Good evening!
I had a good day driving out to Lake Ouachita with my DH. We stopped at a cafe for a break and he had blueberry pie and I had a diet Dr Pepper. We stopped at the lodge where we stayed in 2005 and talked to the lady who owns it, then on to an antique shop. DH bought me a unique mint green dish in the shape of leaves made in the 1950s. I have buffet and hutch full of vintage Fiesta ware, etc. but I love old unique dishes!
Pip I love the pink paisley fabric. That would be fun in a trailer!!
Allie I would shop sound for insurance for sure. We have GEICO which both of us being state employees costs us $68/mo for 2 cars and full coverage. We bought our Corolla and RAV4 new in 2010 and the rates are still the same, even the cars are paid off and 7 years old. We have our homeowners thru them. It costs $1/mo to have payments set up.
Meg I have TENS units used on me a lot. I love it! The sensation is odd at first but it really helps relax the muscles. I had to go to PT 2x a week for 6 weeks and other visits to PT.
I received my new digital scale in the mail today! I'll weigh in tomorrow to see how much the old scale may be off. I'm kind of anxious!
Have a good evening!
Dana

Did Michelle Dozois' Pure Strength DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do Leslie Sansone's 5 Day Slimdown DVD
Vicki - I'm very uncomfortable asking for money, too.
Yvonne - you know, whenever I am in the pool, I wear a pair of old short shorts. I really don't want the sun to get to the tops of my legs. If that gets burned, it sure hurts when you have to sit down
Toni - I can't believe the weather here! It's so chilly today. And to think that the other day I was laying in the pool
First went to Bi-Lo to get clementines on sale. Found coupons this a.m. so took them, too. Went to church then to WalMart. Needed strawberries to dip in white chocolate for a gal whose birthday is later in the month. She's moving so that's why I'm doing it earlier. Then home to have dinner, now here since I have a little time
Rori - I try to prelog whatever I can. I usually have dinner for the week planned out (I can't be bothered trying to think so as long as I have it written down, I'm safe) and I log that at least.
DJ - I didn't realize how far you've come by losing the weight. Congrats!
Joyce - it doesn't surprise me one bit that you would take in an abused animal. You have such a big heart, I can see it.
Dana - Jessica is "trying to lose weight". I try to say just a little to her, like "it's really how much of what you eat that's important. You really can have anything you want, but in moderation". In the end I know that she's going to do what she wants to do. The guy she's with seems to really like beer and she's gotten to drinking a bit too (not too much). That certainly doesn't help much. On that I try to keep quiet. Your daughter is amazing! There's no way I could ever do something like that
Lenora - I had been taking phenobarbitol. That's what the MD is trying to wean me off of while keeping me on the Lamictal.
Lisa - my car has navigation, but I have to update it regularly and the updates are expensive! So, therefore, I haven't done it. I use my phone for navigation to newer locations. The car looks lovely. I like 4 door cars. Have fun with ds!
Why does everyone have such luck walking away when looking at a car? Jess was looking at one car, she told them what she needed them to do to make the sale, but they wouldn't come down at all. Bummer.
Dana - how terrible! Prayers
Marti - welcome!
Hot flash coming on...gonna go get some frozen grapes
Made chocolate chip cookies for me to take to Jess and maybe Denise next weekend. Then made 5 chocolate cakes. Remember I made that wedding cake? Well, the gal didn't save the top layer, so I'm making her some. Only Jess said to use the smallest cake pan I have, which is why I made 5 cakes. I figure what Jess doesn't use, I can give to Vince. Then I made some icing. See, I got this recipe from when I took a cake decorating class way back when. Only to me it tasted too much like Crisco. Well, this time instead of milk I used sweetened condensed milk. I needed a splash of regular milk just to give it the consistency. I'll freeze that, take it up to Jess for when she decorates the cake, and the remainder I'll bring home and maybe ice Vince's cake.
Sue in WA - yea for those jeans
Mia - Congrats! So very proud of you

