Almost Friday fitness. Been a strange week walked 20 minutes 3 days and an hour today. Saturday paddled the kayak really hard for about 45 minutes into a 20 mph wind . This week has been about learning how to eat and eliminate soft foods. Both are much harder than you would expect.
I had a huge NSV on Tuesday. I test drove a car and they kept my drivers licence. They called me and I went back for it. The salesperson I met at the door went in the back to get it and came out with one in his hand and said it wasn't mine. I looked at it, he was wrong. He got all slack jawed and said wow you've lost a lot of weight. I am also down another pant size. I can buy clothes at normal people stores now. With no elastic in the waist!!!!11 -
@pneschich Nice!1

Saturday - usually my day to catch up on sleep but I've been running since 10 am (equivalent of 5 am for me)! On the bright side I've already exceeded my goal of 4000 steps (well on the way to 6000). Exhausted but feeling pretty good.2

Today was DH bday but tomorrow we hit it again! Time to lose weight together and continue to be the fabulous married-without-kids couple we are!4

I missed last week's weigh in. I was busy moving, and didn't get weighed. Now I'm afraid to, as everyone had to keep shoving food in my face while family was down, helping with the move. Not to mention, my son had his 17th bday, and yes, there was cake!1

Bad week. Was stressed and busy with work - getting in early meant missing my morning workouts. Worth the craziness because I now get a weeks vacation and am visiting my family including my new nephew. Going to try and watch my diet and get in my steps this week then it's back to the grind next week.1 -
EarthDay Weight Challenge for Week of April 5 - ending on Sunday April 9th ...
We had 12 people weigh in out of the 26 that signed up for it but dropped out along the way. As a group we had a 0.30 lb loss over last week. ... This was a hard week that saw 6 of us gain weight, and one person joined us with their first weigh in - so no loss or gain was shown for that individual.
Two more weigh-in's and we are done ... the week of April 12 and April 19 ... Good luck ... lets see if we can't all lose 1 pound each this week!

I don't think i'm going to make my goal ARGHHH0

well, at least we lost something, and that's being a winner!2
-
Every little bit helps ... it all adds up over time ... I'd just rather see weekly losses, even two-tenths of a pound, rather than the 1 or 1-1/2 pound gains I sometimes get ... know what that is from, just still working on mastering the input control board in my brain!0

Hang in there, We'll get there in the end!2

So excited I hit my goal of 228 AND I have lost my first 30 pounds since I started in the middle of January! Celebrating by having a piece of pizza tonight! I've been missing it, but one piece still keeps me within my calories I just can't eat much else or I'll be over!
@sand86802 good for you increasing your fluid, great job, keep it up. I know I need to track and increase my fluid too but it's a real struggle for me. I have to work at it just to get to around 44 ounces, seldom make the minimum of 64 ounces. Maybe, if we do another challenge (and I hope we do) we can do weight and tracking our fluid intake because I bet we're not the only ones who need to increase their amounts!
@Nikion901 I love your turtle posting, I think I'll put that saying on my bathroom mirror for motivation!
Have a great week everyone!

Sorry I didn't do my weigh in this past week. It's been a really bad week for pain and consequently major loss of sleep. Been keeping my calorie goal pretty much but not my carb and sodium levels so my fluid retention has been poor even on diuretic days. No point in weighing until I get it under control because it really doesn't mean anything. I did manage to walk all but 700 of my step goal today but I did poorly with my water goal and at long last I had the carbs and the sodium back in range. Hoping for a better week.0

@bapcarrier : WOW! Awesome job so far. Congrats on reaching your goal!
Just checking in tonight to read the posts I've missed since last week's weigh-in (a gain for me ). This thread has been a big motivation for me in getting back with the program, even though I was so disappointed with myself for gaining last week.
One very good thing that has come out of the past few weeks for me is that I seem to be getting a bit better with avoiding "mindless eating" and emotional-type eating. One week of gaining doesn't erase that progress. I think the gain I had last week was entirely due to my decisions to eat out at a couple of favorite restaurants, and I was ok with that. I enjoyed those meals. Being honest with myself, I know that I didn't reach nearly 230 lbs by occasionally splurging at restaurants. My real issues lie with the kind of thoughtless eating that adds up, calorie by calorie, day by day. That, and somewhat compulsive over-eating when I'm stressed, tired, etc.
Here's hoping everyone is having a good week. At least where I am, spring is in full swing. The change of season has brought a tremendous positive shift to my mood and my outlook on things.4 -

@pneschich great job on your Nsv! That is amazing!!
Years ago I heard that you weren't supposed to smile for a government ID so when I was surprised that I would have to take a drivers license picture I didn't. Wow that was the worst picture ever (for many reasons) and I've hated it when I have to pull it out since. This past week I had to go into the DMV so I decided I was going to retake my picture....I didn't realize that I would have to refill out the whole form. Well it had me put down my weight, which made me look at the weight on my card, which I was now only 20lbs from. So I changed my weight on the card from 175 to 180, because who wants to put down their real weight. Now that is my new goal. I got my new license today and every time I pull it out it's going to be my reminder!! What once was a piece of plastic I hated to touch has now turned into my motivation!!

