Hi Gals,
Machka – interesting about not finding pectin, and jars easily, all of the grocery stores, and even many of the discount or hardware stores carry them here.
Kelly – my heart breaks for that situation…
Planning - I also plan well out, I have an event in May well planned, and by June will buy the next year’s planner…
Pip – nothing looking old there!!!
Lanette - Salad dressing, I love the stuff, especially the creamy ones, so as I realized the amount of calories in them I started trying all sorts of ones and some recipes and finally found BOLTHOUSE, they are in the refrigerated section of the produce isle in Safeway and Lucky and they are yogurt based, so not too many unpronounceable things, taste good to me, and they run 40-50 calories for 2 tablespoons.
Katla – I’m glad to hear you got to go visit Arrow, I find getting outside and doing something challenging can help my mood, and focuses my energy in a different direction.
My company is running late getting here, so having a very productive morning… Love those times.
Smiles

Just booked the hotel for two nights in April in York for "the girls" next get together. I booked the same hotel we stayed at last time - a very grand old fashioned place . Last time the indoor swimming pool was included - alas, not now, you have to pay extra. Won't bother. I haven't booked their extortionate breakfast either, but may cave in. I will take Quest bars and fruit. There is free tea and coffee in the room. The booking is cancellable, but I have yet to book a cheap train fare, which won't be cancellable. . Tempted to just wing it and pay full fare. Last time I really loved the lounge bars, which were beautiful with old fashioned sofas etc. Very attentive waiters. I love to treat myself, especially when I am on my own. Feels very grown up.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx6 -

well here he is after his trip to the groomers~ Mr Alfie..8

Katla The broken brain links are capricious, just like Arrow! If not for Lanette's link, I would not be able to access episode 3. I accessed 1 & 2 by going to brokenbrain.com/01 and then brokenbrain.com/02, but when I tried the same for episode three, it said it was expired. But it's not. And I am not getting proper emails. I got the one for episode 1 twice and not one for episode 2 or 3. So I think I am the wrong one to ask. Lanette seems to have a handle on it. Fitting that the 3rd episode is on dementia, as I feel a little demented after all of that.
My cleaner is like a family member, and we are satisfied with her work. She is very flexible, as are we. Your cleaner sounds expensive and mediocre.
It sounds as if you & Arrow had a tough day. Sending a (((hug)))

Thanks ... for the info on the strainers that can be used for yogurt. I was tempted to buy some fancy-dancy yogurt strainer that was linked to my recipe (just a fine mesh strainer over a container) ... coffee filters and a regular strainer sound like a better deal.
The yogurt has set! Will strain later this evening. I took a little taste ... tasted good!3 -
Allie - Alfie is ADORABLE! What a cutie. I had a pupster like that about 20 years ago, her name was Bear and she was the best. I got goosebumps just looking at the pictures you posted, and a little teary-eyed. Good luck to your dad next week. And you - hope things are going smoother with all that.
Broken Brain Episode 3 - very good, it's long. I watch it in "spurts" so hope to rewatch it again tomorrow. They tell a lot about eating healthy fats - olive oil and avocados. Looks like the Mediterranean diet, a keto diet, doing intermittent fasting (IF), and cardio exercise every day is a good thing. In addition to eliminating sugars and processed food, of course.
And meditation helps! Even doing it for a week has remarkable results.
Those of you doing IF - do you save your coffee, if you drink it, for the 8 hour window? I need it when I first get up (normally between 4 and 5 am), often to quell a teensy sinus headache. I put milk or hemp milk in it to cut the acid. Then, I can easily wait a few hours to actually eat food - so eating between 8 am and 4 pm wouldn't be a problem since I generally turn in by 7:30. Maybe it doesn't make that much difference.
I try to walk each day - I don't huff and puff by any means, but walk at a fairly good clip. And do strength training every other day, including some jumping jacks. I generally work up a sweat by the end of the workout. I'd like to do something to get my blood really pumping (high intensity) on the off days. Suggestions - running in place? More jumping jacks?
I'm about 2/3 through Episode 3.

Got our closing date on the warehouse, which is next Thursday. As long as the guy's got the money, it's slated to go through January 25. Trying not to hold my breath... but the anticipation of that weight being lifted is pretty hard to dismiss.