Hi Barbiecat: This has been a pleasing journey for me. Since Jan 2, I have managed to stick to an eating and exercise regimen that a move had put on hold for a few months. Lost the weight I gained over the move and now continue to lose as slowly as I can, about a pound per week. At 73, I am suicidal about the batwings that are becoming more prominent so I am hunkering down with triceps exercises, machine and free weights, in addition to fat-burning speed for recumbent bike and plenty of strength training. I include over-the-seat squats and plenty of stretches for arms and legs. I aim for 4 times per week and do not sweat if it is less. The grief over the batwings and other residual problems as a result of my age and condition is balanced with the mobility and ease with which I move. I can now walk up or down a staircase without the handrail. No matter how bad things get, I do not regress into bad habits and find myself maintaining my program no matter what. Life-long therapy has finally made itself useful!9

Hi Gals,
Logged in with 260+ messages to read, so skimmed…..
So the few things that stuck in my memory -
Mia – great job
Heather – happy anniversary
Heather and Lisa – great job on new cars
Allie – I pay a bit more that you are – BUT that is car and home insurance! And just because a friend did not know this you can change insurance any time during the year and get a refund of what has not been used from the old company.
Meeting with Rori was a delight, I was delighted to be Lucky 13! We had a nice leisurely dinner (no acholic beverage and no dessert) It is fun to meet in person!
Today is the first semi quiet day since seeing Rori, my nephew’s ½ brother’s grandma died, they share a Mom– so yesterday was the funeral, my Mom and I went. His grandma took him in at 8 days old, and has raised him ever since, when he was about 5 his dad got sober and moved in too – So this is a big hole in his life, he is just 14. But grandma (82 yrs old) died of cancer so she and Mike (1/2 brother) had time to talk about how much she loved him… Mike was born drug addicted and drunk, and amazingly has turned out fine, well spoken, bright and athletic.
My mom stayed for 2 nights and as much as she says don’t bother with me just work it never works out that way! So I got behind on embroidery and my own stuff, so yesterday I worked into the night and have put in a full day embroidering and have made a good dent on catch up. I need to get ahead a bit as I got a call from my god daughter and she is flying in on Thursday and I’ll pick her up and have her here for a couple of days. And I’d rather visit than work!
Smiles

Welcome, Sandoremi, It sounds like you have made a great start on your journey to health and fitness. It helps me to return to this thread every day, read the posts for support and encouragement, and join the conversation to encourage others. I lost almost 60 pounds in 2009 and have kept the weight off since then thanks to logging food and exercise and seeking every opportunity to be active. I wish the same success for you.

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening My Dear Friends,
Jane, I hope the pain is better and you were able to resist the food crutch.
Gayle, so sorry about your mom. I know this can’t be an easy time for you. (((Hugs)))
Dana, your daughter is amazing. Wow.
Janet#2, you are right about Mother’s Day. I’m just trying to skip a week, I guess? Thanks for setting me straight. It’s not an easy job but I need someone to do it.
Lisa, I love your new car. They are great cars and it’s my favorite color.
M, I’m so impressed with your biking. Wowee
Marti, welcome. This is a great group of ladies for support and information so come often.
Jane, her hair did come out great. She is a beautiful girl with beautiful hair. The main thing is that she liked it.
Mia, Way to Go!!! You should be proud.
Pip, I haven’t shopped for fabric in a number of years but can’t believe any would be that expensive. I actually prefer the one you went with better, but that is just my taste. Glad you could save a few bucks.
Dana, I love the pics. It is beautiful there.
to all the Newbies. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
My DD is on the far side of Nashville tonight. She didn’t get as far today as I had hoped but should be here by Monday. I’m so anxious to see her and meet our newest Fur=grand. She thinks he is the greatest dog ever. I just hope he gets along well with our other two. Off to bed now.
Sending love, good thoughts and sunshine to all of you.
I Love you

As I was sitting on my recliner being bored last Wednesday nite, my DGD called to tell me her play was on Thursday nite. She had forgotten to tell me the date. It was so important to her so we packed up Thursday and went to Dallas. Then Friday we drove home, changed clothes and drove out to our son's ranch. So instead of being bored, I am tired.
Re - I am so happy for you. Great job.
DJ- glad you enjoyed your cruise and your Happy Birthday.
Dana- my twin grans are going to a wilderness camp in AR in a few weeks as part of their school's transitioning to high school. Hope the rain is gone.
Welcome to the newbies and the returning friends.

