Unexpected results of weight loss

Good thread. The only new one I could add was I noticed all the sleeves on my shirts got longer. 379 - 296 lbs made the sleeves on my coat almost 2 inches longer (back fat mostly).
Lol I love this. I lost like 8 inches off my chest measurement, but my cup size stayed the same - it was all back fat!!!4 -
Here's a strange one from this morning's training session. When I lay face down on the floor for supermans or stretches, it now hurts a little because my ribs and pubic bone are touching the floor rather than my belly!3

With a similar issue my trousers now seem an extra inch or two longer because my stomach isn't forcing me to drag them up higher on my waist! I unfortunately discovered this when the hems were dragging in the snow yesterday!1 -

I've only lost 10 lbs so far, but I noticed this already with my karate gi pants.

My girlfriend says my boobs look bigger cause I'm getting smaller and have more muscle under the tatas. I don't love my boobs but I'm glad she's liking them5

Holy Crap! The feeling of running at my prior weight compared to now was absolutely mind blowing.
I can't even begin to imagine trying to run carrying over 100 extra pounds on me. I consider myself pretty fit and healthy now but it would kill me to try to run carrying that weight. No wonder it was so hard to even jog when I first started losing weight.
I have lost over 100#s and did farmer's carries in the gym the other day with 110#s, how the heck did I walk around like that all the time? It is crazy when you think of it that way.
You also had more muscle (theoretically- if you have only cut weight without doing a bulk cycle) when you were 100 lbs heavier.
Still, I feel ya. I have lost 62 lbs and my big dog weighs 65 lbs. I cannot walk around carrying her, dear lord.Good thread. The only new one I could add was I noticed all the sleeves on my shirts got longer. 379 - 296 lbs made the sleeves on my coat almost 2 inches longer (back fat mostly).

Psst your cup volume has changed. It was not JUST back fat. A 40D has much more cup volume than a 32D. Here's the best explanation I've read on the subject which could help you (or others) find a good fit after weight loss: http://blog.butterflycollection.ca/2012/05/bra-school-not-all-d-cups-are-same-size.html
Good picture:
From Left to Right 30D, 32D, 34D, 36D, 38D. Five different band lengths, five different cup volumes. All D Cups. You can see how bras on the right have much larger cups, despite the fact that they are all D cups.16 -
The two biggest things that happened after I'd lost about 50 pounds were real surprises.
(1) My constantly dribbly bladder stopped dribbling.
(2) I started having gall bladder trouble again that made me go to the doctor to be checked.
The first one, clearly, is a delight. The second one is not actually as much of a negative as I thought. Here's why.
I've had gall bladder discomfort for decades, fat or no. After about the fourth normal gall bladder ultrasound, I started refusing to go have one done when what the docs always said was probably my gall bladder was bothering me. But when I went to see my new PCP, she said that people often develop gallstones when they lose weight very quickly. (I don't consider 1 to 1.5 lbs. a week "very quickly," but I guess maybe it is.) Did you know this?
My doc insisted I have the gall bladder ultrasound (NORMAL!) but then she sent me for a HIDA scan, which showed my gall bladder is barely functioning. It's storing up bile and not releasing it properly, which has made my digestion be pretty messed up and me feel pretty awful and toxic. Everything else looked great, so I'm scheduled to have my gall bladder out, and I'm actually looking forward to it. My doc said I ought to feel a whole lot better when it's not impeding bile flow and also that my coloring should improve. (My skin looks terrible.)
(3) The other real surprise has been the way I've lost weight. I rock...down/up/down, back up/down, down, back up/down but always in a downward trend. But even when I was closer to ideal weight, I had a rounded/bulbous butt and huge thighs. Now my butt is shrinking in a way where it looks like I think a butt should look, and my thighs are, too. I'm shrinking all over, in other words, not just losing from my upper body. I think this is probably the difference between extreme diets that take it off fast and what I'm doing, which is gradually going down. My skin is tighter overall than I expected it to be, too, except for my neck.
Happy...

Lol - I actually understand that, and since I was responding to a man didnt bother too much with using correct or technical explanation. What I mean is the volume did NOT change. Basically, I have nothing (not even really A cup) and still have nothing The cups on old bras fit just fine still (since they were basically tshirt material anyway, but the bands are way too big.
Either way, I definitely have less back fat! Maybe not the full 8 inches, but pretty darn close!1 -
I don't know if this has been posted yet or not, but I've noticed within the past month that I'm not able to eat the same amount of volume that I could at my highest weight. Granted, I have learned to eat high quantity/low cal items more (veggies, especially), but I find myself struggling to finish a small filet of fish, rice and veggies when before I could have easily eaten a whole pizza14

Me too!! And it is amazing how quickly that transformation happens. Before, I would not feel satisfied unless I was very full, close to stuffed. I would sometimes order two meals for takeout because I would be afraid one was not enough. Grosses me out to think about that now. These days, I feel my best when I'm just barely full. Anything more than that feels too heavy.8 -

The daftest one for me was when I tried to sweep some spilled dry rice off the kitchen counter into my cupped hand, and it all fell through the gaps between my fingers. I didn't used to have gaps!
Second daftest was having to get my glasses frames resized because they just kept falling off my face.
Oh my gosh... My glasses are so loose and I didn't even think about it being due to weight Loss! DUH hahahah So did you have to get new glasses or just have the arms tightened?3 -
Standing in a changing room beaming at my reflection when I tried on a whole outfit in size UK 12- the smallest I have been in my adult life. Dropping 4 sizes is so much more fulfilling and easier to believe than -49lbs on the scale. Second everyone who has spotted a newly-emerged collar bone- it's amazing! I hadn't realised mine had disappeared until it came back. I also love how much further my bath towels go around me and with the snow up here, I am delighted my ski jacket has enough room now for many layers underneath!7

