    I survived the pre-colonoscopy diet and the preparation ordeal the day before and morning of. When I got to the hospital mid-morning I was thirsty, needed coffee, and hadn't eaten in more than 24 hours, and was grumpy as a result. I was a model patient, though, and was nice to all the nurses.

    The doctor removed a small polyp during the procedure, and this polyp will be biopsied. Trying not to be too concerned. This is my first colonoscopy. I recall for my first mammogram, they wanted to do a biopsy on both breasts. I was scared to death I had breast cancer. Those biopsies HURT LIKE HELL. And it turned out that's just the way I'm construced--lumpy.

    I'll not worry about it unless I am given reason to.

    Not even counting food today, because I inhaled Bojangle's right after, and have since eaten a pnt of frozen yogurt.

    Resting this evening, then I have to drive back to the town I'm working in early-early. I'll probably get up at 3:00 a.m. and hit the road by 3:30 a.m.

    Janet OKC: I've also had sleep issues that impacted my memory and attention levels. I found forms on line to record sleep and used them for several weeks. We should be averaging a minimum of 7-7.5 hours of uninterrupted sleep per night to keep our brains charged up and functioning well. After several months, I stopped using the paper tracking system, but I'm still using the same goals and taking mental note each day whether I met my sleep goal. I always do better when I'm well rested. :flowerforyou:

    Mary from MN: I find that sleep time is important in order for me to have good memory recall and focus. I got my information from AARP in the beginning, thanks to a tip from Kim in N. CA. Then I did online research to refine and confirm it. You can see my previous post about sleep time. I haven't paid any attention to Dr. Oz since trying one of his "miracle" weight loss products. I think he is in show business, not health business. :mad:

    1. Log every bite and swallow.
    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on flexibility and back strength.
    3. Have fun every day.
    4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more!
    5. Eliminate alcohol.
    6. Monitor sleep. Try to average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.

    smiley-sport017.gif I had been wondering how over 100 pounds of dumbbells were going to be mailed to me and how they would arrive. Today Jake brought in a box when he brought in the mail....it looked pretty ordinary until I tried to pick it up. It was a medium size flat rate priority mail box with all the parts of one 52.5 pound dumbbell. The other one will arrive in another box. I've stuffed a lot of stuff in a flat rate priority mail box, but this is the ultimate. I unpacked it and it's great quality. I can't wait to start using my new weights on Friday. I won't be using the whole 52.5 pounds to start, but it will allow me to lift heavier than the dumbbells I have now.

    Great article comparing clothing sizes. Note that it says that they found a FIVE INCH difference in the amount of fabric in the same size article from different manufacturers. No wonder shopping is so frustrating! It mentions that those of us that are very short or very tall will have even more difficulty.

    Katla - I've been using my Fitbit to record and track my sleep pattern. I'm working on changing some of my habits that might hinder my sleep. It seems to run in cycles of about six weeks at a time. This has gone on for many years. Thanks for your insight.

    Joyce, I sure hope Charlie beats the odds. But everyone in our generation is living longer than before, so actually the odds are with him. I think my DH thinks his time could be up at any time just because of his heart condition but he is still going strong at 72.

    Rita, I’m no one to talk about exercise but since it can help with your depression try to force yourself to do just a little. I just hate that so many of my friends here suffer from such a debilitating condition.

    DrKatie, all this talk of remodeling has me thinking about the future. We have never lived in our house longer than 10 years and always seemed to move before things started needing to be replaced. If we stay in this house until we move to “the home”, we might eventually have to update something. At least it should be a while since the house is only 8 years old. I can already tell what will need to be done first is the carpet replaced. It’s probably the best quality carpet we’ve ever had but it keeps wrinkling and we’ve had it stretched once already.

    Pip, now that you found a pain med that doesn’t make you loopy, maybe the doctor will write you a scrip for some of your own. Feel better!

    Cd, glad you survived your first colonoscopy. I’m not one of the many medical people here but I don’t think it’s that unusual to remove a polyp and they always send them for a biopsy. So you are wise not to be concerned before you have a reason to.

    I slept really well last night, being back in my own bed. Even so, I have been extremely tired today. I laid down to try to take a nap this afternoon and couldn’t go to sleep. I had a dull headache most of the day, which I rarely get. I think it actually went away when I ate dinner. Maybe I just needed some protein? LOL I gained a pound and a half while out of town for the wedding. That’s not too bad considering what awful diets my niece and her family eat. We got more rain today, which was needed but if it doesn’t stop, I don’t know when DH will be able to mow. And it needs it now. Wow, I think I’ve caught up so I’m going to get this posted and go to bed.

