A Big (((Thank you))) to all. Really helped to make this day special.
@Rozie 1019 - My nephew bought all his weights on Craigslist for pennies on the dollar. The Play it Again in our area charges $1.00/pound for free weights.
@Scrubb816 - This terrible moment is just that, a moment. Tomorrow will be better. The next day even better. My youngest got 7 teeth in 10 days. We all managed to live through it.
Love to all,
Lori0 -
Hi guys! Just a few personals tonight:
@lori--congrats on 100 lbs lost!! I'm doing a happy dance for you!!
@susan--good to see you pop in, girlfriend!
@kelley--Ouch about the fence. Gunner has given me a few bumps and bruises over the years under similar circumstances.
Tuesday Goal:
To make the next 2 days as productive as today. I got most of my AP essays done while my students took their finals. Tomorrow I give 2 more finals and 1 on Thursday. I will definitely finish all of the essays tomorrow and hopefully all of the analysis activities as well. That will leave Thursday for the journals and conference write-ups. It would be nice to go into the weekend without much grading.
We had a meeting after school and one of the teacher groups provided pizza and salad. I had a bit of salad and 2 small squares of the thin crust pepperoni. Then someone pointed out that there was a veggie pizza as well. When I opened the box, I saw it was rising crust pizza cut into VERY large wedges. I found a plastic knife and cut one of those babies right in half. The calories in my food diary are just estimates of course, but I bet they are close. Regardless, I made a smart choice by refusing to take one of those humongous pieces (which I surely would have eaten in its entirety if it was on my plate).
No exercise today due to the late meeting. Will probably hit the gym tomorrow after school.

Lori- Cblue- Congrats on the 100 pounds lost.
Welcome to all the new people.
Karen- I agree, I tend to eat out of boredom as well and that should also be a type of eating behavior.
Here are articles that support the social eating that I mention yesterday. Both very good and they make sense.

Thanks for all the support in the swim meet, I am looking forward to the official times being posted.
I have spent much of tonight talking to friends via facebook so I did not get much work done. Oh well, that means more to do tomorrow night.
Goal- To workout at least 3 more times this week.

@Tom - Every day is cheese day here. I sprinkled mozzarella on my bean soup at lunch today...yum!
@Lori - Huge congratulations on the big 1-0h-0h! You are awesome.
@Susan - Hi! Hang in there.
@Rozie - So sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. Craigslist, a used sporting goods store, or sometimes you get lucky at Goodwill are all places to check for weights. You could even use things from around your house....like a couple of cans of soup to hold onto while you do bicep curls or tricep extensions.

You guys, Aunt Flo is being a beyotch this month. I ate stupid today and my emotions were all over the place. Bleh. Going to bed early with every intention of having a positive, productive day tomorrow.0

@laurie--thanks for the links!
@hansea--I forgot to say congrats on your loss for the week! You made me LOL when you said "everyday is cheese day" in WI.
@mel--bad days happen. Due to my BC, I don't even get visits, but I still get food cravings a week before I would be due. At least you know what it's from and can start fresh tomorrow.
AFM--got a burst of motivation, applied my mantra, and graded half of the analysis activities. Yay--less to do tomorrow!

Hi everyone,
Today is my weigh in day and I am happy to report I lost 2.5 pounds and am again back on my ticker. My intent is to never have to battle those same pounds again. Things got a little crazy earlier this month after that string of not so fun things, deer hit, mom in hosp, dying alternator in the car on the way home etc. I resorted to emotional eating and bingo, gained weight. The talk this week about emotional eating is so true for so many of us; I am especially susceptible. This “old dog” needs to learn some new tricks in that regard.
To that end I do think the mantra is helping. I really did remind myself to be tenacious several times. I also often use Karen’s mantra of “just 15 minutes” and Niki’s “follow through” to keep me at this. It all finally came together and worked this week!
@cblue Lori, congratulations! I am thrilled for you.
@hansea My same thought about National Cheese day. I too had cheese yesterday!
@Laurie Thanks for posting the links to those Huffington Post articles. They were so “on target”. Especially hard for me is the darned bread basket. I order a healthy entrée and salad etc only to have the bread presented while I sit there hungry. If it is really good crusty bread with EVOO to dip in or those darned Cheddar Bay Biscuits I am in real trouble. I have never tried to snack before leaving the house, but I am thinking just maybe that would help as then I would not be so hungry. Gotta think about that one.
AFM: I still need to get myself moving more in the exercise department. I think the challenge next month will help. Just seems I can always put that off with little other things that “need” to be done first. I need a new mind set on that one.
Welcome to all the new people. There are so many of you I sort of lost track. You certainly have come upon a great group of people. Keep coming back and join the conversation.
Hello to Kai, Edna and Ellen.

