It will also be late enough that I won’t have to do my heavy training in the dead heat of summer. I am pondering three separate races. Does anyone have any insight? Has anyone run these races?
1) The Louisiana Marathon on 1/20/19. Pros: It is flat and rumored to be well organized. I could drive and save the expense of a plane ride. Cons: My ex-husbands family is from Baton Rouge. I would have to be in the same city with them - Ewwww
2) The Route 66 Marathon 11/18/18. Pros: I have talked to two people who said it was one of their favorite marathons. You have the option of running an extra 0.3 miles and getting “the worlds shortest ultra” medal. Cons: I would have to call in a whole lot of work favors to get someone to cover for me that weekend because it is so close to Thanksgiving. If I can even get off...
3) The Miami Marathon on 1/27/19. Pros: It’s Miami — you run along South Beach! I know two people who want to go with me. Flights to Miami are pretty inexpensive in January. Cons: I would spend more money on hotels and airfare (mostly because I would want to stay a few days extra).
Sounds like with Miami you will also be treating yourself to a nice little vacation, so, IMO, that wins.2 -
No run yesterday as I was too tired from work and pretty much slept all day. Most likely won’t be getting out today either as I had the pleasure of working with a idiot who didn’t mention he had placed a stack of hot racks on top of the stack I was working on so when I turned to grab a rack I burned the crap out of my right hand.5

I like option 3.2 -
I second the dark sunglasses @shanaber mentioned. I wear mine because I know they can't see my eyes and it makes me bas *kitten*. I see how uncomfortable people are when they don't know where your focus is, that's a good thing out alone running.
Welcome @szymanskicolleen ! Don't let all out ooga booga talk scare you. Just mention shoes in this thread and the subject will change
On the ooga booga... There's a jujutsu class I've been wanting to do for some time. It's definitely on my list when I'm healed.5 -
Feb: 25 miles
2/2 - 2.10
2/3 - 2.15 - 4.25 run, 20.75 to go
Races:
2/17 - Susan B Komen Race For the Cure (if approved to leave work early)
2/24 - Gasparilla 5K
Yearly goal: 200 miles - Jan 17.61 - 4.25 = 178.14 to run!3 -
Too cold (for me anyway) only 8 (wanted 14) easy run all zone 2.
@amymoreorless I'd be going for option 2. The whole route 66 thing sounds historic and true American experience. Miami sounds3 -
Quandary!
So I'm doing the CT10K. Today was supposed to be Week5, Day 3 which is 5 min walk (warm up), 20 min run, 5 min walk (cool down). Head out, and I didn't have my glasses on, I accidently hit Week 5, day 2 again, (5 min warm up, run 8 mins, 5 min walk, run 8 mins, 5 min cool down). I didn't even comprehend this error until I'm logging everything now.
I have tomorrow rest day before I start week 6 on Monday. I don't want to overdo it, but I want to be "accurate". So......do I just chalk it up as I'm an idiot, at least I got my run in & miles under me, or do day 3 tomorrow? (and run 4 days in a row)0 -

