Nice job on the Run to the Rescue 5K. A local club has a Roots and Rocks Trail run-Honest Description as it is a Very rough trail - at least they are Honest in there description.
@demoiselle2014 Hope the legs heal.
@JoRocka Calf Cramps - I feel your pain. Some days you have to wonder what our pets are thinking - "Crazy Master - I need a belly rub "
@5BeautifulDays Love your Trail Photo's.

We don't have official times, I was I did a 9:43 pace just over 30 min so not near a PR, Skip said she was about 23:49 not near her PR either. I thought it was a tough course, a few hills. Yesterday marked 3 months since I've started running. In spite of my lack of sleep the night before, I went out anyway. Started sluggish but finished strong, so a good run. I work a new pair of ASICS Gel Cumulus 16 for the first time. They don't have the cushioning of my Gel Nimbus shoes, but I think they'll be ok, particularly since I found them for just $52. I now have two pair in rotation (Brooks Glycerin 12 & ASICS Gel Nimbus 17) and two pair on standby (Brooks Glycerin 12 & ASICS Gel Cumulus 16).
4 miles around the local pond with my dog, which puts me at 27.3 miles for the month out of my 100 mile goal.
@ohhim, great job on that triathlon!
@kristinegift, @Nettiejb, and @WhatMeRunning, great job on those long run!
@skippygirlsmom, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!... the reunion was a blast. We had 124 in our graduating class and I think over 60 showed up. I've been to my 10th, 20th, 25th, and 30th and will continue to try to make every one. We had a pretty close class, even across cliques. One of the highlights of this reunion was a video from one of the keggers my group of friend held in the woods at the edge of town. Someone had a Super8 camera they "borrowed" from their parents. No one remembers it being taped except the guy who taped it. Thank goodness we didn't have facebook back then! I'm getting a copy and will have to show this to my kids....when they're about 30! I did miss out on the breakfast Sunday morning because I had to drive back home early to make sure I was here before my daughter left for college.0 -

@skippygirlsmom Congratulations to you both. Awesome!!!Thanks all for the encouragement. Ended up racing the sprint triathlon this morning (w. Waterproof bandages over the bite) and earned some hardware (2nd age group prize, 19th/244 overall), but had to leave early for a wedding and couldn't collect the age group prize medal.
@Ohhim Great job. Awesome time! LOL @ Walmart bike. I can totally see myself doing that.
@kimlight2 Congrats on your PR's on 8/2 and 8/3colleen_mairead_xo wrote: »Hi everyone! I'm new at this, I've been walking five days a week for just about a month now. Not especially long distances, I make sure to make time for at least a mile (to build the habit) so I'm going to aim for 40 miles this month (: My ultimate goal is to run a 5k in the spring, so any training advice for this noob is greatly appreciated! Best of luck to everyone!
Welcome aboard @colleen_mairead_xo
I suggest starting off with a run/walk. C25K is a very popular program. Or start by alternating running 5 minutes walking 5 minutes for 45 minutes 3x a week. Then each week (or every other week) take away 30 seconds walking and adding 30 seconds running.
@JoRocka I hope you are feeling better.kristinegift wrote: »I ran the first 8 miles on my own at a 9:13 pace and then met up with 6 people from my running group who did the next 10 with me. I was really grateful for their company because I definitely started crashing around mile 15/16. Managed to stick to a 9:33 pace for the second 10 and I would have paced probably closer to 10 without their motivation. Besides being tired from running 18 miles, my legs/knees/Achilles all feel pretty great, so I'm optimistic about my long weekly miles going forward! This is my longest run for a few weeks til I do 18 again in September, and it was definitely a good one! Perfect weather, good company, and so much G2 Gatorade in the fridge was waiting for me when I got home!
@kristinegift Running company is a double edge sword. They are awesome to keep you accountable and help you push it when you need it. They can also force you to push it too hard when sometimes you need to keep the pace down. But glad it worked out for you.
With all the calories you burned running 18 miles, why G2? You need the regular stuff to replace all that glycogen you lost. Glad your achilles is feeling pretty good.melaniefave41 wrote: »3.5 yesterday. Past couple of runs I have noticed some tenderness near/behind the outside of my left ankle. It's actually a little swollen, but not a real nuisance when walking. I'm guessing it's from overuse due to increase in miles (June was around 50, July was 88.5). I'm going to rest it today and tomorrow, see how it looks and feels on Tuesday. Ice it. My guess is that I'm developing tendinosis. Hope I caught it early enough that a few days off and shorter runs will correct the problem. If I can't run on it comfortably by the end of the week, I'll pay my doctor a visit. 24.1/90
@melaniefave41 Jump from 50-88.5 That's quite a big jump in mileage. You may want to cut back a few miles this month. Don't increase miles more than 10% from week to week and give yourself a cutback week on every 4th week.Today I did my first 10 mile in months!! Really pleased with my pace and the strength in my legs. In five weeks today these little beasties will be carrying me over the finish line of my first half marathon :-)
Congratulations and good luck @NettiejbI did feel some tightness in my hamstring on my run this morning. I have been stretching it out like a mofo and it feels better, but still sore. So, I went into RunKeeper and pushed my Half Marathon training back a week....since I had it set to finish a few weeks before the actual race anyways. It technically means I don't have to do any running this week, but what I am going to do is repeat last week and not move on to increasing the amount I would have if I didn't push it back. Unless the hammy gets worse...if so, I'll rest it while icing and treating it. Stat.
@shell1005 That's actually how you supposed to do it. Repeat the week (or the previous lighter week). You shouldn't actually take the entire week off altogether (unless you are reverse tapering from a major race). If you are injured, then see a good sports doctor and take their advice on rest.estepicursor wrote: »Hope everyone had a great weekend, I've been catching up on all your posted runs for the weekend...you all really know how to make a guy feel lazy.
@estepicursor That's the idea. Peer pressure! ;-)rajnigandha21 wrote: »Hi everyone! July was a train wreck for me. Let myself boggled down with visiting relatives and health issues. Failed at hitting 50 km in running. Hope August sees me in better spirits!
My target is same: 50 km in running.