    I have that trouble too! Dr Oz's sleep Dr said we go to bed too early. If you normally get 5 1/2 hours of great sleep count back from time you need/want to get up and that is the time you need to start going to bed. So, 1:30 bed time for a 7:00 wake up. Also quite Time with dim soft light. 1 hour before (starting at 12:30.) Relive your day during that period and solve all issues. Warm bath, sleepy time tea, cuddle with DH. No sex for women any later then 2-3 hours before bed time. It wakes us up. You need to increase sleep time gradually. 8-10 hours is what we should get. So, go to bed 5 minutes earlier after you start to be able to get into a routine and eventually work up to 8 hours or more.

    Katla - I understand that you might not appreciate Dr Oz, but some of us do. I do agree that it is wise to research more than one source to get the best information possible. The information on the sleep routine was from a sleep specialist. I still have the episode recorded because I like a lot of women have a hard time sleeping. I have tried to incorporate some of the routine into my life and it is helping.

    Wow, didn't know docs could mail scripts for narcodics. Don't think you can in OK, they can't even email and/or fax them from the doc to the pharmacy anymore. It's a pain in the neck.

    Did an hour of deep water today. First went to Bi-Lo to get items on sale, after exercise stopped at the Salvation Army. Found one shirt that I'm not sure I like a whole lot but got it for the price. Would never have paid full price for it

    The plan for tomorrow is to do a total body workout with resistance bands DVD. We shall see what that one's like.

    After coming home went in the pool, then in the house to make another one of the spinach/feta quiches, prepare dinner, and made a new recipe for chocolate chip cookies for Vince. Why, oh why, didn't I have my big salad instead of some of the cookie dough? Honestly, I almost couldn't finish my veges and salad at dinner. Went to ceramics tonight where I cleaned my welcome sign. It'll be fired next week which is OK. Worked a bit more on my duck but didn't realize that I didn't have as much time as I thought I had. Then went to Lowe's foods for one item (I thought something else was BOGO but I was wrong and we didn't need it badly enough)

    Mary from MN - the crustless spinach/fetza quiche is a SkinnyTaste recipe that Heather has mentioned. It's really not difficult at all to make and it has quite good flavor. Just google SkinnyTaste

    DJ - I have no idea why I've been dizzy. It actually doesn't happen all the time. It mostly happens when I have my head below my heart it seems. Welcome home. Wonder if being dizzy has anything to do with the fact the lately my lower back has been hurting. I am trying to be more cognizant of using good posture. Good for you only gaining 1-1/2lb. Glad your headache went away.

    I don't think you can mail scripts for narcotics here, either. The MD can call them in to the pharmacy, tho


    Mindy - turkey and meatball soup -- sounds wonderful. I got dinner ready since on Wed. we leave early to get to ceramics. Anyway, I made myself a HUGE salad. Don't ask me why I didn't have some of the salad, I should have. But instead I had some of the cookie dough (I'd made cookies for Vince)

    miriam - you are so right, cats are such an utter joy. I don't think I could ever foster, tho. They'd never go back and that would be a problem. I want to be sure that I am able to properly take care of the cats I have, we have 4

    @jmkmomm ahhh you lucky duck! When we moved from California to Oregon we picked out a new doctor up here, and got it all squared away by our military insurance. That was Dec 2012. Then in August of 2013 for some strange reason MY doctor was listed as a doctor in San Diego. So when I was seen by the doctor I had chosen, my military insurance billed it as "going outside the area" and it wasn't covered. So I called the military insurance hellish people and they were telling my doctor was so-and-so...Im like nooooo. I had to have my husband take the phone and use his CHIEF'S VOICE on them to get them to understand.... Crazy...

    Today I tried some "spelt crispbread" that is really good! I put some light mayo, spicy mustard, sweet relish, spinach leaves and some of my cherry tomatoes and it was AWESOME. A great platform for other stuff like those little light Baby Bells that are also AWESOME! My weakness...

    Just had a conversation with the teenager...He is going to start riding his bike to school to figure out how long it will take to get there. A little un-easy but I know he is careful. There is alot of huge logging trucks that go down the same street he will be going down. I just need to trust that he will be careful. Plus later on down the year, I will light him up like a Christmas Tree as it will be getting darker in the mornings.

    Every evening I walk to my garden. I saw my neighbor across the street (from our complex) talking wildly probably about a fish he caught. His hands were going a mile a minute signing. Two trucks there so probably his family coming to get a Chinock Salmon. Being that the boat ramp is about 5 minutes from him, I would imagine his family loves his location! Further down is the garden with a manufactured home next to it. A nice family has just moved in, with ALOT of birds. They are a foster family for endangered birds, and most nights they are outside with one of the large parrots. My tomatoes are still flowering and making more tomatoes! The plants have also decided to leave the plot I planted them in. They have taken over the path inbetween my neighbors plot and mine. Its a nice end to the day, and its quiet, except for the bald eagles talking to each other.