Cardio Exercise: 0 /31

Wed Wish- That this journey was way more easier than it actually is. I guess I have unrealistic expectations of how fast a person will lose. It did take from age 12 to 26 to get this big so it won't melt away just cause I wish it gone. Patience is a virtue just wish God gave me more of it
Ok, secret to tell....I don't watch much tv and usually only watch specific shows but I am addicted to this show on TLC channel called my-big-fat-fabulous-life. It's about this girl who found out in college she had polycystic-ovary-syndrome-pocs when she couldn't stop gaining weight. It's a reality tv on how she is living her life to the fullest at 380lbs, things she struggles with and trying to lose weight when this problem makes you constantly gain.
@Newbies-Welcome to the group
@cblue- awesome job on the milestone met.
@mountmary84- I am an emotional eater also. Congrats on the loss.
@Rozie- I will continue to keep you in my prayers
@karen- great will power over the pizza
@Susan- hang in there, you are a very strong woman. ((Hugs))

Hi all! First time posting here! This looks like a great forum. Following the suggestion at the very very top (if anyone can see that far back, lol) Today is Wednesday and I am going to talk about my wish.
My wish is that I can be happy with my choices in life.
My life has been like a domino. Where you wouldn't think one thing would be remotely related to another (I didn't), turns out I kick myself all the time for it.
One example: I had wanted to move out of our house and town for years. Gave it a lot of thought. Things fell into place and we did. We bought a different house on the other side of the county (small county in TN) in the country with an acre and no neighbors. Nice place, bigger, more quiet than the no street light town we lived in and has lots of privacy.
Who knew that in doing that, our kids to quit coming to see us with the grandkids, my husband and I to argue all the time about the way his son is taking care of the other house, and family to turn against us. Then ultimately for me to go into depression that caused me to gain back 55lbs I lost on WW between March 2010 and June 2012. Which only caused me to gain even more along with it.
That is just one example, not even the latest choice I made about my job!
Sorry if this is long. I understand that life happens, but why does it always have to happen all the time? Lol.0 -
@mountmary84 - binge eat celery! low calorie, and if you can eat the whole package, you are better than me!! hee hee0
-
So far today is going well. I realized I can sit here and make a plan for how I want to lose weight all I want but it does me no good unless I put it into action. So today I am really really starting to put my weight loss plan into action. No excuses. I am going to open my food diary so If anyone wants to have a look at it and help to keep me accountable that would be super awesome! If you do look you'll see that I cleared it out for a while back so I can feel like I am starting fresh today.
Thanks for all the suggestions on where to find lifting equipment.
@Mara good loss! Keep it up!
@cblue Congrats on reaching 100lbs lost! Such an inspiration!
@Skinny Great job on only taking half a slice. Pizza is one of my weaknesses. I try to make my own healthier version. Chicken avocado pita pizza. It is fantastic. I want to try it with cauliflower crust instead of pita soon.
@mountmary awesome loss!
Have a great day!

Good morning everyone.
Today's Reason to Celebrate
January 21, 2015 is
New England Clam Chowder Day
It’s New England Clam Chowder Day! Chowders originated in fishing villages on the coast of France in the 16th century. Back then any kind of fish chowder was considered a poor man’s dish. Most recipes called for salt pork and biscuits, which were both part of a standard sailor’s ration. Today, we’ve substituted the biscuits (also known as hardtack) for salty crackers!
There are many different varieties of clam chowder including New England, Manhattan, Rhode Island, Down East, and Outer Banks. New England clam chowder is made with milk or cream, and the use of tomatoes is frowned upon. In fact, in 1939 the state of Maine made it illegal to put tomatoes in clam chowder!
Celebrate this great culinary tradition and enjoy a bowl of delicious chowder in honor of New England Clam Chowder Day!
I will be having some chowdah tonight ayuh!

Wednesday Wish ... that my sleep pattern would stabilize and become 'normal' again. I am dragging, yawning, grumpy, tired, and without any energy. My pattern got turned upside down when I got sick at the end of December/early January ... and I'm not a happy camper about falling asleep and waking up a 3 or 4 hours later to be wide-eyed awake but exhausted the rest of the night. So please, Mr Sandman ... bring me a good night's sleep tonight.
@Morgori - Clam Chowder ... thanks for telling us. I will have to make certain I get some ... cause I don't make it very well.
@cblue - Congratulations on the 100. Good work. Care to share anything you have done, learned, along the way?
@mnwalking - You've got it right ... it took to gain the weight, more time just keeping it around, and thus we know it will take time to trim it away. That's why it has to be a life-style change and not a quick-fix diet. Just keep in mind, every 10% of body weight drop in extra weight has a huge impact on a healthier you. Love yourself for the healtheri choices you are making every day, from how you eat to what you do, say and think. You will succeed.
@mountmary - Whoop, Whoop, Whoop! You GO girl! That Tenacity is paying off.
@all the Newlings ... welcome to the thread. Stop by often and let us know how you are doing. Join us on our group 'challenges' ... we challenge only our own selves, but do it as a group to cheer one another on and 'account' to one another.