One big change I recently noticed is similar to others here, I seem to have gone from seeing myself as smaller than I am to seeing myself as bigger than I am. It's a strange feeling to sometimes feel larger at 185 than I did at 285. The brain is a strange thing or maybe I just indulged in a few too many recreational substances in my past.
I have that from time to time. I think the call it Body dysmorphic disorder.2 -
I just remembered another one -- going to the doctor's office and when they ask "what medications are you on" and I say "none," I always get a look of surprise, and then they say: "None?"
It makes me feel super healthy.
I JUST had this happen! It's like they are so surprised to have someone in their office that isn't on a regular medication of some kind. Crazy isn't it?
Same here!0 -
I didn't go into the handicapped stall in the ladies room and came out with a smile realizing that I no longer needed to...because there was plenty of room!5

Some of these are absolutely hilarious! I'm definitely going to refer back to this for inspiration.1

Being treated better and no longer being invisible.10

Great thread here! There are a lot of things I didn't expect. One is that I notice people are nicer to me. I mean, strangers and acquaintances. Perhaps I carry myself with more confidence or maybe it's true that people react differently to thinner people, I'm not sure. But I notice men in particular smile more often and hold doors open for me whereas they didn't before too much. Another great surprise is all the friends I've made by getting out there and being active. What a perk! Another that I'm so thrilled with is that I can finally run! I never, ever could run. Growing up, I always was a dancer, and I was also on the volleyball and cheerleading teams, but I was overweight. Not as much as when I was an adult, but probably 30 - 40 lbs. I could never do the mile in gym class. i was always last. Well, two weeks or so ago, I ran my first 10K and it was thrilling when I came in 116th place (not last) and did not need to stop once. As far as my body, I have lost weight in weird places, like my feet (I was in a size 8 and now 7 1/2 feel big) and my armpits! I have trouble shaving because they're almost hollow now. Also, when I sit, my tailbone feels like it hits the seat surface; I guess I don't have much padding there anymore. Those are just some things I can think of. The best thing is being able to wear clothes that I always wanted to, although because of loose skin, I still wouldn't feel comfortable in a bikini. But hey, no big deal. I can get over that.4

The last 2 posts I found really interesting - I'm finding myself kind of fascinated by how differently I'm treated now. Even just casually and in passing. Probably a topic for a different thread but I feel/notice it regularly.

I agree, I do get treated somewhat differently by strangers. My friends and family still treat me the same. I think a lot of it is my confidence, I am not trying to hide anymore, I am still not the center of attention kind of person, but I don't want to be invisible like I did before. I definitely get at drink at a crowded bar a lot faster.4 -
I started my journey yesterday and am extremely excited to hear all the support and things I have to look forward to.
Each one of your comments filled my heart with so much encouragement and took away fear and uncertainty.
VIVA collar bones, wearing high heels, no tight rub, having knees lol and feeling comfortable in my own skin!
I CANT wait to experience these all
I LOVE all your commentsMadDogManor wrote: »My daughter and I got separated in the grocery store. When she found me, she almost walked right by me - she said "I almost didn't recognize you" lol!6 -

- That when you get smaller losing sizes happens faster. (Going from a size 20 to a size 18 was like 25 pounds. Going from a 18 to a 16 was only like 15 pounds. I would imagine that the lower you get a single size could be just 5 pounds.)
All of this! But especially the last one! At my absolute highest weight I was a 22/24 and it took a good 20 pounds to get into a size 20 and another 15 pounds to get into an 18 and now I'm on the verge of getting into a 16 and that took 15 pounds to get here and I can NOT wait to get into a 14 again! It has been SO long!

I love to touch my collar bones, all the time. They were never visible before. My feet look so much thinner which I love for sandals, I noticed my feet were getting smaller before anything else on my body.
Also, my obliques, I LOVE my obliques! Ive only lost 50 pounds and still have abt that to lose, but I can feel my obliques now and I never have before. Now I find myself holding my sides and bending from side to side just to feel them tighten. Lol cant help it!5 -

Almost everywhere I go, I notice people exercising - walking, jogging, biking, etc ... part of me knows they were there before I started, but somehow my eyes would mostly just slide past them, or somehow refuse to acknowledge their existence.... now it seems like they are everywhere, and from my new perspective, they just suddenly appeared, and when I see them, it makes me want to go and (jog/walk/bike/whatever they are doing) too.7

Ill be happy when I get there. Good for you! Awesome job:-)0

The pressure that I put on myself to look good now! If I don't look my absolute best then I'm very critical of myself. Something I never used to do before.. Maybe because I always looked rubbish!2

I'm still at the beginning of my weight loss, so this is more diet change than weight- the swelling under my eyes has completely gone and with the help of my PT exercises my legs apparently look much slimmer. (They feel sooooo much better too! But I expected that) However, the biggest changes I didn't expect - I'm no longer having so many bouts of eczema or crappy fatigue ridden days. When I started listening to my body, I found out I was essentially poisoning it through diet and I feel so much better now that I'm not gorging myself on whatever, and instead putting in the correct amounts of foods that that won't make me ill.
It may sound silly, but you know your body and if you just stop for a moment to listen to it, you could be surprised with what you learn.5 -
So I've only been at this for a month, but here's something nice: we are on a pretty strict budget. I get a lump sum of cash weekly to spend on groceries, household items, goods and services, etc. Now that I'm not secretly going to drive thrus, I've had extra money each week! Who would have thought? I'm going to save my extra money for a new, smaller wardrobe7

This thread is so inspiring. It's hard to have things like "heart disease and diabetes run in the family" motivate you to lose weight when you're young. But wearing heels all day, no chub rub, and not feeling like a space heater all the time! These are things I can get behind! Thank you everyone, and congrats!5
