Allie so sorry about the snow. Glad you are pacing yourself. Been there. We are having more icy conditions this year then the heavy wet snow. Both are awful in there own way. I found when we had that kind of snow is where to you put it and and intersections can get bad too. Our city put poles on the fire hydrants and relies on the homeowner whose property it is to clear it. Safe travels for Tom and for you if you need to drive.

Just heard from DDIL with an invitation for the 18th February. Hooray! Hooray! We will leave home early on the Saturday and get there just after 10.30. Then play all day , stay the night and leave about 11 am on the Sunday to get to DH's friend in South London for lunch. That's only next weekend! Can't wait!
Love to Olivia and all in the family.
Just eaten my superdelicious mushroom risotto. DH always has an orgasm. It's his favourite meal. I count 400 calories for it.
I have had a bit more energy today. Had a nice nap though.

Hello all -
Another week is almost gone. Does it seem like time speeds up as we get older?
Remember when Christmas took forrrreeeeevvvvver to come when you were a kid? Now it seems like it was yesterday and tomorrow at the same time. I think that I notice it the most with my grandchildren. I suppose since I was involved on a daily basis with my children I didn't notice it quite as much but the grandkids... even though I see them every week they are growing up way too fast! Good thing I'm having more soon.
Karen - Olivia is adorable. My prayers that all goes well and she is soon home as well as for the stressed family relations.
Went back to my trainer today. It's been four months off with my shoulder and wow, it's like starting from day one. Even though I've done the two half-marathons last month it isn't the same as an intense workout. I worked with him and then did my PT exercises for my shoulder. Those take an hour so it was a good two hours at the gym. Need to clean my house but decided to get a fabric cut out for a dress real quick seeing as it would leave threads all over the floor. I've been sewing baby clothes and am now getting a "dress-up fancy dress" made for the older sister, who is going to struggle not being the center of attention in a couple of weeks. It's something I promised her a long time ago and she has not let me forget it. lol Those youngsters have minds like a vise!

Hello all! Have been reading and stealing all of the laughs I can from the memes and jokes. Marni- I loved the sled dog story on the video! Too funny! Karen VA- Olivia is adorable! I hope she gets well and is able to come home soon!
Lynette- I also suffered from the migraines that made me physically sick and hide from the light and noise; entering menopause scared them away for me, as well! Heather- You are so lucky to have a DH who reacts orgasmically to your mushroom dishes. Mine would react spasmodically, as he is allergic to mushrooms and I would have to whack him with a couple of Epi-pens! I do love mushrooms though. Try to order mushroom something whenever we go out. As well as a fish or seafood (which he is also allergic to).
I feel like my eating has been all over the place; but it really hasn't. I think I am thinking about food a lot. You know, I want something creamy, fattening and warm to make me feel good. Luckily, I don't really have anything like that in the house. I made up some home made gingersnaps on Tuesday night and had those (I think it was Tues.). But only 6 and Tim and Colin were kind enough to finish them off. I am keeping up on my water intake and still doing my 30 day challenge work outs in the morning (30 minutes). My pants are looser around the waist (NSV), so I am excited to weigh in on Sunday!
One thing I forgot about in handling a death are the phone calls. Oh my goodness, the phone. I got a hold of close family members by phone to notify them. But I used social media and texting for the cousins, old friends, etc., but really my phone has been ringing and pinging off the hook with people wanting to offer condolences, memorial info, meals, etc. All very thoughtful and kind, and appreciated. But, when Tim and Colin are here, I just have them do the talking. Too much talking. Well, that's all I have. I am enjoying reading everyone's stuff! But I feel like my brains are so scrambled, I could serve them with bacon and call it breakfast! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)5 -
I try to find a silver lining whenever I am handed a pile of organic fertilizer.
I spent yesterday carefully packing up a show quilt for shipment to a show in Lancaster in March. I spent a lot of my time on the floor creating a drop proof, tear proof, collapse proof box that measured 28" x 28"x 6 inches tall. Lugged it to the local FedEx office, about died when I was told the shipping cost due to the high insurance value, but shipped anyway.
While I was killing time so the clerk could get things entered into the computer I casually read my driver's license and came to a very sicking conclusion, it had expired last month. No notice from DMV.
At 8am I was at the local DMV office, seems this state does not notify you to renew your driver's license. Not a peep. Where I had lived for the past 60 years, you were sent a renewal notice 30 days before your license expired. Again, assumed the world went around the same way everywhere and got a hard jolt of reality.
The silver lining? Since I had to get a new driver's license, I was able to adjust my weight **down** to my current weight so the new license shows me significantly lighter that I was 4 1/2 years ago. Great NSV moment!

