Happy birthday Penny!1

Happy Birthday Penny. Whenever we travel to foreign countries I always have a hard time choosing food. Usually I will just get what DH gets. Happy Mother’s Day to all. I hope it was a restful and peaceful day for you all. We went to church then came home and made a big salad. Went to the Y to work out, now we are watching golf on TV.
Terry- love the pots.

Happy mothers day all! Worked in flower beds all morning, sealed cement statues, vases, and bird bath, had cake and ice cream with now 15yo grand daughter, dinner at cracked barrel. Feeling accomplished and peaceful looking at the beds.
I am catching up, but slower than ya'll type.

Barbara: "I think that while it's likely our doublewide would be on the "can't save" list, we could improve its chances by installing a metal roof, limbing up trees and clearing brush to the edges of our little knoll."
I think you have good ideas, and they could make an important difference in the event of a fire.
Rebecca: I hope you feel good on your new macros. I try to have more protein but am quite happy when my pie chart is roughly equal. High protein seems to go with a bit higher fat. :flowerforyou:
Heather: Feel better soon.
Pip & Rebecca: Love the photos of your moms. :flowerforyou:
Michele: I would be in the same situation as Vince. Working hard in heat tends to make me feel awful. I'd probably work in the early morning, and maybe again in the evening, but not in the middle of a hot day. :noway:
Penney: Happy Birthday!!!
Regarding meat doneness. I want all my chicken and pork well done. Fish and beef are better when they are still juicy. I like beef brown on the outside and red in the middle. Red but done, not raw.
Bad News:
The new battery for DH's car and ignition didn't work out. We took it to Les Schwab and they couldn't fix it. Something in the new battery wiring killed the ignition system plus the new battery and damaged the electronics in the car. We have to have it taken to VW in Beaverton Monday and let them work on it. NOT happy.
Good News:
Mothers Day has been great. Both of my kids called and I also got to chat with my daughter's six year old and three year old.

Happy Mother’s Day!
I hope y’all had a great day!
Even though I was up at 5:30 am because poor Dolly had an accident, I had a great day!
Dolly is feeling better tonight and has eaten a little and wants to play.
I guess she needed some mom time!! I was laying down and she joined me and had her head on my leg the whole time! Sweet Dolly!
DH took me to lunch at Bubba’s, a microbrewery, where we had burgers and brew! We sat outside on Lake Hamilton. It was just perfect!
My two daughters and I had a three way text going on plus phone calls while I repainting a concrete Gnome. It was fun like the old days! I planted the geraniums into larger pots too.
Happy Birthday Penny!! I hope it was fabulous!
Katla So sorry about your car battery and it’s system! It’s a hassle!
Terry I love the Woodland Pot!. Me Gnome would like that fer his home!

Did 30 minutes on the recumbant bike then 20 minutes of yoga. The plan for tomorrow is to do some hula hoop, hold my plank, then take the extremepump class.
Barbie – I’m not exactly sure how much mulch I got, I would guess about 7 or 8 yards. No, this guy right around the block from us delivered it to us. Didn’t charge any delivery charge, probably since we’re so close. At least that’s what I think. We estimated that we’d need 10 yards, but that was a rough estimate and didn’t take into account the fact that some areas don’t need mulch (like where a bush is). So we might be able to get by with the 7 or 8 yards. I’m thinking that this morning I’ll go out and start to just pile the mulch, not spread it out yet. How much did you get?
Penny – do you make a pattern of something for you to crosstitch? Is it very expensive to do? I like crosstitching and there are some things that I’d like but I can’t find a pattern for. Your bread looks so appetizing, glad I don’t have it on my table right now. Happy Birthday
Terry – lovely craft
Spread some of the mulch today. After putting down 20 tons of riverrock this is a piece of cake! Then went in the pool. Perhaps tonight we’ll get some of my ceramics up on the pergola. Now who could ask for a better Mother’s Day than this???? Happy Mother’s Day to everyone Update: ceramics didn't get up. Why does Vince procrastinate the way he does....unless it's something he wants. Like when we closed the pool we knew that the covers for the handrails needed to be replaced. We threw out the old ones. Did he order new ones then. NOOOOO So now the handrails are really hot. BUT....he ordered a cantilever umbrella that he wanted.
Jess and Denise called
Katla – so sorry about the car. Hope you can get it taken care of

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers or not. Have had a good day, Dson came over for a little while and brought flowers and candy. We are going out to dinner at another time when my DGD can come with us. DD and I went to the nursery and bought plants for the gazebo area. Will try to get those planted later this evening. It is hot out there now. We found some evening sky petunias. They are purple but when exposed to the right amount of heat they get little white spots on them like stars in an evening sky.
Happy birthday Penny!!
Terry - Cute project.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA3 -
Michele, I got three yards of fine bark delivered by a guy with a small truck for a fairly reasonable price. Last year I got about half that much in bags from Wal Mart and it was a pain to load them into the back of the car. I wanted more last year, so this year Jake suggested getting more and having it delivered from the bark, soil, and rock dealer nearby. I weed by hand and lay the bark one handful at a time so this will keep me busy for awhile. But this year, I won't run out and I won't wish I had more. Our yard is small. We moved here six years ago when Jake decided that he was finished with yard work and wanted a house with almost no yard.
Katla, what distressing news about your car.

