Wednesday Wish - to have a really successful month.
It was absolutely gorgeous here yesterday. I drove home from work with my roof open and windows cracked open. I was hoping Brian would be home when I got home because I was going to suggest going out for a walk. He wasn't so I decided to prep dinner and get that started. I don't know why I didn't just go by myself around the development when I got home. In hindsight I should have seized the opportunity.
Robin - thanks so much. That was really sweet of you to say. I am still a Gilad, workout at home kind of gal. But I am enjoying getting outside in the fresh air. Once I get a little bit better with running I want to start riding my bike too. I really liked Brian's suggestion of riding to the park on running days. I am the type of person though who has to focus on one thing at a time. So I won't be doing that any time soon.
One thing I certainly have learned during this process is anything is possible. I never imagined when starting this journey that my life and habits would change so much in a short period of time. When I think about it, it really blows my mind. I still have a long way to go until I reach my ultimate goals and my journey certainly isn't perfect. But I am pleased with my progress so far.
Ushkii- wahoo on the planting. You will like having cilantro. I love having fresh herbs for cooking. I still have a few pepper seeds (spicy ones) that I have to start. I plan on planting them this week. All the seeds I planted so far are growing very nicely! I can't wait to get outside and prep the garden.
Jenn - I know exactly what you mean when you say this group makes you realize you are not alone. I felt the exact same way when I first started out. While Brian is super supportive he cannot related like everyone in this thread can. This group is a true blessing.
Hansea - that stinks about the laptop. If it makes you feel better, I spilled coffee on mine this past weekend and shorted out the keyboard. Brian found a replacement one which I ordered. In the meantime he plugged in an external keyboard to see if the whole thing was fried. It seems like everything is working. Keeping my fingers crossed the new keyboard works when it arrives.

Josie- sorry to hear you couldn't get into your gym. That certainly is frustrating. Hopefully you. Don't have that problem again.
RobinB- funny you said that about Fit it. I was wondering actually how this may change my stats. Even though I worked out 6 days a week and always wore Fit it I always felt my steps were low. Sounds like you had a fantastic workout with your son!
Tayna- I have difficulty with jumping jacks as well. Gilad has a section of them in one of his cardio routines and it exhausts me. I refer to that workout as the dreaded one. Though sticking with it I have gotten much better at it. It still exhausts me though. :grumble:
Laurie- I thought about that as well. I am going to shut off the other apps from running in the background to see if that helps. It was weird though because when I plugged it in the second time it showed at least 50% battery. Apple recently released an update so I downloaded that yesterday as well. I have not seen any updates from the app developers yet. I asked in the forums yesterday and someone else had the same problem as well.
Just think, testing is almost done. I am really glad I don't have to deal with the testing aspect with my students. I really don't envy you there.

@RobinB - I grew up south of you in Coral Gables. I too was born Pittsburgh, but moved south as a baby. I lived in Coral Gables until my senior year of HS when I moved to Charlotte NC. I've been here for almost 39 years. I loved growing up in FLA, but now can't imagine living without the change of seasons.
@hansea - Jealous on the sleep. I sometimes have issues with sleep and especially when the time changes. It messes me up for a good week or so in the Fall and the Spring.
@josie - Welcome! You've found a great place for support and inspiration.
@skinnyjeanz - Hope your headache is gone and you're feeling better. Your shoes are a veritable rainbow. I need some new lighter ones for the gym and I think I'll channel you and pick out some colorful ones.
@lauriek - Thanks for the perspective. I sometimes forget where I was just 9 months ago, how far I have come and how much better I feel.
@sinvand - I can relate to the emotional eating. I ate when I was bored or sad or tired or whenever I needed comfort. I can tell you that the more you break out of that cycle, the easier it becomes. I've found that pre-logging my day the night before is very helpful. That way I don't have to think or make decisions when I'm having a bad day and can just refer to my plan.
AFM, another cold, rainy day here. Yesterday was in the high 70s and just a Spring teaser. Can't wait for the real thing!

