What nobody tells you about losing weight

I can so relate to REALLY feeling the cold lol. Recent trip back to NZ I was that cold that I had three layers of clothing on, plus socks, a hot water bottle, two thick blankets AND the heater on and I was freezing. I can laugh about it now but was horrid at the time5

Yeah. It's an adjustment, for sure. I struggle with a little bit of resentment over the sudden interest and attention, much of it from men that wouldn't have given me the time of day a year ago. I am every bit as self contained and reserved as I was a year ago, but almost inexplicably more visible. Except that there is an explanation; I am now an "acceptable" size.
I'm not even done with the weight loss portion of the journey, either. I've got about 30 pounds left to go before maintenance.
It's not necessarily a bad thing, and I honestly don't mind being more visible, but I had gotten very used to being invisible. There is a certain amount of safety and comfort in being invisible that I'm slowly losing along with the weight.
This is what made me mad when I lost weight before... I loved the attention, then I would think about how they didn't give me the time of day before. I am the same person, same sense of humor, just a different size.
Just ticked me off.

This. I have never been so cold in my entire life! We moved to country Victoria 11 years ago and this is the first winter I am seriously considering moving to Queensland. We woke up to snow this morning.
I wear six layers to work, and every night I sleep with four layers, a scarf and beanie on! Lucky Hubby thinks I'm still gorgeous xx

Amen to this comment. People at work try to get me to eat the junk food daily. Cake. Muffins candy. I do NOT want to eat their junk food. But they make me stronger. I eat my yogurt or berries or apple and smile politely then go to gym
I am surprised by how powerful I feel when I control the food in take and the food does not control me
I am surprised that my tailbone hurt doing sit ups in gym class I could actually FEEL my tail bone. Hadn't felt it in years.
I am surprised that I do look in the mirror at the gym when working out and I think to myself. I am almost at my goal. Almost. Slow and steady wins the race
I am surprised that I have jeans that are are huge and I use to wear them last fall.
I am surprised by the emotional roller coaster ride this seven month journey has been but I turned 55 in March and I am healthier. Stronger. More confident then ever before. What a great year!!!
Even though the process was slower then I hoped I am taking the slow and steady route
I am surprised that it took me 55 years to change my lifestyle and become this healthy and more whole person. I am a better person because I chose this journey of health
If I could give a person a gift ... It would be to encourage them .. To commit to becoming a healthier you
I donor think I could have been successful on my own.

Losing weight will definitely mess with your hormones. Fat is known to hold estrogen and when you lose the fat, the estrogen levels change and it takes a while for your body to adapt. It will get better.
So this is what's wrong with me....I am one big zit right now!! It sucks at 42 I thought I'd be long thorough with skin problems I had as a Freshman in high school!!6 -
Even though I've still got a long way to go, I've found that when I feel all out of breath from working out hard, it doesn't hurt or feel like I'm dying anymore . And my recovery (from being out of breath) is a lot more quicker20

With all due respect, as the daughter and niece of longtime wheelchair bound women (advanced MS), you are incorrect in your statement. The only handicapped-related facility that is exclusively for handicapped users (and is thus protected by law) is handicapped parking. Ramps, toilets, elevators, support bars, and so on are available for use by anybody, including the able bodied. If the handicap bathroom stall is the only one available, I will use it with no qualms or guilt whatsoever, and I know that my mother and aunt would not begrudge that in the slightest. Now, if there is a disabled lady waiting for a stall, I would certainly leave the handicap stall open for her, but only in the same way as I would encourage an elderly lady to go ahead of me in line. It's common courtesy, not entitlement. I'm sorry, but as one who lives closely with disabled people, I find your attitude disappointing.