canookie - I broke my tailbone at a 90° angle in, during cheerleading practice in PE. That summer I got pushed into the shallow end and broke it again. Both times I could not stand up. When I got pushed into the pool; thankfully, BF realized my head was under water and I was not getting up, so she came in and got me. All the lifeguards, including us, were horsing around. The tailbone break at cheerleading practice in PE, required my football coach and some of his players to slide a hard back chair under me; turn me back over and load me into the bed of a pick-up truck with all of them holding me so that I did not and could not move on the way to the small community hospital. Then went to Macon to the ER in a hearse. That was the ‘only’ form of emergency transport we had in town at the time. Thankfully, it had a 4” pad on the gurney. I’ll never understand a pad on a gurney in the back of a hearse; and, a hard board you are strapped to in an EMT bus. Sprung it during delivery of my 2 sons; and, I can tell it is going to either rain or get cold several days before it comes.
My sister’s 2nd child only weighed 3lb + ?? ounces. The only reason she was allowed to bring her home with her was because she was not a ‘first time mother’.
Marnie – The one this year in St. Simons, Ga is absolutely gorgeous; I watched a video on them remodeling it; they used a lot of ‘pecky cypress’ wood on a lot of the ceilings; our great room is paneled in the same wood. It is rare and very expensive. Ours is stained brownish; at times I wish we had gone with the gray. We have removed most of the stain on the outside of the house, also cypress, and letting it age to gray naturally. I’m not sure it will change under the porches however. Louis might have to try to get most of the stain out of the wood with a pressure washer with bleach and stain it gray to match.
patceoh – I have migraines as well; but, I cannot watch flashing lights or psychedelic patterns because they can ‘throw me into a seizure’. I get nauseous and smell strange odors that nobody else smells. I make sure I lay down because it generally means I am having an ‘aura’ and I must get still to try to get ahead of a seizure. When I have a migraine, I have to go to bed, after taking Max-Alt and 1 ½ muscle relaxants. Room has to be dark and cold (although I cover up). If I wake up with it, I usually have to go into town and get a shot that will knock me out and starts working about the time I get home. Within 30 minutes.
I used to use an Epipen to self-medicate; but, they are out of sight in price; so I take other Rx’d meds now. I was taken off the Epipen because once I shot myself more to the side of my thigh and into a blood vessel; and, went right to the floor. Supposed to give it straight down into your thigh. Could not move; but, finally was able to pull myself to the phone by the bed, pull it down off the night stand, and called my DOS to come put me back in the bed.
Heather – One of my HS classmates’ sons was oversea somewhere – maybe in China and had to have some sort of emergency surgery. They had to be paid before they would do it. His twin went and wiped out their account, one of the other workers wiped out his, they charged a lot of credit cards, and still had to come up with more money … my HS friend wired the rest; and, then went out there to be with him. He’s a MD, so as soon as he could travel he brought him home. When he went over there; his Dad and Mom got passports so if they had to go over their quickly; they already had passports.
Lanette – Swearing doesn’t both me unless someone uses God’s name in vain. I can tolerate the F-bomb; but, using God’s name in vain is a deadly sin and I don't want to be standing near them if they get 'zapped'. That reminds me of when my Mother and Daddy went to Russia on a tour. Daddy asked a Russian about something; and then did the “OK” sign which is America means, "I understand" - is putting your pointer finger and thumb together in a circle with all the other fingers straight. The tour guide ran over and explained to the Russian that Daddy did not mean anything about it and why. Daddy was just standing there looking at them – talking in Russian. Then the tour guide told my Daddy that ‘sign’ is about like the ‘single-digit-middle-finger salute' in other countries (bird finger, middle finger). My niece who is deaf said they would go to “Fuddruckers’s” and in sign language it is like shooting the finger; but holding your elbow down so you can’t move the arm (even though you are really trying to).
Karen in Virginia – Saying prayers and sending {{{{{HUGS}}}}} for Olivia and her Mother. Keep us posted. Was Olivia a preemie? I know that estrangement from a ‘child’ is very difficult. My DH has not heard word one from his daughter since his Mother passed away 10 years ago this April. Mainly because she got ‘greedy’ and did some things that bordered on Elder Abuse and Fraud; by taking things out of the estate that had been promised to others, and should have been left there so that the Probate of the Will could be done and things divided. We don’t have but about 5 pictures of my DH growing up (and his Mom took lots of them) and the only picture of his Mother that we have is one of her and his Dad and him shortly after he was born; and those taken at our wedding. It’s been hurtful because there is no reason for it; and, there is a grandchild involved. I would have loved to been a fly on the wall to hear what she had to say about our not being in their lives. I'm sure it has come up a lot especially around her mother. But, after 10 years, we are probably as much as ‘dead’ to her as she is to us. We could have taken her to court and made her put it all back into the estate; but, since she didn’t and since DH and DBnL were the Executors of her Will … it has never been through probate.
Olivia looks like a pretty big baby, not a preemie.
Karen – How is Reid doing?
Lisa and others – All this talking about cheese and crackers is making me hungry.
Michele – Love the pelicans. How big of a piece is this?
Tammy – it is not too far back up from the post where you are talking about missing the picture of Olivia – you’ll just have to ‘click’ on it for it to be big enough to see.
Carol – Have you tried ‘highlighting’ them and making them darker? Could have something to do with your settings. I know on my computer when I go to change colors, it gives me different shades of the same color. It might be from ‘how’ someone who sent it to you and how they have their settings. Glad you found a solution.

