Why don't women pay for dates?
In my country, when a man takes a woman out on a date, the woman pays for everything. The womens family usually does if she can't afford it. I like my culture. Why don't we have that in the west? I thought women have more means of making money there. Why have the man pay for your food?
I mean men here have multiple wives so its hard on our pocket. The least you can do is pick up a check...

That's my kind of country. Share all the house and man duties with the other wives.0

i'm kinda sad this thread isn't about escort services. thought it was going to be more interesting than just picking up the check...0

Because that is the minimal fee men have to pay to be graced with my presence. DUH.
But in all seriousness...
Even though you're a troll I'm going to humor you only because we just talked about this in my sociology class and I feel like sharing haha.
To put it simply, it's the same reason male peacocks try to attract females by showing off their feathers. On top of that, in our culture, whether we like it or not, Men are seen as the "providers". When they take women on a date they are showing their ability to provide.
Perhaps it's not fair but it's also not fair that a man will make more money than a woman in the same position. So stop complaining about paying for my chicken pot pie!!0 -
lol very "Borat-esque" i think i'll hazard an answer.... it comes from the gentlemanly chaps of old england who would open a door for the lady, escort her (because she needs to be? :S) then pay for her meal, it became traditional from there i guess.
there's also the fact most men will ask a woman out for a date with "can i take you out to dinner?" or similar which implies he's buying her dinner, would seem a bit odd to say "i quite like you can you buy me dinner please?" lol0 -
because they don't get paid as well so guys have to.0

Hmm...wonder what else the Meeposians have to teach us?0

because, why else would we take away from our busy schedules of being awesome to have to deal with some misogynist idiot?0

Calling BS on this one, friend.0 -
Because that's how it is in our culture. But men still have more opportunity in the US than women, we still aren't completely equal so I think that men should at least still be the ones who pay for dates. They shouldn't have everything in their favor in my opinion. But people often split the bill for dates and in relationships equally pay for dates. I would be willing to pay for dates if I was in a long term relationship but if a guy asks you out on a date for the first time I think they should be a gentleman and pay.0
-
If a guy can't go Dutch, I know it wont work out. I like to see that they are WILLING to pay the bill, but I want to split it.0

so it's mysogynistic to say a woman is EQUAL to pay as much a man? ... wow0 -
My fiancé rarely lets me pay for anything, it gets on my nerves sometimes but hey, he's a generous person.0

My husband likes to pay, which is funny because we have a joint bank account. When we were dating we took turns because we were both pretty broke.0 -
