Oregon Mother: The dress is gorgeous. I can tell from just the bit you posted.
Barbie: Watching the baseball game together is an excellent way to spend your time. Good for you and Jake.
Lenora: It sounds like you had an interesting and sometimes frustrating day. I hope that tomorrow is more pleasant for you. (((HUGS)))
Michele: I went in to see the planning director today and eveything is good. Thanks for worrying about me. :flowerforyou:
Dana Reel180: My irritating neighbor is also named Dana but she isn't nearly as nice as you. Luckily, neither you nor I will have to spend much time with her. I love your gift to Rebecca. What a perfect thing for you to send.
My day turned out well and I'm pleased that it did. I hope tomorrow will be a good day for each of us.

Bees Butts! Thanks for the pics Rebecca. Made me smile tonight.
My hike with the tramping club turned out lots of fun. Made another new friend, an artist, and I went to see some of her work on display in town today. Also the hike turned out to be in a good place for horse riding and there were hoofprints all over the trail so I plan to go back with the horses...I might even go there tomorrow to do my long run. I am up to an hour thirty this week.
I finally got an email from the head office lady who is handling the office transition so I asked her exactly when my retirement day will be...I hope she will have replied by Monday when I next go into the office, then I can have a proper countdown!
The weather is getting colder and windier and wetter here. Supposed to be nasty this weekend so I am hoping to get my long run in tomorrow morning before the rain is supposed to hit...They do get it wrong pretty often!

Barbie - I don't like the texture of my skin, so I wear a complete cover swim suit. I originally bought it for Mexico, so I could go swimming in the sun, but I think it looks great. Feel much less exposed. When I was in my early thirties I once heard some French teenagers giggling behind me at a beach. "Oh, les cuisses!!! " Which basically means, Oh, those thighs!!! I inherited my mother's cellulite and I don't like it. I wear a normal swimsuit to an indoor pool, but drape a robe around me and disrobe and slide in quickly.
Lovely sunny day here, but not hot.
I'm going to try to sort out an important box of memories today. I threw out two pieces of paper last night, so I've made a small start. I will keep some important bits. It's the personal growth group I was a big part of in the early 90s. Want to whittle it down to half the size.

My husband has commenced Post Traumatic Amnesia testing. They use the Westmead test here, which you can google if you're interested.
When he successfully completes the testing, he will be declared out of Post Traumatic Amnesia and into the next phase of his recovery.
When will that occur? Well, as usual, that depends on him. Could be days ... or a week, or two, or ...
But sooner would be better than later.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I may have said this (my own memory is a bit dodgy just now!) ...
There are a large number of articles on Post Traumatic Amnesia, and I’ve looked through a bunch, but these two are probably the best in the sense that they are concise and straightforward. Many of the others go into long, technical descriptions of testing and all sorts of things which might be worth reading as well. But for something relatively brief, these are the best I’ve found.
Also, I had a chat with his Occupational Therapist who told me that in the last few days, my husand has taken a leap forward.
He ...- has started walking. He is walking with support, he's walking a short distance, and he gets tired easily ... but he is up and walking!
- is eating and drinking normal meals, and he's hungry.
- has dexterity in his hands. He can feed himself just fine, and he can write. They mentioned he'd have to relearn all that, but nope ... he's writing.
- is able to read. He's probably not reading or writing War & Peace just yet, but it's a start.
- is regaining long-term memories in random chunks here and there.
- does recognise me now! And recognises/remembers a bunch of other people as well.
Good morning all! Happy Thursday! Looks like it might be a cloudy and cool day today. We (the kids and I) got our walk in early yesterday morning (9:30-10:50); we no sooner got in the house when the rain started! Lucky us! Yesterday's walk was fun as we ran into many neighbors (mostly older, retired folk) who came to the bike path and talked to the kids. The kids lapped up all of the attention like little puppies. We stopped at many yards and looked closely at flowers and things.
Rebecca- Your bee butt photos remind me of the big bumble bees we saw buzzing around the myrtle a couple yards down. The kids sat very quietly by that patch of myrtle and just listened (as I told them to) until they could hear the very loud (if you are quiet) buzzing of the bees. I love to watch the kids just look and listen to nature. We found a couple of roly-pollies in my driveway a couple of days ago and the kids were enthralled with their ability to "tuck and roll" if they sensed danger. The kids spent about a half an hour following a couple of them; taking turns touching them, which made the bugs roll into balls, waiting quietly until they unfurled and started moving away...then touching them again...lol lots of giggles over a roly-poly.
Felicia- I am sure the dress looked fantastic on you; with, or without, the sweater!
