WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR MARCH 2018

Heather - It sounds like it was a busy, happy time with the grands. They can be tiring though.
Katla - It is tough when one or the other's health won't allow for an activity that was enjoyed together. I'm glad you have Arrow. Horses are therapeutic.
I'm hoping to get up on Sugar but pretty sure that no one is going to allow it this time. As for the big boy, I would just love to be on his back racing the wind. He is not broke yet though and doesn't have Sugar's sweet temperament.
Lisa - Hayley seems to be like our Keira, just full of Sass. They will be leaders!
I like to slide slowly into Sunday but Larry cannot always stand that. I took my time with my coffee. He made pancakes, eggs and bacon. I added in the strawberries.
Filed my EI for the last 3 weeks. Hope a deposit comes soon. I also scanned and sent the receipts for the Oldsmobile that Larry is doing up for his friend. Ron perused them by his pool In Mexico and found an error I made. I forgot to deduct a $40. return. He said he was surprised that I had made the mistake. I think it might be the stress of all this paper work. You have to prove over and over again that you really are entitled to these programs. Now I hear from a friend that there may have been monies I was entitled to while I was working. Dr. tomorrow and more fees for forms filled out. I really just want to be done with this. I do have to figure out how to deal with the $$$ in my deferred profit sharing plan.
We went for coffee out at a friend's farm. I cannot believe that he is over 70 and wanting to buy farm land in Saskatchewan. He just sold his land south of Medicine Hat to the Hutterites. I'm not sure what he is doing but he is definitely always doing something. Neither of his sons have an interest in farming so I am baffled.
It snowed again and we had a wind from the North. Spring can not come soon enough for this chickadee.
Here's some of what dear daughter has been creating lately. Arty Party is for kids 6-12 and held on Friday afternoons as all of the schools are out early.
This is one of my favourites.
Off to bed. Still have not found my new rhythm. Maybe once the last form has been filed.
Good night, ladies.

Hi all!
Up early, but I went to bed early.
I found myself thinking about my son I just visited when I woke up. Decided I'd be better off getting up and doing something else. He is getting there, but he is going to have to have a complete rethink of his identity and way of life. It's a bit like coming out of the army, or retiring as an champion athlete - you have to ask, "Who am I?" and find a new purpose. He was talking about training for a marathon!!!
I've had a reply to my Freecycle post, so I'll get on to that today.
Then we've got the other removal people coming to quote. I hope DH will ring the estate agents to see how our vendors are progressing.
Snow still on the ground. Should be melting later.
Got to take the plunge soon and start putting the book together. Got to write a blurb and description. That's almost the hardest part.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx8 -
Morning, all...
As my DH pointed out last night, we're beginning the "lasts" this week. This is the last "normal" week we'll have here. Sunday, I leave for El Paso. While I'm gone, our grandson leaves for the crapweasel sperm donor's house. I get back the 30th. Our returning soldier is supposed to be on a plane April 4th (never count your chickens, or flight times, with the military). Grandson returns the 8th. We pull out the morning of the 13th. Supposedly, again... We'll see how it all turns out.
Some good news - our daughter did get daycare settled on base for the three-year-old--but not the daycare that's in walking distance of her office, one that's 15 minutes across the base. It's a BIG base. She's trying to get them to change it to the closer one, but says she'll take it if she needs to. She's a tenacious little person, and if anyone can get it done, it will be her! One thing about on-base childcare, they understand the soldier's life isn't always at their own command, so are more accommodating than off-base facilities.
No idea what, if any, arrangements she's making for the soon-to-be-7-year-old for before and after school... but staying out of it. She'll get it sorted one way or the other, I have faith. Once she caved to the reality that we're leaving, and when, she got on it. Love that girl--but she's as stubborn as I am. Or more so.
Oh, and good news on the son front, as well. He starts his stocking and receiving job at Wal-Mart today, first paycheck the 5th, and hopefully that will keep him afloat. He hasn't punched a timeclock in a long time, or worked physically hard for a long time... so hopefully it will keep him busy and happy for a while. He says he likes Fayetteville, AR, and I'm hoping that lasts, as well. And hopefully he meets a reasonably decent girl, and starts dating again. He needs someone to care for and about. We'll be living about an hour away from him, in Fort Smith.
My very productive weeks for the last month have me in good shape to do some research and explore new and old grant possibilities this week. Feel like I'm out of "reaction" mode and into proactive again, where I much prefer to be.
Off to the races!
Love y'all,
Lisa in NC for 25 more days...7 -
Machka bicycling when the wind gusts calmed from violent storm force 10 to merely moderate gale force 7? I'm in awe of your determination.
Karen in Va, Writer, editor, me? Your kind words made me laugh. Long ago at a university far, far away I faked a midterm paper well enough to get a B-. Felt so guilty, wasn't able to write more than a postcard for years. You can imagine what that did to my university career . As for editing, flopped at that too, totally blew a proofreading assignment kindly given to help me earn some $$. Your prep sounds just right, tidying to get most out of their time, but not pre-cleaning. Sounds like you are a damfine nurse!
Pip are you and Kip planning to retire to California?
Heather, what are mushy peas?
Allie your kindness and caring strain my imagination. Worried about a snake? Buying it a heat lamp? :noway:
Michele, twisted my brain trying to follow the checkerboard cake plan, but if anyone can make it work, that would be you. Cheesy spinach tartlets make spinach sound good. Used to play Rummikub with my mom, miss both. Ditto here about the soap, soap wrappers and the saving ways of Depression Era survivors. SMH when I see folks throw away ziploc bags after one use, just another symptom of our disposable society's mentality.
Lisa that image of Haley in her diaper and helmet was a real tea-snorter! Thanks for the chart idea, will use the moving 7 day average to set my improved step goals. Why are we up at this hour???
Carol At this time, I couldn't face the prospect of no more pets. Is there a shelter near you for which you could foster?
Welcome Texcaltn, good goals, especially taking all rx. Is there a tv or bookstand near your elliptical? Could you tell yourself "I'm going upstairs to read for 5 minutes" and just happen to be on the elliptical while you do? Just going upstairs will be a victory! ((hugs)) about your pooch.
CharlieAnn Congratulations on the 3000 steps, that's a great start of which you can be proud!
NYKaren can't believe I'm saying this but you make zucchini sound yummy :noway: We retired to a smaller house, more rural setting, way smaller town and are loving it!
Kylia you and Rori and Katla and Lanette and Becca and all the caregiving gals here are true inspirations. Honestly hope it never comes to that with Joe and me as he is a much better caregiver than I.
Penny your blackcurrant cordial sounds almost as good as the alcoholic mush ice cream topping. How did you come to live at the North Pole?
Joyce the downstairs litter box/Cat Cafe are brilliant ideas for shelters. OK if I pass it on to the big city shelter where I used to volunteer? Our small shelter here doesn't have the two story capacity.
Sharon that poppy is gorgeous! Can't imagine starting a new farm at 70.
Tomorrow is Monday=Fosamax day. Will work on taxes, hope to finish. Nighty, night for now.
Thank you all!

