Miserably stuffed - went to the Mexican Restaurant tonight with the kids; DH & DOS leaving in the AM to visit with DYS and hunt. Good time for all of them; and, DH can explain why we aren't changing wills and give them directions as to what we want to see done with it all after the last one of us 'bites the dust'. Good coffee now!

Miriam ... So very happy for you and the girls! New beginnings!

    Becca ... Enjoyed the video.

Pip ... A decorated neck brace ... I want to see.

Bushwhacked again tonight but it was a good day. Breakfast was a hit with my Friday guys. A friend's father... Whom we prayed for All day ... Came through lung cancer surgery. Younger son had first migraine free day in over a week. Older son spent time texting with me ... And 3/4 of it made sense! Artificial Christmas tree is finally decorated (live going up tomorrow).

Lots to do this weekend! Have not done cookies yet ... No one here needs them but both sons have been asking when so will try to get some done. Someone mentioned cards ... I haven't opened the boxes yet so that's in the list. Probably no letter again this year...

Early morning tomorrow..: you get son playing basketball with church league... I'm not going but will see him off!

    Have a good night!
Beth in Buffalo..: where I only needed a ligh jacket ... Last year this time we had 7 feet of snow!

Becca, loved the video. I have some tatted stars also but i bought them at a craft show. Some have a way to hang, others I just lay on the branches.

Pip, agree, want to see Kirby all glammed up! Good luck.

Miriam and daughters, congratulations. What a wonderful Christmas gift

Heather, I wondered also about all the wires. I would love to see all the different trams together but without all the overhead wires. I was wondering what the quee is???? So sorry DH has a sick tummy.

I know that there was so much more I wanted to say but I didn't write anything down. It seems like most everyone is status quo, some having some holiday struggles with their food, others have the determination for all of us to be good, some don't feel good or a family member is sick. Allison, you have an energizer bunny inside you and it seems like the battery is going low. I hope Florida can help.

I almost finished my Christmas shopping today. Christina is supposed to get back with me on another gift for Trinity and some suggestion on a stocking gift. My stocking gifts are pretty cheap things but things that are needed. Like I will get a tablet of origami paper for Ellie. Some how I will make it fit in her stocking. I also get all the women in the family an ornament every year. I will get a magnet for my sister's DIL who never puts up a tree. So just some last minute shopping. Well they all have to be wrapped. and then there is the small matter that we don't have a tree up yet.

I don't think Charlie particularly liked the idea of going to see the Blue Man group, it messed up with his Karaoke time. But he says now he isn't going because his bowels are so messed up. I really do think she should have thought about that before buying such an expensive gift. I hope she can get some one else to buy it from her.

    Hi everyone,

I keep seeing success with MFP and since I struggle with losing weight on my own I'm going to give this a try (again.) I want to feel healthy and fit. Since I fractured my wrist in July, I haven't been playing tennis, which I love, and have since become very sedentary. It's time to get moving again and improving my eating habits. Looking forward to coming back here often.

Only slept 3 1/2 hours, not enough, but maybe later I can nap. I say that but usually don't. I did something yesterday I don't normally do, I ate back my exercise calories, at least I broke even. Got in right at 12,500 steps. Highest so far. That included 60 minutes of water aerobics and 60 minutes of stationary bike. Plus I was moving around most of the day cooking/freezing.

Have my Christmas shopping done except for a few Visa cards we get for the older DGKs, that way they can shop for whatever they want.

Have a terrific day, ladies. Our weather is turning bad this afternoon, even a chance of tornadoes. What's up with that in December?

    Hi all!
Our tour was great and we understood most of it, sometimes just guessing. :D The guide was very animated and spoke very clearly.
We saw the oldest continuous medical school in Europe, once attended by Rabelais, and very much attached to the Botanical Gardens in the Middle Ages. Lots of old portraits of men in red robes. If you wanted to specialise in Botany you first had to become a Doctor! We also saw the Anatomy room where they had all kinds of wax models of diseases and preserved deformed foetuses etc. They had a model of one ovarian cyst that was as big as a space hopper! Ooouuuffff!
Glad we went as you can't go in on your own.

Just had our left over cold chicken for lunch. <3 Enough left for tomorrow. :D

This afternoon the tour is in English. The Mediaeval Jewish baths and some aristocratic houses. Many of the early doctors were Jewish, so there was a whole big community here once.

    Becca - enjoyed your video!

    Love to all, Heather

This photo is of one of the early doctors outside the entrance to the institute for medicine. The pointed turrets behind are the cathedral porch. Very unusual.

Congratulations Miriam!! That is a wonderful Christmas present.

    Heather - very pretty trains

Penny - your pictures of the North Pole are very pretty.

So the house is cleaned, company arrived very late last night. I am glad they made it, the roads are not exactly great because of the rain here and there. My cousins DH has a cold, so DH and him should be able to bond....nicely in a corner!!