    The last couple of days I have been eating a generous bowl of soup for lunch. The calories have been averaging 400 to 500 calories. Its nice to fix it, and it really makes my dinners just like snacks. I have also been averaging no more than 1200 calories a day. I have been doing that for awhile and it is routine for me. To think that some McDonalds meals are 1200 calories alone, makes me just nauseated. And there are adults feeding that to their children every day! When I look at my son bounding thru life, lean, and healthy I can say I have done a great thing with him. Being an overweight teen is so stressful these days. As if completing the homework isnt enough stress alone. He has a friend nearby that has some weight issues, but he isn't willing to walk with my son when he does, or like I asked my son tonight, he said he wouldn't want to bike either.

    Yep I have volunteered many months ago with the community centers' Senior luncheons. There is a group of guys that ALWAYS sit together, and there are certain tables where others sit. So much routine! There is some that drink more coffee, and others that drink more water. There are some that don't want you to touch their plates until their last sip of coffee is supped, then others that wish it gone right away. So many unique personalities! We stay until the tables are cleared, and we get a couple of meals to go. Plus they have fruits and veggies to take, and breads you can have. I need a new book so I hope they have the take and read pile there.

    Um, skipping from halfway down page 31 to page 45. I've logged food and exercise daily; just didn't have time to get to this thread.

    I can't believe I spent 90 minutes at the gym last night. Can't claim I spent it all working out. Some was just sweating and panting. But went through the 30-minute express circuit, doing several of the arm machines twice (wasn't anyone close enough behind me to be inconvenienced) on both horizontal and vertical handles, then did a couple other machines, 30 minutes on the treadmill and - since I was within 300 of 10K - another 10 minutes.

    Still hovering a pound or two above 150. Went below one day, then right back up. Oh, yeah. I see I just said that. So I'm a bit obsessed with it.

    Didn't take my lunch half-hour yesterday - kept thinking, "I'll walk as soon as I get *this* done" - and got the OK to tack that onto today's. Used it to walk to a grocery a half-mile from work, pick up some veggies for tomorrow's lunch and buy tonight's dinner for all three of us - deli blackened catfish, asparagus and cauliflower for me, grilled chicken, asparagus and artichoke lemon fritters for the guys. I thought I was stepping out pretty briskly, at 10 minutes each way, but Google says it's an 11-minute walk. So maybe not. Still, it kept me in budget. Finshed the 10K steps in the hall waiting for Larry. Jogged 3x around. Maybe I should see if I can add one turn around the empty hall each night.

    I have to admit I get a silly grin out of the Fitbit step counter on the webpage dashboard. If you hit goal, it draws a green circle, then briefly fills in to create a face with a big grin and a word bubble floating out saying "Hooray!"

    Covered the oil lease sale for the western Gulf of Mexico today. Last week, made the national wire with a story about feral horses on an Army base in west Louisiana. They're both here.

    Lisa G - Way to go on the weight loss! I lost about that a couple of summers ago and expected everyone in chorus to notice when the season resumed in the fall. Nobody did. About six months later, I'd lost maybe 20 pounds more, and everyone started to comment. I don't understand, either.

    is small enough that I can handle it. When I first tried them, I had to cut off the inside edges of the surface that goes between the teeth, but after a few weeks didn't have to do that.

    labgirl - congrats on the first two pounds! Not sure what to think about the threat to your marriage. My first impulse is to growl at your husband.

    Betty in WNY - I tend to look squiggle-eyed at any diet that touts This Food or These Foods. Me, I'm of the balanced diet with calorie deficit philosophy.
    Not that I manage it all the time ...

    Yvonne in TX - eating out doesn't have to derail you. Just pay attention to how much of what you're eating, and either take leftovers home for another meal or leave it on the plate rather than letting it go to whatever part you most don't want it. If there are places you eat regularly, you might be able to get calorie figures, and know you can eat all of X but only half of Y.

    What about carrying a small notebook to places you can't log in, and logging what you eat on paper?

    JanetR - What about the lower-calorie bars for snacks?
    A Quaker Chewy Chocolate Chip Granola Bar is 100 calories, 7g sugar,17g carbs.
    Fiber One peanut butter protein chewy bar is 140 cals, 6g protein, 1g carb, 7g sugar (the upper limit I've set myself for any snack/nutrition bar)
    Kellogg's Special K Salted Caramel Chocolate, 100 cal, 18g carb 2g protein, 6g sugar.
    And sometimes, for me, an ounce of jerkey does it. I take small bites to stretch it out.