@Karen~I’ve had a headache for a couple of days and am tired too, I think its our bodies adjusting to DST. I’ve been coming to work crazy early and working really long days to get everything done, it’s just brutal – but I see nap in my future on Saturday (i.e. 3-1/2 hour flight ).
@Damensha and other newlings~It can be overwhelming at times to keep up with the posts, just respond when you can and don’t feel like you need to respond to everyone at once. Good luck with your doctor’s appt – hope you have fabulous lab results!
@hansea~Way to go – biking to the gym and then working out. I hope the loss sticks!
@Josie~Glad you were able to make it the gym after your chiro appointment, it’s frustrating when you really want to go but the schedule doesn’t allow for it.
@rain~I’m sorry you felt ill during your run last night, that’s happened to me before and its usually the result of eating something too heavy beforehand. I hope that’s all it was and you aren’t coming down with something. Kudos for pushing through it.
@Nettie~It was gorgeous here yesterday too, high was 86 – of course today’s high is in the 50s. Crazy weather! There was another iPhone update pushed out on Monday, if you updated your software you might update the app again (if you don't have yours set up to update apps automatically behind the scenes). Do you clear out the apps running in the background? That can really bog down the performance of the phone and run down the battery fast.

I'm back after a long absence due to work, school, and travelling. Unfortunately, I've gained back everything I lost and then some. I signed up for WW Online as well as restarting MFP. This week is spring break and I've managed a loss of 2lbs so far. just by eating when I'm hungry and walking around outside.
My Wednesday wish?
Simply to not slip backwards to my heaviest weight of 275.

Wed. Wish: that the weather would get warmer and we would have some spring weather. Yesterday, was gorgeous! Sunny and warm.(above freezing). Today, we are in a blizzard...and getting a lot of snow..temperatures are dropping fast and it's going to be really cold again. I'm stuck in the house, too treacherous to drive, so I'm doing 'bills'..."sigh"...
Diet wise, I'm taking this time to make my new 'plan of attack' for eating the next few days. I had planned on taking my young, grandson bowling, but can't get to his house. The weather never cooperates on Wednesday here...it's strange!0 -
Good morning.
Yesterday turned into a rest day. I am sore and I have to lift again tonight. My legs hurt going down stairs and my upper body hurts all over. I hurt more today than yesterday. Tonight I will try to lift again. I may have started too much at once. I am going to try and work on the strength training but ease off the cardio. The flexibility would have been pretty easy if I was not so sore.

wednesday wish- CONSISTENCY!!!
went to see the specialist at Health Canada for an assessment to return to work. she was not optomistic as she feels i am too depressed and have chronic pain. Although i am a nurse where i was working did not involve any real physical work so i dont thing it would be a problem. I told her i have worked for a long time with pain and learned that i can do whatever i have to do. Gotta wait and see what the cardiologist has to say on friday. Tried to walk yesterday but was too short of breath so i only managed 20 minutes. Gonna try again today cause it is so nice outside.
If i am able to return to work that will mean i am not able to see my grandkids very much as they live in the next province but i would have less financial stress so i am torn between trying to return or not. If i return i have to be able to work 2 jobs lik i did before with no possibility of needing time off for the next 7 years. Who can guarantee that??? what to do, what to do....

Just jumping on before I finally hit the hay today and before I'm too loopy to make sense... My Dr's appt. went swimmingly well except for the part where I needed to pee on demand for a protein dip. I got a ^5 for the weight loss since my last visit, and I think she was a little amazed that her "stubborn child" of a patient was finally doing right. I can't believe that I had to talk her into doing labs today after she hem-hawed around about it. Asking for Lab Work???? Good Grief I think I've gone a little crazy! :bigsmile: I really just want to know if what I'm doing is actually helping things at all. And, of course, I then got a warning that even if the numbers were better, that wasn't reason to stop doing what I was doing. Well Duh! :noway: I must be feeling a little bulletproof because Hubby and I went to our favorite Chinese restaurant for lunch. After logging as closely as I can figure, I didn't do too terribly considering that I skipped breakfast. Sodium is going to kick me in the shins today though. I think it's going to be a big old salad for dinner tonight with as little dressing as possible to balance it out. OH and the thirty or so laps around the office I did trying to "work up a specimen" got me some exercise time in too! Yay!
I'll try to catch up on what everyone's doing when I'm up from my nap since I just got to glance at the highlights this time.
My Wednesday wish is for my numbers to come back better than before, and that I suddenly wake up one morning looking as good as I feel right now. Wouldn't that be Awesome?!?!

