Really sleepy today. Struggling to stay awake in class. Dead legs while walking too. Must have tired myself out on the weekend.2

Did Winsor Pilates Accelerated Body Sculpting DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do one segment of Tone Trouble Zones DVD, hold my plank then take the extremepump class.
A gal who used to play mahjongg with us and then moved to Charlotte has tomorrow off from work so we're going to go to the gal who usually has it's home early and all meet up. She's going to make dinner and has asked me to bring some pineapple. I think I'll just stop at the store after the extremepump class and buy some already cut up. I know it would be cheaper to buy a whole pineapple, but it also would be more work than I care to go to. Plus, I don't have a pineapple corer so I'd have to cut it.
It's this one gal at the place where I take the extremepump's birthday tomorrow so I'll take the chocolate chip banana muffins I made to her. Have some for Lynette. So all of them are gone.
Of course, we have senior bowling tomorrow. It's cold here (for us) so I brought my bowling ball in from my trunk where I usually keep it.
M - congrats on the run. Hopefully, someone on here will have an idea of what could be causing the numbness. That must be so frustrating. Tell me more about spinning to stretch out.
Lanette - please share your "eating when not hungry" strategies. That's one problem I have.
I'm TRYING to clean out some of my cookbooks. If there are only a few recipes that I'm interested in a cookbook, I type them onto the computer. Then they'll go to the Salvation Army
Rita - I think we call people out of love.
Rye - I couldn't tell anything, either, with your eye. I have a lazy eye, too.
My father used to call his mother at the same time every day. One day he was late and she got so upset. when I started calling my father every day, I made sure to make it at a different time every day just so he wouldn't worry about something having happened to me.
Evelyn - happy birthday to your hubby. How do you cook your ribeye in winter?
Helped Vince get most of the Christmas decorations put away in the garage. Until next year....which will come too soon, I just know it.
Rye - you are beautiful inside AND out.

well not been a brilliant week eating wise or exercise wise, still struggling with sciatica which is slowing me up, so hope I do better this week. Not sleeping well due to the pain waking me up and then cannot get comfortable, been to the physio, Dr's and taking medication which isn't working and I know if I go back to the Dr's he will just give more medication and tell me what I already know a trapped nerve. So important that I shift this 7kg as that doesn't help. Anyway whinging over, have a good day everyone ;-)4

Do you take your shoes off at the door? My husband taught me to... I didn't grow up that way. But, for those struggling with health issues, or living with others who do, this makes interesting reading. https://braincharm.com/2018/01/02/these-are-the-disgusting-reasons-why-you-should-never-wear-shoes-at-home/. Michele, I ended buying a couple of small sirloin cap steaks instead, no rib eyes that I could see. They were very tasty! I melted a bit of butter in a fry pan, added fresh garlic and then the steaks. So basically, I fried them. I was a little worried that the butter or garlic would burn, but I turned the heat down quickly after the first quick sear so it was all good. Next time I may use olive or grapeseed oil. They were so good!! Sirloin steak can be kinda chewy, but the cap is quite tender.
I was very impressed with myself today, I did go over but I had the steak, garlic mashed potatoes and steamed veggies plus a chocolate cupcake and was still less than 100 calories over! I also walked quite a bit at work today, but did not count that even though my fit bit says I walked for 50 min. It wasn't all at once but most of it was fairly brisk so I'm just calling today good! I did have breakfast and lunch too, but kept them fairly lo cal.
M, I definitely think talking to your chiro about your numb foot is a good idea, he/she may have some insight and may be able to help.
ThaiKaren, perhaps you could try a chiropractor instead of gp for your sciatica, chiro might be able to manipulate your back to take the pressure off the nerve. Could be worth a try!
Rye, okay in the second photo I can see the lazy eye, but still no mad eye moody!
That's enough for me for today. I am pooped out! A former coworker would say "better pooped out than pooped on!". Bless his little heart.
Have a good one!

I almost always take my shoes off when I enter a house. I don't want to track whatever I've been walking in outside all over my floor.