PS - Rori,I was just wondering where in the CO foothills you are located. I am going to Parker for me DGS's high school graduation in a week. It would be fun to meet you.3 -
Then today, we cycled a century (100 miles).
We completed our May PYRR (Petite Year Round Randonneur - a 100 km ride each month of the year) and our May CAM (Century-A-Month Challenge - a 100 mile in each month of the year) all in one ride!
Our high temperature reached about 16C ... the low was about 4C along the Derwent River as the mist rolled down the river. No wonder my feet felt a nip of cold as we cycled there.
The forecast predicted a lot of rain, and we went prepared, but we only had about 20 km of light rain on the way back.
And wind ... the forecast predicted fairly strong N/NW wind which would have meant we we would have had a headwind all the way out. But we didn't. I just checked the last 24-hours, and somehow we managed to dodge the wind! It was blowing after we left places and before we got to places, but not while we were there.
The start and end of the ride were in a familiar location but the middle section of the ride was relatively new to me. We have been there, but not on bicycles and not frequently. It's a really pretty part of Tasmania ... especially in autumn.
Distance: 163.3 km
Elevation: 1,016 m
Moving Time: 8:51:34
Elapsed Time: 9:38:46
Speed: Avg: 18.4 km/h | Max: 48.6 km/h
Map and photos from yesterday's ride. So glad we aren't out there today. Today is cold, rainy and windy.

Lanette:
A quality supplement is a good idea. I just know that a plant based quality supplement is better than a synthetic one. Go to the Health food store and have them pick you a decent one. Our diets often lack certain minerals because we wash our food..."selenium" is one of those elements. So yes, I'm supportive of vitamins.
I was in an accident a while ago. My care plan included B vitamins, and certain foods that seem to inflame tissue so I was off corn, wheat, and ate a lot of fish oil and coconut oil. All very good for brain healing and defending our aging brains. Coconut oil is my main fat now days and is especially good for our brains. I love the colored salts too.
Mary: From Seattle relocated to Colorado in 97.

Lanette – A TENS unit is meant to be used by putting the pads on ‘trigger points’ on your body and the unit will send shocks to those points making your muscles contract, when it stops the muscles will release. Since you are not having it put on by someone else who would know these points; I would suggest Googling ‘trigger points’ and knowing where to put them on. Usually, it takes a stronger shock if your muscles are not strong or have been injured; this is to make them stronger. Just not be so high that your muscles don’t have enough time between the shocks for your muscles to relax and rest. Usually, they have several different modes of hitting your trigger points. Some I liked a lot better than others. There are trigger points all over your body. I’ve used one several times.
Insurance (car) paid for mine, too! Then they wanted it back once I was finished with it. Only to have it be thrown away (is what they told me they would have to do with it). WHOOPS! You mean you did not get it in the mail? Sorry! I used it for several reasons for the following 2 or more years. Upper back to help with migraines that were caused by the back wreck I had.
Sue – Great on your NSV!
Jane – Yes DD and DD mean ‘dear’ daughter and husband; but, it also can mean ‘damn’, ‘dumb’, ‘devious’, any adjective beginning with a “D”. I want to check into buying a mini-trampoline. Guess I will check with Target first, then maybe Wal-Mart, or the Sport Supply business where we bought sons’ stuff for their various sports.
Pip – Second choice will certainly give you a lot more color to work with. Like both; but, for the $$$$ savings – I’d be going for the 2nd. The price of the first one would have made me look for something else. Even ‘if’ you did not need that many yards; cost of paying someone to do them would be ‘outta sight’. My Mother used to make our drapes/curtain.
Mia – Proud of you!!!!
Michele – After my last seizure (at the bank, last May) they upped my Lamictal to 300mg twice a day; and, I take 100mg of Dilantin 2x a day. When Will was a baby until he outgrew the ‘febrile seizures’ he’d have he was on Phenobarbital (liquid); and, he would rock on all 4s to go to sleep (fighting it); and, rocked so hard that we’d have to tighten the screws in the baby bed (which had only been used for our oldest son prior) and we did not have that issue with him. The real reason I’d like to come off the Dilantin is the side effects it has on my gums. But, Louis said he’d rather pay the dentist than for me to have a seizure and have to go on a driving restriction.
Found another recipe for ‘bread pudding’ that has a lot less sugar. Next time, I will try it. Gave son ½ of what I made. He and Madison loved it (and the sugar); but Jenn and Emilee did not like it – too sweet. Even Louis admitted that it had too much sugar; but, he liked it and ate it. I’ve only had a little of it.