Wednesday Wish... pain relief. Really struggling right now with chronic pain in my ankle and shin, and a hip injury that just happened this week. I am trying to push through it all, don't want to take a break, but I know I'm not doing myself any favours. I am on my feet for 5 hrs/day in my job and these days it's hard enough to do that, let alone the intentional exercise. I'm icing frequently and will take tomorrow completely off, in hopes that things will heal up a bit.0

Hello everyone. My Wednesday wish is that everyone suffering with illness or pain starts to feel better. The start of this week was a little rough but is smoothing out now. We are having beautiful weather and I went out and took the dogs for a walk. Went a little different then usual and incorporated some hills. My breathing still doesnt like them but I am able to keep going now as long as I take it slowly on the uphill part. Hopefully we will be able to go shoot hoops this evening. I like to get the burn up around a thousand if I can:bigsmile: Well I cant do personals since it is almost time to go get my neice and nephew from school. KNow that as always I am super proud of every one of you.:flowerforyou: :drinker:

Hello everyone.
Wed wish: That I can finish my work today and ease into a relaxing spring break.
School is killing me these next few days, and I'm sorting through financial aid paperwork as well. My lower back has been extremely stiff for the last three weeks, and I keep telling myself it will go away. I think part of it may be from starting to run more, but I assumed that it would get better as I improved. No such luck! No amount of back twists have helped either.
Still muddling through maintaining my health while having my friend here. I've been eating a bit into my exercise calories, but I'm telling myself that's okay as it's a temporary solution and I'm not bingeing with her on snacks as I would have done in the past.

Just popping in and reading. I ate German chocolate cake and chocolate frosting bits during my baking today. That was my lunch. Blech. Now I'm working the evening shift at the clinic and feeling a little ill.
I'm glad some others were able to enjoy the nice weather that blew through. I hope this cold stuff blows out of here fast, too!0 -
I'm tired and sore. I think the time change is affecting me and my sleep. It usually takes me a full week to adapt. Work was awful today, out in the snow storm. Everything is white and it's so hard to see curbs and around snow banks, not to mention having to keep stopping to clear my windows and outside mirrors all the time. Two people almost walked right in front of my car... neither of them even LOOKED before they stepped off the curb. They were darn lucky that I saw them. Seriously, some adults have less brains than children!
I'm still sore in the upper arms, shoulders and chest from yesterday's physio. My hip flexors are still quite sore from Sunday so I hope it won't hurt too bad tomorrow, I'm due for lower body workout. (did a 4 min interval workout of mountain climbers on Sunday- called Tabata... not quite up to the intensity level but it still made me want to die).
This latest snow storm is really depressing me, going from 8C yesterday to 20cm of snow today. I don't know how much more of this winter I can take. I didn't even bother to shovel my driveway again tonight, I just cleared the steps and made a path to my car when I got home from work... which is well covered with snow again.:grumble:0 -
So, I've tried doing the weight loss thing many times but I get easily distracted and I give up.... However, next Monday will be two years since my father died. He had over 25 mini strokes and a Massive heart attack finally ended his suffering. I knew at that moment I had to change my life. I stopped smoking right after he started having these strokes but after he died I fell into a bit of a depression.... Here lately though I feel motivated all of a sudden. I'm still having issues with my Food. I admit that! A few months back I started wearing a pedometer daily. I noticed I was only getting in about 7,000 steps a day... So I was determined to improve and I have slowly built it up. I have really bad hips and some days it's difficult. Since it's warming up a bit my daughter and I have started taking walks in the evening and today I hit a High and I was so excited I think i'm even more motivated now.... I walked 15,510 steps today. 11. 75 miles... I'm looking forward to getting to know the people here and I'm always looking for new friends who will keep me in line!0

rain-Are you running a 5K everyday? If you are then you will want to take a few days offs to recover and give your muscles time to heal. Are you using a training program? On days you are not running, then you can do a cross training exercise to help build muscle strength and endurance. Not sure if I read your post correctly. An exercise for the back, lay on your back and pull your legs up and wrap your arms around them. Then you can roll side to side to help work out the stiffness in your lower back. You can also try rolling back and forth to see if that helps.

