caffeine, or very very little.
My husband said he will help me anyway he can.
Not only have I gained back a lot of the weight I lost, but this scare I had. Really scared me. So I am going to try and check in everyday. My life and health is more important than the crap I have been eating/drinking.

Have you talked to a doctor?

No I have not. I do not have insurance. So unless I have to go, I don't go to the doctor.

Tina this may be a time where you have to go just to make sure it isn't something serious going on....what I read scared me too and first thought was go to the doctor.

Agreed. I speak from experience when I say, a quick response could save your life. It might have been a very mild stroke or a heart incident. You really should get it checked out.

    Agree!!

I always keep baby aspirin with me now. A container on my key chain and a small bottle I keep upstairs at night.

    Stay safe.:flowerforyou:

Hyzaarc - Congrats on loosing the weight! As far as temporarily living with your aunt - I say go for it! It might be very good for both of you to have a break from each other and a way for both of you to establish new healthy routines. Stay in touch with him of course, but talk to him as one adult to another, not in the obedient daughter role, and relish it! Coax him to eat healthy too!

Toots - where ya moving to? Very far? Its still a hassle either way! Hows hubby dealing with it?

Susan - you are at such a wonderful, exciting time in your life. You really need a gym in your life too, to burn off EVERYTHING that is building up inside! I envy you your career - I was once there and its a neat place to be (soooo long ago!) but you've got to have a vent for the pressures or you will have trouble with your food and stuffing things inside! I think of you as a responsible person and if you had a gym, you'd use it wouldn't you? Can you afford the cost? Can you negotiate some kind of 6 month bonus at your 3 month review? (I would, I can tell you that!)

MowMow - your food resolutions are so good, you'll be feeling energetic in no time. I need to make the same commitment, and I will soon. I need a few more days. Waffle time I call it. I have been more spontaneously exercising again today, having music on and dancing a little to it. Sigh. Music, wonderful.

Tina - if you won't see a Dr. can you at least start checking you Blood pressure regularly at those machines at the pharmacy? I am concerned too about your "little episode", and I'm so glad it has not recurred. I am not in a panic for you, if this is a one time event. This is at the very least a warning to you that you need to find a way to get health insurance. Its hard to do alone, I would try to find a social services advocate who can help you search for insurance coverage.

I’m sorry to all of those struggling right now, I think we all go through that phase. Hang in there!

Monday Check-in~Had my MRI this morning and ran into the radiologist a few minutes ago – the knot on my Achilles is actually my Achilles (its swollen), so the diagnosis there is tendinopathy. I also have a longitudinal tear in another tendon along with an old tear in a ligament around the ankle – I haven’t officially heard from my doctor yet but see a visit to a foot specialist in my future. The radiologist doesn’t think I’ll need surgery but does suspect he’ll want to immobilize and I’ll be in a boot for awhile – hoping also that the specialist will do a cortisone injection into the Achilles to relieve the swelling, maybe it will speed up healing. I WILL find a way to exercise though!

@Tina~How scary and just like everyone else here, I am scared for you! I do hope this was a one-time event, symptoms like that should never be ignored though. If it happens again, please go straight to the ER. Take care of yourself, your husband is there for you and sounds really supportive – so take him up on that.

Thank you everyone for your concerns. I will keep an eye on my blood pressure. And trust me I know that it could have been something serious. But had it not gone away I would have went to the hospital. I know it's nothing to wait around for or to ignore.

When I went to walmart I took my blood pressure 3 times. Twice in a row and then walked around awhile and came back and took it.
    Results 1-141/92
    2-137/89
    3-139/82
Now i know what a normal blood pressure should be and I know that this is considered high, but is it really high? I don't know what is considered to be dangerously high.

I'm no expert, I can only tell you what mine used to be before meds. Mine was higher - as in 266/104. Hence the meds immediately. While we were working on getting the right meds and dosage, I was closer to your numbers, and the dr. Still wanted them lower. Really watch your sodium intake over the next few days and see if that makes a difference to your numbers. A combination of meds and lowering my sodium is making the difference for me. I do track the sodium macro and try not to go over 1800.

Nowadays normal BP is 110/70 - usually anything above 130/80 they put you on meds.

Tina - having a blood pressure that constantly runs a little high is very hard on your heart and blood vessels thats why its so common to treat it with drugs. You'll prevent heart damage and vessel damage by taking the drugs and prevent future heart attacks and other heart disease.