Very exciting day!!!! ORDERED MY ELLIPTICAL TOAY!! Should have it by February 20th. Can't wait!11

Lenora - I found it! thank you.0

Starr in Ontario - what is Acti-labs 7 day shred? is it like one of those weight loss detox or shake/supplement plans? Yah for your own elliptical! that will be sweet!
I feel AMAZING!!!! My shred will be over on Saturday and I am determined to stay eating healthy. I have learned some new ways to do this and hope to keep using them.
Also.. great NSV!! Yesterday I was stressed to maximum capacity at work and my normal way to cope would be to go home and open a bottle of wine and drink it all!! Last night I stuck to my water and vented to hubby. Poor man he looked like a deer in the headlights lol.
I decided that just chopping veggies with a little aggression was a better plan!

Well today I figured my macros perfectly! 50% carbs/ 20% proteins/ and 29% fats. Lord knows where that 1% got to... I had figured it perfectly then dear husband reminded me that a had eaten 2 Hershey kisses at the tax lady's office. Dangnabbit!
Stopped off at the grocery store to buy some artisan bread for spaghetti night. My dear husband snuck in a 3 cheese artisan loaf in the shopping basket, as well as a bottle of Coke! He was snacking and sipping all the way home, and I had neither! Also had to make copies of some pics we took of the teenager for their senior board in the senior hallway, plus another for the yearbook. The other two sons the school did all that! Plus the eldest sons highschool rule was the guys wore Tux's in the senior pics. It made the pages look nice. Here the graduating class is 30 students, so the price is mostly on the parents.
Here he is, hat and all. His trademark.
Hugs my fitness pals!

Has anyone on here participated in any of the MFP challenges? I just signed up for the Biggest Loser Challenge that begins on Monday. Very curious how it will go, and what I'm in for! ha! thought maybe it would add some accountability to my life now that I'm re-committing!
Tammy in Montana
I have participated in several challenges and each was only as good as the people who participated. I was successful but in all cases, the number who finished the challenge was significantly lower than the number that started.

Starr68 - wow glad you're feeling so great with it! I have friends who do Isagenics and I've heard of some others, but not that one! yah! Congrats and keep it up! oh and I vent to my husband every night! lol
grandmallie bahahaha " stick a fork in me ..." I'm loving all these sayings I haven't heard. You're clever!
becca - cute guy - he looks sweet! love the hat!
barbie - thank you - makes sense. I see on this challenge they stress - in bold - and multiple times to please not sign up unless you can commit to seeing it through. I plan to finish!

Hello,
Had a good day at work. For some reason, I am starving. Don't know if it is the cold weather, the stress at work, hormones or all of the above. Really struggling to stay on track. I am afraid if I unleash my desires, I may go wild lol! So someone please order me to smarten up, sometimes I need that. Thanks.
Whispers, Homeybunny Welcome
Karen oh Karen so sorry about this difficult time - praying for all of you. Olivia is so precious.
Becca it's so nice to think if our group as a community
Heather would you share your risotto recipe?
Marcelyn you are quite talented - a marathoner and a seamstress, impressive.
Charlene that is a great NSV story
Starr good job! It is so easy to make poor choices when we're stressed
Take care Sarah, Ontario, Canada