I made too many steps yesterday, ate too much sugar and did not drink enough water...... very bad combination; therefore this morning I am up drinking my coffee and enjoying the peace and quiet of the sleeping house. And of course enjoying the company here with all of you.

Well... I have checked in on the posts - have a great weekend everyone.

Welcome to all the new people and hugs to everyone.

Now I best tidy up the last spot in the house, my home office. Unfortunately we don't have a door on it, it is right off the kitchen dinning room area and the telephone is in here ...so anyone wanting to use the phone will be in here at my desk.

Then - I will need to finish my Christmas cards...

    Later everyone

    Morning all...

Typing this at the cantina near the big house, as the Internet is down throughout this side of the ranch, other than this one building. Finished a second cup of coffee, now on to hot tea... Did not, in the end, go up to the big city (Midland/Odessa), just didn't seem worth the risk of falling asleep on the drive back. Did hit the few garage sales in the little town where the warehouse is located, and picked up a few minor bits and pieces. I'll eventually get there, just need to be less exhausted.

Speaking of which, the nagging health issue continues, and is worsening. Unfortunately, when they switched health insurances for my husband's company, they went to one where it's a $3,000 deductible before they will even pay copays, so that's out until after Jan. 1, at least. Still using the nitroglycerin cream I was given by the doc when I went to her in August, and bluntly it isn't doing a bit of good. Been looking up home remedies, got a few possibilities I'm willing to try. It's a quality of life thing, not the end of the world. Just annoying. And exhausting.

So, I'm going to stay at the ranch for the a week, or even two if I can stand it, other than short trips in when the DH has to go in to check on the warehouse. That will hopefully give my body some time to heal. Hate feeling fragile--it's not a good headspace for me--but the reality is, my body is telling me to stop for a little while, and it's time to respect that. Walking will have to be the only exercise for a bit as well. I added weights into the routine, since I got the gym membership, and that has exacerbated the fissure. That's just for those who are curious as to WTH is going on. Anything more than that would be TMI. It's TMI for me! On the brighter side, the ensuing nausea is helpful to keep the appetite down, though.

Hopefully, they get the Internet fixed out here on Monday--there's a hunting group coming in tomorrow. They don't have any issues with me being ensconced in the cantina and using the 'Net up here, it just gets NOISY. They're always a rowdy bunch, one way or the other.

Lisa, I have to ask, could it be celiac? Still missed by most docs. They are looking for things that medication helps, or surgery, not a diet change. Part of their training and part of the constant brainwashing by pharmaceutical reps.
  • lhannon062709
    lhannon062709 Posts: 1,140 Member
Miriam... thanks for asking--it's certainly a possibility, though less of one than most people think (only 1 to 2% of people nationwide actually have it, though you probably knew that already). I may just try eliminating gluten anyway--most things that contain it are things someone who's trying to lose weight or control their weight could/should eliminate anyway. We seldom eat out, and with me staying in town, I've had to do so much more of late... And less irritation for my digestive tract can only be a good thing right now.

And you have an even better point on the doctor thing... to a hammer, everything looks like a nail. I never go to a surgeon unless I'm willing to contemplate surgery, or a doc unless I'm willing to take medications--they're conditioned not to look beyond their specialties... It's the other reason I'm not worried about not going to see one right now. I'm not willing to either have them surgerizing me or using botox or adding more medications that aren't effective. I gave them their shot (so to speak), but I know my body better than they do, and am willing to try a few things.

I'm going to go back down to the house, so will be back out of touch until I feel like making the trek up the hill again. Not necessarily a bad thing, this being cut off a bit. Less stressful, certainly.

Love y'all...hope you have a lovely weekend,
    Later,

    Good evening!

Lisa - Rest up! It must be mega annoying for you. Over here the NHS has its problems with waiting lists, but we don't have to pay anything, unless we want to jump the queue.

I have a horrible running cold, but I'm not feeling ill, just a bit cranky and tired. Sneezing all the time. We are going out to eat tonight so I haven't got to cook and the restaurant is five minutes walk away. :) My biggest decision is whether to get dressed up or stay in what I'm wearing. :ohwell: I don't think it's a super smart place.

This afternoon's tour started off really slowly with lots of information that we already knew. Plus he had a really strong French accent! ;) However, it picked up for the aristocratic mansions and really delivered for the Mikve, the Jewish ritual bath. It was only discovered in 1985, down in the cellar of a private mansion. Used to be a coal store. It dates from the 12th century. The water was still present, fed by a spring. The synagogue was two floors above. Then we climbed to the top of the triumphal arch and had a view over the city. I didn't get vertigo!

Got to work out my calorie burn now. ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿~

Miriam - so incredibly pleased for you. Are you marking the occasion at all? :flowerforyou:

    Love, Heather

Heather: Enjoy your travels. I love to hear about the wonderful adventures you have.

Mary from MN & Lisa: I googled Tung Oil and found it online at several suppliers including Amazon, Lowe's and Home Depot. Good luck to you! :flowerforyou:

Pip: I love the way you think! Putting Christmas lights on the neck brace is a great idea.