Sorry to tell you this TIna, but its time to get to a doctor, and get on blood pressure lowering medication. You had a wake-up call the other day. Time to heed it.

Tina: I hope you can get it looked at by a doctor. It sounds serious, and bp is nothing you want to mess with.

Congrats to everyone on SV and NSVs!! You all inspire me.

Skinny: I love Irish soda bread too!! I need to make it sometime.

Had another long day today, but that's the last for a while. Until next week, anyway. Realized today that my c25k app on my phone only goes up to the first 2 weeks free, then you have to pay after that. At least I have the instructions still, I'll go by that from now on. Going to run after dinner, since I didn't have time before it was done. It's a rainy, yucky day, can't wait until I can go run outside on the road.

Hi everyone! I hurt my back and was having problems getting around for the last few days. I have not read what’s going on with all of you and I miss it. I am going to have to talk Amy out of her ipad so I can read and catch up from my recliner with the heating pad and massager thingy.

I hope you all had wonderful St. Patrick’s Days! I think that may have been the first one in 30 something years I did not have a drink. I did make it to my work St. Patrick’s Day party on Friday and di have a few then.

I hope everyone is well and getting healthy!

OK so I know I haven't been here for *ages* but I did the half marathon! And I finished, and got my medal. So... new userpic, new tracker, and a progress photo. One pic is worth a thousand words, right? Thanks to everyone for all their support.

Robin is absolutely correct! The damage my constant high blood pressure did to my blood vessels is now causing ALL sort of issues. Especially with my kidneys. Permanent long term kidney issues because I ignored it for so long....and of course the STROKE that happened because I let it get too high.

Hi everyone. I had a ret weekend with the family. My husband hates corned beef and cabbage so I bought a couple while they were on sale and put them in the freezer. Instaed we did a big bbq with the whole family and had a great time. I am happy to report this whole working out thing mught have become a habit. If I dont do some kind of physical activity during the day I feel like something is really wrong  My husband and I bought some tennis rackets and balls to try out ourselves. There are courts you can use for free not far from here. We both suck but we had a great time this afternoon when we tried it out. We plan on going back tomorrow if the weather cooperates. I told him the only bad part is no one will play with me when he is gone, lol. I was going to try and do some personals tonite but halfway through this my daughter finished cooking dinner and I forgot them  She made fajitas which I added to lettue and turned into a bomb salad. She doesnt cook much but when she does it is always really good. I do remember I wanted to tell Des I love your new haircut. it is very flattering. I hope everyone had a great Monday and I will see you all tomorrow.

@tina--Based on what everyone's saying about high BP, I hope you get checked out soon. Is there any way you can at least go see a nurse at one of those walk-clinics at a Walgreens or Target? That might be a cheaper route to get a preliminary check until you can get to a doctor.

@alison--wow--so proud of you for finishing that half!! Great pics too--such a difference!

@tom--love the St. Paddy's Day get-up! Hope your back pain eases quickly. Tell Amy "sharing is caring."

    @bailey--yeah, I just used the c25k schedule on coolrunnings.com b/c I don't own a smartphone.

@kelley--sorry about your prognosis, but at least a boot is removable. When I was in HS, I had tendonitis in my achilles and had to be in a hard cast for 6 weeks--it sucked! But they didn't have "boots" back then. Wow, that makes me feel really old!

@des--congrats on nearing that "next ten"--always a great feeling!

@kris--sounds like you have a good plan to get back on track! I bet the "feeling" is, at least in part, due to bloating and will diminish quickly once you get back to healthier foods.

@susan--you are doing great! You've made so much progress even with all of the life changes you've gone through in the past year; you are an inspiration to us all! Oh, and gunner is also a rescue--couldn't love him more!

@toots--good luck with the move--I'm also curious about where you're going. Fill us all in when you have time.

@gorilla--that's a lot of Guinness!! Glad you had fun!

@holly--I usually drink way too much for this holiday, and then the next day (or 2) is always a waste. This year, I had so much grading to do on Sunday, that I didn't take an overnight bag to my friend's house. Every time someone tried to get me to do a shot, I just said "sorry, I'm driving." I managed to have only 2 captain & diets early in the evening and then drank water and diet coke the rest of the night. Of course, next week is spring break, so I'm sure I'll have at least one crazy night followed by a day of regret. Do you have any big plans for your b-day?

@hyzaarc--great job getting the scale moving in the right direction again. It sounds like it might do you and your father good to have a little break. I know I get along with my parents (especially my dad) much better NOT living with them.