Marni: We have friends who decided to move to Montana from Oregon two or three years ago and they love it. :flowerforyou:
Sharon in Lethbridge: I'm not very likely to hug strangers, either. :noway:
Ravi: Befriending people is a little different than joining this group, which is also a group of friends. Some of us are members here and also individual friends who see each other's posts on the MFP home page. You join this group simply by posting. I hope you'll bookmark us so that you can easily find us whenever you need encouragement.
Allison: Stay safe in the snowstorm. If you have blizzard conditions stay inside your house. (((HUGS)))
Heather: CONGRATULATIONS on getting your insurance forms dealt with! I am so inclined to procrastinate over things like that. You are excellent at taking care of things and a wonderful role model.
Lanette: Jesus is easy to love. His people aren't always easy to love--and that includes me. :ohwell: We drove into Portland for a follow up appointment with the eye doctor. The roads were all pretty good, but we stayed out of lanes closest to hillsides just incase of landslides.
pitegny: Thanks for the quinoa suggestions.
Lisa: I can definitely see you as Tigger.
Karen in VA: I'm sending prayers for Olivia and the whole family.
Carol in GA: I'm an apple user and Safari is my browser. Under "advanced" I have options to increase the page size. I was able to increase the MFP site to 200% and it made all the words big and bold. See whether your browser will let you increase page sizes. It might be worth a try. (((hugs)))
Rita: Holey Moley! You are getting ready for an adventure. WTG!!!
Whispers: Welcome to a great group! Begin where you are and go forward. We're very chatty and you might feel like you've been assigned a massive novel if you were to go back to the beginning. Just my 2 cents worth. :flowerforyou:
Yvonne in TX: "The people falling on ice video was hilarious! It wouldn't have been nearly so much fun without all the laughter in the background. Nothing like a good pratfall! It's not so funny when you're the one doing the falling, though." Amen! I have done the falling and ended up with one broken wrist from one black ice caused accident, and the other wrist from the same kind of fall a few years later. Neither incident was funny at all from my point of view. :grumble:
Heather: Hooray for an invitation to visit the Grandchildren. YAY!!!
Charleen in CO: Congratulations on a true to you slimmer driver's license! Talk about fabulous proof of success. What a victory!!!! Time to celebrate. Do you choose flowers or clothes?
honeybunny: There are two unwritten rules for this group that can be summed up with two words, kindness and courtesy. Welcome to a great group!
DD needed a copy of her birth certificate for a job application. It is in the mail and should be there in a few days. Yay! We had an adventure going to the records office and getting the birth certificate. The process was easy, once we found the place and the people were very nice.
DH is doing so well after his surgery and we now have the next one on the schedule. YAY! It has already been a miraculous change for him. :flowerforyou:

Heather posted a quote similar to this that I wanted to use, but I couldn't recall it quite right. I went online and found this one.
"So many of us believe in perfection, which ruins everything else, because the perfect is not only the enemy of the good; it's also the enemy of the realistic, the possible and the fun."

Charleen, I remember that time when I had to renew my licence. I could have done it online and they would have jsut used a copy of my old picture. But oh no, not that time. It was wonderful to see that new picture and new weight. Congratulations. I think I was reminded of my need to renew by some one at a store when I had to show proof of ID.
As far as friending people, I usually don't do it either. It's not that I don't want some one as a friend. I just don't go to my MFP home page. When some one sends me a friend request I try to message them and let them know that I am pretty much just on here only. I ask if they are over 50 or close and if so invite them here.
I have been sitting here reading all the things happening to all of you, weather, really bad weather, really really bad weather, falls, sick family members. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you and your families.
Sitting here watching last nights Code Black. I love this show as much as This is us. I think tonight is the season finale. Wow! Just saw a kiss!!!!! That was unexpected.
Take care my cyber sisters Joyce, Indiana where it is sunny but cold.0 -
Sarah - I use the normal, classic risotto recipe. I use a small handful of dried porcini to give a full flavour, soaked and chopped, plus fresh mushrooms. And some frozen peas.
Instead of butter for the "finishing" I use Philly Light plus some parmesan. This saves calories. I do have a little jar of truffles and I dot a couple on the top when it is finished. An aquired taste, but we love it. Tonight I served sugar snap peas as a side.
I hate cooking in the evening so I always do as much prep as I can after lunch. I take the risotto to the point where I add the white wine, bubble it and leave the rest of the cooking for later. Actually I use Extra Dry Martini Bianco as I don't want to open a bottle.
Katla - I think of myself as an ACE procrastinator. I leave things to the point when not doing it becomes more painful than doing it. I still haven't reopened the laptop I bought before Christmas and used once.
Just bought myself a dress on line. I've been wanting a red dress for some time and decided to order it. I can always return it free of charge. I like it because it is fit and flare, therefore hopefully comfortable and it has elbow length sleeves for my batwings. Hope it fits. I hope to wear it for a restaurant dinner for my niece's 18th birthday party.

