Same here. Oreos are another. Look at the serving size and the calories on the package. It'll flat out shock you. I wish they made a lower calorie version of them but they don't bother. How many of you remember sitting down to eat a third or even half a package of those things with milk in the evenings. My wife always liked chips/dip, I liked oreos and milk haha. No wonder I got so fat. Body by Oreo lol.
Man, I would stab somebody for a sleeve of Oreos and a giant glass of ice cold milk. That sounds SO good!9 -

you can get oreo thins which are slightly less calorific? i have the tiramisu ones which are really nice and 32 cals each1 -
The bread I was eating before my diet was 120 calories a slice! Now I eat Weight Watchers bread at 50 calories a slice. They're much smaller slices but it improves the bread to peanut butter ratio.5

I still remember the day when my husband looked up the calories on his beloved McGriddle. It's almost a Big Mac... Guess he shouldn't have been shocked.3

Everything.19

Nuts, cheese, tortillas, preserves, bread, rice, whole milk, ricotta ( more cheese! duh!). Th list goes on and on. Sigh. No wonder i spent my life in various degrees of being fat.6

Yes, 140 calories per tiny little packet. I nearly cried.3 -
Tacklewasher wrote: »If you want a excellent tortilla that is low calorie, carb and high fiber I would recommend Ole Xtreme Wellness Tortilla. They are I think 10 inch and 50 calories, 11 dietary fiber, soft and taste excellent.
Sigh.
Not in Canada from what I see.
Tortilla's I'm having are 180 cals and I'd love to try a lower cal version that tastes good.
I'm not low carb but I go shop at their stores for La Tortilla Factory tortillas and they're amazing. I buy the smaller ones for tacos @ 70 cals (we count the fibre as calories so they're the same as the 45cal US ones) I get it at Low Carb Grocery; they also have large ones for 110 cals but 10g protein and tons of fibre3 -
Gummy candies like Swedish Fish, Sour Patch Kids, Twizzlers, etc. I want them sometimes now, but every time I check the calorie count it's just not worth it to me given how small a reasonable serving would be.5

^^This. It's sad how many tortilla chips you actually get for 150calories. ugh. Peanut butter and cereal sucks too. I can't buy either anymore.1 -
My favorite chips....Tostitos Hint of Lime. 150 calories for 6 chips. Granted they're big, but not that big. Super disappointing.3

Everything on the menu at Chili's. A black bean patty subbed into one of the burgers (I'm a vegetarian) with a side of broccoli isn't too bad. But cheese enchiladas are like 1440. Even on days I eat 2700 calories (about once a week) I can't fit in those kinds of numbers.2

The cafe at my work sells muffins that are 800 calories of sugary, buttery deliciousness.12

Corn on the cob2

Amazon has them. Can you use Amazon?1 -
Uno's individual size pizzas.
<gasp> First time I looked one up I became an evangelist for mandatory calorie counts on menus.
I really believe that people have no idea how much they're eating...7 -

we have to use Amazon.ca which has significantly less products and massively inflated prices, the normal amazon website will usually flag and not allow delivery/completion of the order now. A few years ago we could use amazon no problem. Sadly.0 -

I believe that because it was very true for me for YEARS of my life. Now I am just blown away by what I thought was okay for me to eat. I could easily eat a half pound of pasta with rich, creamy alfredo sauce and chicken- my entire days worth of calories as one PART of one MEAL I used to eat.
However, I am enjoying the new foods and seasonings that I have been exposed to as I try new, healthier recipes. I did have alfredo not too long ago- and I ate only part of it and saved the rest for later3 -
I'm pretty jaded now--back when I started, I was shocked and scandalized by all the foods, on a regular basis. From grapes and carrots, to heavy cream, all the way to your typical restaurant calorie nuclear bombs.
Recently, I was scandalized by the calorie counts in smoked whitefish dip--I looked it up after I ate an obnoxiously large quantity of it (on Club crackers--also scandalous!)4 -
My mother in law makes tortillas from scratch. Every. Single. Day. Apparently, in my husband's family, everything is a taco.
I blame my weight gain entirely on her tortillas, because they're delicious and I was eating them with every meal - I mean, she's serving them, so sure, I'll eat one or two. When I joined MFP, I entered the ingredients into the recipe builder - and then I just flat-out quit eating them. Because they're almost 200 calories each.8 -
Craft Beer. which is the only real beer. makes me sad.11
-
Oh and Prime Rib which I'm cooking on the smoker this weekend. absolute killer.2

Me too. This is one of life's greatest travesties. PB2/powdered peanut butter helps, but it's not the same.
That and pizza. One slice of pizza at a pizza shop is easily 350+ calories.
One day, when I'm on maintenance, I'm going to do an experiment where every day I eat just a jar of peanut butter for a while. Not for health reasons, but because I love it so much.8 -

I see that a lot here in South Texas. Tortillas are eaten with just about every meal in many families.
Tortillas were a sad realization for me. I love a good flour tortilla, but I can't justify spending 140+ calories on one. I switched to corn tortillas, which I've actually come to like quite a bit.
It's pretty rare that a food's calorie count "shocks" me. I do, however, look at portion sizes and get a little sad sometimes.3 -

Ya, I can easily eat a half order of Uno's pizza skins (2100/2) followed by half of a Numero Uno regular pizza (3630/2) for a whopping 2865 calories and want to eat again 5 ish hours later.

Bbq and pasta sauce. Also the sodium count is ridiculous.
Making your own pasta sauce takes a bit of time, but less than you'd think; there are GREAT low cooker recipes out there which are good for busy people Making your own cuts down dramatically on salt and sugar, plus allows you to sneak in some extra veggies that you might not like to eat on their own.1 -
Anything sold in a restaurant, especially fast food. Yes, I know that I should expect it. But how the heck do you make a chicken sandwich or a salad have 1,000 calories?
Biggest one lately though, has been money mustard salad dressing. At home I always buy the light versions. I love it. It's the only one I ever order if I'm out and I never, EVER would have thought it was so fattening. It's higher than Ranch! I blew an entire dinner I thought I'd done very well on one night when I got home and entered the darn dressing.8 -
The most caloric thing I every made, at 5 calories per gram, was Nanaimo Bars, possibly this recipe:

When I was a teenager I used to go to Uno's, we'd share an appetizer and then we'd all eat an individual pizza. That was two days worth of calories but I never knew. Part of the reason I didn't know was because I didn't care. I wish I did.
There is no mystery why most of western society is so over weight.
An "individual order" of almost anything is enough calories for a full day. Chinese take out combo? Easily 1800-2000 calories, and you're hungry again 4 hours later. Diner burger with fries? Heck, sonic sells milk shakes that are 1500-2000 calories for a large!
Even putting the calorie counts on signs doesn't help because most people don't give their weight a second thought. We are in the minority on this website. The vast majority of people see no problem eating 5,000 cals a day because they think it's "comforting". It's not until you stop eating like that, that you realize how horrible it makes you feel.

TL;DR pizzeria uno calories are insane. Absolutely insane.