@Tom Who knew? I am cleaning the pantry today and just happened to find the fixin's for clam chowder. Guess I had better make some today. Thanks for helping with my menu planning. Yesterday it was a open face cheese sandwich for lunch, today the chowder. What's for lunch tomorrow?

@Skinnyjeanz - Good going on that grading Karen. You have worked very hard at this ... did you hear President Obama on last night's State of the Union Adress praising the teachers in Illinois and Tennessee? I thought of you when he talked about how the kids have improved in their tests.0

Good morning all. Well today is off to a good start. I got the kiddos off to school and then came home and walked the dogs. Then the fun really started. Today was bath day. The dogs suffered through in their usual silence with their large accusatory eyes. It was the first one for the kittens however. Neither one of them suffered in silence. Loki the girl was the best behaved though. At least she didn't try her hardest to bite me like her stinkin brother did. Unfortunatley for them they will have to learn to deal with them about once a month, lol. I have started making myself lists of thing to accomplish during the day. I am hoping having the lists will help me resort less to that whole boredom eating thing. plus I get a real feeling of satisfaction when I scratch things off Yep I am simple like that lol.
Rozie I am so sorry about the loss of your mother. I know she is looking down on you and is always very proud of all you do.
Skinny I am happy you are getting your shoulder worked out. Great job on getting the grading done.
Lori congrats on your swim meet. You and Kah both are always such an inspiration when it comes to working out.
Grandmakaye I hope things start working out better for you and slow down back to more your normal.
Cblue congrats on reaching the hundred pound mark. I still have a ways to go but I know I will be joining you sometime this year
Well to everyone I hope you all have a great day and my wish for today is that all your wishes come true0 -
@skinnyjeanzbound - Woohoo indeed! BTW, I'm totally jacking your mantra for the next couple of days to tackle my writing assignments.
@mountmary84 - Congrats on the loss!
Wednesday Wish - Like @NK1112, mine is for better sleep. I was up too late again last night, so although I did get up and do my morning routine, I fell asleep right afterward and snoozed for about 4 hours! A 30-minute nap is one thing, but my body is clearly telling me that I MUST change my sleep schedule.
AFM - Feeling less like punching people in the face today, so that's good for us all. Went to the rec center yesterday to use the brand new fitness room; it's fabulous! We actually have windows! They also bought some new types of cardio machines, including an AMT (I think that's right) which has been recommended to me as sort of an "advanced elliptical". I got on for a couple of minutes, but didn't have the patience to figure out how to use it yesterday. I'll try again soon.

2015 Mantra: Live Intentionally0 -
mountmary84- 1/22/2015 is National Blonde Brownie Day
When : Always January 22and
National Blonde Brownie Day is a special day that is set aside to bake and eat blonde brownies.
What's a blonde brownie, you ask? Well, as their name implies, traditional brownies are a dark brown. To make blonde brownies, light brown sugar is used in the recipe in place of dark brown chocolate.
On National Blonde Brownie Day, its your right and responsibility to bake blonde brownies, and to eat them. If you don't have time to bake today, buy some and eat a few extra blonde brownies.
Note: The use of nuts and frosting on your brownies is optional.
________________________________________
Origin of National Blonde Brownie Day:
Our extensive research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day. Perhaps it was someone who wanted a different colored brownie. Perhaps it was a food company. We may never know.
If we ever find the originator, we have one question to ask: "Just what was wrong with regular brownies!?!"

Well son and I took the bikes out for the first time. It was fun and a fail at the same time. I live in very hilly western Washington and I thought we found a spot that wouldn't be to bad but there is definitely a gradual rise on the way home and ended up walking it most of the way. Up side it was still a good workout. I thin k we have a good idea for tomorrows rise. I will keep you updated0
-
@Tom Gosh, this is sort of a high calorie week. I could make the brownies, and DH would be thrilled, but who would eat the rest? Gotta wait for the grandkids for that one.

