What nobody tells you about losing weight

So much this, I suffer terribly with my coccyx now that I've lost a lot of weight, sitting down for even 10 minutes becomes very pain. I'm hoping one day it'll get better, the pysio at the hospital has me doing all sorts of exercises and stretches.

- It takes a long time for your mind to catch up with your body. I've lost over 140 lbs and there are still moments where I wonder if I will fit in a booth at a restaurant. Automatically assuming a certain size is too small (even if you're wearing that size at the time). There are days where I don't "see" how much I've lost until I look at progress pictures. That's been tough, but it's a work in progress.
- Seeing veins popping up where you've never seen them before. It kind of freaks you out sometimes.
- How much it hurts to sit sometimes, and along with that..being lazy (staying in bed and binge watching shows on Netflix ) physically hurts when you're so used to being active.
- Understanding that one or two days every once in a while where you decide you just want some freakin' cookies and cake will not hurt you and make you gain 10 lbs overnight.

Laying on my stomach is more like focusing all my weight on my hip bones and lower ribs... where did those bones come from????2

Toning after you lose weight! I was at the skinny-fat phase for a long time! Don't emphasize too much on the scale! Weights are your best friends!2

Looking forward to this. For vacation, packing is tricky bc the clothes are simply larger. And looking forward to smaller shoe size.1 -
- That you loose four kilos and everyone starts panicking and telling you that you should stop loosing weight, despite still being off your goal.
- That you could fit into a smaller size despite thinking you couldn't due to your hips/ribs/shoulder bones.
- That a loosing only a couple of kilos would make a huge difference.
- That the little voice in my head saying "eat the chocolate!" wasn't actually "me"
This well, not 4 kg but 19 kg but I am getting the " you are stopping now right?" - no I am not I have 3.5 kg to goal.
But the real one for me was the smaller size, having been up and down weight wise for a long time I have always believed that there is no way I could get into 10/12 (UK Size) trouser, my hips were too large etc etc. Well I am in the 12 no problem and I suspect that I will be in a 10 at some point (well for some shops).
The only other thing for me is how long my brain would take to catch up, I still see the old me in the mirror despite all the evidence to the contrary!0 -
There is a drastic need for a belt, esp if you "crack people". LOL. A problem I NEVER had when I had a huge gut to hold my jeans up.2

- how much confidence it will actually bring, especially when strangers start treating you like royalty all of a sudden!
- Sitting (particularly in baths) and laying (particularly in beds) will become ever increasingly uncomfortable.
- how vain you will become! I can't walk past a mirror without checking how I look nowadays!
Your turn!

How great it feels to comfortably cross your legs!5

Personally, I prefer suspenders.

I have gone down to a size 4 in the last year and I am having a hard time finding clothes that fit. Either they do not stock that size, or it gets picked clean as soon as new clothes go in . . . I am not sure. But I've been trying to find new pants for months, and I haven't yet found one that fits.
Speaking of pants and how they fit, apparently women's pants are not currently made for someone with a 10" difference between hips and waist. Anything I find that fits my hips gaps at the waist by several inches. I wish I knew what the manufacturers were using as standards.2 -
Nobody told me that I would be cold more than ever before. Also, that my body would look worse before it started to get better. The joys!10

Given what suspenders are in the UK, and that you are a chap, the mental image conjured up is...unfortunate. Think Rocky Horror Show.

Women's pants sizes suck. When I was bigger, I would struggle to find ones that fit ok in waist AND hips, but they were usually long enough (Im 5'9"). Now I'm a size 10 nz and I they are all too short. It's like they assume you must be small in all dimensions. I wear almost exclusively skirts and dresses for that reason. I only have 1 pair of work trousers these days because they are so hard to find

Hiking related:
I would not have the breathing problems I used to when hiking overweight.
That walking on a treadmill at a super steep incline prepares you for going up the mountain. The squats and lunges I didn't do would have saved my knees in the downhill... Or to relate it back to the OP - just because you lost weight does not mean you can neglect training for serious physical activities.6 -
Awww I love this thread.
People don't tell you how easy it is to fall back into your old lifestyle, even if you work out. I gained 20 lbs this year even though I ran 2 half marathons and one full last year. I would do nothing in between races but eat like crazy saying "I'll just lose it when I train"... Which didn't happen! Have your cheat moments, but earn them!
The eating more veggies and "poo" comment so made me laugh!1 -

Look for "curvy" fits. If you're in the States, you might try Loft and Ann Taylor for curvy fit pants. They're the best-fitting pants I've found. I recently discovered that Express jeans work great for my 11" difference waist/hips. Don't pay full price at Loft/AT. They have lots of 40-50% off sales.

I have the same problem. I've also found pants at Express/Limited. Also Walmart (ugh) and the Gap.0 -

Did the same thing when training for a triathlon. I added so much cardio to my life and didn't decrease resistance training. Triathlon was over and I kept eating, but stopped the two a days....still trying to re-lose that weight after 3 more triathlons.1 -
Nobody told me that how hard it would be to find a proper size at various stages of weight loss. I lose some fat from my chest first and then some from belly so when I go out to buy a shirt it would be lose from chest area and tight at the waist. Such a dilemma.3

"You will sometimes get annoyed or even angry when people offer you seconds or say you "deserve" a treat. I'm trying to lose weight! Extra calories means more work for me! Back off! (I'm still training my boyfriend about this). "
I am on the beginning of my journey and find that is already happening, but I have trained my husband and kid to pick a healthy treat and let me eat it when I have the room for it. I love asparagus, strawberries, and freshly picked tomatoes grown locally.4 -

When I got heavy, having clothes in stock was the best part about it. LOL.
I get a 12" hip-spring (hip-waist difference) at the low end of my healthy weight. I've heard scuttlebutt that Walmart, The Limited, and Gap have curvier pants. I know that Anne Taylor has "curvy fit," too.
Bongo jeans used to be the only ones that fit. They have THE MOST AWESOME curviness.
EDIT: HA! People already beat me to 3 of the 4. lolol.2