My father's comfort food was soft boiled eggs. That's what he always offered me when I was sick or sad. I could never understand what he liked so much about them.
Our anniversary was perfect. Jake bought me a beautiful card that said he'd marry all over again and that he'd married his favorite person. I found the album of our wedding pictures and we spent time looking at them. We did things alone and together including laundry, TV, going to one of our favorite restaurants where we didn't overeat, and taking a nap for more than two hours with the pets. Who could ask for anything more.
Stats for today:
*15,000 steps
*210 minutes walking Sasha and Bessie
*110 minutes riding the exercise bike
While walking today, I listened to two podcasts--one was an interview with the author of "Bored and Brilliant" and another about minimalism.

Talking of decluttering, I got my new mattress delivered today, I'm downsizing from a double bed to a single as i originally got the double so I could let.my parents use it when they visited, and I liked the extra room. My parents no longer visit, I go to see them, and I've lost enough weight that I should be comfortable in a single. The delivery guys took both my old mattresses and hopefully St Vincents will take the double bed frame, so now I just have to clear out all the un needed bed sheets etc, then hopefully give away another cupboard3

Blew off the timer to get caught up, but did get up and do something every page or two.
Awhile back someone mentioned a CD to help the voice, would you remind?
Joe saved a Colombo for me to watch with him, so I did. BUT instead of simply watching and being with him... I drank and ate and drank and ate some more. Blearg. Really must have some mending handy for sitting-with-Joe-time. It's all logged and tomorrow is already planned to be better, despite the 7 hr round trip drive.
Turmeric, have a jar of it somewhere. Found the empty capsules but can't find the Tumeric to fill them. Pantry is sooo crowded, need to step up the "use what we have for dinner" action.
Beef. Was an ovo lacto veg for 7 years but went back to eating meat when I broke my wrist the first time. Not a great dinner cook, better baker. Thanks to the internet finally found a recipe for prime rib roast that works for us. Joe said it was as good as O'Hollerans, our local fine dining establishment. Such praise! We ate off it for 3 days and it was as good on the last day as the first. Good thing it's only on sale during the holidays, and I only bought one!
Machka, I looked at the saag paneer and just.... couldn't. Something about the color and texture of slow cooked chopped spinach turned my stomach.
the chickpea red curry didn't have an image so as I read the ingredients I was happy to have most already in the cupboard... until I got to the 4 C of spinach. Will just leave that out and serve with a side salad instead. Thanks!
Tere I've never been without Vicks, for chest congestion, colds, etc. Didn't know there were other uses... what else besides promoting hair growth? really?
Rita that is one heckuva wind sock! and scary looking succulent. Hope finding it lifted your spirits!
Karen in VA Olivia's face is so expressive, you may have an oscar winner on your hands!
Barbie Yay for Jake home a day early, a great anniversary present Thanks for "emotional kevlar vest". What a helpful image!
Margaret snow clearing at 2 am? What company would do that??? Dr. has me upping calcium and Vit D as well as adding the Fosamax. I'm good with the supplements, will try to talk him out of the Fosamax Tuesday Brava for choosing problem solving instead of victim mode. Brava!
Allie ditto what Terry, Michele, Heather, Katla, Evie, Barbie, Sharon and especially Lenora said about Tom and the alimony. Couragia!
Michele, No Dr. has ever suggested injectables, just as well as I really really fear/hate needles. Is your osteoporosis severe? Healthy girl chocolate donuts? Let us know how they turn out, would really like to get Joe off his Donette kick
Heather your son looks so relaxed and happy! Girlfriend too What lovely gifts.
Kate "if it ain't broke..." you are so right!
KJ Love your mindful fast. Brava!
Katla "robin's egg sized gallstone"? Horrible pain indeed! Thanks for the fosamax rules reminder, pretty sure that's the way I did it back in the day. Dr rxds the once weekly variety too, but will still try to weasel out...
pip love the alternative energy shirt
DrKatiebug, Dave sounds like a real dickens! 900 square feet? with children??? Cannot imagine!
Rye Hubba hubba! Comfort foods, good question. When I'm sick, want tea, tomato soup, peanutbutter toast and ginger ale. Emotionally I go for the crunch when agry, sweets when sad. Ditto what Beth said so well.
Machka does your left ankle swell more than the right?
Terry "all I can do is let her figure it out and be there..." wise words. 60 down to 6" (shivershudder)
Wendy Spider in the bed? Eeeeeeeeeek! You were God's hands to that little bird.
Carol, I shuddered and blushed when you asked Lenora about the stuffed animals. DH found a thrift store selling them for 50 cents each so for a year he'd bring home 4 or 5 every week for Tumble. Even though she's "killed" some (and I've been able to throw away the remains) we still have two GIANT boxes of them, not counting the dozen on the living room floor... and the 5 extra favorites in the mending pile ;} THEN I saw you meant taxidermy not toys. LOL!
Lenora Brava for showing decorators the door. Hate it when they paint paneling. Also when they paint exterior brick.
Lisa I didn't dare follow the link, we have dogs
Time to meditate and sleep. Must get up early tomorrow to drive 2.5 hrs to Grants Pass for car recall work. Nearest dealer. They want to keep it all day so they'll give me a loaner. I'll take it to Medford for the periodic pilgrimage to Trader Joe's.
There, that's it, all caught up. Probably won't post tomorrow, then will be behind again Tuesday
Mindful and WARM Hugs to all,