I have congestive heart failure and that causes me to retain fluid, so I have to do this very careful dance daily of balancing carbs and sodium to keep my fluid level down, It's difficult sometimes and it certainly gets old doing it day after day. Niki, I know you understand! It makes calorie counting harder. If I could just eat deli meat, cheese, a few salty things likes chips and crackers, canned foods like tomatoes and tuna I could keep the calories low without much problem but anything processed pretty much jacks the sodium up significantly. And yes I know there are low sodium varieties and sometimes I use them, but for the most part they are not very good, so I just avoid them as much as possible. I buy and cook whole fresh foods and it is tasty and delicious, but it is more work, especially when you aren't feeling well to begin with.
This past week was one of those weeks. I finally forced myself yesterday to get back to business since my pain level was down about half. I weighed yesterday morning and I was up 13 pounds. It wasn't my diuretic day but just by lowering the carbs and sodium intake, I'm down 8 pounds this morning, which is my diuretic day, so hopefully by tomorrow morning I will at least be back to where I was. If not then I might have had a small gain last week.
I'm whining a little, because it is hard and I do get tired of it, but you know what, I'm thankful that I do have controls that keep me from drowning in my own fluid or killing my heart completely trying to move all that fluid around with the blood everyday. I am thankful that I have the knowledge I need to deal with it, and a place to come and share my feelings and be accepted by people who all have their own battle going on. Every single one of you are an inspiration to me and this thread is such a positive thing in my life and I just wanted to say thanks to all of you. @RunningOnWontons I guess we have great minds, because we are thinking alike!
Sending out cyberhugs, prayers and good thoughts for the lot of you! Wishing you health, happiness and weight loss!5 -
Hi there! My name is Valerie and I just stumbled across this discussion board. I am 31 years old and a mother to two beautiful little kiddos. I am 14 months post pregnancy and 2 months post op from Thyroid removal. I have not lost any of the baby weight that I gained with my daughter. I have a goal of losing 120lbs, I am looking for friends with similar goals.2
-
@OfficiallySexyVal - Hello and welcome. You've stumbled on an amazing group here. We are all in it for the long haul. Congrats on that beautiful heavenly blessing and for being ready to shed the unhealthy weight. You will enjoy those two kiddos so much more in a healthier body and it'll be a lot easier to keep up with them!0

@campfirequeen1 - I too am back at it after suffering 2 bouts of CHF. I feel you lady, I'm struggling with it every day. Plus despite doing very well on diet and exercise I've lost nothing but water weight in the last 3 weeks. I know it will come off eventually but it's frustrating watching the daily weight fluctuate between the same 2 or 3 lbs.0

Thank you everyone for being so open about your lives and health. Sometimes I get blue and tend to cope with food. But reading your posts makes me realize if I don't loose the weight now, while I don't have health issues to add to the burden, then it will just be harder later on.
It's so strang to me how a seemingly good thing will throw me off normal and into food coping mode. My brother in law talked my husband into joining his gym. They go late night tue and Thur and super early Saturday. Then on Sunday my husband is training with coworkers for tuff mudder and going on long mountain hikes. I don't know why but the fact that he is exercising more and I'm home with the girls during the morning in the weekends and late tue and Thur really sent me into a food eating spiral. I even went over 200 for the first time this year (my goal for last year was to get to onederland by the end of the holiday season and stay there). So I guess going over 200 was the kick in the pants that I needed and reading everyone's posts I'm three days back into fully tracking, trying to get 10K steps a day, drinking more water, and now drinking apple cider vinegar (it really does suppress your appetite).
Has anyone else had a random should be positive thing send them into a downward trend??1 -

Can you go to the gym on the days your hubby does not? That way you get equal time to yourself to focus on your health. I know from experience that some husbands need a "nudge" to realize their wives need time too.
My kids are grown and on their own and we still had to negotiate about who gets to walk alone and who has to take the dog which slows you down given he stops to pee constantly. Now we split the week. Seems only fair!!

