I'm going to ask for further clarification on just where in the heal since several things come to mind.
@MNLittleFinn You are just amazing!
@Elise4270 it's on the bottom of my foot. Specifically right where the heel meets mid foot/arch.0 -
August Running Totals (miles)
8/1 – 9.06 warm up + speed work
8/2 – unplanned rest day
August total to date – 9.06
Nominal challenge goal: 260 miles
Real goals: Stay healthy. Train well toward the Rochester Marathon. Win my age group at Pound the Ground 10K on August 9. Run a respectable sub-20 5K at Bergen on August 12. Run the USATF Masters Mile (road) in under 6 minutes on August 25.
Today's notes – The original plan for today was 6.5 miles. I could have got them either with the group run this evening, or by doing a course preview then running the first 5K in the Innovative Edge Cross Country series this evening. But I got up this morning, and that pesky right Achilles niggle was just ever so slightly worse than it was yesterday morning.
True, I ran Yassos yesterday evening. But still . . . I'm thinking it's time to back off a bit. The problem is that I have a stack of races coming up, all of which are at least moderately important. So, I took today as a rest day. In the grand scheme of things, being 6.5 miles short of target this week won't matter for my marathon. Running 6.5 miles and turning a niggle into an injury would matter a lot.
So this evening I went to Cobb's Hill Park where the Innovative Edge XC is held, and asked what needed doing that didn't need any particular skill. Ended up being a course marshall and picking up some of the flags from the course when the runners had all past that section. As a plus, I wasn't running in the heat and humidity, and by the time I got done it had cooled off quite a bit.
I'll see how tomorrow goes. If the niggle is still bad, I'll want to do most of my running on soft trails. If one rest day has magically improved it to where it was before Karknocker 5K, I'll want to run roads with hills.

Well after confidently stating I'd be running 6.2 miles tonight, I ended up bailing at 3.7 miles. My right calf started hurting after a couple of miles. It didn't feel too bad and I thought I could maybe just run it off, but it seemed to be getting worse so I decided to do the sensible thing and quit while I was ahead.
I've given it a damn good massage and am currently icing it. I'm hoping that a couple of days rest will be enough to allow me to race on Saturday.6 -
Wk 7.31.17 - 8.6.17
M - 8.6 - Had to finish with a prime number for July. 241 miles total.
T - 9.2 m. - Wasn't motivated, didn't want to run. Did it anyhow.
W - 9.9 m.
T -
F -

Total - # miles. Goal is 60 miles this week.5 -
I'm in for at least 50. I'm at 6 so far4
-
8/1/17 - 3.01 miles treadmill before weight lifting.
8/2/17 - 6.13 miles
Upcoming Races:
9/9/17 - Wabash Trace HM (Maybe)
10/21/17 - Oregon Trail Run HM2 -
So I might have just done something...
But come on, it is a 15k race and only $10, it is not like I had a reasonable option to not do it...18 -

Well. First I apologise if the image I post is useless. I'm on Android and it seems incompatible with mfp. Second, I apologise for your injury and the potential (not a doctor) diagnosis.
Third I'd recommend to any interested runner a book by Jordan Metzl, Running Strong.
Seems to be a bit of plantar fasciitis. Hopefully it's caught early enough that it doesn't mean too much down time.
ETA... Wow that actually posted...

August Goal: 60 miles
8/1: 4 miles
8/2: 3.1 miles
7.1/60 miles completed
Nice run tonight. It was a little humid and not as cool as yesterday, but 82°F in August is ok with me. Tomorrow should be a rest day. I'm driving my mom to Dallas again to see the doctor so most of the day will be spent in the car. Hopefully we will get home early enough to at least take the dogs to the park for a walk.

Sure logic @PastorVincent !!! I'm hoping to be ready for a marathon on Veterans Day in Blairsville. http://www.active.com/blairsville-pa/running/distance-running-races/indiana-first-bank-veteran-s-marathon-2017?int=72-3-A9
Seems like it wouldn't be to far away from you. It's only $40. Just saying
I had a similar situation @BruinsGal_91 the evening before last. Goal was to do 4 miles, 2 up a gravel road and then 2 down it. Well... The "down it" part was the issue. My knees were shot in no time. Called it quits at 3.22 miles and my lovely husband came and got me for the short distance home. Totally agree that you did the right thing by stopping early before an injury developed. Today my knees were fine! Praise God!4 -
Well.... I am on the board with 1 mile tonight. Yes, you read that right - ONE. Monday's attitude induced run is still biting me a bit (big surprise, right?).
On the bright side... I seem to have finally communicated with crazy doc lady. Or, she realized if she issued a PT referral, I would be asking questions to, and thus expecting answers from, someone else. Based on the message I have on my phone while in meetings today, PT referral seems to have come attached with an MRI referral. So, next week could get interesting.
1/40 (no such thing as insignificant progress?)9 -
2 miles tonight.3
-
Not counting but walked 4 miles today.
Do you count walks? I don't. I use walks for active rest days. If I did count walk mileage, I might need to double my goal.3 -
@Irontri7 - I can recommend this yoga stretch. I have been doing it for a long while now, ever since I tore my fascia a couple of years ago. It helped and I believe continues to help immensely as I haven't had any additional problems once it healed. I also do other stretches for my feet and calves that probably help too but this one seemed to make the most difference for me. It was recommended by my sports chiro who treated the torn fascia.

