Good Wednesday!
Pat- It is fall like here too! High today and tomorrow only like 73. Is rather cool sitting out front this morning. You are correct in that we all have to find our own paths. They may be similar, but they must be individualized. Nothing is cookie cutter about any of us! It keeps life interesting
Rebecca- I understand! Some days it just is what it is. I am inconsistent with my calories. Some days really low, others higher. I am pretty good at listening to my body about being full though, so am rarely miserable. I was really happy that my macros were "in range" yesterday though. Usually my fats and carbs are flipped. Proteins I usually am between 17%-20%. Today is a new day!
Machka- I love the picture! I too am proud of your dedication and commitment! I really want to learn sign language, that would be my dream. One of these days!
Trucker- My mother in law owns a farm in Northern Kentucky. There were times when we were there that I told my husband that I heard a large cat. Turns out I was right. The trail cam has caught pictures of a bobcat several times! That was so exciting! I love the pretty kitties! I wish I had one, but husband allergic. His first sign that he loved me was when he let me bring my calico to his house. Unfortunately, that only lasted about a month, then he couldn't handle it anymore. Good thing is my ex took her. She lived a long and lovely life.
Wendy- I miss the days of foal watch! At one point my mother in law had over 30 horses. Mainly American bashkir curlies but also quarter horses. Life's events eventually led to the sale of the farm after years of selling off/giving away the horses. Love your kitties too!
Allie- Hugs continuing for your stresses! Enjoy that pampering today!
Kim in NC- What kind of embroidery business? I understand about the lean times. My husband complains that I don't search for deals. Well, after years of struggling, to finally be in a position to buy as needed, Time as become the more needed commodity. He doesn't realize how much time it takes to take care of both of us, work, home, and family. When working 50+ hours a week, you take time when you can get it. I don't buy friviously most of the time, but really don't have the time or energy to check prices every where I need to go, for everything I need.
Heather UK-Great job with decluttering! My sister uses those, plus little travel items, to place in her guest rooms and bathrooms in baskets for her guests. I thought it was a cool idea when we visited. My guests are most often the grand children so not a needed item for me

Yes, hands flat on ground but I can feel it in my thighs since I haven’t been stretching (for months, bad me). How do I know I feel it, I checked before typing this.

Started out riding to sumner then my headlight decided to die, not a dead battery, just stopped. I’m not an idiot to ride in pitch black without a headlight, so I walked and rode on the sidewalk here to the train station , now the train is late. Great morning6

Worked on the bosu today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Lower Body and Total Body DVD. I may change that depending on my arm.
Kim – back in May we drilled the holes put Spectracide on the stumps, and they still aren’t gone. I realize it’s going to take a while, but this long? I’d like to put down grass seed, but I’d like to get rid of the stumps in the middle of the backyard first.
Had Rummikub last night and I honestly didn’t feel like eating much. Had sausage cheese balls I brought, grapes, cashews, I took only a SMALL bite of 4 different cookies. Together, it might have made up one cookie. So I thought I did pretty well.
Have the Newcomer board meeting today. Vince has the IRS ruling downloaded. This should be a very interesting meeting. We’ll see if anyone else stands up for him. But I really do think that he’s done with being treasurer, which means I’m done with hospitality and membership. The other day Vince logged into the Newcomer website and he has access to the entire website. Why the treasurer needs access to the website is beyond me. I still can’t put the new members on the website and I DO NOT want access to the entire website. So if the only way new members can get on the website is by giving me access to the website, I will not put them on. I don’t feel comfortable at all with that much access. I want access to my part and that’s all. I’m suspecting that the reason I can’t get my admin privileges back that I had before is because it’s custom code that the guy who is the new webmaster can’t fix. Either they have someone write code for me, or else have someone else put the new members on the website because it won’t be me who does anything with the website. I’m just going to wait until someone says something “are the new members on the website” and I’ll just say “nope, I have no way to put them on”. The webmaster said that his plan is to give all board members access to the website. Why? To me, a limited number of people should have access to the entire website. Maybe him and his backup. That’s IT. But then again, they aren’t doing anything about getting him backup…
Trucker – I’m so sorry for the loss of your husband. When I read that one of your kitties is a female orange tabby, my first thought was “that’s not common” One of our cats is an orange female, too.

