"Saturday - Success (what have you accomplished; focus on the positive of the week, NSV=non scale victories)"
First visit, and like this idea. So my Saturday input, I came back! I've been derailed last couple weeks for whatever the reason. Let's go!3 -
@bapcarrier - I can totally relate to the scale woes! My weight fluctuated within 15 minutes this morning between 262.6 and 259.8 pounds. I used the weight that popped up most, 262. This is typical every time I step on the scale.
The fact that I saw 259.8 must mean it's right around the corner!
Until next time; wishing everyone Peace , Love and Weight Loss !!2 -

I'm really happy with what I achieved here. Didn't *quite* reach my goal, but I'm within sneezing distance of it.
Today is Easter, Round 2, for me. In my family we usually have multiple holiday celebrations because various people have jobs that keep them away from home for weeks on end. This can be fun, but when you're watching your (for example) jelly bean consumption, it's not really so fun. I will do my best today--I got in a nice walk and burned a couple hundred calories this morning, so I'm going to try not to sweat it when the basket of candy gets passed around (again).
@campfirequeen I smile at a lot of your posts because I share some similar issues. In fact I too have been absolutely struggling with my Mexican/Tex-Mex food cravings lately. I admire your strength at being able to have a good time at the restaurant without going overboard. That would've been very difficult for me, indeed. I bought myself a Mexican cookbook recently in the hope of learning how to cook the stuff I like at home...I'm hopeful that this will be helpful to me (or at least an amusing creative effort).

@Nikion901 - have you tried chair exercises to strengthen your core? Just a suggestion. There are some great YouTube videos on chair exercises.
@GOINSTD12 ... Thanks for the suggestion Tracy Yes ... I do chair exercises every day. Congratulations on the size down!
@bapcarrier ... I understand the scale hopping! When my weight shot up on the April 5th weigh-in I found myself pulling out the old WW scale and comparing. That scale weighs lower by almost 2 pounds and I was so tempted to go with it's reading, or perhaps somewhere between the two I used that day. I can drive myself nutty with the scale numbers! ... it doesn't bother me on a regular day, but the days I need to report my weight in a challenge are always more stressful. Sometimes I'll weigh myself a second time during the day, but even then, it's always the first reading I get that I record in my journal ... somehow I feel if I don't take the first weight that I will be sabatoging my statistics.
@RobinB0812 ... I also weigh in on Wednesday for the challenges on this thread. However, I participate in other challenges as well ... one gets the Monday weight, another gets the Friday weight. But my own records get a daily weight. I figure why not, the scale is out there in it's place and I'm in the room with it the first thing in the morning anyway ... so why not weigh-in!
Saturday Success ... I was able to do 4 30-minute sessions of housework yesterday, although one of them had to be sitting on a stool in front of the kitchen sink! ... My legs and feet did numb up but I worked through trying to see if it would improve if I kept pushing through it. Not, but I'm still trying. ... anything to keep me from having to sit as much as I do.
PS ... @RunningOnWontons ... Claire, it's a second Easter this Sunday for my traditions also. However, I didn't do the tradtional festivities and foods this year. I'm the only one left of my family that might follow them, and I haven't been able to attend services because the church is not handicap accessible. Still ... tomorrow is Bright Sunday and I will be visiting the cemetaries to remember those who have passed from this realm.3 -

It's not as much as I would have liked and I sabotaged myself, but it is a loss.I didn't consciously do much this week but avoid sweets, colas and drinks lots of water. That seemed to help weight loss. Looking forward to next challenge and finding ways to cut off at the pass, triggers that get me off point.