WHY DID THE CHICKEN CROSS THE ROAD? (Updated)
DONALD TRUMP: All Mexican chickens who cross this road will be sent back to Mexico!
BARACK OBAMA: Let me be perfectly clear. If the chickens like their eggs they can keep their eggs. No chicken will be required to cross the road to surrender her eggs. Period.
JOHN McCAIN: My friends, the chicken crossed the road because he recognized the need to engage in cooperation and dialogue with all the chickens on the other side of the road.
HILLARY CLINTON: What difference at this point does it make why the chicken crossed the road.
DICK CHENEY: Where's my gun?
COLIN POWELL: Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road.
BILL CLINTON: I did not cross the road with that chicken.
AL GORE: I invented the chicken.
JOHN KERRY: Although I voted to let the chicken cross the road, I am now against it! It was the wrong road to cross, and I was misled about the chicken's intentions. I am not for it now, and will remain against it.
AL SHARPTON: Why are all the chickens white?
DR. PHIL: The problem we have here is that this chicken won't realize that he must first deal with the problem on this side of the road before it goes after the problem on the other side of the road. What we need to do is help him realize how stupid he is acting by not taking on his current problems before adding any new problems.
OPRAH: Well, I understand that the chicken is having problems, which is why he wants to cross the road so badly. So instead of having the chicken learn from his mistakes and take falls, which is a part of life, I'm going to give this chicken a NEW CAR so that he can just drive across the road and not live his life like the rest of the chickens.
ANDERSON COOPER: We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road.
NANCY GRACE: That chicken crossed the road because he's guilty! You can see it in his eyes and the way he walks.
MARTHA STEWART: No one called me to warn me which way the chicken was going. I had a standing order at the Farmer's Market to sell my eggs when the price dropped to a certain level. No little bird gave me any insider information.
DR SEUSS: Did the chicken cross the road? Did he cross it with a toad? Yes, the chicken crossed the road, but why it crossed I've not been told.
ERNEST HEMINGWAY: To die in the rain, alone.
GRANDPA: In my day we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough for us.
BARBARA WALTERS: Isn't that interesting? In a few moments, we will be listening to the chicken tell, for the first time, the heartwarming story of how it experienced a serious case of molting, and went on to accomplish its lifelong dream of crossing the road.
ARISTOTLE: It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.
JOHN LENNON: Imagine all the chickens in the world crossing roads together, in peace.
BILL GATES: I have just released e-Chicken2017, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents and balance your checkbook. Internet Explorer is an integral part of e-Chicken2017. This new platform is much more stable and will never reboot.
ALBERT EINSTEIN: Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road move beneath the chicken?
COLONEL SANDERS: Did I miss one?
Mmmmm - is this a case of [pun intended] or a case of [no pun intended]? Certainly not a 'political' statement
Watch out for those road crossing chickens; like 'deer' they don't always cross the road at the signs that say "Chicken Crossing" nor do the deer cross the road at the "Deer Crossing" signs. This last statement was actually asked by someone ... DUH!!!???!!!

Toni - I want to do a water aerobics class. DH discourages me. He thinks I'll start and drop it - since I'm not much of a morning person. I think I'll have it to look forward to and will find renewed energy from it. I'm having trouble with arthritic knees and think it would be good for me. And.. if I start and drop it... who cares. At least then I'll know whether it's for me or if I need a different class. How sad is it - I've driven to the YMCA -3 times but never went inside? ;-)2
-
Joyce and Charleen - Not this last time I renewed my license; because I had to provide documentation in order to get it renewed; but, the time before it. I looked nothing like I did on the previous license and had been renewed by mail. Taking the old picture and weight from one I had done 5 years before that. My hair had turned gray, was a lot shorter, I already have issues at some places because I don't use "Nancy" as my signature.
Went to the State Patrol Office with a friend who was getting hers redone because she had remarried. I showed it to the nice young black trooper and asked if I could have a 'new' current picture on it. He told me they only did it if the license was broken. I held it in my hand and popped it in two pieces. He smiled and said, 'you're a quick study' ... sign here. So I then had a picture that actually 'looked' like me. The one I have now, looks like me; but, I must have 'lied' about my weight! LOL!
Lenora0 -
Lenora hahaha thanks for the laugh!
Toni - I say go do it! they likely offer a one-time free trial class anyway?! then you won't be out anything if you don't go back!
grandmallie - wow that's a lot of steps! you were shoveling snow for all that? you will prob be sore tomorrow! wow!
Heather in UK - maybe you should post a pic in your new red dress when it comes! I love that you wanted something special and went for it!0 -