@juliet3455 Skip is easily motivated, she wants medals. LOL I have to admit that if she places and they do not give out medals I will order her one for like $4 online. She loves to get the gift cards so she can put the towards new shoes, but she likes to have something to look at and say I won that or that race I finished 3rd or whatever. At 15 she likes to see the bling. At the race this weekend they had out on display these beautiful crosses and she thought first place would get the cross, she was so disappointed when they did not. The person running things had no idea what the crosses were even for, they were a bit confused. She has set herself a long term running goal, she wants to run in college, whether it's with a scholarship or not she just wants to run in college.
@alexpaige great job 28 mins non stop is fantastic!
@cancersurvivor2014 love the pictures
@shell1005 take care of those hammies ouch!
@estepicursor ha ha on feeling lazy, there are folks in this group that just exhaust me reading what they do
@ddmom0811 great rides this weekend followed by the great run this morning, how's the weather?
@kristinegift super recovery run today
@7lenny7 thank you!! Getting close to going up in AG OMG I bet the video was hysterical! I'm so glad you had a good time. You are truly starting to scare me with the shoes you buy!! But then again Allen in gone for a year and a few weeks ago JCPenney delivered a box, he brought 3 pair of shoes online. Hello you aren't even here ha ha!

I'm a bit late, but I'd like to join the challenge this month. I'm training for a trail run later in September so for this month I'm aiming for 350km (which is about 217 miles). As of today I'm at 71km/44 miles.
I got in 17km on Saturday and 12km yesterday on a very hilly technical trail. I had hoped to do more last night but my body couldn't handle it. I fell on the trail and scraped up my knees pretty bad; our group also ran through a wasps nest and I got stung 4 times on my stomach.
I'm currently sitting at 100km/62 miles for the month with 250km/155 miles to go.

Goal: 40 miles
8/4 - 3.66 miles. Darn ITB bothered me around 3. I thought I was over this.
8/6 - 4.33 miles. No ITB pain, but slowed WAY down. Cautiously optimistic
8/10 - 4.53 miles. No pain again! Still very slow, but slow running is still running

Got in a long 9.5 mile run today as I'm returning to Florida tonight, and won't be back in cooler weather like this for another week. Got to catch up with a friend which helped the time pass a bit faster on the run. I took it slow as I'm still recovering from the triathlon. Did a quick check of my race splits from Saturday's sprint triathlon, and I really need to learn to run 5ks better as my mile 2 time was 45 seconds slower than miles 1 & 3.
8/1 - 3 miles
8/2 - 6 miles
8/4 - 12 miles
8/5 - 5.5 miles
8/6 - 8 miles (w. 8x800s @ 6:22 pace)
8/8 - 3 miles (sprint triathlon 5k @ 7:03 pace)
8/10 - 9.5 miles
Total: 47 miles
Goal: 140 miles
Remaining: 93 miles0 -