Mad-Eye Rye, I admire your strength of character and I too, think you are beautiful, inside and out. I have not got your courage to reveal all my imperfections to the world at large. But I hope I can call you Friend. I loved the character of Mad Eye Moody and I prefer friends who are real and kind and warm-hearted and have a great sense of humour. I do not choose my friends on the basis of their weight or on their beauty. Yes, we are all here because we struggle with losing or maintaining our weight but this is also a place where we can feel accepted despite how we look or how we feel about our image. This is why I like Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes writings about how different societies view body images and the role of women. She has opened my eyes to how critical I am of my own self, whereas I do not put the same expectations on others. What is really important is how we treat other people but we shouldn't be so hard on ourselves either. Wendy Peed her Pants (That was the horrible nickname the kids at school called me.)3

Hi Ladies, feeling a bit better and will be going to work today. Trying hard to catch up (on P41) but think it's a losing battle, as have to catch up to P60!!
My friend is going to get me some vitamins from the health shop today, can't quite remember what they are but they are to help my immune system. I feel as if I need a boost as still lacking in energy and tire easily.
Better get ready for work, sorry to hear about Pokey, we have recently lost two furbabies, our old Cat Wizzy and our dog Frankie.
Interesting topics covered, I'll try to reply more individually when (if) I catch up.

I was thinking about comfort foods and I realize it is different for every situation. When I lived on the rehab floor of the hospital I remember asking my sis-in-law to bring me raw carrots and an apple. It was all I could think about.
Body image, bad nick names, bullying. The things we have to fight/work through can be so tough. Funny how our image of ourselves can be so different from what others see. We need to be gentle with ourselves. Rye, I stand by everyone that has told you how beautiful you are.
This morning I went for a drive with Larry. It was about an hour away. We went to look at a 1966 car that we hoped would be a parts car. I read my bible, did my duolingo and wrote in my journal ( I have been neglecting that). We then went for coffee at my friend, Jo-Anne's. We have been best friends since I started school so that's been a while. We don't see each other often, maybe once or twice a year. We just slide right in as if we were together yesterday. We talked of siblings, kids, grandkids, school mates and future plans. 1 1/2 hrs seemed too short.
This afternoon was Harmony's 6th Birthday Party. It was so noisy. I envied Larry being able to turn off his hearing aids. I would say the party was a success. Harmony did look so tired by the end. Leaving you with some photos of the Birthday cake. I have to admit that I succumbed to the lure of the home made cake. Why did I teach that girl to bake and decorate? Lol. All I need is some will power but not sure where to look for that.
Did I mention that the mountains were majestic and filled me with awe this morning? I live in a beautiful province. I love that I only have to travel about an hour either south or west and be in the Rockies. They are spectacular and I love the way they look with snow on them.