Machka-Thanks for posting the links to the articles! What satisfaction to be able to compose such a long list of things he has accomplished in the last few days! I am sure he will continue to move forward and get well again. I know there is still a lot of work ahead for him; but what a relief to know that he is progressing still!
Sun avoiders-My mother developed a sun allergy at about age 40. Most of my memories of her are of her fully covered and outside. The sun would cause her skin to break out and blister. She maintained a garden, hiked, walked everywhere, vacationed, and did it all fully covered. It lasted until after her first bout of cancer (age 51); then something about the cancer or the meds changed her reaction to the sun and she was able to get out without being fully covered. She always said THAT and the fact that her hair grew back curly were the only good that came out of the cancer. When I was pregnant with my kids I had to stay out of the sun. It made me physically ill. That was probably the only "bad" side effect I had during pregnancy.
More of you I wanted to respond to but running out of time! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)
Machka, SO pleased for you and your husband. Hope for the future is a lovely thing...
On the subject of swimsuits, I wear a swimsuit top (not bikini, but the one with fabric that drapes down to the bikini line) and compression capris to swim. I do not give a hoot what anyone else thinks. If there have been any comments, I never heard them, but I'm kind of oblivious to most of that stuff anyway.
I wear that because, while the top side of my body did pretty well with the weight loss from the gastric bypass (other than my accouterments going from a 42DD to a 34 long), my bottom half looks like a busted can of whomp biscuits. I've learned to live with it--and hadn't worn a bikini since I was 14 anyway. I have no desire to, nor any illusions that I ever will, wear a bikini again. I'm OK with that. Partially because I have no choice, and partially because I prefer being different than the rest.
Love y'all,
Good Morning from NJ Ladies!
Rebecca, my state is one of very few here that has a nude beach. It's owned by the feds so the state can't shut it down. I go there once every year. We start with a few mile run (clothed), then spend the rest of the time on the beach. This is the first year I'll be fairly happy with my birthday suit. But it is a truism that no one there cares what anyone looks like.
Kay, it's a rare find someone who is in your shoes and can empathize fully. Glad you got that gift. And your new hair!
Exermom--lol on the ceramic mushrooms! It's really quite a feat getting to learn about the women on this very active board. I'll certainly remember your mushrooms now!
Nothing new here, gym, trying not to overeat, waiting for 5:00 Friday.
Machka, what a great path of recovery for your husband. Thank you for keeping us informed so we can share in the gratitude of the journey.
Katla, I don't like your neighbor. I hope there is a resolution to her messing with your plants.
Good morning Ladies -
Machka - Thank you for the update! The links you provided were interesting. Prayers continue for you and your hub. Hugs my virtual friend.
I am headed to the store to get weekly supplies and more excitingly supplies for our Sunday Patio Therapy session . I will come home from doing that and jump on the mower. The spindly grass in the pastures is driving me nuts so I have got to get it mowed down.
I've made plans for us to head to OK for a couple of days to meet my Aunt and have a meal with her while she visits her best friend. While we are there, we will get to see at least one of my lifelong friends, maybe two. I'm excited. Friend and family time is the best!
Have a great Thursday ladies!
Not looking like there will be much sleep tonight.
Major weather system over Tasmania right now. There's been a thunderstorm lodged over the house for about an hour now and it's still going. At one point, I thought the house might have been struck by lightning ... if not the house, then very, very close by. Plus the rain ... it's like being inside a waterfall. And then there's the wind.
It's too noisy to sleep!
And I'm a bit worried. So many streets have flooded, including those in the middle of the city where the hospital is.
This is supposed to continue for another 12 hours.
Happy Thursday!
Our internet was down all day yesterday, came back last night after we went to bed. So am playing catch-up. Skimming. Leaving for town in a bit for allergy shots and lunch with a BFF.
Rebecca, love the bee butts. Had a haircut yesterday and my little gal's family has quite a bee business going and will start making queens. Wendy, they plan to sell queens for $40.
Barbie - I agree, mulch is a perfect Mother's Day present! How wonderful to be able to spend time outside and taking your time making your home just like you want it. I so agree about the husbands. There are times that mine seems to be so tired and fading and I wonder how much longer I'll have him. Then he'll have a good day and I push those thoughts away.
Kay - absolutely, you were put together with your new hairdresser for a reason. So glad you were able to connect with her. I read somewhere pain shared is pain halved. I'm sure it did her heart good as well.
OK ladies, make it a good one. Back later!
swimsuits I grew up swimming and around swimmers. Practical speedo brand swimsuits (even for the boys) were all I knew.