Lanette: re coffee. There are almost as many opinions about morning coffee and IF as there are IF practicing folk. A common view is that if you keep your total calories ( from milk/sweetener) under 50 cals, go ahead and enjoy your coffee.
I drink mine black, and have 3 cups everyday first thing. No exceptions IF or not. I am a monster otherwise.4 -
Lanette, I drink coffee usually mocha turmeric coconut oil most days whether or not it is a fast day or semi fast day. It is a drug, of course, but like most natural drugs, a small amount is okay. If it helps you achieve your goals, IMO use it. I drink it throughout the day if I need a pick me up to get me over the hump. I try not to drink it in the evening though, as I know I will lie awake. Another good little natural drug is Ginseng. I took two capsules this morning.
Lisa, I will hold my breath for you! LOL I am already holding it waiting for our shares to be paid out...
Allie, you sure picked a cute bed buddy! No wonder people are lining up to take him for walks. LOL He's a little heart warmer.
Just been out doing the bees. Weighed myself before and after. Dropped a pound, seriously, from doing bees. The sweat was just pouring down my body today while I worked and I had to pick up some heavy boxes. It is like working out in a sauna.
I'm heading into town now to visit the police station to sign papers, and then go for a long walk. Might take Major with me.
Here's my new favourite quote from the book I am reading now, Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss: "Not my circus, Not my monkeys." It's a Polish proverb. That is good advice some of the time.... Wendy6 -
Katla - Gosh, that is very expensive! Mine comes through an agency and even with the agency fee it is just over half what you are paying. My son has an "if and when" cleaning company come in when they can't stand their house any longer. They do a brilliant job, hotel standard. When I employed direct I paid the cleaner more, but still only about half what you are paying.
Lanette - I think everyone knows what they should do and should eat. Getting people to actually do it would be an amazing feat! My thoughts are that when I was fat and unhealthy I had no idea how good being ultra well would feel. So I let the moment take me over. Then I got sick and tired of feeling sick and tired and something clicked, but I had no idea how wonderful good eating and exercise feels. I still am amazed every day. I don't take any of it for granted.
I think you need to find an aerobic/cardiovascular exercise you personally enjoy. If you don't enjoy it you won't stick with it.

Hi everyone, happy to see a discussion with my generation I'm new to using MFP but will follow along. I've been signed up for ages but haven't begun using the site too much. I would love to connect with some of you so I have friends on my feed.

Apparently, I am stuck with the $125 bill for a medication I cannot take. They said that I was on it when I ordered the refill and they can't take it back. They did the refill 'in good faith'. Well, in 'good faith' I am telling you that I am allergic to it. Suck it up and pay for it. Just means that I will have to save up to go to the dentist.
I am just blown away about the couple keeping their 13 children locked up, starving, and that nobody, especially other family members even cared enough to find out why they never saw them. Most people brag about a new baby in the family. I hope they throw the book at them. Maybe the 'eye for an eye' effect out to be something we do. Put them in prison, let them only take a bath once or twice a year; only feed them once a day. I figure that both of them will be in solitary a lot during their prison time because other prisoners will beat the (^&^ out of them. Prisoners don't like child molesters and they certainly were molesting their children, in the worst possible manner.
I think they about have my meds tweaked. Only thing different now than what was before I went into the hospital is that my Dilantin has increased by 100mg. Everything else went back to pre-hospitalization. Definitely feeling much better.
Getting MRI next Thursday. Might take a few days before I find out what it shows. Maybe that following Monday or Tuesday.