    Lenora - how great that the doc and nurse are thrilled w/ your weight loss! AND that your swimsuit is practically hanging off you. Maybe it's time to get a smaller suit for $20. ;)

    Vicki - I'm so sorry about your friend.

    Barbie - congrats on the weight training & telling your husband what you needed.

    Penny - hurrah for the strawberry fence! Too bad about the veggies. The goats sound fun - to watch, at least. :)

    PJnVA - I can understand your UP band paina. I have to admit that I get a huge grin out of the Fitbit's step goal marker on the webpage dashboard. It draws a green circle, fills it in except for eyes, nose and a big white grin from which floats a word balloon: "Hurray!" And at 10K steps the gizmo itself vibrates and goes into one of several celbration patterns.

    Chris - hope the cold goes away REAL fast.
    The 11 lbs must have been mentioned in the pages I skipped. You're almost halfway bacck - congratulations on that.

    Michelle NC - inspired by the spinach/feta quiches, I tried an eggspiriment at work, where I have a ceramic microwave egg cooker. I tossed in a handful of spinach, cooked it down and cut it up. Added 3Tbs egg substitute, a piece of Muenster cut up tiny and some seasoning. Wasn't bad.


    Ony thru p46, but it's bedtime for Bonzo.

    Sharon, every Grandma needs to make paper airplanes, whatchamacallits and doohikies. Life is so much more fun when you do those things. Semetimes it's needed even when the grand kids aren't there. the start of your day sounds awful but then the fun started happening!

    Allison, you must have needed that 10 hours of sleep. The world got along OK without you while you were sleeping. Sometimes the body senses that it needs to crash every once in awhile. It just doesn't give you any warning. :/

    Miriam, how about ordering equipment off the internet? When my son in law had his sleep study and got his CPAP, he had insurance. But then he changed jobs and didn't have it anymore. So he got it some where on line.

    Bad Penny, BTW that's a terrible name, good luck but if you have that much non luck in sticking to a diet, maybe you need to make goals a little smaller. Starting 5 things at once is a pretty lofty goal. Then maybe you can change your name!!!

    Miriam and Cheri, OTC generic benadryl is also one of my go to medicines for sleep but I hardly take it anymore now that I found Melatonin. Valerian Root and Wildlettuce leaf are also two natural sleep assistants that I have found.

    MNMargaret, I had never heard of a fan that actually had a sleep setting. or maybe people like my husband have been using them for years for sleep and so they decided to capitalize on the idea and put a setting on the fan which was actually the same fan as before. I use a sound machine. One good thing about it is that it has a place for a battery. Charlie likes his fan noise to help him sleep but doesn't like the breeze. So I bought him a sound machine. He asked me why in the world I thought he would need it. he doesn't accept gifts very well. Every single person in our family use either a sound machine or a fan!

    DrKatie, the only appliance I have left that is avocado is my stove. And it is in dire need of replacement. But since I hardly cook at my house it is used mainly used Thanksgiving and Christmas. But the sink is also avocado and it is chipped real bad. I like what other people have done to make a retro kitchen but they generally have carried that theme elsewhere in the house and I don't want that. Wow, sounds like you have had some timely bad luck in your house. Our carpet in two bedrooms is the original from 40 years. The bedroom I use as my office was Michelle's and one evening her best friend was on her water bed and experimented with how much it would take to put a hole in the water bed. I don't think teenagers logic can be explained. Well they found out and couldn't fix the leak so they just let us find out when ever we did. The ceiling in the family room finally started sagging and we followed it to her room. But that hole in the ceiling did make for interesting ways to try to put Santa Claus entering our house since we don't have a fireplace. We put red flannel and black shoes hanging out of that hole for many years. But we replaced it with an ugly blue that Michelle just could not do without. A cat we used to have used to get angry with me and would take it out by using that ugly carpet to pee on. We have tried numerous cleaners and shampoos to get that smell out. It is really bad on rainy nights like tonight. So all the carpet upstairs need to be changed. That is on our 'someday' list. Oh, we do have a fire place now. WE got one of those fake electric ones. The flame does look quite authentic and it sure does warm the room or you can just use the 'flame'. Plus it is a beautiful mantel for stockings.