Carry on as if you ran the correct day.5 -

@Elise4270 So if I hear a scooter during my morning runs, I'll turn around and wave.
@7lenny7 Three years of running without being sick is pretty darned impressive! Also, to me that treadwall would end up feeling the same way a treadmill does...lots and lots of work, and ultimately you go nowhere, lol.
@HRKinchen Sorry to hear about your grandmother.
@PastorVincent I'll bet those new shoes feel like a night and day difference compared to your old ones!
@szymanskicolleen Welcome to the group!
@amymoreorless A few runners from my local group have run the Route 66 Marathon and they all enjoyed it...particularly because the weather is usually pleasant at that time of year (I intend to run it myself one day). But the Miami Marathon does sound appealing, especially as it would also be a small mini-vacation!
Last night I was able to extend my Friday night run out a little further; I'm still taking it super-easy, and the shin is still feeling great, but after a week of higher mileage runs I'm looking forward to having the weekend off. Oh, and Happy Birthday to my eldest son who turns 17 tomorrow, which means he's going to want to start driving soon, and that, quite frankly, gives me the willies.
01 - 11.49
02 - 16.21
Total: 27.70 / 140 miles7 -
Welcome back @emmab0902 Pool km's interfere with my running km's, or is it running km's interfere with pool km's?
Also a welcome to @szymanskicolleen Were a friendly bunch unless you claim that your shoes are the best in the world and everyone needs to switch to them.
As a 6ft tall guy I am fairly oblivious to someone who might follow me on the running trails - being from a small town you just about know everyone or one of your friends or co-workers know them or can identify them. I am in constant contact with all the local police officers so I pick up the vibe of any potential threats and keep my female club members in the loop.
-29C right now . Looks like we are between storm systems, not snowing but the promise/potential for the next system to follow the first system is there. The Forecast is "Periods of light snow ending this morning then clearing. Wind becoming west 20 km/h gusting to 40 near noon. High minus 19. Wind chill minus 34.
Tonight A few clouds. Wind west 20 km/h gusting to 40 becoming light this evening. Low minus 28. Wind chill minus 37" that's Celsius.
I can officially say I will be DNS for the race tomorrow as it's not worth the risk of frostbite, injury and driving 4 hrs round trip in these conditions. Looks like a swim day/weekend.7 -
As much as I hate treadmills, I would LOVE one of these...the treadwall!

That’s a no from me. How do you plan your route? And what’s this? She used the orange AND the pink AND the green hold?

No running for me since 1st. I’ve been feeling too exhausted, and need my energy reserves for work.
Felt a lot better today, and have just done a two hour Shag dance workshop. Believe me, constant vertigo and tuck turns/inside turns don’t go well. (Neither do those 360degree iPhone photo things).
I’ve more dancing tonight and another workshop tomorrow so taking it easy.
Is it wrong of me, when the hospital called with my scan appointment, that the first thing I thought was ‘oh good, there’s a running store next door to the hospital and I can pick up some new shoes’?8 -
Ok it is freezing here but let’s do this! My goal is 60km in February
Today 2/3 mini 2km to start run!

Good call on DNS tomorrow @juliet3455. You are certainly hearty, but that's really dangerous.
@amymoreorless I personally would pick Miami for the vacation in January aspect too. The Route 66 does sound cool though.
@HRKinchen I'm so sorry about your grandmother. Also sorry about the disappointment with your roses being cut back so much. I can understand that. I hope they flourish quickly (although I have a hard time right now imaging weather where gardening and pruning would be an option).

Today's long run was cold and snowy. Not like dangerously cold or anything, just "I'm tired of winter this is miserable" kind of cold. I was *this close* to staying in bed but motivated myself with the fact that next Saturday I will be in San Diego and not have to do a cold long run. And then maybe winter will be over . Ha. We were just talking this morning about how disappointing March always turns out to be. It's just another, longer February. The coach says "March is dead to me" after being disappointed year after year when you get your hopes up for spring.

2/1 - 3 miles
2/2 - 0 miles
2/3 - 3.1 (5K with Skip)
6 of 110 miles
Slow start to the month. I've been working long hours at work and just busy busy it seems. Skip and I ran a 5K this morning that raises money for the Blount House, they are like a Ronald McDonald house for our local hospital. Nice run but no one told me about the hills, at least way big hills to me ha ha. I ran 34:23, the 3rd hill almost killed me I had to walk a bit at the 3rd hill which ruined my time, but I couldn't get my heart rate down. I finished 96 overall. Skip finished 25th overall and 2nd in her AG with a 26:10, she said she had to walk a minute or two up the 3rd hill too for the same reason but her first mile was 7 minutes so the first 2 hills caught up with her ha ha.
I'm so behind on the thread I need to back and read.

02/01/2018 - 4.01 miles
02/02/2018 - Rest Day
02/02/2018 - 4.11 miles
8.12/65 miles
My birthday run today pretty much was a suck fest. Woke up late, late start and my legs were hurting before step one. Slow morning run. Temperature was 41 F with a feel like of 36 F. Rain this afternoon through tomorrow. I did get to order new shoes for one of my presents.
@HRKinchen - Sorry for your loss
@amymoreorless - My vote is for the Louisiana Marathon just because it is close, in my home state, and a flat course with lots of PR’s. I am biased. The exes won’t have to know you are in the same city.
@skippygirlsmom - Congrats on the race and to Skip for placing in her age group.