Good Morning from Ohio,
Lisa- Leaving the grands is hard. We watched our oldest granddaughter from 1-3 yo about 5-7 days a week. DD worked nights and I wasn't having baby waken up in the middle of the night. Then they got stationed in FL and my sweet thing left with her parents. The first trip my DH and I made to the farm that afternoon, we both looked at each other and said, Papaw, open the gate, then cried. The memory still makes me cry. We kept her anywhere from 2-4 weeks at a time after that until school started. We would meet the parents half way and exchange. She basically grew up at the shop with us. It was nice to get back to our normal when she wasn't with us, but miss those days too.
Sharon- Those are great pictures!
I miss riding horses. My MIL use to raise American Bashkir Curlies and Paints. We rode a few times a week. Seems that once I started working at the shop, my time became limited. The farms are all sold now I did get to ride when I visited my sister in SC. Enjoyed it!
I hope the healing is continuing for DHs and ourselves.
Got my stretching in this morning. That is the newest goal. My masseuse says I am breaking her and need to stretch more. I know my hips, hamstrings, and back are TIGHT. Time to get ready for work. Hope your day is blessed.

Morning Ladies~
I am up and had some tea and toast, have to get Taliah on the bus walk the dogs feed my DFIL and then go work at a different dental office up in Hartford, when they have the oral surgeon there he needs 2 assistants just for him, and my boss and I work on the rest..
Had a lovely afternoon with Flo and Bev at the Harp concert and we just had a lovely afternoon all together. well off I go9 -
Good morning everyone,
I am so cautiously entering into what I hope will be successful day 2. Day 1 was not hard but that means nothing about today. That it was a weekend day helped. Went to 5 pm mass. Today school amps up. Tonight my friend is taking me to Overeaters Anonymous and I am still apprehensive about it, but will enjoy time with her anyhow.
I think what is helping me with eating and life is writing stuff down. Planning and prioritizing.
Wishing for one more day off!