Allie – tomorrow is hair cut day for me, too! But not color. I’m again going to go to the community college’s school. Actually, not bad – especially for the price

Yesterday while we were waiting for our Shingles shot I decided to try out the bp machine. Now, I know that it isn’t accurate. But it said my bp was 183/123. I can’t believe it was THAT high. I’m just going to try to monitor it – whenever I go into a store that has one of those machines, I’ll take my bp.
My arm is still sore from the shot. When I did the workout on the bosu, I didn’t use the arms much. It’s uncomfortable to raise my left arm very high. I always get shots/have them take blood from my left arm since I’m right handed

If you have any major work done like a roof make sure you look over the estimate and get everything in writing. Also get at least three estimates.
I have a friend who is struggling financially. She is a widow. She had a 22 year old roof. She let one of these companies that come around and give you a quote. Verbally he told her they would do it for 8000 and she could finance it and at 0 interest for three years. She did not get it in writing. Now the roof is done and by the way no she cannot have 0 interest and the interest is 9%. His excuse was his boss said they couldn't do such financing. She listened to how he was a church going man, and she trusted him. She is going to try and refinance the loan through her credit union. I haven't had a chance to tell her she should go to Attorney General's Office and Better Business Bureau. Hearing the story I think it is bad business on the part of the roofer. I don't think she checked his references either.
I touch my fingers to the ground and am careful when I come back up. I follow my legs and do the straighten one vertebrae at a time.

My cleaner took all the bottles etc for her 8 year old daughter who will use them for swimming.
Kylia - I have more than enough for guests. I've saved all the most glamorous high end ones. My DDIL said it made her feel as if she was in a posh B&B and she wanted to steal the toiletries! :laugh:
A wonderful surprise today. My son sent me a video he'd done of their holiday in the South of France. He'd edited it all wonderfully with music sync, dancing and everything. I cried my eyes out with happiness. The grandchildren just touch my heart, make me laugh and make me cry. I so wish you all could see it - it's truly something, especially Bea tramping down the sandcastles and being cross at being bumped into on the water slide. Something to treasure. He did a similar one a few years ago in Portugal when Edie was a baby, but this one is even better.
I must learn how to do it. It's just done on his phone.
I've finished clearing out the whole bathroom cabinet and sectioned stuff off in boxes for different categories. Go me!

My fingertips can reach the ground. I was prescribed hamstring stretches to help alleviate recurring back pain, and it's really helping with overall flexablity.
Katla: Sooooo happy you have time with new grandbaby.
Barbie: Beautiful chair! Love the nail head accents. Thank you for reminding me to get back into scanning photos. It was a resolution for this month that I've pretty much ignored. Sending healing thoughts and energy your way.
Lisa: You road warrior, you! So proud of what you are accomplishing with all work, driving and interfacing with new people. I know it's now easy. Take care, okay?
Cathy in Arlington: Safe travels to Estes, one of my favorite places in Colorado. Should be pretty since the smoke is starting to subside we have some rain showers this week.
Had my physical, this time with a new PA since my OD has left family practice to do research. All looks good. Lost 6 pounds since last year, which has been my average loss for last 4 years. Slow, but steady.
The mantle makeover had a big boost with the installation of 65" television, soundbar and rear speaker. Okay, I'm not a media geek, but have to admit the upgrades are fantastic. We watch a nature or travel program every mid-morning, and just marvel at how beautiful everything looks on the new screen. This weekend handyman Reuben will tile the fireplace surround, so I'll be sure to post a photo once that phase is done.
Meanwhile...I have a leash loving cat begging me to take him out for walk. Here is Mars reminding us all to get our greens. We can do this.

I've never, ever been able to touch the ground. Not when I was 5 or 6 years old. Not even when I took 2 years of yoga.
My upper body is quite flexible. I can do the thing where you reach over your right shoulder with your right arm, and reach behind with your left arm and grip your fingers in the middle of your back.
But my lower back/hamstrings have always been tight. I've also always had very long legs and a short torso. When I buy tights (the kind you wear under a dress), even when I've been borderline underweight, I've had to buy queen-sized or X-Tall to get them to fit. And I have a lot of difficulty finding pants that fit. Any number will fit me in the waist and hips, but the leg length is so short. I'm always excited when I find some long enough for me.

Tracey from EdmontonWant to re-frame my attitude about cleaning house. I loathe it and so resist doing it! Soon as a floor is swept, specs and stuff reappear. Soon as cabinets and shelves are wiped, dust and grime are back. The "perfect" (ROTFLMAO) is the enemy of not-nearly-as-bad-as-it was. BUT you may have sensed something I've avoided. This month I've just been off, not motivated to meditate, take care of my knees, even struggling to get my self out to line dance class. Thank you for pointing out the obvious that I was refusing to see! You are so right that depression causes so many other issues. Time to meditate and ask for help.