Thanks all!
Some background and some answers regarding my foot ...
First, I burned my left foot to the bone in 2001. It took a long, long time before the nerves came back to life, and even longer for the scar tissue to loosen up enough that I could even run.
Then, in 2009, I developed DVT in my left leg and was hospitalised for 2 weeks. My leg was chock full of clots ... the main veins were completely shut. I was quite fortunate not to have much lasting damage, but I do have some.
So in answer to the question, does my left ankle swell more than the right ... yes, it does.
With that in mind, I loosened that shoe off just before the run, and after my foot fell asleep the first time, I loosened it even more ... but that didn't help.
Walking, however, did help. Within just a few steps my foot was back to life. I actually felt good enough to run the whole thing, but ended up walking short stretches several times to put life back into my foot.
So I do wonder about my back. Perhaps when I run I'm pinching a nerve.
Now regarding electrolytes ...
The major electrolytes are:
sodium (Na+)
potassium (K+)
chloride (Cl-)
calcium (Ca2+)
magnesium (Mg2+)
bicarbonate (HCO3-)
phosphate (PO42-)
sulfate (SO42-)
These articles (and others) explain electrolytes:
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/153188.php
https://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/diet-fitness/information/question565.htm
If a person exercises, or even moves about in hot conditions, and sweats a lot, that person loses electrolytes. Then if that person drinks a lot of water that can throw the electrolyte balance out of whack and puts the person in danger of hyponatremia. Much of the time people are OK because many people have high sodium diets so they replace their electrolytes. However, if a person exercises a lot and loses a lot of electrolytes ... or if a person is on a low-sodium diet, the danger of hyponatremia increases.
However, before a person gets right into hyponatremia one of the early symptoms is water retention. My feet and ankles swell and I put on a kg or two. Usually taking an electrolyte tablet or two sets the situation right ... within half an hour or so, I'm feeling better and within a couple hours, I've started making tracks to the toilet.
Now, I have been all the way into hyponatremia. I made a mistake with my nutrition on a hot 600 km cycling event, and had to pull the plug at 320 km. My mother is a nurse and between her and my knowledge of hyponatremia, I was able to recover within about 12 hours, but there were a few hours early on that were a bit dicey and I almost ended up in hospital.
Since then, I've taken electrolyte tablets when I exercise. Or ... actually, I've been taking them when I cycle and totally forgot about taking them when I run!! Oops! I did take one the night before this most recent run, and another as soon as I got home ... and my ankles and feet didn't swell so much.
In the US, Hammer Nutrition's Endurolytes are quite common, and thankfully, I've found a source for them here in Australia too: https://www.hammernutrition.com.au/product/endurolytes/
Their nutrition information says:
Serving Size 2 capsules
Amount Per Serving %DV
Sodium (as Sodium Chloride) 80mg 4%
Chloride (as Sodium Chloride) 120mg 4%
Calcium (as Chelate) 100mg 10%
Magnesium (as Chelate) 50mg 12%
Potassium (as Chelate) 50mg 1%
Manganese (as Chelate) 500mcg 25%
The ones I've got right now are Saltstick Caps which I was able to find in Canada, but are apparently also available in the US: http://saltstick.com/product/saltstick-caps/
Their nutrition information says: ... and the website shows some comparisons between other products.
215 mg sodium
63 mg potassium
22 mg calcium
11 mg magnesium
100 IU Vitamin D to help the body absorb and utilize calcium.
So there are different options available.
Regarding 'spinning to stretch out' ...
When I run, for some reason everything feels really tight by the time I'm done (my legs). I find that if I go for a light bicycle ride or ride on my trainer, it helps ease off that tightness and makes my legs feel better.
So after my longer runs, I'll nip out for a quick 20 km ride ... or yesterday, since the weather wasn't great in the afternoon, I rode my trainer for 45 minutes.
And finally ... yes, I did have fun!
But now, as I think I mentioned earlier, my focus has got to be on cycling for a while.

Yes saag paneer is green.
There are two similar dishes: palak paneer and saag paneer. Palak paneer is spinach and saag paneer is "greens". So you could use any greens for saag paneer.
I've made them myself, I've used the packaged kind, and I've had them in Indian restaurants (my favourite dish! ), and they're each a little bit different depending exactly what is put into them.
Sounds like 4 cups of fresh spinach in the chickpea red curry ... but you could probably leave them out if you wanted. I modify and vary these recipes to taste or depending on what I've got in the cupboard.

Didn’t mean to start or imply any melodrama. My eye is much like my husband’s baldness. He is used to it, and it had a much bigger impact in his self esteem when he was in his twenties. It became an unpleasant descriptive reality (“the bald man”).
The only difference is, I am told that my ‘funny eye’ is only slightly visible on occasion. But, because it is always very visible in the mirror - it IS the way I look - in my mind at least. But I’ve always thought of myself as the girl (now the lady) with the funny eye. So the major effect on my self-esteem is historical. At 53, I just don’t think about it much anymore.
But, yeah, it did leave me pretty incompetent when it comes to gracefully taking a compliment. I became a star when it comes to deflecting a compliment tho!