    Monday Check-in:
Did ok last week with workouts and managed to get in my 3 days of core work. This week will be more of a challenge b/c I have so much grading to do. I'm at the point where I may have to forgo the gym Tues/Thurs. I know I shouldn't skip, but there are only so many hours in the day.

On a happy note, I reached the 200 miles mark in my Virtual TransAmerica trail--less than a mile from Mechum River, VA.

On Day 19 on the Hobbit journey--camping at the foot of Weathertop. On the LOTR trail, I'm on Day 12 and have reached the eastern edge of Midgewater Marshes.

    Grading Goals:
    1. 14/57 JRPs
    2. x/16 ACT practice essays
    3. 16/16 Vocab quizzes DONE
    4. x/47 AP essays
    5. x/16 Grammar tests
    6. 47/57 Gatsby journals
    7. x/47 AP journals
    8. x/57 Satirical cartoons
    9. x/57 Huck Finn analyses
    10. x/47 Yeats journals

Sat--walk gunner DONE + gym (long run) DONE
    Sun--walk gunner DONE
Mon--walk gunner NOT DONE (gross outside)+ core
    Tues--walk gunner + gym
    Wed--walk gunner + core
    Thurs--walk gunner + gym
    Fri--walk gunner

March challenges- In Like a lamb- out like a lion
    1. do core routine at least 3x week (wk 1 = 1/3) (wk 2 = 3/3)
    2. add upright rows and shoulder presses to my core routine (wk 1 = 3 sets of 15 reps each) (wk 2 = 3 sets of 15 reps each)
    3. increase hold time for planks (wk 1: regular forearm = 40 sec. and straight-arm side planks = 45 sec.) (wk 2: regular forearm = 60 sec.+ 50 sec. + 60 sec. and forearm side planks = 25 sec.+ 25 sec. + 25 sec.)
    4. increase push up reps (wk 1 = 14) (wk 2 = 15 + 15 + 15)

@Skinny what is the hobbit journey? This looks fun!

I did my c25k week 3 tonight, and it was rough! But I ran all the intervals, and stopped only a few times to drink some water. I can do it!!

    Weekly Fitness Goals:
    Monday- c25k DONE
    Tuesday- strength and planks
    Wednesday- c25k
    Thursday- strength and planks
    Friday- c25k
    Saturday- free

Allison- Congrats on the half marathon. I love the pictures they tell a fabulous story. You look awesome.

Kelly- You can still exercise with your foot in a boot. There are many exercises you can do using a stability ball for support- including weights for biceps and triceps. You can still do crunches and other upper body workouts.

I had a great weekend house sitting but I am very tired tonight. I worked out with my trainer tonight and he added in boxing tonight. I had so much fun doing that exercise. It was a great way to relive the stress from the school day.

    Workout goals for this week;
    Sunday- gym and walking dog
    Monday- gym with trainer
    Tuesday- gym or rest
    Wednesday- gym or rest
    Thursday- gym
    Friday- Rock climbing
    Saturday- pool or gym

Just a quick bump, mostly, but I do want to send congratulations to Alison on the half marathon! :flowerforyou: Such a major accomplishment! I've been good, busy, keeping on. Logging and losing a little, reading all your posts daily, though I seldom comment at this juncture. I do hope to check in more frequently once spring is upon us. Oh, that reminds me, I definitely started my March core challenge like a lamb, but have been consistent thus far and hope to roar by month's end!

@beth--good to see you're still with us! :flowerforyou:

@laurie--I wish there was a "real" boxing gym in my area where I could take boxing and kick-boxing classes. I have firends who go to some places in the city, but the suburbs have nothing. I've taken cardio kickboxing, but it's not the same. :ohwell:

@bailey--I think alison was the one who told me about it. I keep track on both the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit sites. Here are the links:

    http://home.insightbb.com/~eowynchallenge/Tools/Bag_end/bag_end.html
    http://home.insightbb.com/~eowynchallenge/Tools/Hobbit_BE_to_Rivendell/hobbit_be_to_rivendell.html

I also do the Virtual TransAmerica trail

    http://exercise.lbl.gov/index.html;jsessionid=83D1CCFC7B631A5CC7BD2E8280E5FF2A

I really like the last one b/c as long as I log my miles, I can keep track of how much I've run, walked, and cycled. I started the first of the year--can't wait to see how far I get my Dec. 31st!