    Lenora, my insurance will only pay for CPAP accesories if I have had a recent (within 2 years) sleep specialist visit. I hate to go see a doctor when I don't need it. The only thing that ever goes out is the velcro elastic eventually gets stretched. GRRR My husband has a quick temper that is quickly relieved by a quick jab to the wall. EAsy for him to say. I refuse to have anything to do with that hole. The mess it may make on the floor stays there until he sweeps it up. So he does a lot of spackling. And he isn't a professional if you know what I mean. So he sands it and it never sanded flat so I won't let him paint over it. So all over the kitchen, living room and his bedroom and bath there are these 'fixed' holes in the wall. We completely redid our family room in 2008. We tore it down to the studs and had some one professionally re do it. He has never touched those walls.

    Becca, although it sounds like you girls have a lot of fun when you help out at the senior center do you have to cook the meal also. That's a ton of work for just 4 people.

    Pip, we have to pick up our narcotic prescriptions and take it to the pharmacy. Even my Klonopin is a controlled substance but the refills can be called in. When I was on Ritalin for my MS I could only get enough for 30 days, I personally had to pick it up at the office and take it to the pharmacy.

    I felt so wonderful on Monday when the scales had finally gone down to 194. But on Tuesday and today it is 195.4. It is frustrating. I think my cat is snoring right now!! It sounds so cute. We have gotten about 3.5 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. We do not like that. Of course out west they would love it. It would help with the drought and the wildfires. I think I left my phone at church tonight. I forgot it today when I drove on the interstate a couple of towns away for my haircut. I thought the appointment was at 2 and it was at 3. I would have walked around her neighborhood but it was raining and further down her road is a lot of drug traffic. So I just enjoyed yakking with her and made a new friend that was in the chair. I had never seen anyone gets her eye brows dyed! So tomorrow I go down to the church and see if it is there. Sometimes it falls out of my pocket in the car. But when I called the phone tonight it did not ring so I know it isn't here. We started our Christmas music tonight!!!!!! Happy, happy. Friday we go pick up a free 8 foot folding table. A lady at the church died and it wasn't sold at their yard sale and am giving the rest of the things away. Then on Saturday going to drive to see Christina and spend day with her and family. It is always a long day, getting home around midnight.

    Terry in Milwalkee~ can I make a suggestion? rinse every few hours and after meals with warm salt water..it helps heal alot... I have worked in a dental office for 9 yrs as a dental assistant..
    things are going alright right now .. with Tom but he just wants to let it go as it is.. just like normal he said maybe down the road he will do something.. well how am I supposed to figure out my future with something like that?
    Oh geesh..
    My DSIL goes in for surgery today have saliva stones removed.

    One more day... actually got a lot done that I wanted to do these last few days, but the infrastructure of the restaurant has cost thousands of dollars in these last few weeks due to past neglect. The A/C units overloaded the whole restaurant electrical system, burning out ballasts/bulbs on all the bathroom lights, and frying the controller on the hot water heater. They were heating water on the stove last night to sanitize dishes. So, have had $3,000 worth of work done to the A/C and freezers/refrigerators/walk-ins in the last two weeks. Had to replace the sprinkler control system (another 500 bucks) light bulbs/ballasts in one freezer, probably need replacing in the other soon, still need the water softener checked. The music system went down three weeks ago, and it's just been one thing after another. I've learned I can go in my office, cry for a few minutes to let all the stress wash through, and then go back out and smile and smile and smile.

    And vacation starts tomorrow morning. One whole week and a day of just me and my hubby and seeing my best friend and my son... and it can't come soon enough. Off to the showers and one long day... the hubby and I are delivering the catering heat & eat for ten people, five days, this afternoon back to the ranch, so I need to get some other stuff done first. Off to the races!

    well didn't make it to the gym,but went out for a 50 min.race walk and burned alot of calories..sweated my tush off too.
    will be off to feed DFIL and then to see my DSIL and brother before she goes down for surgery today.. then coming home as the company is coming to replace the sink and they said( we shall see) bring that new piece of quartz..
    mow the lawn and make a coffee cake for tomorrow ,one of the girls at the office, it is her last day tomorrow..
    working a full day tomorrow and then have the weekend off.. we shall see how that goes..

    Good morning Ladies! Thank you for all the suggestions. Here's how I'm trying to deal: first figure out how to stop the morning headaches that can turn into migraines if I don't take a Tylenol right away. I think once I get that under control, some of the depression will ease. I am using a night guard I got from my dentist. My chiropractor/acupuncturist prescribed some natural relaxing/sleep inducing mess which do help me relax when I sleep.

    Second, I need to figure out why I get so sleepy in the afternoon to the point where I almost fall asleep while driving the 3 mile to home. I think everything is related somehow to the restless sleep I get. So I charged up my Fitbit which records sleep and restlessness to see if I can work on that with the hope of feeling better.

    Off to work now. TTFN