I have realized that DOMS is a good thing (in so far as I have pushed myself hard enough to get DOMS).5

Not to judge ppl who have mental health and overweight. I've been on medication, low dose, and it's so much harder to lose weight when on the meds.7

-I just ate 3 ribs and a chicken wing. Not satisfied &kinda hungry. The 3 cups of water helped with that full feeling. If you gonna pay for crime (cheating on diet) you should have enjoyed it. Now I'ld better work out to burn this off. Im about 500 cal over . It makes me want to swear off cheap junk food and fridge left overs. You daily calories are like money. I wish I had spent it on something gourmet like sushi or my wife's dazzling open omlet. Not those left over ribs (At least its protien). In my defense, I weighted less after werk than before, so I must have burned more calories than the fitbit thinks.
-Food piles up in fridge and goes bad, since your looking at it but not eating it.
-Stairs seem very effective for burning cals and conditioning. I'm back at sprinting up stairs. But its reputed to put a big strain on the heart and hell on knees . But a 16 y/o did the same stairs (6 hospital flights) without a drop of fatigue- Damn.
-I finally learned how potent in mood and energy a carb high is after eating a chicken cutlet on a roll. Sugar/ Carbs must be very addicting. Its better than coffee.
-I never understood how a sport injury kills you. My knees are bothering me and all I want to do is a body abusing intense workout: Running or Incline training. Endophine/ Runners high addiction.
- I need new pants damn. But Im still losing weight.
- A patient told me to stop losing weight, or would stop looking handsome (she hasnt see me in a year, and wasnt sure it was me). Im not stopping till i reach a healthy low risk BMI9 -

On the first point, I have learned that our local hospice/charity shops are my friend. You get clothes that look brand new/rarely worn at a 10th the price of new clothes.
On the second, I don't mind much when it is somebody I haven't seen in a year that makes such comments - as I realize the change is quite big, but I have been hearing similar comments from colleagues/friends even family over the last month. I have now learned to just say I'm not looking to lose more weight only the last bit of fat whilst building muscle. I have also found this works best if I have a burger/packet of chips/etc in my hand when I say it ;-)
Ps. I am actually still cutting at present, as I have another 4-5 kg to lose before reaching my goal weight - which is still at a very healthy BMI of 21.5

In late April, I went shopping for a bunch of new spring/summer clothes cause I’d already lost 25 lbs and knew that my summer stuff just wasn’t going to fit and my job requires that I look put together.
It’s now mid-July and I’ve lost another 20lbs. Most of that stuff already doesn’t fit or is starting to look sloppy. I think I’m going to have to go shopping again very soon.
I still have another 30-35 lbs to go – This is one expensive adventure!

In late April, I went shopping for a bunch of new spring/summer clothes cause I’d already lost 25 lbs and knew that my summer stuff just wasn’t going to fit and my job requires that I look put together.
It’s now mid-July and I’ve lost another 20lbs. Most of that stuff already doesn’t fit or is starting to look sloppy. I think I’m going to have to go shopping again very soon.
I still have another 30-35 lbs to go – This is one expensive adventure!
I cannot stress stores like Goodwill enough. . I've gone through 3 complete wardrobes in 92 pounds.20 -
I'm only half way through my journey but some of the more interesting and hopefully some humorous things I have noticed.
1. Taking progress pics is exciting. I used to hate taking pics but now it's almost daily.
1a. Posting said pics on social media is still challenging.
2. Nicknames change from big man to praying mantis, stick, etc.
3. Coworkers start text chains to bring me in food because they don't think I am eating right.
3a. I have to tell said coworkers that I am trying to eat less but I still got a pan of spaghetti.
4. My backyard walks cut down on the need to mow but I have to make new paths each week.
4a. Yeah I need to find a more exciting routine than walking/jogging up and down the yard.
5. Getting in and out of cars is easier. Especially when a car parks right up on your door.
6. Healthy food tastes better, and sodas taste worse.
7. I have to move around now to keep sane. Moving before made me tired.
8. It surprises me when fashionable clothes fit well. Also it is easier to keep a shirt tucked in all day.
8a. A belt is a must with old clothes. It was interesting trying to hold up loose pants and even undergarments that one time. Sorry for the TMI.
9. Not sure if people treat me any better but I did land a new job.

I began my journey 55 days ago and I although haven't reached my goals, I did quit drinking sodas 4 years ago. I no longer crave sodas and they are no longer an option at anytime. When I see the way people are with sodas, I now feel proud of myself for not needing them. I know this will help me with my 100 pound journey.14

I agree with the other posters about thrift stores. NSV every 4 weeks when I re-donate the clothes from the last shopping trip and buy new ones. So fun! A new wardrobe every month...8

I found 5 pairs of designer denim jeans at Goodwill!! Grand total $24 bucks!!!15 -
That if you use the same effort to move around as when you were heavier as you do now, it feels like you are trying to throw yourself down the stairs.12