Yes. Even at 79 I can touch the floor hands flat down. But Machka is right, I am short so not so far to go to reach the floor!
Having a birthday celebration today for one of my golf girls. Think I will take her some pecans from my freezer as there are a lot left from last year. Our trees are loaded down this year so there will be a lot of pecan picking going on in a few months. We have 29 trees but not all produce the same year.
Heather- I haven’t been to yoga for a couple of months and I really miss it. Going back tomorrow.
A man called from Phoenix wanting to buy our house and it started me thinking how long it would take to get ready to move. When we were in the Air Force we moved about every three years so we stayed under weight limit (number of pounds the AF would pay to move). I just need to start somewhere and do it. We’re not considering moving yet as we love our place on the river.

Happy to report I tried and yes I can still touch the ground. Barely, but it is there. One of my goals is to get more stretching in. Took advantage of my younger body and did not stretch like I should, but now I can tell as I get sore more often.
Great Wisconsin summer day today. Lots of sun, high 70s and no humidity. Some say a fall feel, but I LOVE this weather as opposed to 90 and humid. Looking forward to my walk.

Margaret - wow, I would also be concerned at the quality of the work if it's not a local company.
We might pay a little more but always have used local roofers. When they re-roofed my DH's shop a few years ago, they failed to mention/notice that some of the 2X4's supporting the sub roof needed to be replaced which my DH saw after the job was done (he was quite ill throughout the whole process so wasn't there to "supervise" it, lol). They came right out and made that structural repair and put on new shingles. No charge.
Barbie - We bought a similar recliner this spring, except it has a taller back but it's also a leather pushback with the nail accents on the front. I like it for watching a little TV. Actually the most comfortable place for me to sit is on the sofa but DH is generally stretched out on it. But that's where I sit when I get up in the morning and he's a late riser.
I just tried touching my toes. Slow and easy does it, lol. Long torso, long legs, short arms tho. Isn't it funny how we are all put together just a little differently?
Just started a book from the library called "Choosing the StrongPath" about how people tend to "waste away" as they age, especially after retirement from sitting a lot and other things. I think of my mom and grandfather who parked themselves in their chairs in front of the TV after retirement and eventually had broken hips and dementia and spent their last days in nursing homes. I'm seeing that in my DH - he's not exactly "demented" yet, lol, but because of arthritis and PAD he walks slower and slower and sits or lies on the sofa in front of that tube for hours at a time.
The author emphasizes strength training of course. The smoky air is making me crazy as I can't walk in it or even putz around in the garden for more than a few minutes - tomorrow the fresh air is supposed to blow in
Also have a book arriving from Amazon today: "The New Rules of Posture" I picked it up at the library last week so got a preview. With sitting and especially computer work, my posture is generally suffering as well as joints. She has recommendations and exercises.
I am glad there's a trend starting toward senior fitness and health but I wish more doctors specialized in it. It used to be "sit more and be careful so you don't fall and take some pills for your blood pressure and diabetes". I think that's slowly changing but we need to be the ones to demand more from the medical field and public perception in general.
So many of us on this list have taken charge of our health and left our doc's in the dust, lol. It takes perseverance and concentration but we can form new good habits!!
I am shoe shopping again. I need something without real squishy soles like my New Balance walking shoes have that I can wear in the house. Slippers make my ankle hurt and nearly give me a shin splint on my "good" leg. The new Easy Spirit pair that I just took out of the box I purchased over the internet are half a size too big with a too-wide toebox and I keep tripping over them. I bought them a couple years ago when I was wearing thick socks before my stone bruise/cortisone shot/metatarsalgia flared up in my left foot - liked them a lot so bought an extra pair to stash away. Sigh.
We have a store in town that sells Keen and other higher-end brands so I'm hoping for a good fit.

Barbara I have an idea for you...Get some fancy-dancy wireless sound-cancelling headphones and put some wonderful music or podcasts on your daily schedule. Heather's BBC podcasts, for example. While you are listening to music, incidentally do the cleaning. Then the music becomes the focus and the cleaning doesn't dictate your mood. That might reframe the whole onerous chore thing for you. Just a thought. Paradigm shift...
I love all the orange kitties and Peach's pup. I used to have Felix, an orange tabby. He lived to be about 20. He had a snaggle tooth and was adorable. He had a pure white littermate whose name was Oscar.

