I was this friend when I was in high school and into college, or at least that was what my friends would say. But they didn't see me 24/7 as mentioned above. Or they didn't understand calories. I would have a can of Coke and a Snickers for lunch several days a week, which to them would be seen as stuffing my face even though that's just around 400 calories total. Or they'd see me eat gigantic servings at Sunday brunch (my college had an awesome Sunday brunch included in the meal plan) and not factor in that most days of the week I ate much less at meals. Plus I had a job giving walking tours throughout the week. And I was a big fidgeter.23

What are you currently doing? Weight loss isn't difficult. You may be making harder than it needs to be.5

I dont even need to do that .Okay let me tell you what their typical diet is like.Morning breakfast 2 fried eggs 2 sausages 2 rashers 2 pudding 2 slices of toast.Dinner a nine inch pizza with fries and garlic bread. Then a big tub of ben and jerrys later on then a family pack of doritos and a chocolate bar. Then before they sleep they eat sausage rolls more buttered toast and some cookies .Now honestly that has to be atleast 4000 cals
And what do they do all day?
They dont do anything they dont work
So you sit at home with them all day doing nothing?
No I dont .Okay dont believe me then but I know this person inside and out and they have always ate lots of junk food all the time and stayed the same weight
Why does this bother you so much? You have to do what works for you. I can't eat the same as my 100lbs heavier, 7 inches taller than me husband and expect to not gain weight. Thems the facts. *shrug*
Who says it bothers me ? I Posted the question to see if anyone knew how it was possible for them to live like this and stay the same as I am curious I aint bothered hun .
Because their tdee is higher than yours. Are they the same height and weight as you?
Same height not same weight0 -

As much as I'm loving this conversation, and your riddle me this style replies, the answer is always going to be higher tdee...14 -
Don't worry about other people. You are not them and they are not you. Keep your eyes on your own plate.
You have to control your calorie intake and calorie output balance to get the results you want.13 -

Ha, yes! I was definitely on the road to the same results before getting it in gear a few years ago.2 -

I eat tons... especially when I'm out and about... but I'm also bulking. And I'm a jumping bean who hates to sit still. While I gain weight, to people around me (unless they see me in a bikini during the winter) it is hard to notice a difference.4

I'm trying to remember this correctly... There was a thread, I think it was on reddit, where a roommate who used to feel this way about her roomie secretly wrote down everything that person ate and logged it in MFP because it was driving her nuts.
She did this for a couple of weeks, and lo and behold... that person was eating at maintenance.
Her perception didn't match reality when she actually had facts and figures over time staring her in the face.30 -

I have enough trouble logging my own food. I can't imagine going to the trouble of doing it for someone else!22 -
Perceptions can be wrong. I was gaining weight on "nothing.." from my and my families perception. I skipped eating till dinner then "grazed" so it didn't seem like I was eating a whole lot. Yet, here I was, huge as a mountain. So curious, I decided to log AFTER a few days on just memory alone. Over 3k calories just in dinner alone.. ouch. Made me realize that what looks like a little can be packed with calories. My ex and his sister are rail thin and eat nothing but junk food.. alll freaking day.. both are very active. Neither own a car..11

I've been obese and I've been the skinny friend. For me the difference was activity level and age. When I was in college and model thin, I ate ridiculous amounts of food like whole boxes of Oreos dipped in whipped cream. But then I would go to a club and dance for four hours straight without sitting down, or spend 6 hours hiking, or all day swimming. When I tore out my ACL a few years later and was forced into inactivity for several months, the weight came on quickly.
Medications also make a difference for me. I'm allergic to Christmas trees so I take an antihistamine for a couple of weeks each year. During those weeks I eat at a deficit and log exactly the same as before, but my weight doesn't move. When I go off them, I go right back to losing weight. I've seen a similar effect with other medications such as Glimeperide. I can see on my weight trend the bulge where I had to take Glimeperide for a couple of weeks.8 -

IKR?
It was really bothering her, though. Let's just say she was invested.6 -
I have friends who say that about me but they don't know how much further from the truth they could be. I notice it's mostly people I go on outings with. They have no idea that 80% of the time I eat extremely healthy and monitor every bite so that I can cut loose when I go out or that I exercise intensely and religiously 5 to 6 days a week, no exceptions. Some people do gave an unnaturally high metabolism but some of us just work really hard.13

I used to want to be one of those people but now I'm glad I'm not. My need to log my food has let to such a healthier lifestyle. So what if they're thin? How do they FEEL? Tired, sluggish? What do their arteries look like? How is their blood pressure, their cholesterol? I'm not saying to ask but there is so much more to eating well and exercising than just being thin.8

No, it was a segment on a show. I can't find it in my history. I originally found it from a link on this forum.
The bottom line was that heavier friend ate way more calories than the skinny friend. The heavier woman under estimated her intake and over estimated her friends.2