Saturday successes. It's been a very successful week despite my malaise with sleeved living. I'm struggling with eating, or rather not eating, mentally. It's been 10 weeks almost since anything was normal. Living like this isn't normal, hopefully it will be soon. I can eat almost anything, not much at all, but almost anything. Too fast and I'm sick. Too much ditto.
Successes, Tuesday was my youngests' birthday. We went out to dinner at Texas Roudhouse. I had half of my cup of chili ( not recommending it) and 60% of the shrimp appetizer (3 of 5, math nerd it's how I think). I fit COMFORTABLY in the booth. My mother in law is still in shock at how much I eat, but tickled at my success so far, my sister in law who is always on a cult/fad diet is less pleased with my success and a bit ugly about it too. I think she is a bit jealous and afraid she couldn't make to the surgery successfully. My other success was deciding and moving forward with eating lunch. I don't know why it was such a huge obstacle but it was. Pack food, simple right? No! I'm doing it though.2 -

@Nikion901 I don't know what medical issue(s) you are dealing with, but I highly recommend trying to find a conservative pain management specialist (MD) who is NOT affiliated with a neurosurgery or orthopedic surgery practice before seeing a surgeon. There are a lot of medication therapies and injection therapies that can be tried in lieu of surgery. Also echo the comments re: developing core muscles (although, I must admit I am admittedly not up to snuff in doing those exercises).1

Success Saturday. we got in our hike and it was beautiful. It has been about 3 yeas since I attempted Linville Fall trail (western NC) and I remember it being long and steep and difficult. With a lot of water and breaks just to make it through. But my NSV is we did it in under 1.5 hrs with no breaks needed and I didn't reach for my water until we got to the car. And come to find out its only 1.6 miles ROUND trip. Before today I would have bet my little toe it was 10 miles up hill both ways!!! If I was alone I could have done it in about 45min I think but my 4 yr old set the pace and set the Guinness World Record for the number of pics taken on top of tree stumps. I love the energy I have now and stamina, just 3 short months ago I never would have even dreamed I could have done this!!6

Less than a stellar amount of weight loss but for this time period I've had some major health issues and I'm thankful that I am three pounds less than I was! Moving on and downward, regrets left in the dust and only a new blank page to begin another adventure to the new and healthier me! YAY US, whether we lost a lot or a little, we are still in there working on it, and that's no failure!
I also have an NSV I want to share. In addition to fitting into clothes I haven't worn in years, I have kept up my step goal for 11 days in a row and also my water consumption is up! I'm feeling pretty successful.4 -

I've known a couple of people who have done this and, while it takes time to heal completely, eventually you will be slender, healed, and able to eat more food. A niece of mine has a close friend who did the surgery many years ago and she is just beautiful, energetic, healthy, and happy today because of it. And so will you be ... happy, healthy, slender, and wise!

Hello. I don't have a picture and I'm new to this, but my goal is to lose 100 lbs! I've lost and gained hundreds of pounds over the years, but I'm feeling motivated right now because my mother died in December and I would like to live a longer life than she did. So.....I started a concerted effort in terms of diet 4 days ago and I've lost 7.6 pounds so far. I'm eating about 1200 calories a day avoiding most carbs. I am planning on starting to work out at the gym about 3 times a week. Anyone have any suggestions on how to stay motivated?!?0

