I can run in cold weather... well cold for central Alabama.... in the mid 20's.... I do okay, but when the cold wind kicks up... that hurts.

Central Alabama? I'm in northern Alabama (Huntsville/Madison).

    Montgomery!

Cool I'm in Northern AL too with @stoshew71

    @kristinegift good luck this weekend!!!

Looks like getting my run in during the mild part of the storm was the right idea.

@MNLittleFinn It looks windy, too. It's very windy here in SW Iowa today also. 16 mph winds with gusts of 20 mph. Good thing we don't have the snow to go with that...

@midwesterner85 - Where in SW Iowa are you? I grew up in (and my parents still live in) NW Missouri. They live on a farm near Maysville/King City/Albany/Pattonsburg area, if you're familiar with it.

BTW...It's windy and cool down here in Oklahoma, too. High of 51 today, with 15-20mph winds and a low of 29 overnight. Our first freeze warning of the year! May just have to break out the cold weather gear and go for a short run in the morning.

20-30mph winds, gusts to 50. I spent a lot of time on Google looking for exercises that would engage my gluten, and all I had to do was wait for the first snowfall. Got thr driveway cleared for my wife. 50 minutes of XT for the day in addition to my run.

Supposed to get snow flurries tonight into tomorrow morning. I'm thinking about getting up early to run tomorrow so I can say that I've run in the snow.

@midwesterner85 - I know Clarinda. My great grandmother lived in New Market (for anyone interested, that's like 5 miles or so down the road from Clarinda)! I also went to high school in Grant City (Worth County Schools), and we played some of the Iowa teams in sports...I remember lots of track meets on the Iowa side.

@MNLittleFinn - That looks like weather I classify as, "Wait till the plows are done before running." That's not because I'm unwilling to run on roads that need to be plowed; it's because I don't like the idea of encountering an active plow at the same time as there's traffic in the other direction and no place to dodge onto the side of the road. There's tough, and there's stupid. I try to avoid stupid, though I'm not always successful.

    November Running Totals (miles)
    11/1 – 1.77 easy
    11/2 – 2.09 easy
    11/3 – 2.43 (1.67 + 0.76) easy
    11/4 – rest day
    11/5 – 2.60 easy
    11/6 – 3.19 (2.60 + 0.59) easy
    11/7 – rest day
    11/8 – 2.15 easy
    11/9 – 3.10 easy
    11/10 – 2.04 easy
    11/11 – rest day
    11/12 – 3.70 easy
    11/13 – 3.64 easy
    11/14 – 3.05 easy
    11/15 – 3.38 warmup + easy speed work
    11/16 – rest day
    11/17 – 4.76 warmup + easy speed work
    11/18 – 4.25 easy + one stride

November total to date – 42.15

Nominal Challenge Goal – 30 miles
Real Goals: Continue recovery. Complete Race with Grace 10K on Thanksgiving without setting recovery back, even if I have to walk most of it.

Today's notes – We got near a record high temperature today. It was 66° F (19° C) when I set out to run the route I had considered on Monday. Kept it easy for most of the route, but felt good enough to stride the last 150m or so. Average pace came in at 8:08, with mile splits of 8:23, 8:08, 7:58, and 8:15. The last quarter mile averaged faster, because of the stride.

Didn't really feel the Achilles fatiguing until about 3.5 miles. Stretching and recovery went smoothly. I probably could have got away with 5 miles, and I certainly had the energy to run that far; but I was conservative with how my leg felt. Time enough to stretch the distance a little next Thursday.

January 1, 2016 Resolution Run 7.5 mile (Mendon, NY) finished in 53:58

I do most of my trail running at Lake of Three Fires. Always see a lot of deer, only see other people in the summer. But the horses really tear that trail up and leave muddy patches riddled with holes. Now that it is dry and the ground is cold, those holes can be dangerous.

@MobyCarp that's why I got my run in before the real snow this morning! Even I'm not crazy enough to run in this weather. My long might wait until Sunday. Between high winds and shoveling tomorrow, I don't think I'll want to run.

Ran 6 easy miles while waiting for some laundry this afternoon. Was still warm as I ran during the hottest part of the day, but appreciating the lower humidity this time of year.

I'm still figuring out my 2017 race schedule (likely a Jan/Feb half-marathon and/or duathlon, mid spring marathon - Flying Pig?, early summer half ironman - Raleigh 70.3, late summer/early fall ironman - Lou/Coeur, then late fall marathon - NYC?/Marine Corps?). Still, I need to make sure I have a good low stress recovery/base cycle for the next two months so I can recover from 20 hours of racing during the past 8 weeks before ramping up again.

    11/1 - 5 miles
    11/3 - 1 mile
    11/4 - 2 miles
11/5 - 27 miles (26.2 plus two very long runs through transition)
    11/9 - 3 miles
    11/13 - 22 miles (10K race + 2 miles of re-positioning + 14 miles of marathon pacing)
    11/17 - 5 miles
    11/18 - 6 miles

    Total: 71 miles
    Goal: 140 miles
    Remaining: 69 miles

    2016 Race Schedule:
    Disney Marathon - Jan 6 - 3:29:09
    Gasparilla 15K - Feb 20 - 1:01:59
    Ironman 70.3 Florida - Apr 10 - 5:07:51
    Pittsburgh Marathon - May 1 - 3:08:25
    Ironman 70.3 Augusta - Sep 25 - 4:43:56
    Chicago Marathon - Oct 9 - 3:04:57
    Ironman Florida - Nov 5 - 10:21:27 (3:38:20 marathon time)

@midwesterner85 - Be careful on those horse trails. I know what you mean! As both a runner and a horse owner, I can say that I really wish other horseback riders would just avoid the public trails when they're very muddy. Maybe they just don't realize the [long lasting] damage their 1000lb animals' feet cause to muddy trails, but jeez...have a little courtesy!

3 super easy, really chatty miles. FINALLY my shin/ankle have got their act together! Not a trace of discomfort on this run. It's either because a) I stood for an hour during a meeting today and my ankle got realigned or b) the ankle was a physical manifestation of my anxiety about race day logistics as it stopped hurting about 30 mins after everything got finalized. Either way, I'm happy that I'm feeling actually, really, totally 100%. I've never felt this healthy or strong before a marathon before, so I'm hoping it yields excellent results. PLUS the weather no longer has rain in the forecast, just wind, and wind is a beast I know and respect/love. Bring. On. The. Marathon.

Kick butt on your race this weekend. I want to see a BQ out of you (no pressure or anything). hahahaha

@Stoshew71 I think everyone I've ever met knows I'm gunning hard for a BQ this weekend. No pressure ;)

And thanks for the good luck wishes from: @lporter229 and @7lenny7 and @karllundy and @OSUbuckeye906 and @skippygirlsmom!! And apologies to anyone who's good luck wishes I missed! Hopefully I'll have exciting Boston Qualifier news on Sunday!