Miriam: Congratulations for being the official mom of two girls. They are lucky girls!

Alison: I listened to Stephanie Plum books during my long commute to and from work many times. I liked the early ones best. I no longer commute, so now I read them on my kindle or get them from the library. Have a safe journey! :flowerforyou:

Barbie: Thanks for your good wishes! We had to cancel our trip north this weekend because we both still feel awful. :ohwell: I hope we'll be able to see the kids before too long. :flowerforyou:

Becca: I hope you are staying warm and dry. I also hope your toe is better. Your home is absolutely festive & glorious! Thank you for sharing the video. I have some some handmade stars that I bought at a craft sale years ago that resemble yours. They aren't up this year but I enjoy them very much. :flowerforyou:

Chris in MA: Congratulations on reaching your goal! I hope you'll stick around and encourage everyone.

Lisa: I hope you rest well and feel better soon. :flowerforyou:

We planned to spend this weekend with DS and DDIL in Washington but had to cancel due to this illness. I'm sad to miss seeing them. They had a lot of fun things planned to do together and I enjoy their company even if we're just sitting around. Yesterday we got the last of their gifts purchased, but not yet wrapped. I'll wrap them today in case we get a chance to see them after all. Right now it is wishful thinking but I'm hoping & wishing for miraculous speedy recovery.

I'm not sure what hit me the worst; fish tacos or margarita, or both. Came home from going out to eat and felt like if I could have thrown up would have felt a little better. First drink I have had since starting on my diet; maybe should not have done that ... huge headache this AM! YUCK! What page is Becca's video on? I've gone back several and still have no found it.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .

    Good Afternoon Ladies,

Heather, so sorry to hear that your DH is really under the weather. I hate that it is putting a damper on your activities and hope he will recover quickly. Enjoy your day of rest. (later) Love the pictures of the trams.

Penny, what a beautiful picture. It just all still seems so foreign to me.

Allison, have a safe and relaxing trip.

Lilly, good luck on getting everything done. I have found it true that you will fill the time allotted to achieve the tasks at hand and it works in reverse as well. Just remember to prioritize so that the most important jobs get done first. Things like tidying can go undone if necessary because with all the people there, no one but you would even know the difference.

CarolNC, sorry the shoulder is bothering you. Did you do anything you know of to cause it? Feel better, my friend. ((((Hugs))))

CarolGA, wow that is a hard way to make a living for DH to haul that stuff, pack/unpack, etc every month. That is a lot of work. Hope the “santas” have a successful day.

Katla, I hate that you, DH and others aren’t feeling well at this busy time of year. Sending healing thoughts and hope you make the right decision about this weekend.

Sylvia, the BD party for the 8 year old sounds like fun. I hope you can take pictures of their plates.

Vicki, I vote for your nap if you aren’t sleeping enough at night. Rest is so important and to be honest, lots of the other things we do can always wait. ((((Hugs))))

Pip, I like Kirby’s face too and that is why I think I like the almost frameless glasses the best. The others are a cool fashion statement but hide too much. Lol I laughed about the wheelchair story because one year before my back surgery, my good friend got me a wheelchair at the Charlotte Christmas show, which covers 3 huge buildings. I, too, thought it would look weird being in the chair with no visible injuries so I wore a boot on my leg that I still had from a previous fracture. Aren’t we all silly? I just hope you both have a good time.

Terri, congrats on increasing the time on the hand bike. Those baby steps add up, so keep up the good work.

Miriam, congrats to you and your new daughters! I’m happy for all 3 of you. This will be a Christmas to remember.

K from KS, congrats on your loss! Trust me, I feel your pain on the lighter but flabbier body. I have never been overly vain, but I admit all this gross, wrinkly, loose skin is not my friend. All I can say is, I’ll take it over being fat! It will slowly get better, so hang in there and enjoy wearing smaller sizes.

CarolGA, I’ve seen the FitBit Flex on sale a few places this week.

Barbie, your graphics are too stinkin’ cute! Congrats on the progress on your weight lifting.

DrKatie, I’m with you. I try so many graphics and things on here that just don’t work. Oh well? Hopefully it’s the thought that counts.

Lisa, good for you on listening to your body. They normally tell us when we need to “back off” or “slow down” and we just too often ignore it. None of us like to feel less than 100%+ but reality sets in sometimes. Good for being good to yourself.

Well, again I got behind and had to read fast so know I missed responses. Just know I’m thinking of all of you and praying for us all. Congrats on all the victories and hope that the rest of us find ours. (victories that is) (((Hugs))) to those that want/need them. You ladies keep me going and give me hope. Just remember this is a journey without a destination. Enjoy the ride!!! I’m off to start some chicken soup. Yum yum.
I hope all of you have a healthy and happy day. rose.gif

    Words I live by:
Savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
    and
Opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.