I was debating skipping reporting my weigh-in this morning and holding off until Saturday, because I want to end my EarthDay weight challenge on EarthDay's weigh-in, which will be on the next Saturday after. But ... then I figured, why not go ahead and report it? Well, I don't want to reveal that my weight has been going up a pound a day since last Wednesday ... and I don't know why it's been doing that. Yes, I have overeaten on 3 of the last 7 days; but not in the range to gain that much ... and the results have been dissapointing for the past two or three weeks ... Oh well, it's part of the mystery I experience with my weight fluctuations and I know a lot of it is based on my hormonal responses, which are triggered by more than just the food I eat.
Gosh ... that sounds like a 'cop-out' in my own head even as I write it ... 'hormonal responses', I mean. What am I doing, blaming my Diabeties on my poor nurishment choices?
I need to ask myself ... what is the difference in my food plan today than it was, say a month ago? Have I been eating more sugar, or starch, or grain in general? How much fruit have I had ... more than my 2 fruit servings a day? Less? What about my protein choices ... have they been properly prepared to remain a healthy choice? Have I eaten any candy? ... OK, have I eaten candy substitutes instead of a candy bar ... like, have I made hot chocolate; put maple syrup in my breakfast porridge; mixed up a snack of dried fruit, nuts, sweetened coconut; eaten jelly or jam with my peanut butter? If so, how often, ... and maybe more importantly ... why? What's going on?
So ... in the end, I need to be honest with myself ... and hold myself accountable, no excuses. I've been sloppy about my food, and it's time to clean that up.

Whaa-hoooo! Not sure what the heck happened at last week's weigh-in (I was up 1.2 lbs last week), but it dropped off this week, plus a little extra. Doing the happy dance over here.
This coming week, however, I will be lucky to just maintain. Easter is this weekend, and there will be lots of out-of-town company, and lots of delicious food. My Mom will be staying with us all of next week. That means I will be out of my usual routine, both in regards to food and exercise. But that's life, right? Every week is not always like every other - and we have to adapt and maintain our healthy habits as best we can. So... I'm declaring here that my goal for next Wednesday's weigh-in is to MAINTAIN at 191 lbs (+/- 2 lbs, cuz that's what I want my maintenance range to be).
Hope everyone is having a great week! Best, Birgit2 -

I made it under with a week to spare! This is honestly the first time I have been able to loose weight so consistently. Part of it is the Metformin which i am convinced is helpig very much. But I think it is mostly thanks to MFP in general and this group in particular. Calorie counting and being careful and mindful of what I eat is so much more simple (even if tedious at times with all the weighing) than before and whenever I have a down moment or feel like dropping by Wendy's after work I just have to go through this thread to realize that I am not alone wirh those issues. And all the success stories are here to show me that it IS possible, no matter your circumstances.
A funny/bitter note, today is my grandmother's birthday so I called her this morning. When she asked about what is new for me I told her about my weight loss. She was really happy for me and went on to say "if you can loose even more you will be so pretty". I know she means well and that was a compliment but that stung a little, the implication being that she doesnt think I am pretty already. It is okay though. I know she loves me no matter what.
@Nikion901 I admire you for your honesty. I am sure it was hard to face a week like that but I am sure you will turn the tables and those few extra pounds will come off.6 -

Wow, lots of wonderful stuff going on here! Congrats to all you big losers! I'm always so joyful over your success. I think this challenge has been a wonderful success! And I'm proud of you and happy for you!
@Nikion901 -Your ability to really look at your program and be brutally honest with yourself is always so inspirational to me. Not really looking is in essence choosing to believe your own lies that it isn't your fault, it because of .... fill in the blank here. You are a shining example and I'm confident that you are going to get yourself squared away with that honesty and can do attitude. How is it going with your adjustments?
@trinati2001 - Yes by all means get the weight off before poor health complicates it. You are a smart girl and I'm so happy that you are here with us and I like your introspective and enquiring mind! I've had good things throw me off too and it's very smart to use that honesty Niki has to look at it and try to figure out what will fix it for you!
@GOINSTD12 - I know you understand too! Do you log your food and do you have a goal for your carbs and sodium every day? That really helps me out a lot. As long as I work the program it works.
@MermaidPrincessRach - Just look at you girl, about to move into a whole new decade! I haven't forgotten you, hopefully by the end of the week I'll be sending you a special message!
As for my weight loss journey, this morning I got on the scale to see myself 0.2 pounds below my lowest after my diuretic day yesterday, so I lost 5.2 pounds of fluid yesterday! And truthfully I think there is still some more there I still have a little tightness in my belly, but it's probably less than a pound. So the good news is that the weekend with all my family in the mountains didn't add much if any weight. All the walking and water consumption helped to at least maintain, which is what I was hoping for.
This week the pain level is significantly less, the fatigue is better although not gone. I did manage to get three hours of deep sleep last night which is really good for me because lately I've been more like only one and a half hours of deep sleep per night, especially considering lowering my carbs back to less than 100g per day, which normally has an adverse action to sleep for me. So I will do my weigh in on Thursday or Fri as usual and see how the weight loss is going now that I'm back to a level playing field.3
