Pictures from the Firecracker Four Mile hit Facebook. I'm visible near the front just after the gun:
They got a nice shot of me perhaps 300 or 400m from the finish line:
And, lest we forget the nature of the holiday, this former Marine used to carry a flag in half marathons, till he lost the battle to retain his injured leg. He finished the race today.

@skippygirlsmom moved out of NJ over two decades ago.. so Pork Roll is a rare treat now. Pork Roll Egg and Cheese on a Cinamon Raisin bagel is my choice of poison.
I live in NJ. I have never had a pork roll. I am now vegan so never will. I don't feel I've ever missed anything. Perhaps because, while born in NJ, I live in WI from the age of 8 to 20. Then back to NJ. So missed the formative pork roll years.2 -

After taking the scissors to my Mizuno's, I am pleased to report that they no longer threaten my toenails. They feel wierd AF to wear with my toes hanging out, but I am confident that a little more crafting can improve them even more. I plan to add a slightly larger patch to each toe than the fabric I cut out - I just haven't decided if I want to use a wildly contrasting fabric, or try to disguise the fact that I'm modifying my shoes.

@MobyCarp I love the photos! You looked great! And a good reminder that the greatest runners among us are not necessarily the fastest on the field or the ones pushing distances to the brink of 100 miles and beyond- they are the runners who lace up and go when anyone else in their place would not have the courage to start
Sprint interval day today, was supposed to be in for 10 but I overshot it by quite a bit . So hot that I looked like I was melting when I got home (75 degrees but Canadian so dying haha!).
Hill repeat day with the trail group tomorrow, RIP quads

a glass...a couple glasses....some glasses of wine: who caresh....
not a hot dog to be seen....priceless. (tho I wouldn't have turned my nose up at a beer-and-onion bathed bratwurst with spicy mustard....

@Orphia My last visit to the hip doc they thought it was nerve entrapment due to tight muscles. I've been stretching the kitten out of it, and it is better.
My psoas seems overly tight and there's another I'm not sure what it is, I suspect the obturator internus or one or both of the gemellus muscles (deep gluteal muscles). I wish I could remember the nerve branch he reference. I need to add some yoga. Classes here are too fast paced for me. Maybe I can find a DVD.
I do not speak your alien muscle language. But someone recommended a cool muscle/exercise app called iMuscle I'm planning to get. I do know the massage therapist I saw thinks my sciatic nerve is the one that was trapped. He explained it really well, using lots of charts showing the hotspots for different referred pain associated with it.
Like @allyphoe I find helpful yoga videos on YouTube. There are millions! I've learned a lot.
Post-deep-tissue massage and test run report!
Glute/hamstring felt brilliant on my 6km run at 6:30 this morning, yay! Then by lunchtime, the dreaded DOMS from the massage had hit me! Perfectly normal, though, and the old pain was gone, so I'm very happy.
Planning to test my new Fenix 5 on a swim tomorrow morning. It was fun using it for the first time today.5 -
2.9 elliptical miles zone 1 and 2 23.4 for month. Amazing how much work it is to stay in the low zones. You can tell your still getting a good workout even if you're not tearing it up.4

Original plan was to do 12.6k today and 6.3k tomorrow, but had a niggle in my right calf. In the end I decided to just do 6.3k at an extremely slow pace, (right at the slow end of my long run pace), and stay local by doing laps of park so could stop if it got worse.
My calf eased up as I continued, but was never 100%. My distance was about 0.5km longer than logged as I stopped the timer at the shop, but jogged home from there to keep the muscles warm so I could give my calf a quick foam roll when I got home.
Think I'll plan the same for tomorrow, and scrap my 12k run this week so that don't make things worse before Sunday's HM.
1-July: 11.51km - easy 6.5k; HM pace last 5k
2-July: 19.26km - easy(-ish)
3-July: 12.84km - MP-easy
4-July: 6.51km - Very easy

Today's notes. First road running workout since my marathon. Got in 5 miles this morning. Ran a mile to a small hill near home that's a 0.25 mile run one way, then did 6 repeats on the hill and ran a mile home. I averaged 8:43 on the uphills and 9:44 overall for the run. Pace/effort control was better on this run. Despite running the repeats pretty hard, my average HR ended up at 155, which is the top of E, but still in E.

Hope all my American friends had a wonderful 4th. It's ten years since I moved to the States, and the 4th celebrations were very special yesterday became I became a US citizen last year.
Most of the weekend was spent doing some gentle hiking, but I did manage one run and will be getting another one in tonight. Don't really like running in 80+ deg F, but needs must.

This morning was my first run of the month, after spending time with the family for a nice long four-day weekend. We also ended up extending the family by adding another dog, so it's been fun seeing all the other animals get acquainted with the new addition.
Also, for the record, I did not have any hot dogs this weekend.

I run. I'm as slow as a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter, but I run! Team Turtle: We're Slow as Shell!
I'm not really built for speed, but I keep going, slowly shaving a few seconds off my time here and there. I do get discouraged occasionally though, because I am slow. Then I remind myself to run my own race and stop comparing myself to others. You're running for you. No one else. Just you. Enjoy every step!
I have a shirt that says exactly that, and with a turtle graphic too!
My goal for July is 26 slow & proud miles7 -
Wow, ten pages already. Of course, I am a slacker this month so far - other than yard / house chores I did no real exercise. It was nice to take some time away from training. My goal for July is to complete C25k and get some miles in. Looks like not many compared to a lot of you, but hey, it's quite a few for me My plan shows my goal to be: 36 miles for July.11

I have lived in the West, and in the South, and in East, the North... everywhere I go people eat hotdogs with ketchup.. so not a northern USA thing at all. Unlike say Pork Roll, which is a very much North East thing.
Never put ketchup on a hot dog in Chicago unless you have a death wish.
I had my first Chicago Hot Dog this weekend! There is definitely a wow factor. I have to say, I did like having a full pickle and hot dog in the same bun, but I got one bite with all hot ('sport') pepper and that threw me off. Those Chicago dogs are not to be messed with!3 -

OMG! My average cadence wasn't 180, it was 190! And my average HR was only 149, with max 163; I'm supposed to push harder than that for a race! Guess I'm not cut out to be a runner, after all.6 -

I had to go and check some of my race photos just to see if I'm clenching my fists in any of them. And I'm not. (Such a relief.)5