I saw bikinis in pictures and on the Love Boat on TV but didn’t actually believe real people wore them.
Today I still wear what I’m familiar and comfortable with- a ‘practice’ swimsuit made by speedo. My huge thighs will be huge in whatever I wear. My cellulite is obvious in all my shorts anyway. Living in TX heat, I ignore it, and so does everyone else.
Long sleeves and keeping covered I resort to long sleeves for cold and to keep mosquitoes off me. I love the feel of a breeze on my skin and in my hair, so if the weather and bugs are cooperating I’d never cover up more than I need to for modesty and to keep ladies from rubbing or flopping uncomfortably.
I have extremely fair skin. I do not get tans. I can get terrible sunburns, and quickly (like 30 minutes I might be fine but 40 and I’m lobstterized). So I have to be very careful. Most sunscreen lotions, creams, etc bother me on the face, (If I sweat and the least bit gets in my eyes it is painful for hours) so I have hats and have to be extra careful.
Pronunciation I’m from Chicago, the land of the flat A’s. The first syllable of almonds rhymes with Fail or Pal. The L is pronounced. The first syllable is emphasized. I’m sure it offends everyone’s ears (except other Chicagoans) who hears it.
My ears get hurt by the um BRELL a pronunciation when all right speaking people of the English language should know the emphasis is on the First syllable of umbrella, NOT the second. LOL.
Off to work a double shift because a co worker has Lymes disease. The people I work with are constantly coming down with ailments, shingles, pink eye, strep throat, etc and usually it is a contagious thing and we should buy Purell stock!
Later, and warm wishes to all!
fanncy0626 wrote: »@2aycocks I'm glad that you were able to be with that woman that understood! My Brother in law and his wife lost their son at 5 years old when he fell off the tractor and got hit by the sickle mower. Very tragic but since then they offer grief counseling and speak to others in similar cases. It is after 20 years still a difficult event for them to come to grips with. I know that if you or anyone else may need to talk to someone my sister in law would be willing to help. She feels like she gets healing through helping others.
Mary from Arizona
Mary I'm so sorry your family has gone through such a loss. I don't think you ever really come to grips with losing a child or grandchild. But you find a way to keep moving. It's wonderful that your SIL is able to help others through such a tragic loss. And it DOES help to talk to someone whom you know understands exactly how you feel. Please tell her that for me. She is making a difference to other families.
Rebecca I totally would be comfortable in a clothing optional environment. But not my DH.
Interesting story... my first DH and I went to the island of Hawaii as an attempt at reconciliation. (He thought he could buy me back!). While there two things we did will forever be etched in my mind. I walked along the top of the very dam volcano that is erupting now think it was ready to blow b/c I could see the lava bubbling. And second we went to a nudist beach where we could see the lava flowing into the ocean. I got the worse sunburn ever! Lol but felt completely at ease. My DH however was very self conscious but tried to hide it the whole time! I was given a hand made hat from an old man on the very same beach who sat there and made them out of palm leaves.
Machka - Such wonderful news about your husband ... sounds like he has had excellent healthcare and now on the road to recovery. It's amazing what prayers can do, when you ask for them. Still sending up prayers for everyday to be a new learning experience that will help him get back to a normal or near-normal condition so he and you can enjoy your lives together.
We have bumble bees and carpenter bees (about 2 or 3 months out of the year). The carpenter bees don't see interested in flowers, they just bore holes into your wood house. They get sprayed; inside their holes to kill them, doesn't do too much good to spray the holes if they aren't in them (other than if they get into it soon after it has been sprayed. They are 'loud' and 'irritating'. If you are so inclined, you can get a wooden dowel and fill the holes; but, they'll come back and find another place to bore.
I remember going to Hallover (sp) Beach in Miami (north of town actually) and there were bushes between the boardwalk and beach; but, you'd still have gawkers. One man, older, would be the police and run them off. The regular police also ran them off. If anyone came on the beach - they were sort of expected to strip down within a 10-minute period of time, or they were considered gawkers. Some that came down (men) would lay down and dig a hole for their Johnson and then look at every woman that came by. Quite often it was pretty obvious what they were there for - they'd also be asked to leave. We never went after BnL moved on to another wife. But, it was interesting. They'd have games and
Today, my TV seems to be doing a little better; but, I am NOT going to brag on it, too much. We'll see what it does. I need to go in and deletes some of the shows I had been recording. That might have had something to do with it. I'm not sure; but, last night it cut off every 5 minutes while I was watching a 'favorite' show. I finally gave up wand went to bed about 10:30pm.
Got to run, need to pick up my house and 'check off my list'.