Happy Wednesday!
@Rozie - Thanks for your cheer.
- @all - I hope your actions today helped you reach for the goals you have for yourself.
Wednesday wishes - I wish for the strength of mind to continue this journey through reaching my goal right into keeping my weight off once I reach a healthier weight. One of the things I worry about is...what will I do in order to keep the weight off. This may seem like a simple question, but for someone who has not been a healthy weight in 25+ years, it is an important question to get a handle on. One of my answers to what I am going to do to keep the weight off is to expand my current physical activities, and develop friendships with people who are active. (Not that I'm going to lose my current, amazing, more sedentary, friends....I just need to also have people with which to do active things). A very long range goal of mine is to bike a century. I love bike riding, and want to develop my skills/experience so that I can mountain bike and ride on streets and rail trails for longer times than I currently am able. I just heard about this place that is about 20 miles away that has group bike classes (indoor bikes). They groove to amazing music and are really into the whole group process of it. It sounds like an amazing match for what I am thinking about. I'm in the process of figuring out how to 1. afford the classes and 2. manage the time commitment of it. So I guess my share is a wish and a tentative plan on how to make the wish come true. I'd love to hear of any ideas you all might have for me to help me increase my endurance/strength.
Perfect effort and balance,
Mara0 -
@maram29 - There is always yoga and pilates ... like good old-fashioned calisthenics routines ... I used to be a practioner of Hatha Yoga and loved the flexibility, stamina, and serenity it brought to my days. I'd do it at least one hour a day, and then when DS went to bed, my DH would ask me to do poses for him as he thought some of them were pretty amazing.
Seriously, I think there are just so many activities that do what you are planning for .. I think it kind of depends on what floats your boat. .... You like riding a bike. During the warm seasons you could ride for hours ... maybe set a goal of covering x number of miles on your bike. In the cold months you could do the indoor bike classes ... is that Spinning? I think bike riding and spinning are considered aerobic activities, but I could be mistaken.
The fasted way to build strength is most likely through weight/resistance training ...
You might want to spend a half-hour or so online looking at exercise articles from HelloHealthy (MFP BLOG), Self magazine, Fitness magazine ... and so many others. Just 'google' endurance/strength exercises ...
Here is a link to an article that discusses 5 ways to build endurance/strength ... and bike riding is part of it!

and here is an inspirational photo ...

Happy Wednesday everyone! Today was super busy and I'm really worn out. First I got my hair cut and colored, then hubby and I ran all over doing fun stuff like going to Sams, the grocery store, Micheal's, and Hobby Lobby. The best part of the day was the weather. We were in the mid 60's and there was sun!! We even treated ourselves to a Starbucks iced coffee. So tasty!!!
My Wednesday wish is that I would simply keep on the program. My weight has been going down again this week and that makes me motivated. I just hate when I lose my mojo and slipped back into the eating habits I know are so destructive. If I'm going to eat it then I HAVE to plan it. That simple!!
0 -
Well, I didn't make my calorie goal today, but I logged it even though I knew I was going over. That is something that I haven't been doing for the last few weeks. Whoever said. "What you eat in private, you wear in public" was speaking to me. Tomorrow is another day. I will make it better!
@Skinnyjeansbound way to go on the grading. I hope you get a couple of days grading free. You've earned them.
Onward and downward. Kaye0 -
@kaye--great job logging! I also appreciated that quote when someone posted it--so true!
@teresa--sounds like a productive day--and congrats on the scale moving down.
@mara--I love all of the ideas niki posted. I don't know where you're at activity-wise, but walking is one of the best and safest ways to work on cardio endurance. When I started back to the gym (60 lbs ago) it was after several years of doing a lot of walking--with gunner and as training for the Komen 3-day. Once I joined to gym I moved to the elliptical as my main form of cardio until I finally felt ready to start running. Now I still do all of those (plus a few others), but running is my favorite.
@tammy--I could not imagine trying to give a cat a bath. LOL! I've given gunner his only twice--once due to the Great Skunk Incident of 2008, and the other b/c he was playing in the river at the dog park. Normally though I just take him to the doggie salon--totally worth the money.
@mel--steal away I find myself using a lot of the phrases here in my daily life now--especially in situations when mine doesn't quite work. Glad you are in a (slightly) better mood today.
@niki--I missed the SOTU address, but will watch it online when I get a chance. Glad to hear my state got some kudos.
@rozie & holly--I'm fortunate that pizza is not one of my weaknesses--otherwise, I'd be in big trouble living here in Chicago. I do love a slice of deep dish every now and then, but that's one of those meals that is a once in a great while splurge. My DH likes thin crust, but I'm not a big fan so we rarely order it. If we have pizza it's just the frozen, not very tempting variety.
@roto--welcome!
@tom--the New England Clam chowder post was making me drool. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of places in my area to get a good bowl. I can't stand the canned stuff. I was a Navy brat and spent summers in Norfolk, VA where I was spoiled with east coast chowder. LOL
AFM--I ended up going out to Mariano's for lunch with some colleagues. It's kind of like a Whole Foods, and they have amazing sushi. That cut into my grading time a bit, but I still made some progress finishing the analysis activities. My plan for tomorrow is to finish the journals while my last class takes their final exam. Then I will focus the rest of the day on a combo of prep for next week and journal conferences.
After school I went to the gym and ran intervals for 20 minutes, then a steady mile or so at a challenging (but not impossible) speed of 5.8. Felt good to get that second run of the week out of the way. I already have plans tomorrow and Friday after school, so no gym either days, and I will have to watch calories carefully to avoid going over.
