I've never had cheese curds. I have absolutely no reference as to their texture or taste, and it's killing me not to know. Can someone help me out here? What are they like?

The taste is good, like fresh cheese. The texture is bouncy, like licorice Nibs. Sometimes they squeak when you bite into them, but not like a mouse, more of a fresh mozzarella cheese squeak.

Not that I've ever bitten into a mouse.

Come to think of it, the only time I ever ate cheese curds was on a bet. Maybe they were cheese-covered mice. Which, coincidentally, I am now cutting out of my diet.

Seems like these changes are pretty constricting. I mean, what do you eat at restaurants, napkins? Just realize that there is no guarantee you will stick to this for life just because of your enthusiasm. You need to understand how these foods contribute to your caloric intake in case, like many of us, these restrictive practices give way... and there's nothing wrong with eating other oils besides olive and coconut, they are all fat. Nothing magically "healthy" about olive oil and coconut oil.

Not really a food but when I don't exercise I don't lose. Seriously, I don't lose anytning no matter how little I eat unless I exercise.

Then chances are you are eating more (i.e. calories) than you realize because weight loss = CICO. Exercise just increases your calories-out of the equation.

Excess calories, which came with mindlessly consuming large portions and eating refined carbohydrates (which lead me to feel hungrier and continue mindlessly consuming large portions).

    Why iodized salt?

Especially dihydrogen monoxide. If you want to bathe yourself in that nastiness, go right ahead.

What is dihydrogen monoxide and which foods is it found in?

    Everyone already took mine!

Ok I will say ignorance. I cut out being ignorant of how many calories I need to maintain, and therefore lose my weight; and I cut out being ignorant of how many calories are in the foods I eat. Once I understood all that, then it is easy to figure out ways to eat the foods and drink the beverages I want without having to eliminate any specific foods.

wanted to comment that this sounds like it also ties into taking true control of your weight management - instead of relying on "eating clean/right" or exercise to basically do the work for you in order to lose weight, it's about being pro-active and calling the shots and actually understanding what is going on with your body. I can't say that I was really in control when I lost weight via "clean" eating and exercise.... if I didn't exercise 6-7hrs a week or if I slipped up and started eating the "bad" food, I gained weight again (yo-yoed 15lbs off and on for 4 years before gaining again for good!). Exercise and diet controlled ME and dictated my choices. I had no idea about what role my intake or exercise was even playing.... shedding the ignorance thus leads to being in control of my choices for how to lose weight, and educating myself on how weight loss actually happens. It doesn't happen because I stop eating cookies or cake, but because I eat fewer calories than my body needs to maintain its energetic balance. If I don't want to exercise, that's okay, because I know how that affects my energy balance; if I increase the exercise then I know how much extra I can eat and still retain my goals.

Yay for control, self education, and loss of ignorance :)

So, squeaky, salty, cheesy, not-quite-melty, slippery, kinda-micey. I can get behind that. The mozzarella reference was a good simile to help me understand the squeaky bit. I thought you all were a little loony until I got to that point. Thanks!

As others have said, calories. That's really it. Cutting out certain foods is not necessary. I haven't cut out any foods that I enjoy. Not even the refined carbs and sugar that some seem to think are so evil. I've lost 47 pounds and gotten my BMI down to 21.6 with no restrictions other than CICO. Still seeing consistent losses too. I have at least one treat every day. I've learned how to make it fit into my calorie goals, and eating what I want is a sustainable plan for me. I ate Pop Tarts after dinner tonight. I don't feel the least bit guilty either.

It really isn't like mozzarella though. They are totally different in terms of texture and taste. You just have to try it to understand, as long as it's GOOD cheese curds. Ideally form some place that makes them fresh - we have a restaurant here called The Cheese Factory (not cheeseCAKE) that makes it all fresh... sooooooooooooo goooooooooooood.

Is that cheese curds and gravy on fries? Yummm. Whatever it is, it's definitely not on my list of things to cut back on.

Drinking pop/lemonade/sugary drinks of any sort. I'm horrible at giving up good food (...I eat pasta like every day...) but once I cut out pop my body lost like 3-4 pounds super fast. and I don't even want it anymore!

I cut out all my baggy clothes, like sweats & stretchy pants, to keep me honest. Nothing like a pair of tight jeans or tight shorts that cut you off to make ya mean enough to stay out of the fridge.
