10/01 - Rest
10/02 - 10 miles Z2
10/03 - 9 miles easy Z2 in the heat
10/04 - Strength + 7 miles Z3/4
10/05 - Strength + 6 miles Z2 in the rain
Summer Goal: Get my marathon pace below 9 minutes.
Official Marathon PR: 4:11:28
Next Races (more as I find them):
10/14/2017 - Stop, Drop, and Run - Fireman style obstacle course - 5km
10/14/2017 - HAWAIIANS LOVE S.P.A.M. (Skin Protection Against Melanoma)
05/06/18 - Pittsburgh Marathon - aiming for sub four hours.
It rained the whole time I was doing my strength stuff (picking up tiny weights and putting them back down) but by the time I was done it stopped. So I went out, did not get more than a few mins before it started to rain again. Legs were still tired from yesterday so I pulled back my pace to 9:30 and just did 6 miles, and then headed in.
Its ragweed season here so that is really hampering my... well everything. Grrr.1 -

Part of the beach I walked along on a walking trip earlier this year is a designated nudist beach. Really, there’s nothing worth seeing there.

I went to a topless beach in Spain on my high school trip. Let's just say it did not live up to the boys hopes.
They bbq and stuff at Shangri La and that just seems dangerous to do nude. I've had oil and boiling water splash in my stomach when I'm cooking in my sports bra and shorts and vow every time to never do that again.1 -
10/1: 5.16km
10/2: 5.17km
10/3: 4.03km
10/4: Rest
10/5: 4.52km
Finally took my rest day yesterday, and BOY did it make all the difference! Today I hit a great pace as I was full of energy and I could focus because I wasn't getting any tired/achy signals from my legs. I knew that you guys with experience were right, it was just hard to break the streak as I'm really motivated right now. I won't have the same problem next time.
October goal - 18.88/60 kms5 -
@lporter229 I have to Parrot the comments of @WhatMeRunning andI'm not a fan of built in liners in my running shorts. Now you asked about compression lined, and I'm talking about a regular liner, but my point is this...I find it far better to have a pair of underwear that work well with any shorts, than to deal with different liners in different shorts. But big picture, I think you'll find guys who love them and guys who hate them.
Like Lenny the SAXX fit into any Athletic/Running short that I have. They are a little pricey but comfort over rides cost. I mean there are some places you just don't want to suffer any chaffing. Why do you think all the Old Cowboys were Bull legged when they walked from there horse to the bar.4 -
Oct. 5 - 3K walk/run after work cuz I am sooooo not a morning person.

Total: 24 miles
Goal: 130 miles

@lporter229 - love shorter lightweight shorts (5" inseam - don't knock it until you try it) but I still wear boxer breifs under as my thighs (especially since I got serious about biking) chafe too much with just the liners.5 -

Well... I am on the board.... 2.3 miles of run/walk intervals.... which is only nearly a mile over my current clearance.... oops... work is not my friend right now, and so I had another "need to run off the attitude" sort of day. I was smart enough to go out a bit under dressed for the temp, and without water, or else my stupidity would have more than likely been magnified.
2.3/157 -
10/1 13.3
10/2 Rest
10/3 4.2
10/4 4.4
10/5 6
Total 27.9
Goal 120
Did a 6 mile up tempo run today and really felt nice. I think things are really coming together for me over the last week or so. The improvement is very noticeable. In the early summer I was around 12 min/mile, now I'm in a range 9.5 to 10.5 depending on distance. Of course it helps that I lost about 30 pounds over the summer. lol
Upcoming races:
11/25 Schaumburg HM6 -
October Running Totals (miles)

10/2 – 5.07 easy
10/3 – 5.05 easy
10/4 – rest day
10/5 – 6.01 easy
October running total to date – 16.13
Nominal challenge goal: 100 miles
Real goals: Get healthy enough to run 5 days a week. Avoid re-injury. Build base.
Today's notes – Had my last PT visit today. The PT sent me off with an admonition to be an adult, and not do anything to make the ankle worse. Then I went to club practice with the idea of running 6 miles.
At the end of the two mile warmup, Coach wasn't at base yet. So I just kept running, and had a pleasant 6 mile easy run around Genesee Valley Park. When I got done, Coach was there. He says when I feel up to it, try running 400 meters at T pace. I'm not that brave yet, but I'll keep it in mind. Maybe if the ankle feels closer to healthy next Tuesday. Or maybe not. I'm not feeling particularly competitive right now.

@MobyCarp thanks for the advice with Strava. Regretfully, it did not work. I might just have to uninstall Strava and then download it again.
@lporter229 My husband wears sports underwear from Adidas under his running gear. It's sort of like compression shorts, but much lighter fabrics. He loves it!
Nice and easy 7-miler today. Trying to take advantage of the last warm days, as I have a feeling that fall is really coming our way.