Hi Gals,
Barbie – fence looks so tidy! And adding Iris will be gorgeous!
Katie bug – nice looking vanity
Rye – I cut my own bangs too, and what I do is drop a narrow part of my bangs down on my face (not just the right or left, but across my face) and trim them a bit shorter than I want the finally result then drop down some more and cut them longer than the first bunch, and drop the final amount and cut those but always little short cuts at a bit of and angle so it’s not a blunt straight cut, it’s too obvious that it isn’t straight if it’s a blunt cut
Heather – all sizes of jam and jelly jars are bought and sold at about $1-2 here on different web pages!
Machka – great insight about how to “help” an introvert at times of crisis or grief, and yet I think the hardest thing to do is what you would not want; for an extrovert to help an introvert or vis versa.
Great news on DH and all the improvements!!!!
Felicia – ok, after reading your post I can’t believe I am typing this, but …. I live 45 min from San Francisco and would love to meet you when you are visiting..
Rebecca – I thought the same thing about the school secretary
Lisa – congrats!!!!!
Meg- Happy Birthday!!!
Almonds -My friends are Almond growers and there is an L in the word all-monds while they are on the tree and then the L gets knocked out when the trees are shaken and the nuts that are sold are am-ends..
I had a great trip to Boston, will see if I can get some pictures up – the weather was amazing, everything in bloom-beautiful and the history! Everywhere!!! I had a great time, landed Friday, by Tuesday was dealing with allergies? Not! A Darn cold. Still sick, my nose is running, and the drainage has my throat sore and my voice is gone. So proud of my god-daughter, she is a lovely young lady, with her BS in pre-med. Jan 2019 she starts her masters in kinesiology, then will do her doctorate. It was a real delight to also see my god son. This family has no money problems and treated us and Emily’s roommate and her family to dinner to celebrate both of the girls graduation. Emily’s roommate’s family is not as well off so this was a treat for all 25 of us, dinner at a really nice, but casual restaurant.
We stayed at an Airbnb this is my 3rd time in an Airbnb and I have loved it everytime, I think it is something I’d like to do in my retirement, this house would be hard to set up, the layout is a bit awkward for that, but I plan on moving for retirement anyway. Also had great experiences using Lyft to get us between thing that we just not located close to a T line… One day I walked just under 30K steps!

Dana: Happy Mothers Day! Thanks for the sympathy about the car. We aren't sure it can be saved. We'll have it towed to the VW dealer in Beaverton and see what happens next. Keep your fingers crossed for a good outcome.
Barbie: Thanks for your good wishes, too. DH thinks the car is not fixable and is trying to figure out what to buy next. He's already thinking of other possible cars, and that worries me. I hope he is mistaken and the car can be fixed. We will see what happens.
I got to talk to my kids and grandkids as my Mother's Day gifts. It was so nice! DH also bought a new fuchsia for the house and we solved a drainage problem on our deck. The watering system is on a timer system and turns on and off automatically. The plants are happy. Unfortunately, water was dribbling onto our deck from the plant pots rather going into the soil. We found a good solution, and now when we water our plants, it goes into the pot and then down into the yard.

Dana - I love the bowl garden! When I was little, my mother would take me and my sisters out into the woods around our cottage in New Hampshire to collect moss and plants and maple seedlings and pretty rocks for a bowl garden. If we found a mushroom we might place it there too - for as long as it lasted.
Rye wanted to see my "risqué" Indian swimsuit, so here's a pic.
The dinner went well last night. The permafrost lump came out tender and flavorful and only a tiny bit pink. Our friend the newspaper editor commented especially on the oven-roasted root veggies. Despite being in her late 50s, she'd never encountered that prep method before. Channeling Instagram enthusiasts, I took a picture of the main dish before it went onto the table.
Margaret - Your Swedish relative obviously knew exactly what tjälknöl meant. My "translation" was quite literal (and thus unappetizing), whereas hers gave a description of the phenomenon and ended up being considerably longer. I'm reminded of a definition in a Swahili-English dictionary. The Swahili was "manyama kama kulundu mkubwa mwenye pemba za panda panda". The English word? "Elk." The meat in the picture above is from a Swedish elk.
/Penny at the
PS: Literally, the Swahili means "animal like a large antilope with branching antlers".8 -
Katla - So sorry about the car! What a pain.
I'm going to see my friend as arranged and hope I can go for a walk/run for a bit.

