101 reasons Carbs are great and should be part of your diet

Still the only macronutrient that is optional...
Disagree. The brain REQUIRES 20g of Carbs to function. Whether you get that from fruits, veggies, or (bad for you) grains it doesn't matter....
People who adopt the 40% or higher protein diets are doing great at muscle building; but if your brain goes hungry, you lose IQ points.

I think when people say low carb they forget that most people low carbing still eat carbs they just mean they don't have a lot of bread and sugar and stuff they try to keep the carbs from veggies and fruits and nuts and stuff...
It seems based on this thread that the low carbers are the ones that forget that
I would think that low carbers could agree that carbs are great as part of their diet rather than argue that carbs aren't great while incorporating them into their diet.0 -

Without carbs, my pizza would be just a slimy, sloppy mess of cheese and pepperoni and tomato sauce. And really hard to eat without utensils.
But there's carbs in the sauce, too, so it would be just cheese and pepperoni. Which are just wonderful as a snack, but not a meal.
Think outside the box...you can make pizza crust from cauliflower and it stands up to all the topings and you can hold an eat it just like any other pizza.0 -

If anyone ever again tries to get me to eat pizza toppings on cauliflower and tells me it's called "pizza" they're gonna get a B*tchslap. No offense, but pizza has a crust. period.0 -

Give me fat.
1. Fat is a great source of energy.
2. Fat is more delicious than carbs will ever be.
Bacon > Crackers.

Agreed. Fat is what makes everything have flavor. Everyone knows that fat free food tastes horrible, mostly because they took out all the good stuff and replaced it with just more sugar.0 -

For that matter- Protein is also delicious and a good source of energy. Protein gets enough praise though so it doesn't need a thread. It's ego is getting too big already.0 -

Booyahh! Now that what I'm talking about!0 -
"carbs contain fiber" -- this is far from universally true. Most carbohydrate sources in the modern American diet contain no fiber at all, and most folks eating a typical diet are eating quite high-carb and still falling short of the fiber goal. I get 30g fiber/day at least and try to keep total carbs under 50 on most days (raspberries, greens, and psyllium).
No one recommends eating low-fiber, even the most diehard low carb folks, so that's a bit of a strawman.
It would only be a strawman if someone were argueing but in this thread were not. We're extolling the virtues of carbs not debating it. It must be a little embarrassing to miss the whole point and then post inappropriately!0 -
Still the only macronutrient that is optional...
unless you're an endurance athlete......
This.... I rode a bike 40 miles in a hair over 2 hours last night. If I do not eat carbs I cannot ride with the same intensity.
Hey, great for you! Nice accomplishment. So..... this has what to do with the subject of this thread???0 -

I think it's quite on topic for a reason why carbs are great and should be part of your diet.0 -

Whoops! My bad. Reading too fast!! I thought he said I do not eat carbs and can ride with the same intensity!! Got a little crazy for reading post by low carb advocates on a "Why Carbs are great" thread. My apologies to all I confused and especially the poster I quoted!0 -

because i am making a point to the "carbs are evil and thats why i'm fat"* crowd that there are those of us who cannot live off of stores of energy and need the yummy, delicious carbs to fuell our activities.0 -

Your right man. See my post above yours. My reading comprehension issue!0 -
Ten reasons to give it a rest harping on people who choose to eat low carb:
1. I get adequate carbs from my veggies.
2. I eat more whole, natural foods than most of the people who do not eat low carb.
3. I am healthy (including BMs) when I don't eat grain and sugar.
4. I lose weight when I don't eat grain and sugar.
5. I have no food addictions/binging when I don't eat grain and sugar.
6. I'm not hungry (unless I really am) when I don't eat grain and sugar.
7. I don't need to eat bulky meals to feel full.
9. I don't eat artificial sweeteners.
10. It's my business and it works for me.0 -
low carb is still carb, so why not talk stick to the topic and discuss how the carbs you eat are good?0

cake and ice cream are sometimes very necessary for survival of people who annoy me.

Which is all great! If you are happy, there's nothing to argue about. But tell me, what does low carb have to do with this thread?? Saying what you like about the carbs you eat I totally get. But to advocate for low carb??? I'm not against low carb. It's not for everyone but is great for some. I don't get the party crashers who come on this thread and want to say why carbs can be done without. That's not what this threads about. Those that want to discuss that should stop being disruptive and start their own thread.0 -
CARBS ARE NOT THE ENEMY!!!
Reason NUMER 1: Your brain NEEDS carbs to function properly.
No one likes a stupid lethargic person.
I'm annoyed of how uneducated some people are about food and how it serves their body.

I, too, am annoyed of how uneducated some people are about food and how it serves the body. All low carb plans include vegetables. Vegetables have carbs. All the low carb people that I know (the ones that eat healthy foods), including myself, are FULL of energy. Our bodies are designed to burn fat, when we let it. The stupid, lethargic thing you refer to was me before I quit grains, sugars, etc. And I'm thinking maybe that's you right now. Yes, I think i'm entitled to return an ignorant insult for an ignorant insult.0 -

Hooboy.... (eyeroll) If our bodies were designed to burn fat, why do we store it so easily?? Really, can't you go start your own thread somewhere and leave off with the low carb propaganda??0 -
Scurvy, beriberi, etc are not carbohydrate deficient diseases, but rather vitamin deficiencies. It is pretty trivial to get these nutrients without consuming carbohydrates.
I'm not trying to convince anyone to go on a low-carb diet. I couldn't possibly care less if you do or not. I'm just saying, while there may be 101 reasons carbs are great (I could list about 70 of my favorite foods without missing a beat I'm sure), dietary carbohydrate is *not* essential to healthy body function and therefore things like you'll be lethargic otherwise, you'll die otherwise, you'll get heart disease otherwise, etc should all *not* be on the list of 101 things.
Thanks for trying to bring some sanity and knowledge to this discussion. Good luck with that.
I was going to skip it, but I'd like to add to your comment, not that anyone will listen, that Inuit did not get scurvy, vitamin K deficiency, or beriberi. Although they had berries for about one month per year, and ate caribou stomach contents too, the main food source that fought off these ailments was marine mammal FAT. Go figure.
What low carb person out there is not getting enough carbs from veggies, and fruit (those that eat them)? I'd really love to know.0 -

I read a lot of posts before I put that. I'm annoyed by the usual "low carbers are sick and dying" mentality, when it's the exact opposite. The OP was trolling and I felt like a rant. Sue me.0 -

[/quote]
(eyeroll) Why do we store fat? Um, gee, let me think.... Perhaps so that we have stored energy to fuel our bodies when food isn't immediately available, and to protect our organs. So, today, because food is too available for some of us, we choose to OD on carbs and keep storing fat instead of using it.
The OP was trolling. Other people provided some ignorant comments about an eating plan they know little about. Yup, I generally do try to avoid these silly discussions, but sometimes I have nothing better to do than bang my head against the wall.0