Was proud that I managed to squeeze in a 3 mi run (and a quick shower) despite a fully scheduled day with two job candidates interviewing today. Saw a new PT for a running form analysis to help me fix issues, promote long term health and a return to longer mileage runs. She also did ASTYM all over my hip, groin, and quad area. It is already bruising! V. v. painful but hopefully will make a difference! 2 new strength and stretching things I am supposed to do daily for my calves, quads and hips. Little bit of stretching before bedtime too.
Goal: 75 mi
Today (10/5): 3 mi
Total: 11 mi
To go: 64 mi2 -
10/1 - Rest
10/2 - Rest
10/3 - 5 miles treadmill before weight lifting

10/5 - 5 miles treadmill. Worst workout ever with serious BG problems. So bad that I skipped weight lifting afterwards.
Upcoming Races:
10/21/17 - Oregon Trail Run marathon (First marathon... goal 4:10)0 -
lporter229 wrote: »@PastorVincent @WhatMeRunning and @7lenny7 - Thanks for the input. I will definitely look into the Climacool boxer briefs. The reason I was looking to buy him some running gear is that I don't think this is the kind of stuff he would pick up on his own since he doesn't really do much running. He often still runs in cotton tees. I thought he might like to have some decent gear so he can feel the difference.
Replace his t-shirt with a good tech fabric, and maybe good running shorts, but let him buy his own underwear, IMO. It really is the kind of thing you need to try on and make a call on. As you can probably guess it is a pretty sensitive area and different people find different things comfortable or irritating.
Once you know what he likes, that is different, but since neither of you do, I highly suggest you let him do that or at least bring him with you.

Managed not to murder any toads tonight. Didn't even see one suicidal snake or toad. Maybe I'm marked now or they smell toad guts on my shoes and know to avoid me.

Shocking development for me today. I went to weigh myself and I was happy to see I'd lost 1 more pound. As I walk away one of my students informs me the scale is off. So I'm thinking I'm about to hear that I'm a few pounds heavier. No, 5 pounds lighter. Not sure I totally trust it but for now I'll let it be.11

Lovely day today for a run and I have to say I love how the stress just melts away when I'm running. I feel lucky to carpool with my husband so I can just dump all my stuff in the car on the days I run home. Cooldown was spent walking my kids home from the babysitter's house as I was just running past her house as my husband arrived to pick them up (he went home first).
There are a couple more races on my radar that I'm thinking of signing up for. We will see.
Upcoming Races:

5.6 km with our little 5km Time Trial Training Group.
Sprint Repeats - Goal was to keep your pace "close to your 5k Goal Race Pace" for the 1600,1200 & 800's.
800 m Warm-up
1600m, 1200m, 800m, 400m, 4 x 200m Sprint + 200m RI between.
Very happy with the Improvement in my pace for this Training Session since starting it and my new PB's. At the same time it was interesting to see the big crash / decline I had in the middle of the cycle - That was just a very bad week for me. Strange how it will vary from 6:11 to 3:39 - of course these are all based on 400m repeats. Not sure how I managed the 3:39 - Downhill with a 80 km/h wind ?? . All on the same track. My 3 km Race came in at 5:11/km so right on my 5:10/km average.
10/01 7.2 km – 142.8 km - MTD 007.2 km – YTD 1138.87 km
10/04 9.0 km – 133.8 km - MTD 016.2 km – YTD 1147.87 km

Today's notes: Another flat run. Giving the climbing/hiking muscles a rest seems to be a good thing. It was a bit cool today, just under freezing, but still good shorts and long sleeve shirt weather... Pretty tired today, but that's the rest of my life, not the running.
Have a runderful day all!

All of you barefoot running people are BRAVE. I have broken two toes WALKING barefoot and tripping over air on a smooth flat uncluttered surface. I am WAY to klutzy to try and RUN barefoot outside. I would end up stupidly & permanently disfiguring my foot somehow.
No running for me today. My work schedule at my second job has me working a crazy split shift that starts at 7am and ends at 9pm. I am heading to the gym for a kettlebell class during my long break in-between work shifts.

I had a chance to assess the stairs at Red Rocks. Not gonna lie. Getting up them at the end of the race won't be easy. I don't think I'll be able to take them two at a time without falling on my face. I figure I'll know what to do when I get there and know as soon as I'm at the top, the finish line is 25 yards away.5 -

I think even if you take them one at a time and kind of "skip" up there, you will sprint at the very end. You are killing it! I have walked those steps and know it is killer. AND, you are doing it at serious elevation! I can't wait to hear how it goes this weekend.0
