Braved my first post op run. I ran 15, 1 minute intervals (2.08 miles total). It was..... hard. I couldn't remember how to run and breath, my form was sloppy. I do think I did good on avoiding heal striking like instructed. Hip is grumpy.
I'm starving now...

5 recovery miles! I decided I wanted to make them actually easy and so I tried to keep my HR in zone 3 (below 154 HR) for the entire run. I managed to keep it at zone 3 for 89% of the run, and dipped into zone 4 for only 4% of the run, so I am calling it a success! It was definitely hard to stay in that zone for so long (and my cadence was definitely under my 170 target, boooo) but when I got done, I'd taxed myself so little that it barely felt like I'd run at all. It was really nice!

@MNLittleFinn Epic race report.
@Elise4270 Yay! You ran!
As for me, been fighting cramps and grumpiness the past couple of days, and took a rest day yesterday. Currently dressed in running gear waiting for my kids to fall asleep (because my kids like me to sit with them when they go to bed) and then I will force myself to go out for an easy 4 miles. Then I will come home and work for an hour or two because I have 2 different set-in-stone deadlines on Friday and my in-laws coming to visit at the same time.4 -

Dashed into the gym 20 minutes before closing time and hit the dreadmill. Air quality lately has been *kitten*, so I've been cycling a lot (yes I know that makes no sense... my reasoning is that I have to walk 30 minutes to and from the subway anyway, and my bike commute is only 35 minutes, thus only 5 extra minutes of exposure and a cardio workout to boot, thus win) in addition to lifting, hoping that when it clears up I've still got some semblance of running fitness left.
@Elise4270 Congrats! Sounds like a pretty solid start for great things to come.
@MNLittleFinn Truly inspiring RR.
Wondering if anyone here has experience with Ultra Trail Mount Fuji? The shorter version, Shizuoka to Yamanashi, is about 80k and sounds like a nice stepping stone from the 50k to 100k distance, and it has a reputation of being "runable". Have my sights on it as a mid-term goal, any insight on this?3 -
@noblsheep No insights on that race but hearing about it I think I now want to do some sort of race on a volcano.0

Apparently the 3 year old got a hit of caffeine at some point today. My husband wound up putting him to bed so I could run before it was pitch black out. Run felt nice and easy but fast paced so I was a bit disappointed to see it was one of my slower runs recently despite feeling so effortless. Guessing it's a side effect of the blood donation.

Tuesday was cross-training day, and I counted a 3k bike ride to the store and a 4k hike/walk with my son, but mostly tried to take it easy as Monday's long run has left me feeling really trashed. Yesterday was a rest day, and for some reason my TMJ started acting up for the first time in years. Ugggh. Today I decided to just do a short run to see if it might help relax the tension in my jaw/neck/head, so my little buddy went with me on his bike. He just rode along beside me at an easy pace (instead of making siren noises and blasting ahead of me) and it was very nice. We went about 4-something kilometers, and it was just enough to give me a little energy boost.
Goal for the rest of this week: run just enough that I can get the number of hours of recovery needed (as calculated by my watch) down to around 24 hours. Even if the estimate is way off, I've clearly been cumulating some "recovery debt" lately. The watch counter maxes out at 120 hours, but if your workout the next day requires more than 24 hours of recovery, you don't get anywhere. Anyone else pay attention to those estimates?5 -
4 miles this morning. Set out for 5 but I had bathroom issues and had to head back home. grrrr. This hasn't happened in a couple years and all of sudden two times this week.
@elise4270 - yay!!! Can’t wait to see how you progress!
@sarahthes - When I used to give blood I could barely run for almost a week. But my iron was always on the borderline of giving. I decided I had to stop giving because it just made me too exhausted.
@BruinsGal_91 - what a story. Made me cry again. Boston is just a real tear jerker for me this year!

I didn't manage to get out on Wednesday because it was my mums birthday, so went to see her instead. Made up for it by getting in to the office early and getting a nice 9 miles before work.
I so wish I lived closer to my work, because when your normal commute is 3 hours to the office, it really doesn't leave enough time for a decent run.5 -

Happy birthday to Mum!
I wish you lived closer to work too. Yikes! Horrible drive time.1 -
Been AWOL due to Work/Life. Had this dropped to my FB by a well meaning friend.
Some of you may have already seen it but I think it's appropriate to pass onto my MFP Running Friends considering the recent hard race events by so many, whether on road or trail.
To mention a few @MobyCarp for Boston Cold-wet
@7lenny7 and @MNLittleFinn for Zumbro mudder
@JessicaMcB for Snowmagedden races
@sarahthes for her first HM in less than ideal conditions ( one lady said never again to me, she's already signed up for another one - her husband hasn't told her yet )
10 -
@MNLittleFinn It's official. If anyone tells you how tough Boston 2018 was, you *have* to tell them about Zumbro. There. is. no. comparison.6
