If your cheating ALL the time..well I cant help on that one

Who said anyone here cheated ALL the time? We are also gluten free (not for celiac though) and my "cheats" involved a totally stressed out day with pizza one day (made bob's red mill GF crust for the dd) and a rice cake and some tomato soup when I was sick. And I still lost 8 lb in a week and a half.

I think having special occasions that come up unexpectedly, as MaryBeth did, is not the end of the world and should not cause her to seek out another diet. Just because a few people have started over doesn't mean this isn't the diet for them.

Starting over or shrugging it off is up to her, and either option is a good one. I don't think it's time to throw in the towel because of one night.

I'm back on track today and feeling pretty good about things. I am going to start allowing myself some complex carbs in the morning. I'm soooo sick of eggs for breakfast...

By the way, thanks for all the support. It feels terrible to slip up, but I think the point of South Beach is that it's ok to cheat every now and then as long as you're not cheating more than you're dieting.

MaryBeth I am on phase 2 now also!
I started phase 2 on Sunday, and well it was a little harder than it should have been.
We went to lunch for my mom's birthday and I spent hours the night before making her an epic birthday cake with 25 roses on it. After all that work I decided to have a piece,...but just one! Other than that I have been doing good.
I have to say the best thing about phase 2 is the fruit, and thats saying a lot because you would have thought it would be the cake.
I am looking forward to Thursdays weigh in this week.

I am going to set my goals for tomorrow. To remember to drink lots of water in the MIDDLE of the day instead of chugging it in the morning and at night. and to do leg lifts and other things to work my BUTT out :D

Whoaaa, not angry, not at all. Sorry if that is how you percieved my post. Try rereading from a calm, matter of fact point of view, because that's where I was coming from. Sure, some people have had some slips, but that doesn't mean this isn't the diet for them. The average weight loss of a person on weight watchers is 10lb per year. South Beach is a great plan, it does take some getting used to though, and for some people, it may be a slower adjustment than others.

Sorry you took that as an angry reply to your words, that truly was not how I meant to come off.

I'm starting to wonder if 1000 calories is not enough to sustain my immune system. I have a small frame, and I'm only 5'1" so I should be able to do 1000 calories, in spite of what MFP says about 1200 being the bottom floor for caloric intake.

I have the worst case of strep throat I can remember having and double ear infections! This winter has been HARD on our family, as far as illnesses go, so that may also be playing in here, but so far I'm the only one sick this time. Praying nobody else comes down with it because we are supposed to be taking our little one to see a specialist a couple hundred miles away next Monday.

So, I kept my carbs low yesterday but I did have some Progresso Light Chicken Noodle Soup, and a fruit smoothie, and some vanilla ice cream. My grand total for the day was under 400 calories, so I'm not terribly upset. Today started off well, with my usual egg white, spinach and laughing cow omelet.

I can't wait to get better so I can work out!!! DH is going to teach me how to use some of the weight lifting equipment in the garage, and hopefully the treadmill will be fixed next week.

Hope everyone is having a nice week. Congrats to those of you who moved up to phase 2. I miss fruit a bit but I'm really not all that anxious to get out of phase 1. Since we don't do any kind of bread (gf bread is nasty, imo) or wheat products, I already went through the withdrawl for those things and now I don't miss them. Makes it easier when it's simply not an option. However, I could go for some baked brie and fruit compote with a nice glass of wine :)

Have any of you guys tried the South Beach BBQ sauce recipe from the Quick and Easy cookbook? I'm thinking about making it tonight to put on some salmon, but I'm a little bit wary of it...

I haven't tried that yet! You could always make a tiny recipe of it and see how it taste...

That's what I'm doing too, except instead of fruit I'm having a bowl of Ezekial cereal for breakfast every morning.

I did have a South Beach Living bar for a snack this afternoon... I bought a box for when I go on Phase 2 full time and I was really REALLY curious about how it tasted... but other than that I'm doing everything but breakfast in Phase 1.

I'm doing really, really well on the water challenges, but the getting up and moving is something that I'm struggling with. I would really like it if you posted new challenges. It helps to have little mini-goals. It makes me feel like I've accomplished something every day.