Welcome @mframkovar to the My Fittness Pal community. If you have the inclination, and time, I suggest you peruse some of theAnnouncement
http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10300331/most-helpful-posts-getting-started-must-reads#latest
As for staying motivated ... I'd bet that if someone were to invent a formula, method, or even a pill or tonic that would do it they would become an instant billiionaire! ... Seriously, I'm kidding around, but not much ... because staying motivated is a challenge for most of us at one time or another, for different reasons and different lengths of time. I think of it as a mental muscle that you need to develop by continually working on it. ...
A couple of pages back you will find, along about 4/17, a posted list of things responders had mentioned as a help to them in their weight loss journey ... if you can browse back to it, you might find it very helpful.
Good luck. ...
PS ...
And most importantly of all .... love yourself, forgive yourself when you don't live up to your own expectations ... but like a firm and loving parent, guide yourself back onto the path you have set your foot to. We all fail sometimes, and losing weight isn't a one day or a one meal adventure ... it's a continuum.1 -
I have a NSV to share...annual physical yesterday, not only was the Dr. very excited about my 30 pound weight loss, my blood pressure is now back at a very good point. 118/86 down from 150 over 95! I don't know if high blood pressure runs in families or not, but my mother had extremely high BP for most of her life. As she aged it would often run around 200 over 100 even on medication! (No she did not die from a stroke.) We had to watch her diet and check it constantly to keep it in the 160-170 range. Anyway, I'm glad to have mine back where it belongs. I'm lucky that other than being over weight, I don't have many health issues. I'm hoping that my A1C levels come back as normal after I have my blood work done later this coming week. I have been boarder line diabetic for the last two years. (I don't think they use that term any more but hopefully you'll know what I'm taking about.)
@jam5660 great job on the hike! Keep up the great work.
@mframkovar Welcome, I think just logging, seeing your improvements and taking part in this great thread will help you. Everyone is very supportive and caring which helps when things aren't going so well and definitely will give you a big hurrah when things do!
@Nikion901 super job with the 4 30 minute sessions. I know it was hard to work up to that many. BTW thanks for starting and keeping us all up to date on the 8 week challenge we just completed.
To everyone: Have a great rest of the weekend! Onward and downward! I also remember that from before and always liked it!2 -
So busy at work today. Lots of stress. But I bring my meals and and snacks and don't bring any money so I stick with what I planned!! It is tough- trying to learn other coping mechanisms than eating!! Over 10,000 steps today.4

Work in a business office 5 days a week
Today, we (husband and me) will go get our hair done and if we have time, go to church afterwards. From there, we have a few errands in town. I hope to see one of our youngest grandsons, too. We live in the country in a quiet neighborhood. Yesterday, we shopped until I almost dropped for new work attire. I hate shopping and malls even more. Most of the time, I buy online, but the sales lady was great and helped me a lot with choices. I'm not comfortable with my size and trying to get all dressed up is painful. I used to wear the cutest business suits back in the day. Now, I honestly dress in more of a mode of "I just give up and I don't care". But time to change the attitude and realize my limitations are okay for now, because I'm working on them. So, between the husband and the sales lady they talked me into a few outfits a bit more out of my comfort zone. We will see how it goes, lol.

Final Earth Day Challenge report ...
We had 11 people weigh in prior to Saturday, and then 13 of us weighed in by Saturday. What a coincidence ... because the very first weigh in we did had 13 of us weighing in as well! (not necessarily the same 13).
By Friday, when 11 of us had weighed in, we had 0.90 pound loss ... so I suspect that the "Easter Bunny" had his way with us! ... but we bettered those results with our final weigh in on Saturday to the tune of having lost 13.2 pounds!
Thus ... the 13 of us who finished this challenge lost a total of 114.8 pounds ... which is a group average of 3.51% weight loss..
The person who lost the most pounds from the first reported weight through the last is ... @happygirlxxx ... Congratulations Ana on freeing Earth of 18 pounds! You also are well into Onederland You also exeeded you goal weight loss!
@birgitkwood, congratulations to you also for being well into Onderland during this challenge
The participants who 'made' or 'passed' goal ... congratulations Big TIME ...
@JeanieWww , @sand86802 , @birgitkwood , @bapcarrier , @lksmeeton , @christinenesbitt3, and @happygirlxxx
These 7 participants are a beacon to us all that with consistency of effort we can all make our goals.
Good luck to everyone who is going on to the next challenge. Those of us who fell short of our goals are gonna get there this time!
It has been a pleasure for me to monitor this challenge, and I thank everyone who has made kind remarks to me about it.
Niki
PS ... didn't want to forget this .... We ALL lost weight!7 -
@jam5660 -- Just want to say, congrats on your hike! I have a lot of great memories of hiking with my Dad in the Linville Gorge region. Such wild and beautiful country. I hope to get back out there one day.0