I'm new to running, been dipping my toes into it for about a week or so, so I'm going to go light with my goal of 30 miles this month. Hope to up it soon. Today I ran my first mile without stopping and I hope to do that again and again this month!12

The goal is totally personal, so you count what you want to count. That being said traditionally "walking" is not "running" so if your goal is to "run" so many miles, you should only count the miles where you actually run. But again this is totally a personal choice that depends on your fitness and your fitness goals.0 -

Thanks, but that is on a Sunday. I can only do Saturday or night races. As a pastor, my Sunday's are taken. I take the one Sunday a year for the Pittsburgh Marathon, and that is it for races.

8/1: 7 miles of Track Tuesday
8/2: 7 miles easy
8/3: 8 miles "tempo run"
22 miles of 250 goal miles
Today was a pretty perfect morning weather-wise (as far as summer goes) for a tempo run. 63F, 100% humidity, dew point of just 62. However my hip and my brain had other plans. My hip flexor started to complain after ~3 miles because of the muddy tow path. My brain kept reminding me of all the super stressful stuff I have going on at work right now, and stress + hard workout = not a good mix. So I did a "tempo" (with the last 2 miles nearing my warm-up pace but feeling twice as hard), walk-ran the last mile of the route and then tacked on an easy flat mile after a stop-and-rest cool down to get my HR to come back down to a reasonable level.
Not an ideal way to start the day, but it felt good to get 70 mins of running in knowing that I have to go into the office and deal with a dumpster fire today

HA! One of my co-workers just signed up for that 15k I mention above and sent me this:
15 -
8/1- 6.1
8/1- 4.2
8/2- 6.1
8/3- 4.5
Total: 20.9
August Goal: Not die while ramping up running mileage and technicality during 100K training
Nominal mileage goal: 250 miles
Today's notes: Woke up early and got a message from my running buddy that he had tweaked his back, so I'd be soloing it this morning. Got to the ski hills and running by 4:45, and was headlamping it for the first 30-40 minutes of the run. Run felt pretty good, wore my Altra Superiors again, and went for the vertical. I didn't get quite as much vertical per mile as I normally do, but 1152 feet over 4.5 miles isn't bad, averaged out to about 256ft/mile.
Achilles are both a little sore, but that's par for the course after ski hill runs. I'll be taking it easy today, and taking a flat route with higher drop shoes for this evening's run.
Have a Runderful day everyone!

This morning's run went well. 3 miles breezed by!
August total: 10 miles
64 more to go!7 -
@PastorVincent $10 for a 15k? Yeah, I'd have signed up too.
Calf feels a little achy this morning, but not sore like last night. A couple days of massaging, stretching and icing will hopefully have me ready for Saturday's race. I was aiming for an age-group place, but may end up taking it easy instead and just enjoying running for the heck of it with a group of like-minded people. (I'm a very solitary runner when it comes to training, so race days with a crowd of people are really energizing to me).5 -
Nothing special to report other than 10 sweaty miles at a real slow pace to keep the HR well down.
02 - 13.54
03 - 10.08
Total: 23.62 / 200 miles7 -

Great running! You're well on your way to meeting/exceeding your goal!1 -
@PastorVincent I would've taken a $10 race too- racing is the best!
@MNLittleFinn sounds like a good day of hill intervals! Glad only your Achilles were off today!
So my husband has been working late this week which has resulted in 3AM runs in an absurd amount of fog. My pace today was pretty decent considering I could only see about five feet in front of me for a while. I amused myself heartily when I triggered the speed reader a few streets up from the house- 12km/hour baby (stop laughing Usain Bolt!). Now that I know I can set it off I am so taking a picture next time haha!
August 1- 13.4
August 2- 17.3
August 3- 16.5
47.2/4203 -
@JessicaMcB I love setting off the speed readers. Your 3am runs are insane! I need at least 6 hours sleep, and I'm often up to 2200.... you're awesome.
Achilles are always a little sore after ski hill runs, not as much downtime between steep climbs, but they never bug me while running, so it's mainly a recovery issue.
How's your ankle ?1