Machka. Thanks for the info on electrolytes. I’m going to keep that in mind. Congrats on the run, but I join the chorus: I don’t think your foot is supposed to go numb, so please have it checked.
Sharon. I wish I could take some of your snow. And the cake looked fabulous.
Barbara, wow, your message to us all is mightily impressive!!! But don’t think you have to do that every time. We are so chatty that to reply to each one on the board would turn into a full time job, I think.
———
So why am I up at 4:39? Because my husband found a recipe by his favourite internet chef (Chef John on Food Wishes) for Chicago Style Deep dish pizza. Which my husband quickly figured out how to modify to Chicago style STUFFED pizza (the ‘real Chicago pizza that chicagoans keep for themselves as a secret - not the stuff available elsewhere under the name ‘Chicago style pizza)’. And it was VERY good and we can easily see how next time it will be even better.
But acid indigestion and reflux were the result. So, I’m sitting up for a bit. Going to have to put together a bland menu for tomorrow- and wait a week or so before I eat cheese again.

Quote,Ladies - if any of you are interested, there's an 8 part docuseries coming up starting Jan 17th called "Broken Brain". Topics are Alzheimers, Dementia, Brain Fog, Autism, etc.
The link is found at www.brokenbrain.com and they want you to pre-register. Looks like it's free (for now) and likely a new episode each day.
It's by Mark Hyman, MD - I think I've seen him on PBS in the past. I haven't researched it, but they'll probably cover nutrition, sleep, etc.
I plan to watch it, or part of it. Looks like good presenters.

She raised her family, was a business woman, running her own top rated bakery for years. It did the same to her it does to most, took her mind away.A sad situation for her family & I cried. So far as I know, there has been no break thru.
RYE.....you’re looking fine to me,but it’s what it means to you that matters. My Sis has a lazy eye.........we are just used to it.

Hi ladies,
I have the day to myself as I have a holiday and DD and DH have to work. Been looking forward to this. Don’t have the car so just going to putter around the house.
Bound and determined to get back on track eating wise. Been out of control and don’t like the feeling.
Seems how we view ourselves is different from how others view us. Not sure if I have already told you this. The first date I had with DH was to dinner and a movie. I’ve always been self conscious of my large butt so when I got up to use the restroom at the movies I had to scoot past the seats to get out. My only thought was how big my butt must look and that I probably wouldn’t have a second date. Obviously we did have that second date. After we had been together for a number of years we were talking about that first date and I shared how I felt when I got up to go to the bathroom. My DH said that was funny as he was thinking “what a great looking *kitten*”. Taught me to never think you know what others are thinking.
Sharon , lovely granddaughter and beautiful cake.
Machka, great pictures.
NYKaren, maybe the winter blues is my problem too and the reason I’m having problems staying on track.
Rye, I suffer with acid reflux too. Sometimes I drink a glass of really cold water and that seems to help. Not sure why.
Viv, glad you are feeling better today.
-6 here this morning so got to get up and start a fire. Think I’ll try the kettlebells first as I get so hot when I excercise. Yes, you heard right, I’m going to exercise. Got to get started and have put it off for too long. I’ve lost 40 lbs now and starting to get saggy skin. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Have a great day ladies

Ha! Terry - When I saw my now-ex-husband for the first time, I was about a size 10, and honestly the hottest I ever was, before or since. I asked him at a later point what he was thinking when he saw me. He said that he thought, as I was walking toward him, that I looked hot, but as I walked past him, he thought, "Naw, her butt's too big." I gained another 180 pounds after we married, so it ended up being a prediction, I'm thinking...
Please note, I realized long after I left him that he was the master of the hurtful... I asked him once what he thought of my new haircut, which I'd gotten for an upcoming interview. He said he didn't know why I'd "get a Burger King haircut to interview for a $50,000 a year job."
The current and final husband tells me I'm beautiful, even when I feel at my worst. I think I'll keep him.
Love y'all,

Barbara, wow, your message to us all is mightily impressive!!! But don’t think you have to do that every time. We are so chatty that to reply to each one on the board would turn into a full time job, I think.

I can so relate, i'lll explain later1
