Was a little worried about how last night's hard run (8 mpm descending to 7:15 mpm) would affect this morning's run + strength session, but I actually felt great. Maybe a little sluggish at first during the warm up, but a little FloRida cranked up got me going and feeling super. Plus, (and I usually don't have my "official" weigh in until Saturday) I was pleasantly surprised to be -1.4 on the scale. Not a bad start to Thursday at all...Hope everyone made it through the storm OK (NE US)!7 -
Last night at the gym while I was waiting for a rowing machine to open up, I tried some of the upper body weight machines. Oooooof, I am feeling that today.5

Last night I did feel a little more sore and tired than prior nights, plus a cold/allergy/sinus thing that came on in the evening kept me from getting the best nights rest. But when I woke I was no longer sore anywhere, and felt I could run. I turned around at the 1 mile point deciding to cut the run to 2 miles, which I think was for the best. I walked over half of that last mile.
Rest day tomorrow! As long as I'm not coming down with anything I'll see how things go next week. I'm hopeful to do 3 miles each running day next week.

@MobyCarp -wow - can't imagine all that snow!
I didn't have much time today as I had to head out to a programming competition (with my students).
But I was able to get in 3.6 miles. I haven't made it to strength training this week. UGH! I really want to go 3x a week but so much grading and other stuff going on. I should at least plank/squat/lunge at home, but it hasn't happened yet.

@ctlaws44 - Cold in SE Virginia? Oh, no! I have to run 8K in Virginia Beach on Saturday! (Forecast low 41º, high 63º. I think I'll survive the rain forecast for that day.) It's a bit chillier here; see picture and tale of woe below.
That's exciting! Yes, the weather down here can change REALLY fast. we're just getting over a cold snap. I Don't trust the forecast more than 24 hours out. Hope the weather is good for y'all. Safe travels. You're going to do great!!2 -

Felt good to get out and get some decent miles in! Most of it was done w/a stomachache due to the stupid antibiotics I'm on, but whatevs. Also, forgot to charge my Garmin, so it died 5.8 miles in, grrr. Does a run still count if it hasn't been tracked by your Garmin? Ugh.
Did the whole run in my new zero drop Altras, just because of patchy snow. I had only run 2 miles in them prior to this. I am shocked at how comfortable they are, no calf distress or anything. My only guess as to why is because I'm already not a heel-striker and I kinda have calves of steel from dancing for so many years and lately doing 270lb+bodyweight calf raises at the gym, lol.7 -

Thanks everyone who commented about my son. I've not heard anything from the police so I assume they have no leads. I find myself eyeing up every red 4 door in town, first to see if it's being driving by an older lady, then looking at the front end for damage. I want so bad to bust this gal. I don't even care about the money, it's the principle of the matter.
I took the bike into the shop yesterday and as I suspected, the frame is bent and it can't be fixed. Specialized does have some sort of crashed bike discount though, so we can get 20% off a replacement bike, which will help. The shop has the exact same bike in stock so we'll be able to pick it up tomorrow night after work.
No run last night as I had to run errands and do Dad stuff.
I climbed 90 floors today at work today, split over 3 breaks. I've decided I to enter my stairwell adventures into Strava manually so I can track the elevation with my run elevation. To do that I log the stair climbing as runs, but with just 0.1 mile distance.
Hoping for a 7+ mile trail run tonight after I make dinner, but may have to skip it.6 -
Really feeling my knee for some reason. Going to see how it is tomorrow and might just try 2-3 slow miles.1

Nominal Challenge Goal – 225 miles
Real Goals: Stay healthy. Train well toward Boston. Run well at the USATF Masters 8K Championship in Virginia Beach.
Today's notes – Got out at 10:30 or so, at 27º F with 16-20 mph W wind. The roads were clear, but the shoulders were snow packed or slush covered most places. I decided against my normal 10 mile route because I need about 1000 meters of sidewalk, and I suspected it would not be cleared. (Drove past there later; it wasn't.)
Wore my Peregrines, and physically I was okay. But the strong W wind for a mile and a half early got to me, and the traffic was getting on my nerves because I couldn't tell what the drivers were going to do. I had originally thought 15 miles, and set out on a 7.2 mile route to start. Then I got to thinking 12 miles, and by the time I was nearing 5 miles I thought maybe just 7. As fate had it, I crossed a key intersection in stride so I could add a nice hill and come out around 8 miles. When I got to my driveway, I was done. There was no physical issue, but emotionally I'd had it with the heavy trail shoes and the slush and the drivers veering over the white line onto the shoulder. Call it the after effects of the storm on my mental state.
I was kind of surprised when I looked at the stats that both pace and HR looked like a well managed easy run. I just wasn't feeling it today. But any run is better than no run, and 8 miles will just have to be good enough. Tomorrow is a long drive to Virginia Beach. If I'm lucky, we'll get there early enough for a shakedown run in the evening. If I'm not, the next run will be a pre-race warmup on Saturday.
I did see that Saturday's race has a name. The registration confirmation email from USATF says the location is "Shamrock 8k - Virginia Beach, VA, USA". Maybe I'll see some local runners who aren't competing in it as a USATF event. The Lilac 10K in Rochester is like that; it is a traditional local race in addition to being the USATF Niagara Region 10K championship.

Went exploring west of town today, part of which was on gravel roads. Felt awesome to be out in the wild like a beast!
(OK it was only a few kms out of town, but humour me. )
I did Body Balance afterwards, and this afternoon I practiced my handstands.

I'm curious here. Did it FEEL easy to you? Your description makes it sound like it didn't feel easy, or was hard work because of the environmental conditions. I'm interested in how when something reads on paper as being 'easy', whether it actually is, or whether we should rely on our gut feeling as to how a run feels - which is pretty much the decision you made at the end there. I've just been listening to a podcast about enjoyment of running and running to play rather than run with a hard target, and I think I'm more of a player (certainly if I want to maintain my interest in running).