We pay extra each month for Acorn $5.38 which includes WA sales tax and Britbox $7.54 w/tax. I watch shows on these almost exclusively, some on the PC but mostly on my little tablet which I take to bed each nite and I can put on bluescreen. I sometimes use earbuds but always have these on close-captioned.
For us these are much better deals than Showtime, Stars, Hulu and Netflix since we watch them daily.
I want Santa to bring me a larger Amazon Fire tablet for Christmas. Have been stalling because I am not fond of Alexa listening in, snoopy B *kitten*. I've uninstalled her in my old one several times but Amazon keeps putting her on there. I'll probably be stuck with her permanently on a new model. If I was disabled or ill, I could see the benefit.
Good luck getting back in your exercise/meditation groove. I call this time of the year "summer slump" as I'm often not motivated to do a lot of things since I don't like outside temperature above 70, lol. And doing things outside like tree planting can be overwhelming because I look around and see so much more that needs to be done!
And I agree about housecleaning! A day later it's dirty again!! Oh heck, sometimes it only takes an hour or less. That's the good thing about finally hiring a housecleaner again. We can actually see the difference and since we paid someone to get it that way, we are more motivated to keep it clean, at least for an extra day or two.
Suebdew - do you ever sell pecans in the shell? If you have bunches that tend to go to waste (like small English walnuts do around here....we cannot get walnut trees to grow here but friends a few miles away seem to have no problem and they are yummy) maybe we can make a deal. I sure miss my dad's farm in Indiana - he had butternut trees growing in the woods and they were good though not well known.

My cleaner can gave first choice - she has four growing kids. Anything left can go to a homeless charity. A lady round the corner takes donations for a church project.
What a relief to do something with that huge box. How many shower caps does one person need!??! I do use the occasional one for bread rising.

Now I just have to do the rest of the cabinet.

What I am discovering are my good days. Days I can rely on to eat good food choices, stay within my macros and guarantee a little loss even. That really empowers me. When I have a slip up like my stupid pop tarts last night, I shall eat good things today.
Well our neighbors are moving in next door. Must be moving from within our city, because they have done many trips back and forth so far. Next week I shall talk to them about pruning our raspberry bushes. We kind of share them, so we need to organize it together.
Still really smoky here. Its really bad on the mainland. Seattle's air quality is so awful, if you exercise out in it, its like smoking 9 cigarettes!
Tomorrow is husband's ENT doctor appointment in Mt Vernon. Then we are going to a Fred Meyer store in Burlingame. I have to drive, and so it should be interesting. I am not looking forward to it, but I'll do it.

Hola Senoritas! Buenvenidos a Mexico! Easy day for me as I have a lot of Mexican deco, music, knick knacks, craft ideas, etc. Mexican food is always popular with the kids as well. (As long as it isn't too spicy). Today we made handprint cactuses, and built Mayan pyramids out of legos.
Barbie- Love the recliner! I need something like that for my living room for Tim.
Wendy- Your cats are fantastic! I love big cats!
Kylia- My high protein meal plan is macro based. My settings were figured out for me by a nutritionist (who I don't see on a regular basis), do you have a website you use to figure out your macros as your weight changes?
Heather- I , too, am a keeper of hotel toiletries; and for the same reason you keep them. I like to make little "welcome" baskets for guests. I usually add things like a disposable razor, loofah, washcloth, handtowel,toothbrush/toothpaste...Kudos to you for giving away what you won't be using! I never have that many!

On toe touches: I am pretty flexible. I don't stretch daily, usually only when I am sore/stiff; if I am sore it happens in the shower under hot water. If I have my feet at shoulder width, I can touch palms down. If my feet are together, I can touch fingers flat (but not palms). I think if I stretched daily, I could go flat palmed with feet together. I can't quite do the splits (used to dance), but that would probably come back if I stretched more and pushed it a bit. My younger sister was double jointed so she could do all kinds of freaky flexible things; SO, I never really considered myself to be very flexible.
Posture and back pain have been all over the news the past couple of days. I am happy to say, I am one of those people who likes to sit upright in chairs. I drive, sit at tables and even "relax" in my living room sitting in straight backed chairs. I rarely have lower back pain. My husband, Tim, and kids are recliners and slouchers when they sit and they all complain of lower back pain. Live and learn, I guess.

KJ - Today I watched three half hour programmes from the BBC on Mexican crafts. They were fabulous! The bonus for me was that they were all in Spanish with sub titles. Hooray! So I did my cycling to two of them, enjoyed myself and revised some Spanish all at the same time. Win, win, win.
We are incredibly lucky in Britain in that our tv is all free on the Web. So I can catch up on any tv programme on my tablet or phone while I'm exercising. I can also watch BBC contemporaneously. No charge. We pay one licence fee. Very cheap in my opinion.
Yes Barbara, do download some Soul Music podcasts. Last running day I listened to Crazy - Patsy Kline and A Shopshire Lad. Crazy was especially interesting. I hardly notice I'm running!
I even did some memoir this afternoon - just a few sentences, but it's better than nothing. I'm not sure I'm on the right track, but at least I've set foot in the forest.
Then after dinner I sent a "disgusted and frustrated" email to our estate agent, to the girl who is meant to be coordinating our chain. It makes me feel better, but I hope DH will get on the job tomorrow.
