my hubby paying me to lose weight

My hubby gave me a great incentive to lose weight. He said he would pay me for every pound i lost. 1-10 pounds $10 a pound. 11-20 pounds $15 a pound..21-30 pounds $20 a pound. Anything over 30 pounds $25 a pound. I need to lose 42 pounds. Gained the majority of the weight when i quit smoking. I can do this !!!'0

I have mixed feelings about it. If the husband is genuinely doing this as an incentive to lose weight - a bit of fun and a reward - then that's ok.
If, on the other hand, he is doing this because HE is unhappy/embarrassed/uncomfortable with his wife's weight/the way she looks - then I would be really concerned by that.
Yeah, this.
Not something I'd be comfy with, but it's not my home.0 -
this is the best incentive for someone to lose weight!
you can always substitute the money with a car holiday etc!
I am not at this stage where I need this as I love being healthy fit etc but I am going to tell my friend this to encourage his!0 -
I don't find it creepy at all.
BTW even some married couples choose to have separate accounts.
There's a whole lot of judgmental people on here who like to get on a soapbox and think their relationship is so much better than someone else's
OP...good for you, and enjoy spending that money on new clothes when you get to your goal :drinker:
I agree with all of the above! My husband and I have separate accounts (plus a business account). It works for us. People can judge all they want, but I have a loving and supportive marriage and wouldn't change a thing.
Good luck OP!0 -
I can get $$ anytime I want, so it seems odd to me??? Is it like an allowance? Do you work?0
-
Really? First of all, when you're married it should be joint funds. Second, you will need at least that just to buy a new wardrobe.
Why, because you say so?0 -

i dont see why anyone thinks they have the right to judge another household (unless they are a hoarder)0 -
Now to your point, my husband surprised me with an ipad mini a few months ago (no particular reason other than I had said I wanted one) and yes I'm aware that it's "our" money, but once again it was the gesture. I'm a tightwad and won't spend money on myself so my husband took matters into his own hands and went out and bought it.
So did it ever occur to you that perhaps the OP is a "tightwad" and her husband, in the course of her explaining her weight goals, said that he'd like to set aside some cash as she loses so that she can treat herself without guilt to a new wardrobe? We don't ALWAYS have to look for the ugly in every scenario.0 -
I wish my boyfriend had money to give me as an incentive. Alas, I control his money already and I make more than him.
Whatever works is great!0 -
Am I really the only one who finds this creepy?
I was thinking the same thing, but then again I pay for everything on my own all the time, so I was completely caught off guard. lol0 -

I kinda wish I had a boyfriend tonight, money or no money. HAHAHAHHAHA!!!0 -
I had a friend suggest that if I get down to 120 pounds, then I would get a cash incentive. If I didn't get down to that weight, I owed dinner at the casino buffet.0

I think everyone who is going on about how creepy this is is taking it waaaaaaay too seriously. It sounds to me like just a bit of silly fun. Her husband is giving her, what, $24 or $30? Depending upon their income that is not money either of them would miss. Its an entree and a drink a restaurant for one person, or a few new shirts depending on where you shop. Its like my husband telling me 'hahahaha i'll bet you $5 I can get to the top of that hill/some candidate will win some race/some other thing will happen'.
Chill, everyone.0 -

I'm not sure if you're speaking about the folks talking about how kinda creepy it is, because honestly it is, my money and his money is our money in my marriage. However, I can see it motivating to lose weight, "Oh I can make an extra $10.00 to go buy those cute yoga pants if I lose 10 lbs, or whatever, it depends on how it was offered. I think I'd be a bit offended if my husband offered to pay me to lose weight though, his mom though, yeah she I expected it from. Now if the story went like she wanted to lose weight and kept on hassling him about it and ranting to him about wanting to lose weight, and he says "Tell you what, if this will motivate you, you can have this amount of money for spending if you lose this amount of weight and so on." That would be different, I mean after all, I kept ranting to him about it, and he is just trying to help me. In a guys mind I would assume he would just think he's helping.0 -
That's generous of him! I wish my hubby would pay me for each pound, but our budget is tight. We are treating ourselves though for motivation. Last week I got a pair of hand weights.
Next week, I plan to buy a scale and see how much we've lost! We've been judging by how loose our pants are. haha.0 -
....I dont know how I feel about this.0

I think it's great!!! And don't worry about the negative people, they won't be on your shopping trip at the end!! Go for it. Xx0

Actually I find this offensive. My boyfriend would in real trouble if he even tried to offer something like that.0 -
My DP is offering incentives in the form of a few new tops or a new dress from my current fav shop each time I go down a size. Mind you some money for each kg? That would be nice too!0

Had the page saved from last night and couldn't figure out where everyone was...haha.
Good Morning to all,
Because I don't like to share my peaceful space as much as my exercise equipment during my time, I was up at 5 and am done with the treadmill. HAH!
Have to get my boy up and ready for school. Can't wait to feel the below zero temps. Mornings like this when I miss living in Florida. Thankful for down.
Catch up with ya'll in a bit.

I hope all you women doing this also have the hubby losing weight or not if he's already in shape.0

Lucky you.0

Just wanted to say I don't find this creepy but then my husband and I don't share money (what? No joint funds/accounts? Scandalous!) I give him money for my part of the bills and we occasionally split the bill when we go out but beyond that his money is his and mine is mine. So if he gave me money for losing weight well...extra bonus cash is always nice.
That's just my household though.0 -

How dare you everyone's household must be run the exact same, to deviate from this will probably bring about the apocalypse.0 -

God forbid someone run their household different from the way you run yours. I find it sad that you think it would be better if she nagged him into it.0
