Maurice Clarett's 1rm was around 405 and he could barely hit 225X20

Isn't the 225 rep max one of the Combine stat?

Yes. That's why I thought I test it.

225 is NFL combine, 185 is NBA combine.
Thanks for the information. I didn't play sports in HS, I skated and snowboarded.

interested to see how you do. Looks like I could play in the NBA then (if I was like 2 foot taller lol)

NBA players have significantly longer arms so they don't have good leverage to do a high weight bench press. Monta Ellis and Kevin Durant are two super star talents that can't bench 185 even once.

Thanks, no way I'd hit 225x20 then.

When I last benched 275 my 225 was about 8 or 9 on my 3rd set of the pyramid on rep workouts. If you can do 225 I tip my hat to you! :D

    Thanks for that.

Actually, coming off this high volume program may be a good time to test it after all.

What are we looking for here? The average woman on the street probably would have a hard time doing 65lbs for 8-10 reps. Or are you thinking the average regular weight lifting woman? I could do 8-10 reps at probably 95lbs, but I think I'm slightly stronger on bench then most. 135 is an eventual 1-rep goal of mine.

Well, I wanted to be inclusive and I didn't want this thread to be just about the boys and I just, well, randomly picked 135#s. :)

To be a member of the long arms club, how long does one's arms need to be?

For me I always found that what I could bench for 10 reps I could always add 75lbs and hit it for one...

I wish this was true for me.

Me too. It's probably not that far off but I can do 185lbs for 10 but I certainly can't max at 260lbs.

I can only rep 225lbs for about 3. LOL. My bench sucks

185x10 for me did not equal doing anything 225 before.

That's odd. What is your 1 rep max?

Now it is more its at 245 but I can also do 195x10. Those calculators always are not on for me. Makes no sense.

225 was a big obstacle for me to get through.
    *kitten* I wish.

    I can move 245 once.
185x10 though? I think I'm maxing with that somewhere around 6 or 7, I will drop rep 8 on me. This is why bench pisses me off.

I appreciate that... however, nope its not an injury -- well not a recent injury (an older one sorta) -- which is partly to blame for that.

I've got this knee thing (Osgood Slaughter) that pains me (still does) and scared me from quad training for many years. I should squat with my arms.

When I was a young buck, the only training method I knew was a linear method. Did that for years. (We're talking 1990 - 2000 or thereabouts.) Every week I'd go for a new PR on the bench. Meet it, raise it by 10 pounds. Those 2.5 pound plates was a surrender to me.

At one time I was benching 245 for four sets of 8.

I am way too old and decrepit to do that now. Maybe.

Which is another reason why again I am intrigued to try this out.

Read up on it, that sucks. Sorry.

Again thanks... but really I have only myself to blame.

I really got into a comfort zone back then and didn't want to learn how to train through the pain, but this time around I committed myself to squatting. My numbers aren't very impressive, but I have my form dead-nuts and the weight I can move does makes me happy.

At least I am not "partial guy" at the gym who winks his knees and calls it day at the same weight.

Hmm my max in recent history was about 275 so I'm gonna guess you get 225x6-7 (that's what I did at the time). Good luck. Going for 300 in about a month, wish me luck too.

Despite the fact that I can go for reps at 60kg, I think this thread is just a bit too douchey for me.

What an odd post, talking about bench press in the Fitness&Exercise forum is douchey? This is the least douchey thread I've read all day. Weird.

You think that's bad? My DL is about 200lbs better than my squat.