Allie, Alfie is just plain adorable! Such cute puppy eyes! {{{HUGS}}} for you and your dad. Hoping that all goes well.
I, too, am absolutely blown away by those people and their kids! How can somebody do that to their children??? I just can't fathom it. And definitely shame on anybody who knew something funny was going on and didn't bother to contact anyone.
Heather, you are so right! I know what I should and shouldn't eat. It's sticking to just that that makes life interesting (or difficult! lol).
Wendy, we've been using the "not my circus, not my monkeys" for a long time. Older son has changed it to "not my sea monkeys, not my pond" I kind of like that one and have been known to use and/or modify it myself! (not my honey bees, not my hive?? lol)
Lisa, keeping my fingers crossed for you! Sure would be exciting for you to get rid of the warehouse!
Yesterday was a productive day. Didn't get in any exercise, skipped the gym today too, just felt I needed sleep more. I have been trying to get in some extra steps at work, and that has been going well. But yesterday I got Christmas stuff all put away, sorted through some linens and got rid of a pile, have 3 boxes, one is Christmas stuff that I will have to hang on to til this fall, I don't imagine the places that accept donations would appreciate that stuff now, but that's okay. I have another one that's not Christmas that I think will probably get more stuff put in it and then there is one box that I will donate to a charity that helps mostly women get back on their feet. They will help men also, but it's primarily women. They accept household goods that are in good shape, gently used is their mantra. I have some brand new candle sets that are quite lovely but I'm just not into candles right now and they are taking up space. I bought them when I was selling Avon, thinking that someone else might buy them and then I would already have it, but that didn't work out. Oh well, someone will enjoy them! I also have a box of recyclable electronic stuff and one of paper. I went through some of my stuff and decided that I really didn't need my school report cards etc. Still have a bunch of photos that I need to go through, probably a lot of those can be dumped too. Felt good to go through all that stuff! Found the top of a couple of surfaces and managed to get the closet door in my computer/craft room closed! Very exciting!! lol
Pip, you look amazing!
Must go.

Yeah! I’ve finally decided on a name for a jewelry business. There is no other website or e-mail with this name and I will own it. DH is setting up the email and website address in my name. Now I just have to create a website and take pictures of my jewelry.
The name will be “Speaking in Rings”.
I’m so happy to have finally made a decision. Also, I just have to do a few more tweeks to the design of my business card and I can have them printed. Right now the S in the word speaking is one of my bracelets shaped like an S.

The book I'm reading right now is "Thinner This Year" by one of the authors of "Younger Next Year". It is filled with the "hows" and "whys" of healthy eating and exercise.4

Good evening friends. Played 9 holes of golf. It was cold and windy so didn’t finish 18. Went to dentist for cleaning and checkup Monday. Today bit into a honey graham cracker and broke a tooth. What the heck. Monday everything looked good and healthy.
Lisa- also holding my breath for the closing.
Katla-I think of you when I go to yoga. I am hoping for that good feeling but right now it is a bit hard. I know I need more practice.
Allie- Allie is soooo cute. I know he is a lot of company for you.
Better get off computer.

Hi my dear friends,
I've read a bit but missed most. Just wanted to touch base and let you know I'm thinking of you all. I'm eating better and doing a bit of exercise. I hope to get back in my routine when my schedule slows down.
My best friend from Charlotte, where I used to live, is going to move here some time this year. I'm so very excited. We were very, very close for years and I've missed her terribly.
Good thoughts for all and good health, too.
Love and miss you,