Caroline ~ Welcome and hope all goes well for you on your journey.
Sharon ~ Your daughter is so talented. Thanks for sharing her art.
Lisa ~ So glad your daughter is getting the child care problems worked out and that your son is getting his act together.
Joyce ~ I have never been to Disney Land. Recently, the granddaughter mentioned that she wanted to go there and I hope we will be able to send them. I do not think my DH and I would make it with all the walking, rides, etc.
Raining this morning and possible tornadoes later today so will be on the weather watch.

Besices, I LOVE it here in the high north. When we leave Svalbard we'll move back to northern Norway. I don't think I'll ever live south of the Arctic Circle again. Our son and his family will be coming up to the island place for Easter. (Woo-hoo! I'll be reunited with my crème de cassis!) Hubby just sent a pic from our web camera out on the island. Up here in Svalbard, all the snow is blowing into the open sea, but there we've got about three feet of fluffy white stuff. The grandkids will be delighted!
My black currant bush is out there somewhere...

Did 5 minutes on the hula hoop (and got a great ab workout picking it up off the floor!), then the extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do the Melt It Off High Calorie part of that DVD.
Kylia – I’m so sorry you’re having such a bad day. Come here any time at all and just unload. Is there any hobby that your husband can get involved with?
Sharon - your daughter sure is very talented
Caroline – welcome! Day 2 WILL be successful, I know you can do it
Carol – you’ve NEVER been to DisneyLand? That’s incredible. Maybe it’s because we’ve been there so many times since in-laws lived in FL. Yet, I never went until we had kids. So I guess I can understand why you haven’t been there.
Microsoft did one of their fantastic updates (yuk) and now there are links that usually were in one spot that are no longer there and I have to really work to find them. Well, at least I can. I hate when Windows does this.

Good morning Ladies -
Just a clarification, Disney Land is in California, Disney World is in Florida . Of course, there are also Disney Land's in other places, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai.
Weight was up a bit this morning (.4 lbs) as expected. Since it was fully expected, I didn't even bat an eye. I didn't eat over maintenance on Saturday and was under cals for Friday and Sunday, so it will be back off by my next weigh in on Friday.
Kylia - Now it makes sense why you went to your husband when he hollered instead of him coming to you. I thought the same thing as someone else, if you were busy, why didn't he come to you. I can't even imagine what your life entails.
Have a great day ladies! I'm going to get off my butt and get my 10,000 steps in so I can get my day started off on the right foot.

Walking because I had an extra 10 minutes before I leave for work and reading.
I had never been to Disney world. none of my grand kids had been either nor my youngest daughter and her husband so everybody wanted to be the 1st to take the grand kids to Disney. So in February 2016, my ex husband, his wife, my husband, myself, both my daughters and their families and an extra a single mom with an only child all went to Disney world for a week. it was fun in spite of what seems like a really strange group of people. we actually all stayed in the same house, split up the groceries and had a really good time. my husband actually enjoyed himself though he and I did sneak off and play checkers one afternoon while they were trying to figure out what they all wanted to do. I would like to go back but only with maybe a couple of my adult girlfriends to have the good time.
Husband getting antsy guess I better read this real quick, put in my punctuation and get to work have a great day ladies !

Just wanted to check in with all of you for my Sunday. Had dinner with my sister, her family, and my brother on Sunday. We had a choice of spaghetti squash or spaghetti with the marinara sauce. I was great, I chose the spaghetti squash, It was actually good. When they brought out the cupcakes for the kids birthday (my niece and nephew celibate the same month) I had one half of one cupcake and stopped there. I also had the smallest of nubs of a piece of Italian sausage and added it as 2 oz. I know i'm not supposed to weigh myself every day but I gained one pound. Not sure if it is because of how I ate or would have gained the pound no matter what. My son is supposed to come over tonight because he will be on this side of town for a class he is going to. I always enjoy every minute I get to be with him.
Kyla what part of ohio do you live in. I live Northeast near the lake in Lake county. I read your post and was thinking that if your husband is blind he would have to be very neat so that he can find things easily. If he does not put things in an exact spot he will not find it. It may not be OCD really but survival.
Dana you made me smile this morning with your picture of the giraffe. Last summer we stayed at a resort in Disney World that had giraffes walking around on the property along with other animals. I loved the giraffes the best. They are so sweet.
Well I have to get off to work. It is going to be a busy day and have to get home in time to welcome my son when he comes over.7 -

Well, my husband had fixed something on my bicycle and we really wanted to test it. Plus the other option we had was to ride our trainers inside which wasn't particularly appealing.
We talked about various routes ... the big danger here with the wind is that eucalypt trees tend to shed branches, big branches, in the wind. They also tend to topple over entirely. So we decided on the local cycleway which doesn't have big trees nearby, but does have buildings to block the wind. So it wasn't too bad.