Morning, all,
Kim, thank you! and your Boston trip sounds wonderful.
Penny, happy birthday!
Katla, my sympathies on the illness of your VW, and hope it's not fatal.
Dana, We stayed at a small hotel on Lake Hamilton during our only visit to Hot Springs. The lake is just beautiful.
Had a lovely Mother's Day weekend, with an assurance from my daughter over the phone that my present's in the mail, a Facebook flower from my son, with the note that I didn't have to water it that way, and a couple days where I basically did whatever I wanted (notice that wasn't "ate whatever I wanted" for a change...). All day Saturday, we drove around the countryside looking at houses for sale, one of our favorite things to do together. Egg, the cat, even refrained from doing anything awful all day Sunday. A belated Happy Nurturer's Day to you all...
Starting to get a handle on what the bills are going to be here, so that I can set us up a budget. With both of us working, now that the moving costs are finally over (deposits for the house, utilities, new (to us) furniture, travel, etc.), we should be able to put my husband's entire paycheck straight into savings. Barring unforeseen expenses, we should be able to really improve our savings outlook between now and when our lease is up on the house next April.
The exterminators are coming this afternoon, as we noted sawdust on the concrete patio area, looked up and there were carpenter bees busy drilling away in three places. One of the benefits of a rental--we called maintenance, and they handled hiring a company, working with my schedule, and the landlord is paying for the extermination. Has to be some benefit to it!
Glad to get back into our routine, finally. If your life is chaotic, it seems there is nothing you can do in order to relax. But, once you're settled into a routine, breaking from it is quite relaxing. There's a conundrum there somewhere... but haven't started my second cup of coffee yet. Got to go make Corey's lunch, and then settle into my work routine.
Love y'all,
Lisa in Arkansas5 -

Happy Belated birthday Penny ..2 -
I'm up to 547.41 km of walking & running this year.
To this date on ...
May 2017, I had done 491.75 km
May 2016, I had done 388.45 km
May 2015, I had done 371.90 km
I'm a bit surprised by my total this year but I've been walking every single day since March 19 ... mainly to and from the hospital with a bit of university walking thrown in. In other words, most of that has been transportational walking.

Well, it actually doesn't look too bad ... much better than I had imagined.

Good morning Ladies -
Patio therapy went well. The food was delish, especially the smoked redfish dip my hubs made. Yum! I had one friend that told me I was too thin. I agreed that I was about 4 lbs under where I should be, and that was that. Then, he got drunk, and he wouldn't leave it alone. I just ignored him, but it was annoying. I had already agreed with him, what more could I do? Hopefully when he gets up today all will be fine. My hub headed out at 4:15 this morning, they head out at noon. We are going to have lunch together and then they will go on to the airport and I will come home and start cleaning the 3 guest rooms they used. I will have 3 loads of sheets and luckily I use white towels in both guest bathrooms so I can do the towels in one load. I should have it all back together by this evening, provided I can stay awake
The upside to hubs heading out and me not knowing when the guests will be up, I didn't procrastinate getting my miles in this morning so I was done by 5:30, cleaned up and dressed by 6. Yeah me.
Have a great day Ladies,
Okie in the TX Hill Country5 -
Thanks again everyone.
We're really hoping that my husband will move to the Rehab Unit as soon as possible ... really hoping it will happen this week ... really, really hoping it will happen tomorrow.
He needs to get out of that Neuro Ward! It's driving both of us crazy now.
I've talked to a couple nurses who agree with me, that my husband has reached the point where there's really no point for him to be on the Neuro Ward anymore. He's not connected up to anything anymore, his statistics are good, and can get up and walk, feed himself, shower, etc. etc.
He needs to get into active Rehab now!
For the past few days, I've been handling most of his rehab, which I'm not trained to do but I'm using what I know about easing into cycling.
So over the past 4 days, he has walked ...
Friday -- about 100 metres
Saturday -- about 100 metres
Sunday -- about 200 metres
Monday -- two walks adding up to about 500 metres!!!
The walks are still somewhat supported just simply because they won't let me out of the ward with him without the walking frame. But we've been walking in the hospital and outside.
The memory situation is still a bit of a battle, but I suspect that if he got into Rehab that might start improving more too. I talked to a doctor I work with who said that often, when you get patients in his situation exercising (which I'm doing), the memory etc. starts working better.
So have I mentioned how much I'd like him to be moved over to Rehab?
