My second run of the day did not go off quite as planned yesterday. I ended up being at work later than I wanted and when I went to do my run I realized it was raining. It was the kind of rain that I really, really wanted to run in, but I had an appointment with my trainer at the gym at 7, so I knew this would make it hard for me because I would have to swing by my house to get a change of clothes since I would be really wet. Instead I opted for sucking it up on the gym treadmill, which ended up being a wise decision because I got stuck in traffic and only had time for a 20 minute run. I did a ladder run of increasing my speed every minute from 6.2-8 mph then back down, so it was a decent run, just not what i had planned.
This morning I woke up with the intentions of doing a P90X3 video, but my legs were stiff and sore, so I decided to treat them to some yoga instead. Also took the doggie for a nice walk in a light rain. Great way to start the day!

Incorporated some fartlek in this morning's run. Weird I ran the same path as two days ago, but my early AM time was about 30 seconds slower per mile than my evening run on Monday. Happy about a rest day tomorrow, but my long run is 6 miles on Saturday. The only time I've run that distance is in a 10k race, so running that distance as part of training is a milestone. I'm running it close to the route of the 10k I have the end of this month to get a feel for the environment.5 -

It was 33 degrees on my run this morning.3 -
I didn't get out last night. I was exhausted. I was at the Dbacks game until about 11 on Monday and didn't get to bed until almost midnight. I usually go to bed at 10. Tonight I am doing weights so my next run will be Saturday for the Hawaiians Love SPAM race. My goal this month is to try and get more workouts in and get my diet under control. I'm struggling y'all.4

Oct 9 - Skipped. I kept going back and forth and just didn't wanna do it :-/
Oct 10 - 1 mi walk, 3 mi run (with a few little breaks), .5 mi walk
Oct 11 and 12 - Don't run on Wed/Thur.....not until I'm able to make morning running work again
So, we had a huge cool front that dropped us from mid-80s to 50. "Feels like" temp for my run was 45. It was AWESOME. Actually I was a little hot as usual. I wasn't quite sure how to dress since I'm doing the long warm up and cool down and walking is much different than running temp-wise. So I went with a jacket but 3 seconds into running I was hot. But it varied depending on if I was running into the wind so I just unzipped/zipped several times. Overall it wasn't bad and breathing the cooler air was definitely nice.
@Orphia Your back better start behaving! Forgive me if I've forgotten but have you ever had a back problem like this before? That's cool that your bosses thought you should race even if you get set back and miss work. LOL
@garygse Great race and great selfie and great veins :-D
@ariceroni Your pics are lovely but that poor guy grabbing his butt! I have had pain there and it makes me cringe. Ha!
@fitoverfortymom 33 degrees!
I happened to see over on the side of my smashrun page that last year on 10/10 I ran 3 miles at 9:30 pace. Last night's pace was 11:30. Have to keep reminding myself that I've only been back at this for 6 weeks and I'll get back in shape......6 -
4 miles this morning. Still a bit warmer than it should be, but tolerable. Not super fast, but fairly consistent. Day off tomorrow. Chance to hit the gym and work the upper body a bit.

I was just afraid that I've missed some peak by not running in my teens or twenties and now I'm locked into a 15-minute mile forever. True story: when we did the mile test in gym class, I ran 3 laps out of 4 and the teacher gave me my time...because everyone else was finished already...and she thought I'd finished too.
I am never going to be fast either, and that is ok. I am 42 and just starting running again (after a 20 year hiatus) this summer. I finished c25k and was slow but I did my run yesterday and was my fastest ever. 12:45 mm LOL.6 -

You go girl! My first all running 6 mile is this Sunday! Eeek. I walked/ran some of the path last Sunday but this week I want to run the whole thing. Good luck, I know you can do it.

I was playing around with a race predictor on RW. I feel like I'm not to far from where I was before my first HM. Of course, hanging with all these awesome runners, a bit of ability tends to seep in to a runners ego. After all, I got that 1 mile down, most days.
So I plug in my runs and sure enough, I'm just about ready for my first half again. Why not see what I can do with that marathon?? I mean, I'm awesome by association right? LOL! NAH! 6+ hours.
Serious respect for so many of you here. Years of hard work, lots of discipline, many early mornings, calculated nutrition, the wisdom to rest and you still find time to hang out and mentor us.
*High Five* to everyone pounding it out. Idk why I think I can half *kitten* something and be amazing at it. Ego? Human? Lazy?10 -
@Elise4270 6+ for a marathon is still getting it done... I was with my mom 2 weeks ago when she finished her first in 6:24:32, a marathon finisher is a marathon finisher, it doesn't matter the time, it's still a rare breed who will for for it.... you'll be back there before you know it.5

It just really put it all in perspective for me. Just how much endurance and training it takes to accomplish a marathon, or even the half. All I ever want is that sub 2 half, and a 25min 5k.4 -

@Elise4270 - that’s the sort of time I’ll be looking at for my marathon next year. But looking at the results from last year in the same race, I’ll be in good company - NOBODY did under 3:15.2

So I’m Race Director for my own mini-race this weekend. -
Just received a customs charge for a packet from the USA. It must be my AIM at Melanoma race pack (which I didn’t think I’d be getting!). So, Mr. Postie - I leave for my running weekend on Friday, PLEASE get me my race pack before then!!!!!

Just checking in. Congrats to Gary, Amy, Jessica, and John for their awesome racing! Sorry if I missed anyone. I book marked the race reports to go back later. I have to catch up. Feels like I say that every time.
I had my longest run on Monday (20 mi) that was somewhat of a kitten show. I headed out around 7:50a since I had the day off and didn't have the kids. For the first 10 miles I kept in my neighborhood and looped back by my house several times. My gut was literally telling me not to be too far from home. After I made a stop at my house at mile 7, I headed out to a trail to give my feet a break from the street pounding. It'd rained earlier and I knew it would be nice and soft. Just had to watch for puddles and roots. I like running on trails, it's relaxing and easy. It also keeps my mind more engaged with where to put my feet like a game in a way. On roads my brain starts to get bored and wanders. Anyways, so I was running the trail and some kid comes racing up beside me around mile 16-17 and passes me. So what do I do, I take off running after him. I run better when I have people to chase. I did catch him right before he peeled off onto another trail. I was hoping he would've stayed on my trail to push me. I was happy overall with making the distance just not the pacing. I'm not consistent with my splits when I don't have someone to run with and I don't look at my phone enough to correct myself. Tonight's the group runs and it's going to be miserable! 78F 100% humidity. It feels just as bad or worse than any day this past summer. I hope everyone's running happy, staying healthy, or healing well! Also I'll have been streak running for 36 days today. I just started doing this. I know it runs an injury risk but I will say my legs recover faster than before. I'm trying to teach my legs to run fatigued. I just don't want to do any speed work this close to my marathon 28th for fear of injury. I'll attempt it after though.5 -
Yay! I am catching up on the thread finally.
@hanlonsk I have low blood pressure and get something similar once in a while. But ... my peanut allergy started out that way, too, so if you are eating anything before your workouts, you may want to consider that suspect. For me, it got progressively worse and it is because of the anaphylactic reaction causing the drop in bp among other things. Now, I need an epi-pen as I react within seconds. It started out as a delayed 30-min or so reaction so took a while to figure out.1 -
@eponine I am very slow. I am often around 15 mins/mile. I enjoy running, so I try not to let the speed get to me. I am trying to build my aerobic base, but it is taking forever. I am on Strava and Garmin if you ever want to see my paces.3

Great race report @garygse and selfie finish. Congratulations again!1