Happy Sunday
Just caught up on all posts, hugs for those who need them and joy to those who have successes.
weighed in this morning down 2.4 lbs (the .4 is important LOL)
Date day with DH today, sun is shining and forecast is good so maybe white jeans and nice top are in order.
Will go do my squats and weights vid and a Leslie Sansone vid (to balance out the wine to be drunk this afternoon)
Think DH thinks that I should stop what I'm doing he doesn't want me to disappear (he says) bless him he has no idea about nutrition eats a lot of the wrong things and drinks beer. But he doesn't overeat or snackon junk food. He is 76 and has no major health issues and is very fit, makes you want to grr. He doesn't mind my exercising and will drive me to the gym if needed. Men are peculiar.
Tata for now will catch up later (a little tipsy no doubt)

Good morning. WellI think the worst is over for us. Today is the first day in weeks that I don't see the red weather warning on the Weather Network site. The river behind our house overflowed but is still far from the house. So I am planning a retreat day at home. No technology just reading, listening to relaxing music, maybe some yoga and journaling. And healthy nutrition of course.
For the newbies, I find that my weight loss journey is working this time because I have surrounded myself by continuous positivity and support and this thread is extremely supportive.
Have a great day everyone.

Happy Sunday. Recovering from my 6-hour drive hauling DDs belongings home. What a slog, at least it wasn't pouring rain the entire time and i wasn't sitting in traffic. It is just distance driving through gorgeous western NY and I mean gorgeous best part, DD will be home by the end of this week!!
Happy to be social today with work friends, a great colleague of mine has a children's production off off broadway so I am going to cheer him on. It includes things I love about being close to NYC, a train ride, good coffee, lots of people watching and great ethnic food. Should be a fun day. But, I will be a little behind with my work week prep, so off I go to squeeze in a few errands.
Cheers to everyone, Beth? did you make it back yet??? NYKAREN5 -
So happy to have the only son home; knowing he's sleeping just a few yards away is a hug-yourself feeling of no small proportions. This morning will be the first attempt at a conversation on the details of why they have him "under supervision," which I know means there was either verbalizing about suicide or an attempt at it. This is, please note, the only place in my life where I talk about that--he has both the need and the right to privacy about this matter, and I respect that completely.
Otherwise, I'm in list-making mode, both for home and work. While I don't necessarily pay detailed attention to them afterward, the mere making of them centers me, gives me focus.
First night in weeks that I haven't woke up coughing, so I feel as if I'm getting back to the land of the living.
Unfortunately, the scale is going the WRONG direction. Am within ten pounds of my highest weight since my gastric bypass, and struggling to get the eating under some kind of control. I have to start being truthful with myself again--the amount of calories I'm absorbing is obviously off the chain, and not recording it in MFP does not mean I didn't eat it. Now that the horrendous cold is done or nearly so, I have zero excuse for the eating I've been doing "to feel better." Have to go find my big girl panties, pull 'em up and get back to being mindful about what I put in my mouth.
Love y'all,
Contemplative in West Texas,