Allie, Alfie is such a cutie. No wonder you fell for him. Is he a good dog?
I have a good way of limiting my dressing in a salad. I cut my greens pretty fine and then put my dressing on. And then I toss and toss. Doing that I only use a very small amount of dressing. My husband loves it coated, really coats and dripping in dressing.
This morning when I woke up for the first time to go potty, my hand felt so much better. Not normal but not burning. I was so encouraged. But I went back to bed and when I got up for the day it was back to the usual burning.somi am hoping it means we are getting close to the dosage need to take care of this nerve pain.
Machka, you sure are a busy person. My Mom used to mak grape jam and I remember pectin and those jars. But oh the wonderful jam that would be in the pantry, she kept picked beets, jams and tomatoes in the pantry all the time. Also they had a big garden and had a lot of potatoes and carrots. Dad kept a big barrel of sand in the pantry and kept the carrots in that. He found an article in a gardening that you plant a tomato inside a potato and plant the potato. The tomato feeds off the potato in the ground. You then have a bumper crop of tomatoes above the ground and potatoes in the ground.
Well the evening grooming has begun. Melody starts on Mozart's tail and has made her way up his belly. But so far Mozart has remained passive. He looks like he is asleep. So no competitive grooming tonight????? Charlie tends to over salt our porch and sidewalk and therefore we get it inside on our shoes. Mozart loves t just lay crosswise in the hallway. I guess what is in his tail could be salt. Yuck. Melody is now cleaning Mozart's toes. I have never seen. That one before.
Michelle picked up her bowel prep for her colonoscopy today. I sure hope they find out what is wrong. I have a feeling it will be irritable bowel disease with constipation. I have the same thing only it is with diarrhea. She is constinalty constipated and bloated and uncomfortable.
Still watching the European figure skating championships. I even have the Olympic channels best of past Olypmic figure skating. I think it is mainly the women's figure skating. It is such a beautiful sport.
I agree, Pip, your bod is beautiful. It doesn't look aged att all. I think Kirby would agree. How about an ab shot of Kirby!!!!
Sun was beautiful today, did sme melting of snow. It think it got up to about 41. It is supposed to gradually warm up every day and Sunday up to 50 and Sunday night have some rain which will help some more with the snow melting. Our kids haven't had school all week, in fact Friday of last week was their first snow day and haven't been in school since. I haven't seen any snow men in the yards so parents aren't making sure their kids get out in this snow, but I guess in their defense, it has been very cold. But Ellie has been going to work with Christina since she likes her bosses an who is also 11. They have made a snow fort and done a lot of sledding. For those who don't know, my daughter Christina is a personal assistant to a man who has a lot of different businesses, most of them mining, she has an office at his house. So she goes to work at his house every day. His wife home schools their 3 children. They have Nathan, the 11 year old and then 2 teenage girls. Christina also has a teenage girl, Trinity but she doesn't have any interest in going over there on their snow days. For heir snow day home work, Ellie had a gym assingment of playing in snow. Trinity had a choir assignment of looking up u-tube musicals and singing along. So they both enjoyed those. Their school does a good job of doing daily assignments for each class. They never have to have make up days like our school corporation does because of how the teachers are on there every day putting that days assignment and also being available once a day for help if needed. But I have loved their school system from the beginning, they have one school for kindergarteners. All the tables are little, bathrooms and everything are geared to that size. Then when you get to first grade, you are in a classroom that allows you to go to a second grade room if toy excel. Also every first grader gets a welcome letter from a scone grader.
Ok, enough of me blabbing tonight. Joyce, Indiana5 -
I went to the Y totally expecting the class. And it was closed! Yup, the doors were locked. So I came home and did the Peak 10 DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do Jari Love's Get Ripped 1000 DVD (I do wish she'd come up with different names)
M - if you have too many cherries, you can always send some my way. I would't object....lol
Played mahjongg today then went to Lowes Foods. Got Hamburger Helper on sale, with my coupons, but they didn't have any chicken breasts that I wanted. The old excuse "with this storm, the trucks weren't able to get thru". Anyway, so I went to Food Lion and got some sweet potatoes that were on sale, Gatorade for Vince that was on sale (but not a great sale), Vince needed milk, and they did have the chicken. I'll probably make it tomorrow.
Just got back from WalMart. See, last year Jess' bf gave Vince this real neat picture. Well, Jess mentioned if he had it framed (which at the time he didn't) and I've been on his case to get a frame. He framed it but needed the wire to hang it. The frame comes with a hanger but it's not real good.
Mary - great to see you.
Ovaltine ... reminds me of a that Christmas movie where the kid gets the secret decoder pin and the message is "drink your Ovaltine".
Rye - feel better fast
Lisa - sending good vibes your way.
marie - welcome. Just jump right in
Terry - fantastic name!!
suebdew - OUCH!!!!

Stats for today:
*18,000 steps
*173 minutes walking Sasha and Bessie
*103 minutes riding the exercise bike
*taught the beginning line dance class
To add the to the discussion about spiralizing vegetables to substitute for pasta---I routinely have Jake's homemade marinara sauce over steamed cauliflower (a bag of the plain frozen stuff). It's easy and it tastes great. I have it with meatless meatballs but it would probably be good with some cut up chicken or regular meatballs.
Allie, your dog is darling
Terry, that's a fantastic name for your business.
I am looking forward to four days in a row where I can walk the dogs extra in the morning because I have no dance classes or doctor's appointments, or vet appointments. Yippee !