Well the winter weather has returned to my area as well. It was almost 70 degrees today and now the temps are dropping into the low 20's with wind chill's in the teens to single's numbers for feel like temp. There is a chance of snow tonight as well in addition to heavy down pours of rain. The winds are blowing with gusts in the 50 mph and higher range.
The second round of testing is done and it went pretty well today. The worst part was the afternoon of teaching without any breaks. Tomorrow, will be a normal day. I ended up working late today but at least my lesson plans for the next three days are done and papers are copied. Tomorrow, I can focus on 7th grade and a few other things so that is a relief.
Wish- All of us that are dealing with lack of sleep due to Daylight Saving's time, are able to adjust quickly. I am looking forward to getting caught up on sleep or at least back to a normal schedule.

@laurie--glad you made it through testing. Ours is coming up in April. We are getting the same roller-coaster ride with the weather. It was gorgeous on Monday and then we got a snowstorm last night with very cold temps tonight. It will be up and down for the next week, but at least we are getting some days around 50 F.

@tanya--we also decided not to shovel this round of snow--good thing too, as most of the new stuff was melted by the afternoon sunshine.
@hansea--Ugh--I've had those days--on the bright side it shows how much healthier you've been that the junk food makes you feel blech.
@rain--I agree with laurie that running a 5k every day is quite stressful as you are still building your running muscles. Even marathoners take rest days. Take a day or 2 off in between your runs and I bet you will see much bigger gains in endurance and speed. Great job keeping the food under control while your friend visits! :drinker:

@L2T--thanks, the headache seems to have finally subsided. I've always loved my shoes. The funny thing is that now even when I go shopping for other types of shoes, I always want runners! My husband laughs, and somehow he seems more accepting of my need to spend money on running shoes vs. "another" pair of cute sandals. :laugh:
@nettie--The Dirty Girl Mud Run which I did the past 2 years had a couple of those inflatable obstacles last year, and they were really fun! It's not coming to my area, but I would say go for it, if will be near you. I found myself taking my own advice as I was running outside today. I kept stopping to walk where it was snowy or icy, but then I realized it was just as safe to run slowly, so I made myself keep running. :laugh:

My colleagues and I started a 30-day challenge today. We each pick a behavior to do every day for 30 days (sound familiar? ) and we will help keep each other accountable. I decided to make mine a running challenge since I've been inconsistent lately. My goal is to do a minimum 20-minute run or brisk walk every day with a minimum of 3 runs/week. We are wearing those colored bracelets (think Livestrong) as a visual motivator/reward. We start with it on our left wrist and keep it there everyday we meet the goal. If we miss a day, we move it to our right wrist for the next day. After 10 days straight on the left wrist we get to switch to a new color, and after 20 days a 3rd color. So my wish is to meet this new challenge. I'm off to a good start having run for 25 minutes outside with gunner this afternoon.
Tomorrow I have another late meeting, so I plan to walk some circuits around the HS for 20 minutes during my 9th period open.
March Challenge:
1. 1/4 weeks--Share a new recipe
2. 10/31--Eat a veggie/ salad every day.
3. 12/31--Water goal 12 cups/day

My wish is that my Mom gets stronger and is able to get around better. She had knee surgery in January and had been at a nursing rehab center for the last 6 weeks. She is now home ( alone). She only lives a mile away so it is easy to check on her. I wish I could get her to eat. She hardly eats anything because she doesn't feel hungry (I should be so lucky). Physical therapist comes tomorrow and gardeners and pay her bills. I will probably be there most of the day
I've been doing OK with my calorie intake. Not necessarily good food choices. I don't do well with all this stress. I was able to garden for a couple hours. It is my salvation.
I wish everyone would get well. I wish everyone's winter would be over.
I wish I was better at responding to everyone's comments. I do read and catch up every night even if I don't write.