Good morning Ladies!
It's been busy since I came back from Nantucket. Had the most awesome time, my face hurt from smiling so much. The weather was sunny, if a bit cool, but quite comfortable. One never knows what weather will blow thru those islands. Enjoyed the Daffodil festivities, parades, beautiful downtown displays, scenery, people, Daffodil competition displays(I had no idea there were so many varieties ), Cisco brewery, shopping, ferry ride, people, food and drink. It was a full day. Random people stopped our group of 6, sporting our Daffodil decorated hats, and asked to take our picture. We certainly were not the only ones similarly decked out, but after the third request I began to feel like a celebrity! Prior to having lost this weight I would have been a spoil sport and have refused to have my picture taken, but not now. Looking at some of the pictures I see that the sweatshirt I am wearing looks big and unflattering. I assumed it was one of my size large sweatshirts until I looked at the tag and saw it was a medium. Every year when I go to The Cape I purchase a sweatshirt, last year I finally fit into a medium, seeing those pictures made me realize I needed a small this year. NSV.
On my way home on Sunday my son informed me that my daughter-in-law was in the hospital with pneumonia. She had the flu and it had worsened, aggravated by asthma. She was admitted on Saturday morning and finally responded to treatment on Wednesday. She is home now and on the mend. It was a scary week for all of us. Bless his heart that he didn't tell me until I was on my way home, he didn't want to spoil my weekend and there was nothing I could do anyway.
I think I have turned a corner in managing my social eating and drinking. Although I certainly enjoyed all the food and drink I consumed, I did so more mindfully. I did not have an alcoholic drink at every opportunity, and ate less junk than I normally would have. I gained a couple of pounds which was expected and was back on the program when I returned. My current goal was to get to my lowest weight which was just before Easter ( and the cured meat weight gain) as Heather would say, those pesky pounds. Yesterday I was within .4 lbs. of that goal. My book club meeting was last night which consists of munchies, wine and full on desserts. I ate very carefully yesterday being sure to save a few hundred calories. I drank water instead of wine, had a small piece of the pie and chocolate cake but couldn't resist the candied pecans. I dutifully got on the scale this morning to access the damage and was shocked to discover that I had lost the last of the pesky pounds. Had to get on the scale twice to confirm.Moral of the story...you can still enjoy your favorite foods, just be moderate and mindful. I think that will be my mantra for the summer...moderate and mindful.
A co worker asked me yesterday for advice on weight loss, she is in my age group and one of few that I work with that is not obese. I gladly shared what works for me. I try not to talk about my weight loss to others because I find it a mine field. Except here of course where I feel safe. The weekend I was away one of my friends whom I don't see very often asked me how I lost the weight. As I was talking, another friend (who has tried but has been unsuccessful in losing weight) came into the room and the expression on her face made me end the discussion. She didn't know I was asked for the advice and I think thought I was "preaching" and or bragging. So I make it a practice to not talk about it unless asked.
Gotta get to work, on call this weekend and have to get cracking.
Love and hugs to everyone.

Stop asking Tom. He's not in your corner. Go to an insurance agent and get your own insurance. You can go to a national company but I've often had better luck with an Independent Agent that shops around for the best for me. I don't always get the cheapest policy because I take into consideration the quality of the company (I only use A rated companies) but I have always gotten discounts and such by shopping around. You can also look at esurance online. We have used them before to get quotes. Tom might have his cheaper because he has multiple cars... and is his tied to the house? That can get a discount to. But he might just not care about yours since it's not his problem.... TALK TO AN AGENT.... and stop trusting Tom.9 -
Good morning!!
SueBDew Tell your grans to bring plenty of "Off" spray and stay on trails when hiking. Since the heavy rains the woods are so thick of undergrowth. I've learned the hard way!! This coming Thursday we are having a big storm come in. I'll keep you posted!
I got my new scale. I'm down, and it's neat to see an accurate reading in tenths of lbs too. I won't record till Wed. morning.
Have a Happy Day!
