I was born and raised in central IL, which is famous for the horseshoe sandwich. It's an open face sammie with fries and cheese sauce on top (kind of like poutine, but cheese instead of gravy). A buffalo chicken horseshoe will change your life.
I live in St Louis now, which is famous for toasted ravioli and Budweiser. Iced tea was also created here, which a lesser known fact, I think.0 -

Jumbaylia
Gumbo
to name a few. good thing I am orginially a california girl and also grew up in another state. I defintely wouldn't eat any of that stuff.0 -

Here, pigs in a blanket are sausage rolls, a sausage rolled up in a dough and baked or fried.
I'm from Oklahoma. We don't really have anything special I can think of... just a lot of fried things. A LOT.
I'm from England, to us Pigs in Blankets are party sausages wrapped in bacon then roasted...or deep fried

Use to live in Cincy, Funny Dayton was the arm pit :laugh: Cincinnati Chili (aka five way) Spaghetti, Chili, Beans, onions & cheese! Layered of course. You could ask for 2 way, 3 way or however many ways, and they knew what that meant. I am now a Texan (28 years) But still make Cincinnati Chili once a year. Other than that I am Texan all the way!! Signature food here? Well Chili is one of many, Spicy, & thick! Lot's of Mexican food. Steak, The bigger the better! Let's not forget the "Deep fried Foods" The State Fair Has a contest every year for the most tasty &The most original . There are some doozies! Deep fried "Twinkies" anyone? How about some Deep fried "Anything"?? If it is a food, Texas Has deep Fried it!!! Even if it is a liquid! Unless you live here You can't even imagine !!Dayton, Ohio while not known for a food....is where the first ice tray was patented as well as the cash register so you can buy your signature food.
An hour south in Cincinnati (Cincinasty) They have Cincinnati style Chili which has beans, uses some cinnamon, and is put over spaghetti noodles.0 -
I'm from Massachusetts..Fluffanutter sandwiches and new england clam chowder. We also have these hot dog rolls that are unique to New England. The first time I had a hot dog outside of my area, I was mortified with the bun. This is the ONLY way to enjoy a hot dog!
I lived in Salt Lake City for 8 years.... Funeral potatoes (these cheesy potatoes with cream of chicken soup and sour cream topped with butter toasted corn flakes)
When I was in Lebanon, our signature food was Hummus, falafel, tabouleh and French Fries... sometimes all wrapped up in the same sandwich. I've never ever sat down to a meal in Lebanon without french fries on the table!
I'm currently living in Harrisburg... Hot Bologna. It's a bar food and it's big there.0 -
Unfortunately, nothing too sophisticated here as I'm a Northern (England) bird. Our delicacies are:
Pie on a buttie (sandwich) with some nice chips from the chippy
Or if you just want a snack, grab a pastie
Lobbies or 'Scouse' if you're feeling posh (it's just a stew)

Funny story though about “Pigs in a Blanket” My cousin is who is from Pittsburgh moved to MO and married a girl out there. He told her one day that he was really craving Pigs in a Blanket and she told him she would make him some. All day at work he was salivating over the thought of having some Pigs when he got home; however, when he got home, this is what was before him:

He was like, WTF is this??!!! She said Pigs in a Blanket .. hahaha. That term is used for different things, but for us in Da Burgh, it will always be:
Plus another thing invented in Pittsburgh - Strawberry Pretzel Jello Salad! So yummy! Didn’t realize this was a Pittsburgh thing until I saw a show on TV. We always have this dessert at picnics and potluck dinners.

Syracuse, NY...we are home to salt potatoes. This is no ordinary potato cooked in salt. These baby spuds are boiled to perfection in copiously salted water (we're talked a cup of salt at least) and slathered in melted butter. Sooooo yummy! And lest we forget...the original Dinosaur BBQ is in Syracuse too.0

we are the home of sour dough bread. maybe the rest of the country doesnt get the good stuff and thats why its not such a big deal, but seriously, sour dough bread is awesome.
and we have dungeness crab! best crab there is.
and its said, a bar in one of our suburbs, martinez, created the martini.
and like others have said, we have the "its-it" a cookie ice cream creation consisting of two oatmeal cookies with ice cream squished between them covered in chocolate, oh yes, its that good. if you're ever in the area i would try the mint one, delish!0 -
Albuquerque...New Mexican Restaurant on just about every corner...everyone has their own personal favorites. Food is awesome...but will cost you plenty in the calorie department. On average...if you ate an entire entree, including the complimentary chips and salsa, you're looking at roughly 1,000 - 1,300 calories...that doesn't even include the margaritas. Some examples:
Stuffed Sopaipillas
Chile Rellenos
Enchiladas (w/fried egg)
....and so much more yummyness....

OH, Indiana!! Grew up there... Can you say " Breaded Cheeseburger" ??? Damn!!!! Now I want one!! Never found them any where but there!
Indiana's not so healthy contribution, lol. But, oh so delicious. The pork tenderloin sandwich. You can get them grilled, which is what I do now.0 -
We have lots of yummy wild (not farmed) salmon, even better is steelhead (hatchery, not wild since wild is endangered because it is so tasty!) They look like Salmon, but they are actually Trout that go and live in the ocean and get as big as Salmon. Yum!

The city I grew up in has Persains... Not sure if anyone knows what they are lol, but they are a cinnamon bun(and a huge one) covered with fresh fruit icing...omg so good0

In Kansas City, Missouri, we are all about the BBQ! In addition to annual events, there are BBQ tours available which include the history of BBQ.
This is my personal favorite: (especially their beer-battered onion rings as a side to their chicken.