@ischial - consistent motivation can be a tough one! I find that the longer I do something, the easier it is to stay motivated to do it. I guess it's the whole "it takes 21 days to make a habit" thing. I feel ya, it can be really hard and I have done my fair share of giving up and starting over months later!
@jtconst - good weather makes such a difference, doesn't it? Says the one in the middle of yet another winter storm! I find hills very difficult, lung wise. Even when the rest of my body is very strong and my legs don't even feel the hills, my lungs are the first to crap out on me every time!
@rainandwood - definitely ok to eat some of your exercise calories! Well done at staying on track while your friend is visiting.

@apeydawn - I understand about your dad, Tuesday will be 4 years since mine passed away, also from heart-related issues. He's my motivation for getting healthy. I also know how difficult these anniversaries can be.

Thursday Truth - well, my confession is that my "rest" day started with Jillian Michaels' yoga meltdown. I was careful, though, and didn't do anything that hurt a lot. I just couldn't stand not burning a few calories in some way. Staying away from the kettlebell and walking today though, so hopefully by tonight I'll see a difference in my pain level. Also, confession that with my weight loss going so slowly, it is really hard to keep my committment to not drink my way through this difficult time of year. I have done well so far, but it's getting harder by the day. Trying to focus on my trip next Thursday, which helps some.0 -
Not much to report today other than a continued lack of sleep (thanks daylight saving time). I wish my body clock would hurry up and adjust! The weather has returned to winter, but I think the weekend will be warmer. To be honest, I'm not looking forward to the weekend. DH and I will be doing our taxes. Yuck. I dread it and am hoping we at least break even and don't have a big tax bill due. I know I'll feel better when it's done. I hate living with the dread.

Thursday truth: today is FREEZING (-30 with wind chill) . Our snow is renewed and looks beautiful! I believe we got about 30 cm., and with the weather like it is, I don't see it melting any time soon. It's pretty, but wish I was somewhere warmer...like Florida!
This reminds me of the winters I had as a kid...they were long.

Thursday truth. I really like Gordon Ramsey and am super excited for the new season of Hell's Kitchen to begin tonight. I love all the drama and yelling on the show. For some reason I find it very entertaining. :blushing:
It's official, I have now lost the same amount of weight as I lost my first time on MFP!!! I weighed in at 222.2. I did see a lower weight yesterday by a little less than a pound. I know good things are coming! So far March is turning out to be a good month. I went for my last run of the. Week yesterday morning. It was tough but I did it. I decided I am going to keep repeating week 1 until I am able to run the entire 60 seconds for every interval. I felt really good after completing it yesterday. My legs aren't as sore anymore!

kAH - Yesterday, the app was acting a bit weird. I don't know if it was because my music was playing through the app or what but I didn't hear it signal to run and walk 1x. Then at the end it didn't give me the option to sync with MFP. But at least I didn't have any issues with it shutting down my phone. \
Are you getting excited for your cruise? You are going to have such a great time!
Hyzzarc - welcome back! I left MFP for a while then returned. I found it was easier my second time here. I attribute this to already knowing what I needed to do.
Mnwalking - Thanks. I am going to ask my doctor about it next time I go to him.
Karen - That is insane that you have to guarantee not needing any time off for the next 7 years. Why is that? That seems very unrealistic of them to ask that kind of commitment of you. \
Skinny - I sent that link to my cousin. She has recently gotten back into running and we plan on eventually doing a 5K together. I am not sure if we will do that one or not but it looked really fun! I am glad to hear that you took your own advice and went outside for a run. Two thumbs up for you!

Am I too late to join? I so want to lose weight. I turned 40 three weeks ago, was just diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, and need to lose 75 lbs. I am mother of 4 (10 year old daughter is a cancer survivor--can you say stress?), Substitute teacher, full time grad school student, and pastor's wife. I have lots on my plate, but definitely need to lose the weight.
I've lost 4 lbs. since I started this journey, but really would love to have some place to check in and get some encouragement. I love the idea of checking in every day with something different.
My THURSDAY TRUTH would be that I really love food and really don't want to do any work to lose the weight. I just want it to magically disappear.
I'd love to get to know you all better and applaud your successes in this journey.