Just paid the balance on our June cruise. Had a letter to say it was due on 7th March.
Did a 53 minute run today. Didn't measure distance, but enjoyed myself. We did our normal exercise session this morning.
The girl who wants the high chair is also taking the travel cot plus linen. Hooray! She is coming on Wednesday.
While I was running DH went grocery shopping.
Now to get rid of a double bed head in white painted wrought iron.
Barbara - Mushy peas are cooked dried green peas. They are very popular with fish and chips. They make a sort of thick lumpy sauce. We buy ours in tins when we have them at home. I'm very fond of them - may have them tonight with salmon.

Sharon in Lethbridge: Thank you for understanding the loss of sailing. It was the way DH & I had fun and adventures together. I'm also very grateful for the opportunity to ride Arrow. It helps to have another fun activity.
(((Machka))) I hope you are able to get some enjoyable rest. Riding long distances on a bike would not be restful for everyone, but it seems to be perfect for you. :flowerforyou:
Lisa: Feeling proactive rather than reactive is a huge improvement. Congratulations!!!
Barbara: Sunday is my fosamax day--I take the generic, alondrate. It has worked wonders for improving my bone density. Weight bearing exercise is the other key requirement for improving bone heath.
Caroline in TN: Stop by often for encouragement and support. I hope you have a good experience with OA. This system is perfect for me, but I had a coworker who used weight watchers system and was able to be successful. There is more than one road to success. :flowerforyou:
Peach: I hope the weather stays calm in your area and you are safe.
Yoga today! My favorite teacher will be teaching. At the moment, yoga is offered Monday, Thursday and Friday. I'm glad to have another day available. They're looking for another yoga teacher. Some of my fellow students are only able to come on Wednesdays, so I keep hoping for a teacher that day for their sakes.

Hi ladies,
Kylia, I can certainly understand why you had a stressful day. Remember to take your own advice and take care of yourself. If it helps, keep unloading here. It’s a great place for that.
Dana, loved the pictures. Wish I was there with you. I could use some warm days and sun shine.
Sharon, you have a very talented daughter.
Heather, I think if your son started training for a marathon it would be a good thing for him to focus on right now.
Lisa, glad to hear your daughter is moving on as well. You’re right, she’ll get there. Sounds like your son is getting things moving with the job. Good for him.
Penny, your DH picture is what I see when I look out the window at home.
Caroline, you CAN do it!
CharlieAnn, good for you stopping at the ½ cupcake.
Eat all weekend and when I got on the scales this morning, I’m up 10 lbs since the holidays. That was like a slap in the face. I could have cried as I know how hard I worked to get them off and finally reach onederland. Maybe this is the shock I need to get back on track. Talked to my DH on our way into work. He is very supportive and understanding. So far today I’m back on track and determined. Send good thoughts my way please.

Hey all! Kids are getting ready to wake up from nap. Just wanted to catch up and touch base before they all get up. I weighed in this morning and lost 3 (THREE) pounds! Whoot! Happy dancin' on a Monday! Must be the yoga. I wasn't really enjoying it; but if it is going to give me results like that...I will keep on doing it. Got in a walk with the kiddos this morning! It was wonderful. Cold, but wonderful.
Michele and Carol- You can add me to the list of never been to Disneyland/World or otherwise. As a kid, it wasn't even on my radar. As an adult, it was never on my top 10 list of places I want to go. SO...I have never taken my own kids. And as adults, they don't really care if they ever go. My desire for far off places has trickled down to them. (Hurray!) and unlike me; they have and are visiting far off places. DD has been to England, France, Ireland, Spain, Greece, Switzerland, Mexico and around the U.S.. DYS has been to Mexico, Ireland, and Peru. DOS is like his father and doesn't like to travel. He has been to Florida with his mom (I am his stepmom). When he was eight, she took him to "Disneyworld" but they never left the hotel pool, so I don't know if that counts. I would like to visit Epcot, though. Other than that, if I am going to fork out the kind of money it costs to visit; I'd rather spend it going to another country. That's just me.
Janet- Gorgeous view! It does look like a Christmas card!

People do look at you kind of crazy when you live in the United States of America and say that you have never been to Disneyland/world. Kind of funny, really. World has only been around since 1970 something.3
